Archos 5 32 GB Internet Tablet with Android

Archos 5 32 GB Internet Tablet with Android
  • 32GB capacity for up to 9,500 songs, 25 movies, and 320,000 photos
  • 10 hours of audio or 4 hours of video on a single charge
  • 4.8-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution and 16 million colors
  • Supports MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, AAC+, FLAC, and OGG Vorbis audio formats; MPEG-4
  • One-year limited warranty

I have to say that I went against my gut when purchasing this device, as it looked really nice, and really, I wanted it for watching movies, listening to music and checking the internet quickly when I am on the run in airports.

The movie portion worked really well. For that, I give this device 5 STARS...I actually downloaded movies to my Amazon Unbox, then hooked up the Archos and bam, instantly on my new Archos 5 (well, after the movie downloaded to my unbox in 1.5 hours).

The music portion also works flawlessly. Not really any hiccups there, and the sound was good, but could be better. For that, I would give it 4 stars...

SO FAR SO GOOD RIGHT?

WRONG

First, I had the reset this device 5 times in 2 days because it just plain froze up. I would get multiple error messages when I was connected to internet, dropping the connection frequently (and yeah, I'm pretty skilled at making that work). TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE.

And I don't want to hear how a simple patch or download will fix this issue. If it doesn't work out of the box, than DON'T SHIP IT!! I've been reading that apparently, Archos is getting slammed with this stuff after only a week.

FOR THAT, it gets 1 STAR and should get ZERO stars!!

Second, the Appslib was never installed on this device. I called customer service, was talking to someone in 5 minutes, who then put me on hold for 45 MINUTES!! After 45 minutes (I only stayed on hold that long cause I was watching NFL game so I had nothing else to really attend to at the time), the phone rang for 10 more minutes, and then, line went dead. PATHETIC!!!!

I am reading that some software update added actually might have been the reason for the Appslib to never appear, and if you look at Amazon site, they pulled the 160GB version.

For that, I give it NEGATIVE STARS...TERRIBLE service and TERRIBLE that this device did not come preloaded as advertised.

I am sending it back and will use my Toshiba Netbook to watch movies on the plane rides for now. I'm really disappointed. The device itself was really nice and sleek looking. The interface was nice.

The resistive keyboard was kind of annoying as it took a pretty good finger press to make it respond, but worked well enough. I learned to type pretty well on it in 2 days.

I'm ANNOYED!!!

I would have bought the ZuneHD but the screen is too small for movies, as well as the Ipod touch..

I'm now considering the Viliv ex70 as I've heard great things and it's gotten favorable reviews.

I've read Archos history but wanted this device to work...The Android platform has a lot of potential and anything google touches pretty much works as advertised.

Now, I'll have to shop around a little.

I can tell you one thing...unless people start giving this device 4-5 stars when the bugs are worked out, I'll never buy another thing from this company.

EDIT TO REVIEW:

I have downloaded a new firmware update and the device is no longer needing to be reset constantly. It also does not lag any longer and seems a little more snappy and responsive. I'm going to hold on to it for now and see how this plays out over the next 3 weeks. I'm actually flying to CA for a sales meeting next week and so it'll be tested well. If I find it is just needing more debugging it's going back and I'll also update again.

I have 2 movies that I just loaded to it from Unbox. Wolverine and The Dark Knight...Both look very good, although I'd love to get my hands on a HD version of these movies to push to the device.

I'm nervous, however, to buy the HD plugin because I've read somewhere that it does not work or does not read that you have purchased it.

One last thing:

I also just read now that on the Viliv you can actually run Windows 7. It has a camera, and if that is the case, you can snap photos and then ink on them which I do when I'm on job sites taking photos and marking up buildings and plans. That seems practical to me. However, it's expensive (around $800-$900) and this device would be GREAT if these bugs go away.

Let me also so, GET THE 32GB NOT THE 160GB model. The 32GB runs SSD and it very snappy. It's also half the weight and thin.

I'd say it's as thin as my wife's iphone and as heavy as holding a large starbucks coffee. It's light and thin.

I have yet to try the GPS software but plan on downloading it from the disk provided to get the 7 day trial out of it. I'd LOVE that to work. Has a lot of potential when the 3D maps are available for the US in 2nd quarter of 2010.

BEWARE, not matter how much you want something...BEWARE

UPDATE #2: Done with it. It is going back NOW. I did the firmware update and it did NOTHING to help this machine. At first it appeared to make the system work faster, but then, it has frozen up 2 more times. Furthermore, I tried to install the GPS 7 day trial using the disk and the device again froze up. Sorry, but I cannot believe that these people would let these go out the door KNOWING it has issues. How the hell can they NOT know? If everyone here but one person has given this thing pretty poor marks, are they only using fully functional and perfectly tested devices?

Literally, look at the reviews and you will see what I am talking about. It's amazing to me that a company would do this. Yes, large companies have devices that periodically are returned defective. But at the rate that these people are getting complaints, you have to wonder how this could go on for the period of time that it has.

So, Archos will never get another dime from me, unless of course they come out with a fully functional non brick like device that people are raving about. I believe my next device will be a Viliv. I have read review after review on those devices and they are almost all positive. The machines perform the way they were intended to, unlike this one.

And it's too bad...this is such a nice looking and feeling device. The screen is nice, it feels really easy to use in the hand...It's a shame it just does not perform.

Just don't buy this product. It's a simple as that.

Mine never really worked.

Despite buying the optional HD video software, the device isn't able to play HD (720) content properly. I constantly have a/v out-of-sync problems. The video lags the audio. All the time. Then you pause, resume playing and it's ok for 5 minutes but then it drifts out of sync again.

Accessing the microsd card is a disaster. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You need to keep on inserting and removing the card.

The battery doesn't even last an hour if you are playing videos

The device gets extremely warm (so warm that it is uncomfortable in your hands)

But what's worst is that you are on your own if you buy this. Archos support doesn't exist!

My device had all these problems. I logged tickets with their support and nobody *ever* bothered to respond. Then one day my Archos just stopped working completely. The screen would just flicker and never turn on.

So I wrote a letter to the CEO or Archos and returned this awfully engineered piece of hardware to them. All I got back is a standard letter telling me my warranty has expired (which for the record isn't true) and an offer to repair my Archos 5 for 148 EUROs.

Stay away from Archos.

update 10/20/10:

save your money i have had to have this device replaced or repaired no less than 5 times so far, and likely more than that. in all honesty, most of the time it had to be replaced b/c their support people sent me back units that were either wrong (they replaced it once with the older archos 5 model, rather than android, in a folgers-esque "lets see if he notices" moment), or because they sent me back a unit that was defective in an all new way than the device it was replacing.

due to their rediculously poor support (being without my device for weeks on end is bad support in my opinion) and treatment of their customers, i just cant recommend any of their products anymore. its like they dont QA them at all, and they make no effort to foster any customer good will.

below is my original review, if only to contrast exactly how much my view of this company and device has changed.

