I got my Visor Deluxe last month and I love it.

If you are considering buying a Visor Deluxe, I'm sure you are deciding between this Visor and PalmIIIxe, because they have similar feature, spec, and they both have the same price.

AT the same time I bought my Visor, my roommate bought a PalmIIIxe (and he also loves his Palm very much). So i'll give you the differences between these 2 PDAs, and let you decide which one you like better.

I'll start with How Visor is better.

-Visor has expansion module, which means alot, you can add many many feature afterward, you can make your Visor am MP3 player too! And you can also easily add more memory to your Visor, while for PalmIIIxe, you can only add 2MB flashcard.

-Visor is a bit lighter than PalmIIIxe (5.4oz Vs 6.0 Oz, not a lot of difference though)

-When you buy a leather case for your Visor, you dont have to stick a valcro to the back of your PDA like you have to for Palm. (Palm need a Valcro to hold it to the case, while for Visor, there's a plastic holder attach to the back of the leather case, so you can jsut put your Visor securely in there)

-Visor comes with a fast USB cradle while Palm comes with slow serial cradle, so if you buy palm and want a fast synconizing, you'll need to buy a USB cradle separatly for about thirty dollars.

-Visor comes with a good quiality stylus, it has solid feel of metal, and if you open it up, there's a little screw driver and a reset pin inside. Palm comes with a piece of plactic stylus, my roomate had to buy a new stylus for about fifteen dollars.

-And another important nice thing about Visor is, you have 4 cool colors to choose from (5 colors if you include boring graphite color) If you are getting Visor as a gift to a college students or someone young, they'll love the colors.

Ok, now to what's better about PalmIIIxe

-PalmOS on Palm is upgradable, while Visor user will stuck with PalmOS version 3.1 for the rest of the VIsor's life. However, this is not a problem as it may sounds. most version of PalmOS's are essentially the same thing.

-PalmIIIxe has better display than Visor. Palm has 4bits display, while Visor deluxe has only 2bits. This means that, for Palm, u'll be able to display 16 level of grey-scale, while for Visor, you can only display 4 levels of grey-scale.

So, that's about it for the little comparison chart I made. Other tings about these 2 PDAs are the same, they use same processor, and dimension is the same. (Visor is slightly thicker, and Palm is slightly wider)

As a recommendation if you r going to buy Visor Deluxe, get one of the cool color, don't get the graphite one, unless you are a businessman, and want a more sophiticate looking device. Otherwise, other 4 colors are way cooler, (mine's orange)

If you have more cash to burn, then I recommend you getting either PalmVx or Visor Platinum, they are a little bit more expensive. However, I've never used them so I will not write any comments about them.

P.S. DO NOT get a PDA with less then 8MB memory, must have AT LEAST 8MB

I was one of the initial customers of the Handspring Visor and I have NEVER regretted my decision. Since that time I have managed to sway almost all new PDA purchases towards Handspring (they owe me big time!).

I think that alone says something about this product.

A few of my thoughts from owning this device: 1. If you're a WinCE user, you'll be AMAZED w/ how much faster the palm OS is. I actually use it MUCH more often than I did my WinCE device.

2. It comes w/ software to sync w/ a desktop program (also included) called Palm Desktop. There are "conduits" that will help you sync w/ Outlook and many other PIMs Lotus Notes, not included.

3. You might want to consider purchasing Intellisync but first buy the device and see if you'll need it. Just keep that filed in the back of your mind that this $70 software might also be necessary. However, this is NOT a mark against Handspring because if you find you need it you would've needed it for any other PDA device Palm or WinCE.

4. If you're buying it for the modules take a look at what's available right now. There's LOTS in development, but I'm still waiting for something useful. I am happy just knowing that I won't outgrow this device anytime soon. Friends who bought the Palm V are already in trouble because that 2MB of ram ran out.

5. If you're new to Palm the memory goes a LONG way. 2MB can actually be plenty you just have to manage it more. I have the 8MB version and I'm just over 2MB that's w/ a few ebooks, tons of.... web pages, tons of contacts, and even MORE shareware loaded up. I keep just dumping stuff on it to see if I like it, then I'm too lazy to delete it. That's what happens when you have too much memory.