-----------------------------------------------

This is a great device with a few minor interface issues and bugs. im not going to write a thesis on this, so ill just boil it down. just to let you know, ive previously owned an archos 604wifi and an archos av420.

the pros:

the interface is very slick, it takes some getting used to but once you do it is great! its MUCH tighter than any apple product in the way the interface works seamlessly throughout the entire experience despite what application you are using.

set up was very simple, streaming from either web radio, pandora, or my personal network (all via wifi) was amazing. surprisingly the battery life doesnt seem terrible either. i havent done any strenuous tests yet, but i used the device last night constantly streaming web radio via wifi, connected to bluetooth devices, and with the screen on and active while i was browsing the net a bit (looking thru applications to add) for 2 or 3 consecutive hours last night, and only seemed to use 1/3 of the battery.

its more intelligent than previous versions, letting me know why certain files i have wont play on this during the transfer process. it offered to still let me copy them across for storage, but said i wouldnt be able to play them with the device. previously it would copy them, let me add them into the playlist, then bail-out of playback whenever it came across it, which was very annoying since i tend to make big playlists and use shuffle.

built in fm transmitter! FINALLY! ive been waiting for them to put this into (or at least attached to) the device themselves for a long time basically since i bought the fm receiver for the av420 /thinking/ it was a transmitter. ;) sadly i havent figured out how to get this working just yet, but i havent had alot of time to play with it in the car (thats my after-work project today).

i havent had the chance to play with the GPS yet, but making this all inclusive like that is a great idea, i hope its executed well (however i havent heard good things about teleatlas).

the cons:

its ALOT thicker than it appears on the web probably dictated by hard drive size, but its basically as thick as my 604wifi. the web image was very misleading, i was expecting something much thinner.

i dont get why all the applications use the accelerometer to change orientation, but the home menu's dont? seems like a silly oversight.

it seems a little laggy, and its hung a number of times to the point that ive had to force-reboot it. im really hoping for a system update to fix this stability issue.

text entry boxes are a little odd, you cant easily click and drag to highlight parts of text to delete or edit. hoping a system update fixes this.

im pretty good with tech toys, but i have not been able to get this thing to "tether" to my phone yet. it seems to pair with phone, but my phone says there are no available services on the archos that its interested in so it never "connects". not quite sure whats going on here.

not a real con but since i am a previous owner it was a little hard to get used to: you cant choose to add an entire folder of songs to a playlist when creating them on the device anymore. at first i thought they were forcing me to add one song at a time, but its not as bad as that: what they do is make you enter the directory you want to add, choose any song and click to add it to the playlist from the menu. once you do it opens another small menu asking if you want to add just that track or all the tracks in that directory. its mildly annoying b/c it requires a few extra steps for something that seems really basic: they could have just let me add the directory and automated that functionality. im really hoping a system update fixes this as well.

booting up doesnt seem to be any better than it had been on the 604 (which was noticably longer than the 420 had been). however it does have a "stand-by" mode that appears to use no battery life and boots up in seconds. not quite sure if this really is a con since they seem to have provided a solution that is great, which is why its last. ;)

Summary:

great device, some bugs but very small and easy to overlook so far, and they should be easily fixed (hopefully quickly). im REALLY excited for this product and hope to see archos throwing its continued support behind it.

sorry, i guess that was alot longer than i hoped or expected.

Want Archos 5 32 GB Internet Tablet with Android Discount?

Well Despite all the reviews, I decided to order the Archos 5 160GB version. I was a little worried about what I would encounter, however there worries would soon transition from worried to eased.

The make of this device is very solid and it is a little big for the pocket, but it's manageable. This device would be significantly useful for people on the go as it allows you to bring a large amount of media with you all in a neat little tablet that can handle HD output (Given some videos are going to be laggy, but this is normal for most hand held devices as they do not have the rendering capabilities that of a computer does). However to deal with this, Archos is trying to maintain regular updates. Just recently they released 2 updates for the Archos 5. If you go to the main Archos site, which is at you can look at the updates that have been released for the device. It turns out that with each update they are trying to clean up the HD output given the limitations of the hardware also they are working on another update which is called doughnut, which is version 1.6 android, I believe (which will hopefully include the android market!! :)). This device also has a TON of space.

With all this space it can have other uses as well. I, Personally, have a large collection of books and music, I used this device as a backup of all my files so that in the event that anything happens to my main machine, I will always have the files I prioritized. Another neat little thing that the Archos 5 can do is it can read PDFs and Office Files, which is nice if you ever have to edit your office files on the go. With the amount of area that is displayed by the screen, it allows for a very nice and ease of reading. At times I can find myself reading a book on it and reading it with ease with the large screen, as well as the capabilities of the software to handle PDFs. One thing to be noted by this is the fact that due to the hardware constraint, it will have to load each page after you read about half of your current page and half of the next page in order to have it load the next page. This is done to save space and maintain its longevity due to its hardware constraints. However, the transitions is very fast, shouldn't be a pain, although a very minor annoyance. One thing I should note is that some people have claimed that some videos are not able to play, although I have yet to encounter this issue.

I feel that I got a huge bargain on this device. Given its updates and overall capabilities as not only an internet tablet but also its media playback along with its touchscreen capabilities (which is acceptable, in practicality -Make sure that you configure the touchscreen when it seems to not be functioning properly) it almost feels like a steal. To sum up the review I'm going to make a list of pros and cons.

Pros

Large beautiful screen

Touch Screen

Variety of Media playback capabilities

Made with Android OS (very stable)

Can be used as a PDF Reader as well as do MORE

Has GPS capabilities

Lots of applications -AppsLib (And much more will come when android market is finally released -although there is a way to get market on it with a little trick-but it does not include all the times that are in the CURRENT market, its a makeshift to get it to work AND Google applications be installed using this little trick, Google "Android Market on Archos 5 Internet Tablet")

Lasts a good amount of time

Easy to use

------------------------

Cons

No android 2.0 (yet..?)

Charging is somewhat slow (it will lose charge [when plugged in via DC-IN USB to MiniUSB] when transferring files to it, do it in chunks to deal with this issue, although you'll still lose battery life)

Somewhat laggy Video playback (should be remedied somewhat with updates)

Locks up sometimes (this was in the past, however with the new update they released I haven't seen it happen..yet?)

LONG start up time (use standby)

I hope this review helps you guys decide on buying one :)

There is one sure fire way you can guarantee to reduce your technology options, and that is to irresponsibly slam everything that's not an Apple product. There are companies out there, (like Archos), that are trying to give you options. It's not easy to do. It takes a lot of money, and there will inevitably be hiccups and bugs. But people are so spoiled and impatient these days, they are willing to sell their souls to one company for a few pieces of MAC crack. Their loss.

Now to the Archos: I purchased the original Archos 5 a couple weeks ago, and while I found that device intriguing, the fact it used a hard drive (250GB) for storage, and made unsettling clicks and pops from time to time, made me paranoid enough to return it and order the FLASH Memory 32GB Android version instead. Also, the Opera browser on the older unit did reset often while surfing for no apparent reason. But it did work, and in full screen mode...and I could play my videos FROM my computer which my wife's Itouch couldn't...well, touch. It did everything her's did, just not as well. In fact, using it as a book reader was pretty much a joke. The biggest shortfall was the way fonts were rendered in every application. They just looked cruddy compared to the Itouch.

Well, I scoured reviews from all over the web to see if I could find a comparison between the old and new Archos from someone who owned both. I couldn't really, and what little I did find in comparison went pretty much like, "The new Android is OK, but not so much different from the first version in the end"

Now I know there are those like me out there that want to know if the upgrade is worth it.

Listen up. This is like the jump from a Yugo to a Cadillac. This device rocks! If I were to rate the original, I'd give it a "3"...this one gets an "8"

The web browsing experience is probably the most shocking. I have never seen a full sized computer load and display web pages faster. The rendering is beautiful. Ever bit as crisp and lovely as the Ipod. All in full screen spender! The scroll is not quite as fluid as the Ipod, but Archos is almost there. The sheer amount of additional real estate makes up for anything else.

Bottom line: Archos brought the web browser light years ahead from the previous model.

Media: (Video, Music, Photos) are all pretty much unchanged and for good reason: They were fine the way they were.

Bottom line: Media experience is the same as it was. Nice music player, nice photo viewer, and by far the most awesome video playback no one, not Apple, not Microsoft, not anyone can match.

Touch Screen: Many people seem to have a lot of complaints about the resistive touch screen. Yes, it takes a little more pressure than the Ipod's capacitive screen, but I know people that have complained of those screens getting less responsive over time. The Archos screen is fine after you learn how to use it (and really, even before) Women will love it because it works especially well and is perfectly suited to using a fingernail where capcitive may not work as well via that method.

Applications: This is where Archos with Android is I guarantee you making Apple very nervous. Are they there yet? No. Are they gaining fast? You bet. Every day more apps appear.

Bottom line: There's a new kid in town. A bigger, better looking, and soon to be better all around, kid.

Other features like FM receiver (Pod don't got it) FM transmitter (Pod don't got it) GPS! (guess what? Pod don't got it) and I could go on and on about what my wife's Ipod CANT do that the Archos can.

Darn, but it hangs occasionally, or maybe a screen will freeze once in a while. Get the torches!!! Burn them out!!!! Archos must die!!!! We demand PERFECTION!!!!

If I had a nickle for every time EVERY ONE of you people's computers hung or froze or what not. Why aren't you throwing THEM in the trash? Huh?

I am not in love with Archos, nor do I hate Apple. The Itouch is a very classy machine that does what it does just about as well as it can be done. But it is not without it's faults. You don't really own it, Apple does. Why can't you see it like a hard drive? Why do I have to have their software on my computer to use it? Why have they banned Flash? Why do they mess with your legally purchased music and lock it down like it's in Fort Knox?

I feel like Archos sold me their device and by doing so signed ownership over to me. They don't restrict what I can do with it. They don't tell me to load anything on my computer to use it. They offer an infinitely more versatile device. Yes, with that sort of versatility and complexity there are bound to be snags. They are working on them.

Archos 5 was the crude foundation.

Archos 5 Android is the real deal.

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pocket Projector

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pocket Projector
  • Image is always in focus - you never, ever have to adjust focus
  • Rich and vivid laser colors amplify your photos, movies and more
  • High resolution (WVGA 848x480), Widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio
  • Made for Apple iPod - works with various other devices with video out capabilities

I want to chime in given the overly optimistic reviews listed for this product. We've had the device for a couple of weeks now and I want to point out a few things that haven't been mentioned by other reviewers.

The image quality is good given the size of the device and the brightness set to its highest value is sufficient. The projector suffers from severe pincushion distortions, and there's no way to correct for this via any of the limited menu settings, which is quite surprising. There's also no keystone adjustment, or any other image geometry adjustment for that matter. This includes the size of the image. When other reviewers say that the size can be adjusted, that simply means that you can increase or decrease the distance to the screen to change the image size, since the projection opening angle is fixed. Somewhat annoying, but not a deal breaker.

While we are at missing features, the device doesn't have a threaded hole to attach it to a tripod or any other means of attaching it to anything. This wouldn't be so bad if the device wasn't that lightweight due to the plastic housing (which could be considered a plus, but it feels cheap) and came with a very short and stiff iPod connector cable. The moment you reposition the iPod / iPad, the projector will move; there aren't even rubberized feet underneath the device. Clearly, not too much thought was put into this. According to the Microvision website, the VGA connector comes with a threaded hole for tripod mounting. I would have hoped that there was some sort of mounting plate available as an accessory to mount the actual projector as well. Right now, I'd recommend using a universal iPod / iPhone car mount.

The really bad part is, as somewhat feared, the battery life. Set to the highest brightness (there are 3 brightness settings) and standard color mode, one gets about 60 minutes out of a fully charged battery. That's not enough to watch a full-length movie, obviously, and we are considering returning the device for this reason. Yes, you could plug the device into the wall or buy an extra ($30) battery, but that takes away some of the ultra portability. We'll test it once more on the next lower setting to see if we can make it through a 90 minute movie. If not, the device goes back. The specs claim up to 120 minutes of battery life ... maybe when you display an image of a black panther at night;-)

---------------

Update: We tested the battery life on the next lower brightness setting and still only got 60 minutes of continuous play out of a fully charged battery. We'll try to return the product.

---------------

One reviewer pointed out that since the device uses lasers to operate instead of an incandescent bulb, he would never ever have to replace a bulb again. Well, true, but lasers do have a MTBF as well, and there's no way to replace them in this unit. I wouldn't count the absence of a replacement option as a plus.

Just our two cents. Think about the money you are about to spend and whether you really need such a portable device. Laser projectors are certainly the future, but maybe there needs to be some more competition to perfect the product.

---------------

Update: We just found out that the seller, DBROTH, doesn't accept any open-box returns unless the device is DOA. Our bad about not looking into the non-existent return policy. I wouldn't recommend purchasing from DBROTH.

I received this projector for Christmas and I am utterly blown away. The disclaimer is that I have long been a fan of projectors and we have the excellent Panasonic PT-AE700U, a spectacular home projector which was incredibly well-received when it debuted a few years back.

That said, I did not expect anything too remarkable from something 1/4 the price of my home projector and 1/20th the size... but, boy was I wrong!

A few things about this unit:

First, it's about the size of an iPhone and that includes the battery. This is absolutely incredible and showing it to people, they say: "Where's the rest of it?!"