Well, it was a tough decision... I weighed all the options between the Palm Vx and the Visor. While it was tough to get over the slick look of the Palm V, the blue Visor is really cool looking anyway. The key is, however, that looks really don't matter here what matters is what it can do.

First of all, the springboard feature is the number one reason to buy the Visor. It's awesome. And yesterday, they just released a modem that is only the size of the cartridge (unlike the one for sale on Amazon) that doesn't even require batteries. It's amazing, and it's only a hint of what's to come. If you look at the Handspring home page and click on Springboard Module news, you'll be amazed at what you see coming in the near future.

Memory of 8MB is simply fantastic. It's not worth paying another $150 for 8MB on the Palm V. Plus, with the Springboard, you can double it. For way less than $150.

Make sure you get AvantGo. All the other reviewers are right it's great. Don't neglect this service! News, sports, info, travel, fun stuff, whatever...excellent!

USB support is a big thing. It has it, and the transfer is pretty fast. USB is the future of computer ports, and Handspring obviously knows that.

Make sure you get the Write Right things to put on the screen to prevent scratching. And the Graffiti handwriting recognition is very nice. I have no complaints.

The only negatives would be that you don't get the rechargable lithium batteries, you can't flash upgrade the OS, and it's a bit heavier than the Palm Vx. But it makes up for it. Unless you're one of those people who needs color and the extra PocketPC features, I think the Visor is the way to go. An excellent product with plenty of upgradability. Definitely a five star innovation.

I have owned and used a Palm IIIe for a couple of years. I recently ordered the basic Visor for my mom as the lower end Palm devices are simply not available either locally or on the WWW. After the Visor was delivered, we discovered that the cradle that comes standard with the handheld requires USB connection. My mom does not have USB capability so she asked to trade her Visor for my Palm. I must admit that I was skeptical at first and not sure about Handspring. I tend to be loyal to products that have worked well for me. After using the Visor I absolutely think it is a great handheld! I have actually returned it and purchased the deluxe model with 8 MB of storage. It works exactly like my Palm but with these notable exceptions: tons of storage, the ability to expand via the Springboard, great fun colors and a super price! Already there are an assortment of modules and accessories that are quite impressive! I strongly encourage all skeptics out there to seriously look at the Visor! It is a great value and a great product!

I'm a first time PDA user and I'm in love with it.

Let me tell you this, I've never been an organized person, and I'm not now, but whenever I need to do something I just put an appointment with alarm in my Visor and it reminds me of what and when I have to do anything. Really useful for a guy who has no memory.

No more pockets full of papers with phone numbers, dates and appointmente, just write it on your Visor and let it take care of it.

There are even loads of applications that remind you of important dates like birthadays and aniversaries that can make a difference with your friends, family or clients.

Another fantastic feature is the posibility of answering you emails on the go, everyday I spend a couple of hours on the train, it is fantastic to read and answer emails that I don't have the time or will to write back at home.

I also installed Avant Go and now I can read the latest news every morning on the train.

The 8 MB memory is also a good deal, very good price and you can stuff lots of things in there. I got plenty of books (wich you can download from lots of places for free!), notes, pictures, games, contacts. I have more things that I can use and I still got 4 MB free of space!

No more getting stuck in an airport or train station with nothing to read or play (I got chess, othello, rpg games, shoot 'em up games...)

Just think of a use you need from the Visor, just get in the internet and check the thousands of applications there are for it, I'm sure you'll find the one you need. All that without speaking of the great modules that are available like 8 MB more of memory or the back up module which can save your day if you happen (not likely) to loss you data.

Don't think about it, buy it and you will take it everywhere!

It needs an elastic band Im not a huge guy but if I'm at the gym wrapping it around my bis is a no go.................it wont fit comfortably for me to continue working out. When I lift I have to wrap it around my forearm. Not a bad buy but could be improved.

So i'm messy and disorganised a Palm Pilot (IIIe) is perfect for me. I do not buy animal products so this case seemed perfect. HA! imagine a thick piece of flexible rubber built so if it breaks there are no parts a child could eat. This makes it not only bulky, poorly designed, but in conflict with the actual purpose of owning a case. the top doesnt stay on unless its taped down and forget about dropping it as nothing is holding your palm down inside. besides all this, let me mention that the pieces are so crudely put together dont even think about having liquid near by one spill would leak completly thru the case... I've not tested this theory, but logic states that liquid can go thru spaces like these. Save your money and effort and look elsewhere, a company should be ashamed to put out such a poorly designed product.