Second, unlike my home theater projector, this uses laser technology so it is always in perfect focus. Let me repeat that: IT IS ALWAYS IN PERFECT FOCUS. This is mind-numbingly cool and is a game-changer in and of itself! Focus is one of those things that you fiddle with almost every time you start the projector, but here it is always perfect. Amazing!

Next, because of the lasers, there are no bulbs to burn out--an expensive and annoying feature of traditional projectors.

So, in theory, this is an astounding piece of technology, but what about the image quality? Well, I am delighted to report that it is superb! Crisp, clear, with eye-popping colors and very good resolution. It also fortunately looks great with video, with a rapid response that really looks perfect.

What are the negatives?

Well there are two: the first is that it is bright but could be brighter. In a dark room, it looks amazing, even projecting to over 100 inches on the ceiling! But if there is some ambient light, it gets faded fast at larger sizes. That said, keeping a small and concentrated image--say 30 or 40 inches, it looks pretty great and would be a much better way to show photos, videos or slides than on your phone or even iPad.

The second is that the resolution is really good, but not quite as sharp as a home projector. Given the source material (phones and even iPads), however, this works out well.

I am thinking that this is the direction things will go. With low prices like these already, and with increasing brightness each iteration, I am wondering when these will replace LCD and Plasma TVs--I think it really is just a matter of time. For now, this is an incredible unit for anyone who needs to present to small groups on the go: sales folks, executives, and even teachers for smaller groups. For just a few hundred dollars, you are a totally self-contained AV service. This is going to make a very big splash, I think.

Pretty happy with this upgraded version. Using this toy mainly for watching streaming video movies from Netflix. Good for up to 40 in. on the wall in semi-dark env. Linked via s-video from laptop to composite video on the projector. Bought an s-video to rca convertor.

Pros:

-ultra compact

-adjustable image size and color

-always in focus

-no noise

Cons:

-poor for viewing text (almost can not view any words in MS Word doc from VGA docking to laptop)

Looking forward for HD and brighter laser pico projector in the future.

Want MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pocket Projector Discount?

I just purchased a ShowWx+ from Amazon for $199 a spectacular price break, particularly compared to the ShowWx I bought last March from a European retailer for $630. I was excited about the technology and couldn't wait to get my hands on one, so $630 was worth it to me.

I wasn't disaappointed vivid colors, infinite focus, small, lightweight portability the ShowWx is an absolute revolution in display technology. And it never ceases to amaze those I show it to. They cannot believe such a stunning picture can be produced by such a small device. I have literally stopped traffic at night with 30-foot diagonal videos on the side of my house.

So I was more than willing to pay $199 for an "improved" version of the ShowWx. The plus model boasts 15 lumens output (versus 10 lumens for the original Show), and I was anxious to see the difference. So I lined up my Shows side-by-side in a dark room in my basement and hooked them up to iPods containing the same music video. I then tried (and failed, somewhat) to run the videos simultaneously. I made a video of the experiment, but since they won't allow me to post a link to YouTube here, if you wish to see it, just go to YouTube to my channel, "hendersonbay1" and it's the only video on there. It's about 5 minutes.

Quickly, the limitations of both the ShowWx and the Plus model are about the same. They perform best in darkness or very low light, and the battery life is limited to 90 100 minutes not plugged into a wall outlet or USB port. I noticed other reviewers complaining about not being able to display the menus or screens on their iPhones or iPads, but that is because Apple has locked their devices so as to prevent them from using alternate displays. If you "jailbreak" your Apple devices, this limitation goes away. But videos or pictures on Apple devices look great via the Show.

Putting the ShowWx and the ShowWx side by side, I can say that the colors and picture overall from the Plus model are better richer colors and color contrast. What I can't say is DRAMATICALLY better, because the picture on the original ShowWx is so good. But it is an improvement. If you take the time to view the video I posted, you should understand that the difference on the video was somewhat more dramatic than the difference I noticed in person. I'm sure there's a technical reason for this, but I don't know what it is.

In any case, the pictures from both Shows were spectacular. I had the projectors 63 inches from the wall, which translates into an over five foot diagonal projection. The colors were rich and bright, the focus was flawless, and the "wow factor" was doubled with two 63-inch projections filling the wall.

I could go on for many more paragraphs about all the potentially fun and productive things you could do with a Show, but I'd start sounding like a salesman for Microvision (which I'm not). I think this technology is amazing and, if you've done your research and understand the limitations, you will not be disappointed in either the Show Wx or ShowWx+. It'll knock your socks off.

After reading all the reviews and compared to other brands, I ordered this projector with high expectation. After tried it, I decided to return it. Thank god I bought it from Amazon where the return policy is straight forward and painless. Below is what I experienced:

1. I understand this is a tiny projector with dim light but I was not expecting it to be useless in a normally lighted office. I tried to project in a room with blinds closes, one ceiling light and projecting it to a white wall about 4 feet away; can't see anything. I had to get closer than 2 feet to get a decent image.

2. The battery life is short, but I can connect the power cord so I don't rely on battery. The device can be powered by USB so you can connect it to a laptop USB port to power it while you're using the projector.

3. I purchased the VGA adapter. It works with my Sony and Alienware laptops. However I had to reduce the resolution to 800x600. It does not support anything higher. The problem with my Sony is my Sony is a mini P model with 16:9 screens. When I changed it to 800x600 made the Sony screen is tiny and difficult to operate, at the same time the projection turned to 16:9 ratio, so the image looks bad.

3. I connected it to an iPhone 4, iPod video and movie play well, but it does not project iPhone photos or Safari. I used an Altec Lansing iM-237 speaker, which works great with the iPhone and projector.

I purchased this projector as a carry in bag at all-time device for both personal entertainment and do quick demo of applications and internet to customers via iPhone/iPad/Laptop. I can deal with the dim light and the 800x600 resolution, but I was disappointed that I can't display applications, games or Safari from iPhone. I have not tried iPad yet and will test it tomorrow. I will also try the composite video cable to see if I can display photo and Safari from iPhone.

This is a beautiful piece of hardware and does one thing, play iTunes video from iPod/iPhone/iPad. The reason why it does not display Safari or games from iPhone 4 may be an Apple software issue, but unfortunately I was hoping for more than playing iPod video.

I am returning this and will try an Optoma PK301.

RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (Built-in TouchPad/Laser Pointer) - Black

RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard - BlackThis is a great little Bluetooth keyboard. As other reviewers have stated it's a little tricky to set up the phone on android (and Windows 7). The instruction booklet that came with the keyboard said there is an "android.apk" to install on Android, this isn't true (they are only drivers for Windows Mobile and Nokia). It's an easy work-around though.

Pairing Android:

1) Turn on the keyboard and long press the bluetooth key on the top left till the indicator light starts blinking

2) Click scan for devices on your Android device

3) Select the newly found Macro Keyboard

4) Enter "0000" as the pairing code on your android

5) Enter "0000" and then the "Enter" key on the keyboard to complete the pairing process.