This case is really big and bulky. If you like to put your palm top in your pocket this not the case for you. You also have to completly remove the palm top from the case to hot sync.

I've used this product for approximately 12 months. After a period of time my palm stopped accepting entries. I finally figured out that the pressure involved in getting the palm in and out of this product was the problem. Apparently it was causing a small movement between the front panel of the palm and the back panel, creating a loss of connection. No permanent problem was created, but I have had to stop using this product.

I bought a Dell Axim after owning a Palm Vx for two years. I shopped around a lot, especially comparing the differences between the Palm OS and Pocket PC OS. I knew I wanted a color screen. The ability to play songs through headphones and 802.11b Wi-fi connectivity would be pluses.

I bought the Axim because it is the best PDA option right now. The color and design of the Axim and cradle are beautiful. I was glad to learn that I can input text in four ways: with the on-screen keyboard, by writing regular print letters, by writing Graffiti letters (perfect for old Palm users like me), or with a special transcriber that lets you write anywhere on the screen and then converts your handwriting to text (and it works fairly well.)

Another big selling point for me was the Compact Flash slot, which allows me to add hardware peripherals. I already ordered a Linksys 802.11b Wi-fi card so I can get on the Internet at home and on campus, and the Axim and Linksys card together will be much less expensive than the Toshiba e740 or any other wireless PDA. The Axim also has a Secure Digital memory card slot like most other PDA's.

I can sync my Outlook contacts, calendar, tasks, memos, and e-mail inbox, plus Microsoft Money. When the Wi-fi card arrives, I won't even need to put the Axim in its cradle to synchronize; I'll be able to synchronize over the wireless network. I have also installed Adobe Acrobat reader and an e-book reader.

I'm thinking about making my next computer a Mac, so I was glad to find out that there is third-party software to synchronize a Pocket PC with a Mac (pocketmac.net).

I don't like the feel of the Axim's buttons. The circular dial-pad seems flimsy and just doesn't "click" well. The scroll button on the left side of the Axim is also flimsy. The record button is kind of small.

I have never liked Microsoft Outlook, but in anticipation of the arrival of the Axim, I have been using it for the past couple weeks just hoping that I could bear it once my PDA arrived. In my opinion, Outlook is too complicated and its Pocket PC counterparts are too simple. For instance, on the Pocket PC you can't add all-day appointments to your calendar you have to do it on the PC and then synchronize. Also, you can only sort your task list by one attribute (date, or priority, etc.) instead of two (date then priority, or category then date, etc.) like on a Palm. You can't filter the task list to show only the tasks due today. (To Pocket PC's credit, you can classify each task with more than one category.) You can't mark memos as private.

The Pocket PC also brings with it some headaches we often associate with Microsoft products: the bloat of numerous operating system files, and occasional error messages like "such-and-such program is not responding...." I never saw any of that on my Palm.

Palm products are superior in the PIM (Personal Information Management) department. I will miss Palm's calendar, contacts, to-dos, and memos. However, since I was in the market for a PDA and I wanted "multimedia" functions, the price difference between the Axim and the Palm Tungsten steered me towards the former. And Pocket PC's really are ready for multimedia right out of the box. Finally, the Axim's Compact Flash slot put it above all the other Pocket PCs for me.

I'll be delighted if I can find a good, third-party PIM software package. Further, the idea of being able to add, for instance, a GPS card and track my current geographical position on a map, or any other useful Compact Flash card, makes me glad I bought the Axim. In the meantime, I'll have plenty of fun with what I've got.

I finally got my Axim X5 from Dell recently and I simply love the thing. It met and surpassed every expectation I had. The price is incredibly low, and there's almost no trade off what so ever from devices twice the price. It's an incredible deal. The size doesn't bother me one bit, and it fits very well in my jacket pocket.