When pairing with Windows 7 if your Bluetooth drivers create a pairing code automatically for you just enter the code shown in Windows on the keyboard followed by the enter key (or just type whatever pairing code you want in Windows and repeat it on the keyboard).

All-in-all this is a great little keyboard. I would have given it 5 stars if it did actually come with the android drivers and had better documentation.

I'm looking for a driver that will create a visual mouse cursor on my Droid X to make better use of the touchpad. If I find one I'll post it here!

Also, to go back a page in Android hit the Esc key not the Back key... just fyi...

I bought the ProMini wireless keyboard to control my "low tech media center". I say low tech because my media center is just a spare computer hidden in my entertainment center connected to my big screen tv.

For this the wireless keyboard works PERFECTLY! I can watch streaming videos from the internet on the big screen while lying on the couch.

*** Note ***

THE PROMINI BLUETOOTH WIRELESS KEYBOARD COMES WITH A BLUETOOTH ADAPTER.

It doesn't say this in the description or in the documentation. The manual mentions an "optional" bluetooth adapter. It's embedded in the side of the keyboard.

Unfortunately I found it a couple of hours AFTER I ordered the bluetooth adapter recommended to buy with the keyboard. Too late to cancel the order.

Buy RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (Built-in TouchPad/Laser Pointer) - Black Now

***UPDATE: So I've been using this thing for a couple of months now and I really have to say that the range that they are claiming is just a farce. As long as you have a direct line of site and don't cover up the antenna (which is located above the track pad) then you might get 20 feet, but it's very doubt full. you'll start getting a lot of miss-keys and the track pad becomes almost useless. However, this is the only feature that I think was over stated. The rest is absolutely perfect and I just bought another one. Just please don't think that it will work through walls or from more than 10-12 feet. *****

I'm writimg this review usimg my new Rii Mini. First there seems to be a little confusion about the name of this product. the description calls it a ProMini, on the web you will find it referred to as the MagicPro Mini and the box it comes in calls it the Rii Mini. So for the purposes of this review I'm just goimg to refer to it as the Rii.

next, just as a piece of background, i got this for use with my HTPC. my monitor is my 46" plasma in my livingroom and i wanted something that would mean i didnt have juggle my mouse and keayboard around on the couch.

Lets talk about the CONS first, because that list is much shorter.

RANGE: so i found that the "30" feet claim is pretty much bupkiss, but who can see from 30 feet? at a range of about 10-12, the distance from my couch to my TV it works like a dream.

SIZE: this is both a pro and a con. i love how small it is but the placement of the trackpad on the right make typimg very difficult unless you an avid txt'er, which i am, so ive adapted pretty quickly. but its definitely something that could have been better thought out. also, the trackpad is just a shade too small so there's a lot of repositioning. finally, im not proof readimg this review because im illustrating the point that if you're going to be typimg a great deal, you're prolly goimg to end up with som significant typos.

BACK-LIGHT: finally, i have very little bad to say about the backlight. it just needs a timer and most importantly YOUR BACKLIGHT WILL NOT WORK IF YOU ARE OUT OF RANGE OF THE BLUTOOTH RECEIVER... no its not defective, its just made that way. im really glad i figured that out before trying to return it.

Now to the pros.... all i can do is say i really love this thing. the backlight makes it perfect for use in the dark, im kind of a cave dwelling techno nerd so i never have any lights on. the buttons on the keyboard are big enough and resposive enough to accomodate even the largest fingers, my friend "tiny" who is 6'7 was able to use it passably. i love that it works just like a normal keyboard. if you hit alt+F4, it closes windows just like its supposed to and Ctrl+c and +v copy and past just like they should. Alt+Tab works perfectly as well.

the built in media keys seem to work great with VLC, i never use WMP because its the devil. the track pad is actually pretty well made. its a little touchy and does have a built in acceleration. but once you adapt to it, its really pretty nice. you just have to get used to the fact that you're going to be using two hands for a lot of things. the 90 degree flip is kinda neat too. not sure its really usefull unless youre presenting, but its a cute idea.

i love the laser pointer, but then thats because im a cat owner and there is no better cat toy. otherwise i think it would be a feature that most people wont ever use.

set up is really pretty simple. since its bluetooth, its a little more complicated but you just habe to tell windows to do a seach for bluetooth devices when the icon appears in your system try and then mash the bluetooth button on the keyboard so they sync. all-in-all, not real tough.

In shourt i got this because i didnt wanna shell out the $100+ for the diNovo Mini and so far im really happy with it. i would definitely recomend it. the only reason it isnt 5 stars is because my wrist is really startimg to get sore from all this typing. but if your looking for somthing to make your HTPC a lot more fum, this is the business.

This product has instructions on setting it up to work with an android device. After installing the apk you have to activate it. Well the activation didn't work for me and I have found that there are a lot of other people having the same issue. It says to make sure your connected to the internet. I have data and even turned on WIFI. I read a comment that the company ran out of licenses for the software on android. I am going to have to contact the manufacturer to verify. The website at has little information and looks like it was thrown together real fast. This has me worried about support.

In windows 7 the keyboard works ok. It was tricky to get it working and there were some response delays. I love how it's back lit. When using the touch pad the pointer does not move smoothly like it would with a laptop touch pad. Still I find the product useful and do not regret buying it. For a presenter it would be nice to have the device, could easily put in in your pocket and the laser is handy. I think it will be good for my ps3 so long as it works. Haven't tried that yet. After further testing I have found that the range is very short compared to other bluetooth devices. On the Mac the response is much better, but you have to be within about 5 feet, you can go slightly further but then you start seeing problems.

This battery was delivered promptly, from the vendor, SF Planet. (That's the one star.) It was DOA. In spite of the fact that I was not having a problem with my iPAQ 2415 and its elderly HP battery, I tried 2 cables and the cradle. Finally, as recommended, I "charged" the battery for 30 hours. Still dead.

I went to the web site and requested an RMA. No acknowledgement, no RMA.

If anyone is interested, the manufacturer is "Cameron Sino", it is marked 2850 mah, and the contacts are correctly placed for this application.

The back cover that came with the battery is defective; it was missing a small push pin that was designed to disconnect the battery power when the cover is not attached to the device. I used a small piece of paper clip as a temporary work-around, but I would prefered to have had a working cover for the battery.

SanDisk SDSDB-256-A10 256 MB Secure Digital Card (Retail Package)

SanDisk SDSDB-256-A10 256 MB Secure Digital Card
  • High transfer rate for fast copy/download
  • 256 MB storage capacity
  • Low battery consumption to maximize battery life in small portable devices
  • Operating shock rating of 2,000 Gs, equivalent to a 10-foot drop to the floor
  • 5-year warranty

There are a number of people leaving reviews here that bash SanDisk, and I'm sure that their experience justifies their opinions. But let me relate my own experience.

I bought a couple of motion-activated trail cameras and bought several Kingston 256MB SD cards for them. I decided on Kingston based on so many favorable reviews of their SD cards on Amazon. But the cameras were not compatible at all with the Kingston cards. The cameras wouldn't power up in the manner that the user manual said they would, I couldn't access the menu screen, none of the set-up buttons worked, and the LCD screens showed things never discussed in the user manual. Things were just generally screwed up, and I wondered if I had received a defective unit.

I called the camera manufacturer and they said that they also had experienced trouble with certain "offbrand" makes of SD cards, but that they hadn't had any trouble with SanDisk. I had never heard that Kingston was considered an offbrand, but I decided to experiment using another manufacturer's SD card. I inserted a SanDisk SD card, and the camera worked beautifully. Perhaps SanDisk adheres more closely to guidelines for cross-compatibility between digital devices, but that was a lesson for me.

Contrary to the experiences of some, I have never had problems with a SanDisk memory card CF or SD whereas this is the second time I've had problems with a Kingston memory card one time it was a 512MB CF card that suddenly went belly-up after not much use, and now their 256MB SD card was having compatibity issues. I'm sticking with Sandisk or Lexar.

Buy SanDisk SDSDB-256-A10 256 MB Secure Digital Card (Retail Package) Now

If you search around on the Web (e.g., brighthand, pocketpc thoughts...) you'll see that quite a number of users have problems with Sandisk memory cards. They used to be the cheapest, but not any more. For the same price (or even lower), you can get much-better-quality memory cards from Lexar. I highly recommend Lexar for reliability, speed, and lower power consumption.

I use the one of this size and brand card that was included with my SanDisk cruzer reader. The card is extremely fast, and is extremely reliable. I also noticed that the SanDisk Cruzer worked a lot faster than my digital camera, so it's a good buy for a few extra bucks if you want to get that.

There are two reasons many people have had trouble with Sandisk SD cards.

First, the obvious, like any storage device, it must be formatted before use.

The reason SanDisk does not format the card in the factory, is likely due to the fact that it takes longer to manufacture that way. Second is that some items, such as some digital cameras, must reformat cards. There are also the issues of FAT16, FAT32, or VFAT (FAT32 with long filenames, etc.) Most PDAs would want VFAT, but many digital cameras can't handle it, and some even require the older DOS FAT16 format, as it is much easier to handle with small processors.

Additionally the SD card standard is designed that some devices will accept a maximum size, or only a certain size. Many earlier Palm PDAs only supported 64MB, but most newer ones support more.

I have a Kodak DX4330 and at

Best quality 3.1MP, this gives me 203 pictures,

Better quality gives me 366 pictures

Good quality gives me 740 pictures

Other cameras due to compression and quality variations will be different.

Just in case the other readers don't know, the MMC and SD card are the same format. The only difference is two things. The SD card is a little thicker (still seems to fit everywhere an MMC card does) and the SD card has an extra. It has a little slider that allows the user to keep from accidentally deleting or changing items on a card. This also keeps you from taking pictures on the card if you forget to switch it back. But then most cameras or other devices should remind you of this.

The SD aspect to this MMC card also allows me to ensure the safety of my untransferred pictures as well. If I'm passing around my camera at a family gathering, first I slide the securing switch to the "lock" position to be sure no pictures can be deleted. Then I can be sure no one can accidentally delete my pictures. Unless others are aware of this feature, they would find it difficult to delete them unless they knew about this.

The only tough thing about doing this, is remembering to slide the switch back off before I take new pictures. But then my Kodak camera would remind me to do this anyway, if I was not in Review.

Great card, excellent value.

I bought this card for my KODAK CX6330 3.1MP digital camera. On this camera, at best resolution, I can take 306 pictures and/or 16 minutes of video. After a lot of use, it hasn't failed or gave me any problems. In fact, it's at least 3x faster than the internal memory when taking, deleting and viewing/thumbing through pictures. Video taking is very nice and fast as well, no problems there, it looks great when watched on TV with friends/family. Approximate download times through cable provided with my camera are about 3 minutes for 50megs of data. Mine is manufactured in China. I would recommend it for use in digital cameras. I'm considering buying another card of 256 or 512meg for making longer videos and to have even more shots when on vacation.

  • Poditties for iPhone 4 comes with special screws

There don't seem to be many iPhone phone strap holders but that's ok because this one would beat them all anyway. It is very minimalist and looks very natural on the iPhone and is unobtrusive so the dock cable inserts easily. (I have mine on an iPhone 4S, works great). It includes extra screws for attaching it just in case you lose a couple, and a very nice double ended screwdriver for removing the standard iPhone screws and inserting the new ones, and it's even magnetized! The only downside of course is that you cannot use this with iPhone cases that cover the dock port, and sometimes ones that have cutouts for it, so just double check the case you're using if it's with this holder.

This Netsuke strap attachment is the best way to attach a phone charm to an iPhone 4/4S.

This was a Christmas present about two years ago. It's been great. The only thing I wish was that the keys were arranged in qwert rather than alphabetical. It tends to give a 'low battery' warning early, but it has a pretty good battery life. My ONLY complaint is that versus the Brother version, which I've used at elsewhere, I find pealing the backing off the tape harder.

Just picked one of these up at the grocery store for about $19, and it won't actually print. Normally, I would assume user error, but the instructions are dead simple and its behavior is erratic, so I am pretty sure it is defective.

More detail: I put in the batteries, put in the tape, turned it on, typed in a quick test message and pressed "Print". At first, this would cause it to shut off the screen, make a little tape feeding noise and then turn off without printing anything. Then I popped the tape out and put it back in to make sure it wasn't misaligned somehow (it snaps in nicely, so I can't see how it would be). Now, when I press print, the screen turns off and it feeds about a foot of tape, still without actually printing anything (or displaying any sort of "Printing..." message, etc.).

I read a few of the reviews on another Amazon listing of the same product. It seems that plenty of people who got working models are happy with it, but for me (and for the others with similar problems), it's a bust. Buyer beware!

I bought these screws because I lost the two that came with my iPhone 4 during disassembly. These screws worked, but one sheared while tightening. Also, the threads are not cut precisely, and the did not turn as freely as the OEM screws would.

Also, the metal that they are made from is of poor quality and is very brittle, so don't tighten them too much. They do get the job done, but try to find a higher quality screw if you can afford the extra dollar.

Toshiba Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Optimized for Toshiba Thrive and Other Android 3.0+ Honeycomb Ta

Toshiba Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Optimized for Toshiba Thrive and Other Android 3.0+ Honeycomb Tablets
  • Keyboard/Keypad-Keyboard/Keypad Connectivity Technology-Wireless : Keyboard/Keypad-Keyboard/Keypad Wireless Technology-Bluetooth : Keyboard/Keypad-Keyboard/Keypad Cable Length-Not Applicable :

Having this keyboard for the Toshiba Thrive transforms the experience of typing. I use both this and the onscreen keyboard, depending upon my needs at the time, but when you are doing a great deal of typing, this is the way to go.