The Dell runs just about anything I can throw at it, and it does it at an incredible speed. Having used only a Jornada 525 previously, I'm amazed at the 400mhz Xscale. Pocket TV plays video so smooth it's plain incredible. Video easily plays 3x faster than my Jornada. Games run fast and smooth, not even a hint of frame skip. The buttons are responsive, easy to use, and support multiple presses at once. This is wonderful, as so many in the past have failed to listen to what gamers really want. Dell listened, and they did it right.

The screen is bright and clear, not a hint of anything less than perfection. Using headphones, the sound is loud and completely static free. It could easily replace my Nomad II MP3 player if need be. Too many people whine about the size... get over it. If you want an ultra thin device, this isn't for you. So simply move on and go whine to someone else. I myself am just fine with the Dell's size, it's price and specs more than make up for it. Anyone willing to pay more to get much less is missing something in my book. Size can be important, sure, but only to a point. The Dell is no bigger than the high end Ipaqs and is in fact much smaller than an Ipaq with a CF sleeve. What more could you possibly ask for.

Basically the Axim will run just about the same as any other 400mhz Xscale out there, which will run just about the same as any 300mhz Xscale out there, both of which will probably run about the same as any 200mhz ARM out there... which all means you're not gonna notice a big difference in anything at all. Some programs will run better than others, it's a case by case thing. The vast majority will run 98% the same.

Now, to really notice a difference you'd have to be doing like me... going from a 133mhz Jornada 525 to a 400mhz Axim. There's a nice speed boost for ya. I've went from 6 fps on Pocket TV to 24 fps. From 2-3 fps on large video with no landscape support, to 18 fps full screen landscape. I'm sure with time and tweaking I'll have that at 24 easily.

See, the big joy of the Axim is what it offers that so many others don't. Dual slots are a wonderful thing to people like me. The screen is lovely. The sound is crisp. They come with a 1yr VERY fast replacement warranty. That's unreal. Incredibly long battery power, longer life ones to come, replaceable battery, spare charging slot, coolest sync cradle ever... the list is huge. Toss in $... worth of free software in the form of the top selling Rosco Picture Viewer and IA Presenter (PowerPoint viwer). All for a price that's half of what the Ipaq owners paid.

I simply love my Axim. I admit, I don't do much mobile computing and I would never make full use of a laptop. I'm simply never far enough away from a desktop computer to need a laptop. The Axim however, fits the need perfect. I've got a small device to store every bit of information I could ever need, and it's completely portable. It doesn't replace a PC, it enhances it. I can do things with my Pocket PC I would have an incredibly hard time doing with even the smallest of notebook computers.

A typical usage of the Pocket PC for me is while waiting in lines, or just waiting in general. I've got several amazingly fun games stored to play, ebooks to read, music to listen to, websites to read (news, weather, tech, stocks), and much more. I also use it to keep track of all my tasks, appointments, assignments, notes, and alarms. The Dell comes with Rosco Picture Viewer, so I store photos of friends and family. (I'm not the type to carry pictures in his wallet) I also carry my entire art gallery. Sometimes I use it to reflect, sometimes to use as reference, sometimes to show. For whatever reasons, it's there when I need it.

Basically Pocket PC's have filled a deep need in my day to day life for mobile information. I always longed for a laptop, but now that I've used Pocket PC's I no longer believe I need one. I love Pocket PC's and the Dell is by far the best one I've owned, and in my opinion, the best deal on the market today without question.

Before you buy the Dell Axim PocketPC, be sure to ask the seller what operating system it runs and what ROM version it has. Avoid getting one that runs Windows Mobile 2003 OS and has a ROM version of A04, which, according to many users including myself, is a defective configuration that causes tremendous slowdown. If you get one with WM2003, be sure it has a ROM version of A05, which is the fix Dell provided in Sept '03 to eliminate the slowdown. If you still want to buy a WM2003 A04 unit, be sure to contact Dell to send you a ROM update to A05 on CD (you can only get this update from the CD, and not via download). Dell also automatically sends this CD update to those who bought an A04 unit. So, ask your seller if he or she already got this CD from Dell. Of course, you can always order a new Axim directly from Dell, because as of now, Dell is only shipping the fixed, WM2003 A05 units.

After updating to A05 ROM, everything runs faster on the Axim. Programs like MS Reader and certain games like Hexacto's Bounty Hunter Pinball, which ran very sluggishly with A04 ROM, are much faster and much more usable. Browsing in File Explorer and contact list also no longer takes an eternity.

PocketPCs have become increasingly versatile the last few years. They are no longer just electronic address and appointment books, but devices that can run a variety of add-on software -book readers, music players, video players, networking utilities, web browsers, GPS viewers, database viewers, etc. Their biggest advantage AND disadvantage, however, is their small size. Although much easier to carry than laptop PCs, their small screen size sometimes makes it difficult to view or to key in material. The miniature batteries that they use also are unable to generate long-lasting power. The Dell Axim PocketPC, which has one of the better battery packs, only can offer about 8 hours of continuous use. It uses significantly more power while running Wi-Fi or multimedia applications. It also uses a little bit of power while turned off in order to retain memory content. If the power runs out, all your data will be lost.

One inconvenience in WM2003 is that, to check battery status, you have to tap the screen a few times to go into the Power Settings screen. Some third-party utilities show you an on-screen battery indicator. You can also use the Dell "Switcher Bar" utility, pre-installed on the Axim, to quickly switch to the Power Settings screen.

The Dell Axim 400 MHz PocketPC and the cheaper, earlier 200 MHz model are the only two PocketPCs Dell has made, but they have surged in popularity because of their low prices. The Axim 400MHz has an admittedly "bare" configuration out of the box. It does not come with Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth connectivity, and includes only a few full-version software titles: Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, MS Reader, Internet Explorer, Pocket MSN, Windows Media 9, a terminal service client, a picture viewer, and a few simple games.

The Dell Axim runs on a rechargeable and detachable main and backup batteries. The included cradle is able to simultaneously recharge the Axim and another battery (if you ever decide to buy another battery pack). You can also recharge the Axim with the included DC power cable.

The cradle is also used for transferring and/or synchronizing data between the Axim and your desktop PC. You need to install the provided ActiveSync 3.7 and Outlook 2002. ActiveSync 3.7 is required for WM2003, and it can be downloaded on the Microsoft web site. It allows you to view the content inside the Axim in an Explorer view, lets you drag and drop files to or from it, and lets you synchronize content between Outlook and the PocketPC. Outlook 2002, the desktop personal organizer software, is a commercial product and cannot be downloaded on the web. And it needs to be activated to be used, and cannot be re-activated on the same PC without contacting Microsoft. If you buy the Axim from a seller, make sure he or she hasn't already activated it.

The Dell Axim is rather heftly. It weighs about 7 ounces, and almost 3/4 inch thick. So it may be difficult to put it in your shirt pocket or in your trousers.

Regarding the brightness of the Axim's color screen, in an office with strong fluorescent light sources, it is barely adequate, in my opinion, even at the highest brightness setting. Under direct sunlight, it is nearly impossible to see. If you use the Axim outdoors a lot, this may be a problem. The screen looks best under incandescent lights or low-light conditions. (Those who have used old Palm devices with monochrome displays will find this amusing: monochrome displays look best under bright lights and worst in low-light conditions, and color displays are just the reverse.)

To make data entry easier, the Axim includes hand-writing recognition ability and Graffiti recognition for former Palm users. You can also use the on-screen qwerty-style keyboard. A stylus is also included.

If you use the stylus to poke and scratch on the screen a lot, consider getting a screen protector. The screen is a vital and fragile part of the Axim or any PocketPC and is prone to damage. You can buy professionally-made screen protectors, or you can make your own like I do -I use an Avery transparent laminate and slide it into the little openings at the edges of the screen.

The Axim has a built-in clock and alarm, but one annoyance is that the alarm doesn't always ring, even after the A05 ROM fix. This is reportedly a bug in WM2003 (i.e. a Microsoft problem). However, I found a freeware alarm called "StopTime" that does the job nicely.

I bought an Axim 5 performance 2 months ago, about when they were first available. It replaced another pocket pc (I won't name the brand, but they are listed as a cutting edge maufacturer.)

It arrived in a large unmarked brown box with everything packed inside in smaller boxes. I also ordered the High Capacity battery with it, which proved to be unnecessary (I should have just got the extra regular capacity battery at no cost, as the battery life is phenomeninal.) I gave it it's first charge, and since I had Active Sync 3.6 already installed, I hooked her up. Problem number 1: no connection. Had to delete partnership and establish new partnership.