I am not sure what kind of problem the earlier reviewer was having getting the BT to pair. It took me less time to pair the devices than it took me to peel the protective plastic cellophane off the front of the keyboard. (In case you need a more detailed description of the cellophane experience, I grabbed the plastic tab and pulled. 'Nuff said.) It was quick and painless.

The keyboard is NOT full sized (nor does the manufacturer make such a claim), but it is worth mentioning.

I strongly recommend this keyboard for Thrive owners, and will also mention that I have successfully paired and used this keyboard with my iPhone 4S. It's a versatile little bugger. ;-)

Buy Toshiba Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Optimized for Toshiba Thrive and Other Android 3.0+ Honeycomb Ta Now

Pros: Small, sturdy, simple to pair with tablet, computer or phone. Charges with ubiquitous micro-usb. Good key feel.

Cons: First one died. Second won't hold a charge after three months. Repeats letters at random. No case for it, so difficult to travel with.

I really wanted to like this keyboard. It's slick looking. It's slightly smaller than the Thrive, so it packs into the same space. Unfortunately, "packs in" is about it ... there's no place on any Toshiba or aftermarket case to put it, and it comes with no cover, nor any way to attach it to a cover if you wanted to. So you're stuck just tossing it in a computer bag or tucking it inside the tablet cover and then trying not to drop it. My wife's iPad case with built-in keyboard has little magnets to hold it in, so it's just "there" when you need it and out of the way and safe when you don't. No such luck with this one. While having a keyboard is a useful addition, not having an easy way to keep it with the tablet means most of the time it doesn't get used.

Like other reviewers, my keyboard occasionally repppppppeats letters at random. UUUUUUUUUsusally it's the beginning of a word, but it's inconsistent and very aaaaaaaaaaaannoying. I have had two now, and both do the same thing. It's not quite a deal killer, but you have to keep a constant eye on what you are typing. Seems to happen more often after a short idle period, but not every time.

The deal killer for me is the batteries. Bought one in Nov '11, and used it lightly for about six months (lightly, because of the no-case issue). Suddenly it would not turn on ... the LED wouldn't light when charging, either. Left it charging all night on a known-good phone charger, and it was just ... dead. Tech support was pretty good and got me a replacement within a week or so. Second keyboard has been very (very) lightly used since June '12. It's September, just three months later, and the new one won't hold a charge. Plug it in, leave it an hour or two (long after the LED stops blinking), then turn it on and start typing. Within literally seconds the low-battery light is blinking again, and it runs for less than an hour before giving up completely. Since the battery is not replaceable (unlike the Thrive itself, *ahem* ) the only thing to do is call tech support yet again.

UPDATE 10/24/2012:

Have third keyboard. Same behavior. Charge it for a few hours, take it off the charger, and by the next day (even though it was off) it won't type. Just red light from the battery indicator. Didn't work right from day one, and now it's so bad it won't even connect and type right after unplugging it; it just turns on the red "low battery" light and that's it. Totally useless. I'd give it zero stars if it was possible.

Noticed with both this one and the second one that if I plug it in, I can type ... with the switch turned OFF. Yes, the on/off switch on the bottom is turned to OFF yet it is connected via Bluetooth to the tablet ... which is fine if you're charging with a USB cable connected to the tablet, but not so helpful if it's across the room plugged in to a computer port. I bought a *wireless* keyboard here, not one I have to plug in. *sigh* Have to turn off Bluetooth on the tablet so I can use Swype.

I guess will wait and spend some of the "ship it back to Toshiba again" money on the new Logitech Bluetooth keyboard coming around. I have a backlit, full size K800 that I use all day every day (which I am using to update this review), and it goes weeks without recharging. I never turn it off, and it's backlit while typing, and still goes weeks.

UPDATE 10/31/2012: Happened to ask my wife about her Kensington keyboard/iPad cover combo. She's had it since April. Get this she's never charged it since the initial overnight charge. Not once. In six months!

UPDATE 11/17/2012: Updating this review with a Kensington cover/keyboard combo. Keeps the keyboard together with the tablet, so it's always handy. Doesn't repeat keys ever. Have been typing on it quite a bit (since it's "always there") and so far haven't charged it in almost two weeks. Don't like the keys as well as the Toshiba, but the fact I can actually _use_ the keys is a definite plus :-)

From the description this was exactly the keyboard I was seeking, so I took a gamble that it would work with my Acer Iconia Tab A500. I am pleased to inform all that it paired immediately and works like a champ with my Acer. All that was needed was charging the unit, enabling Bluetooth on the tablet, powering on the keyboard and selecting search for devices then pressing the connect button on the back of the keyboard and following the on screen prompts on the tablet. So far I couldn't be more pleased.... time will tell how long I stay that way.

Want Toshiba Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Optimized for Toshiba Thrive and Other Android 3.0+ Honeycomb Ta Discount?

Nice design and very small. I really want to like it, but it doesn't work with the tablet it was built for! Only half the keys work. I reboot and plug in and then different keys keys work... But I can't get it to work all the keys at once! Very upsetting as I wanted to be able to use my tablet to travel and not take my computer... I personally think there is a driver or update that is creating the problem, but I can't find any info online or find a person to talk about it... So, 1 star.. sorry...

Works great. Setup was easy. Design was just as described. I would recommend the purchase. In fact, we ordered one for each of our Toshiba Thrives. Would purchase again.

Footime Foot Mouse

Footime Foot MouseWhat's good:

* I like the slipper mouse movement ability

* Left click, right click, and double left click are cool too.

What's missing:

* There is no middle click.

* The buttons are programmed on a per-appliaciton basis so there is no way to just set up global settings for the yellow buttons.

* I use synergy to send Windows mouse and keyboard commands to my linux box and it doesn't appear to send the non-mouse buttons properly. I just get "+" and "-" signals

What could be better:

* The buttons feel a bit light weight plastic and tend to sometimes make a snapping sound when they release.

* I'm not so good yet with the control. But I think it will come with time.

The slipper is hard to control. So I put a ball mouse (usually for hand) on the floor and use it instead of the slipper. The control bottons work find. I just wish that the left click, right click, and double click are all on the bottom row. Currently, the left click is on the top row.

Sure, if I want to customize it I can set Keyboard keys to the buttons, but what about mouse buttons?? And why on earth do they not include a universal customization instead of forcing you to individually create a set for every single program?? And there's NO Help or support available that I can find. Not only that but It's also TERRIBBLE ergonomic design as far as taking care of your legs and feet and using the mouse feature easily.

I have ALS with no use of my arms. I been using this product since 2009 and I just bought my fourth Footime Foot mouse (first time from Amazon). I average about 4 hours of use a day which I feel is double or triple the average use.