With everything sync'ed, I tried her out. Good form factor: the Axim has a rep as a "brick" but I thought it had a good hand fit (I didn't really want the smallest pda on the block anyway, I wanted something a little more substantial.) It has rubber grips on either side of a silver colored case that feels like metal. Large well-lit TFT screen (not quite as bright as an IPaq's, but then what is?) the regulation program buttons and a D-pad. The D-pad was kind of mushy but it worked pretty well anyway. The speaker is off to the right and covered by a metal grill. I have used it now for 2 months at work and home (I'm a pharmacist and have 2 drug databases loaded and I'm an avid reader of eBooks, having purchased over 260 titles at Fictionwise.com) it has proved to be a rock-solid performer and I have had to soft reset just 2-3 times in those 2 months. I had to hard rest once, because I use a stong alpha-numeric password that I forgot once. The hard reset is the only way to clear the unit if you forget your password.

The Axim performance uses the Intel XScale processor with stepped tech to raise or lower processor speed according to use.

This conserves battery power. I leave mine at 200mh most of the time, increasing to 400mh if playing a game or two. Usually I just leave it in automatic mode which adjusts the processor speed accordingly.

The mushy D-pad has a fix which I just downloaded from Dell's site. It is a rom upgrade (incredibally easy to implement) which also allows further refinements on the adjustment of processor speed and speeds up the power on function and the battery light.

I am something of a pda geek having owned 3 palms and 2 pocket pc's and can say that this is one of the best I've ever owned. I read reviews on new products constantly and haven't found anything that offers the same features and performance for this price, even on reviews of items that were rated much higher.

The Dell Axim is one of the best deals for a Pocket PC I have seen in a long time. Not only is this Pocket PC powerfull, but it has two expansion slots which you can use for memory and accessories. The screen colors are brilliant, and I feel this is one of the best Pocket PCs on the market. The only downfall that this Pocket PC does have is that it is slightly large. However, it's rival Compaq which has the same specs (no Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard slot) is the same size, but nearly twice the price. So if you are going to be buying a Pocket PC, I think Dell is the way to go.

The only thing I could want would be a little bit more space inside to hold more stuffbut of course it would be heavier then. Overall an amazing bag. The next nicest bag would be a Tumi that I was eyeing for $175. :)

Edit: after using this bag for a few weeks, the only complaint that I now have is that the adjustable shoulder strap, which is easy to adjust, also easily unadjusts on its own. Every few days, I have to re-tighten the strap to my desired length. Still very satisfied with this bag overall.

Edit #2: the strap on this bag is awful. Frays and basically falls apart after a few weeks-months of use. Luckily the item comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I emailed them and they had a replacement strap to me in no time. However, replacement strap also of same poor quality. I ended up replacing it with a strap from another messenger bag. Strap aside though, the build quality of this bag continues to be very good.

This product was very easy to install and use but didn't last very long. After almost a year of trouble-free use, it suddenly stopped working. When I tried to read the contents of my CompactFlash card, the little light would blink like it is working but never stopped to show the contents of the card. Sony doesn't exactly develop the newest technology, but nobody

has better designers and nobody can refine an idea like Sony.

The SJ33 is the case in point today: I'm a former Handspring Visor owner, when it was the first PDA to come in colors and the first to come with 8 Megs and an advanced version of the Palm OS.

It was cutting-edge then... and the SJ33, while not cutting-edge any longer, will fill the bill for former Handspring Visor owners and newcomers alike.

First, the display is color, 65k colors worth and bright as all heck. You want to keep a virtual picture frame on your desk, this is a nifty 320x320 screen for displaying hundreds of wallet-sized photos.

Second, MP3s out of the box. Sure, no Memory Stick is included, and you are limited to 128 Meg Sticks at that (the new 256 Sticks are merely double-sided 128s), but you score a few Sticks, and you've got nearly as much MP3 space as a CD. And because it's solid state memory, no shock, no skip, just pure sound.

Third, it comes with the best software bundle of any PDA today. In fact, all Sony handhelds come with superior bundles: Documents to Go lets you view *and* edit Word and Excel documents; Intellisync is the best sync software for Outlook users, bar none; the games are terrific, but Bejeweled is possibly the most addictive game since Tetris; and the utilities for viewing and managing music, photos, and movies (yep, movies too) are far beyond my expectations.