I like the layout of the buttons, I only use the red buttons single, double and right click buttons and the scroll wheel. I never use the yellow buttons or the programmable shortcut buttons. After about 6 months the single click button starts to double click once in awhile and worsens to the point 6 months later it double clicks all the time. Without a single click button this is now junk and has to be replaced. The double and right click buttons both have acted up around the 10 month of use.

The first Footime foot mouse I bought was only one month old I had a problem with the slipper dying and the only way to get it working was to unplug the foot mouse wait 10 seconds and plug back in, this is big problem when your arms don't work. The manufacturer sent me new ones that worked for a while then started dying so I designed a reset box I can operate with my feet which the foot mouse plugs into than my box plugs into the computer. The foot slipper also has a problem after a year with wires breaking at the plug. I like the early version of the foot mouse better because it would slide on the pad easier and newer ones are rougher I have to put clear packaging tape on the bottom.

So since I like the layout of this product, the cost is cheap and there isn't anything else like this cost wise on the market, this is why I'm still using this Footime Foot mouse.

I use the foot mouse as an auxiliary tool, along with voice control and dictation, to help my injured wrists. It's a bit of a bother to deploy with laptop, but the pain relief is worth it. You will want to have a special prepared chair situation to get good ergonomics for your feet. It took me a few days to train my feet for effective mousing, but now I can play mouse-driven games with my feet.

rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Grey Graphite) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Mo

rooCASE Executive Portfolio Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Motorola XOOM Android TabletI ordered this because I'm in a business environment and thought this would be perfect. The material quality is excellent and it looks very professional. I absolutely cannot complain there. The biggest downfall is the access to the power button. You either have to remove it from the velcro board or reach your finger around and push the button. It's a tad awkward when your tooling around trying to find the power button with your finger in a business meeting. There is no quick on access for this case (Xoom is to blame here to for there stupid placement of the power button). Lastly, the velcro that holds the the Xoom in the case is to weak. Gravity causes the Xoom to begin to slip down making the home button in accessible. It's a simple fix to flip the case around 180 before attaching it to the velcro backing but I thought I would point this out.

Update: Manufacturer/Seller contact me within hours of my generating an RMA. They clarified that the black case does not have the velcro issue and offered to give me a black one as an exchange. Very impressed by the customer service quality. Since I already ordered another one, I declined the generous offer. They also indicated that design change was being made to address the issue of velco noted below. I would consider buying V2 in the future.

Original Review:

It is much better than the Motorola case in many aspects, but I found the following problems that irritated me enough to return it and try another slim leather case sold on amazon. Slim.

The velco that hold the xoom in the smaller leather case (the one that goes into the big case) is not strong/sticky enough. After about 30 seconds of use the whole xoom slides down enough to cover the bottom buttons on the screen. After about 5 minutes of use the xoom simply slides down. Luckily I was sitting the bed and mine didn't break due to the fall. Tried carrying the xoom without the inner leather case and it just bounced around a lot. If the velcro was stronger, I would have probably kept it and overlooked some of the other minor dislikes.

The side leather covering is too wide, it covers right up to the edge of the screen, which is prefect for protection, but when I am using the browser in full screen mode and want to invoke the "Quick Controls" it makes it a little difficult.

The flap that props case up at 45 degrees is not strong enough, it bows under weight of the case + Xoom and sometimes flip shut, dropping the case flat.

The velcro at the back of the inner case (circular patches) are strong, a little too big and awkward against the fingers, specially if you want to use it as a reader.

It is rather bulky. Probably because it is built with good quality leather and good quality zipper, etc, that adds considerable bulk to the whole thing. If you want to enjoy th slimness of the Xoom, not the right case. Some people like the protection on a $600 or $800 item, some people prefer the skinniness of the Xoom, to each their own.

On the plus side:

The case is built well and if you are going to carry only your xoom, a few business cards, a pen (or stylus) and 2 sheets of paper, it is great. Protects the screen very well. Though I don't know if it is TSA approved. I have a neoprene case that I have been using prior to this one and I don't have to take the Xoom out of the neoprene to go through airport security. Not sure if the leather one would be allowed.

The leather, zipper switching of highest quality I have seen on any case

The color quality is great.

The xoom can be placed at all 4 angles 0/90/180/360 such that for charging I can just open a slit on the zipper.

Definitely worth the price.

I will keep it short and sweet..

Positives

* Great Leather Case

* Fit the Xoom Really Well

* Not Bulky at all

* Good buy for the $$

Cons

* The Grey is professional, but a black case would be nice.

I highly recommend this case and have already told my business associates about it.

Let me first say that overall I'm pleased with the case overall, it fits very well and looks great with east access to all ports and when its sealed in hits binder youbwouldnt know its anything more than a notepad.

I am a little frustrated with a few things.

First (my fault for not reading more carefully) the pictures looked black or at least a darker grey. I would much prefer the back version and may even order it seperately.

Second I don't know if it needs to be broken in but like many other reviews for other Xoom cases the Xoom doesn't seem to slide far enough in. For the most part thus isn't a big deal but it does partially obscure the front facing camera at times.

Finally I have to remove the case to put in on my Motorola dock, but I think this is true for any case so far except the terrible Motorola portfolio.

Kenko 3.0" Multi-Layer LCD Monitor Protection Film for General Use

Kenko 3.0' Multi-Layer LCD Monitor Protection Film for General UseThis product applies easily, stick well and looks fantastic on my Pentax K-7. Unfortunately I only used it for a few hours. I removed it and threw it in the trash. I wanted this product to work so badly but my wishes were not granted. As soon as my nose touched it, it was all down hill from there. I attempted to simply wipe away the facial oil with my finger like I would on glass and it left a horrible haze that I could barely see through. I then tried wiping it with a dry lens cloth and that didn't help either. Finally I had to use a liquid lens cleaner and cloth to clean off the protection film. Bottom line, in order to use the protection film for more than an hour, I had to fully clean it more than a handful of times. I am going try using a PDA lens protection film since they are cheaper, easy to find and from experience easier to clean and see through.

Griffin Technology Crayola Trace & Draw for iPad 2

Griffin Technology Crayola Trace & Draw for iPad 2We bought this item and my kids think it's terrific. Great protection for the iPad and the tracing app is super. You can get the app first and see if you like it . . . Crayola Trace & Draw in the app store. The real item looks better than the photo . . . it also has 2 little drawers built in to store markers for tracing the fun images from the app. The clip is to hold the paper over the iPad for tracing. My kids have had many hours of fun with this case and app combo.

The set up was very easy. The app comes with songs for the kids to listen to while they get ready for the tracings. They really enjoyed it.

Do not waste your money. I bought this item directly from griffin.com. Product is very cheap. Griffin charges a 20% restocking fee. Figured it was best to put in the trash myself than spending any more money to ship it back on top of the restocking fee.