Fourth, it's a Lithium-Ion battery, so you charge it whenever you're not using it, and just go. It lasts awhile, not nearly 9 hours if you're playing Bejeweled constantly or listening to MP3s, but you can go a whole day easy.

Fifth, those flip cases come in colors. I'm sorry, but a little funk in your PDA is a must. I dig colors, and I'm gonna score me that excellent orange one soon.

Now, the bits that kept a fifth star from alignment in the Clie Constellation:

#1 The SJ33 doesn't support Memory Stick Pro, so if you think you want 256, 512, or even 1 Gb Memory Stick space, you have to go a different route, like the NZ series or T series Clies.

#2: MP3 encoding from bundled software is limited to 128kps, 44Hz encoding. If you like 192 or even 256k encoding, you need 3rd party software. Good news is I can play my 192 or 256-bit MP3s with no problems.

#3: The Jog Dial is very cool, but a bit small and stiff. You need some serious dexterity to properly use it while holding the unit (heh, I said "unit").

#4: Palm OS 4.1. Keeps the costs down, keeps the software in the greatest compatibility, but Sony's lead time could've allowed for Palm 5. And it's not truly upgradable either: you patch it. Ah well.

#5: It doesn't come with a cradle. Yeah, the fifth star is withheld on that alone. Cradles are a necessity, and while I do give Sony credit for the compact travel sync/ charge option, I expect a cradle with any PDA. Period.

Let's sum up. A solid four stars, a really good choice for your 1st PDA (it'll go around two hundred), an outstanding upgrade from older PDAs (especially B&Ws and lo-res color), and an all-around high performer. If you don't need a camera, Memory Stick Pro capacities, or Palm OS 5, this is your best bang for the buck.

I upgraded from a Handspring Visor Deluxe that I have been using for almost 3 years. The Clie's higher resolution screen and text look really nice. Colors are bright indoors (a little washed in sunlight). Battery life is very good although I wished they would have included a cradle for recharging and synching. Sony only included cables that plug directly into a port at the bottom of the pda.

I really enjoy the built-in mp3 player and the jog-dial on the side. The unit fits nicely in my front pocket where it can be quickly accessed. Installation and setup were a snap.

Pros Summary:

Summary: This is my third handheld, and I'm quite impressed with it. Before this I've used two Palms, the 130 and the 515. I always give my old gadgets away to family because I love keeping up with the latest.

The first thing that should strike you is the great look. This is a handsome PDA; although built with plastic, and not metal, it doesn't take away from the quality feel.

The screen is great. Way better than the Palm 130 and 515, and much better than most Power PC's I've seen. With the backlight on I'm able to utilize it non stop for about 9-10 hours, so this will last you probably about 2 weeks with average use.

The processor speed is lightening quick, I was able to move around while playing MP3's with no lag, also playing MPEG's was a great experience. With the 128 or 256 or bigger meg memory sticks you can fit a huge amount of multimedia in there.

My favorite thing about this as opposed to the Power PC is the speed with which I can just open up and use it. This is a great OS first and foremost, and doesn't have TSR's and other BS piggybacking it like the Power PC OS.

I am a first time Palm OS PDA buyer. I have owned other PDAs before, but never a "Palm". So I did a little research and was ready to purchase a Sony Clie SJ-30. I happened to notice the SJ-33 on display in the store and sat and compared the two for a while. I went with the SJ-33, and WOW, am I impressed.

The Sony Clie SJ-33 is easy to setup, easy to use, and quite asthetically (sorry, if I misspelled that) pleasing. The cover fits nicely and securely over the face and the buttons so I can carry my PDA in my pocket without accidentally starting something. The screen is clear and easy to read. And synching your information is a snap (or should I say a tap...okay, bad joke).

The only drawbacks I see are the lack of a cradle for synching and charging. The SJ-33 uses one adaptor that fits into two cables (one for synching, the other for charging). A bit cumbersome, but I can deal with it. I have to agree with the other reviewers who say that the battery drains a bit quickly.

Other than those two drawbacks, I have absolutely no complaints about the Sont Clie SJ-33. I have only had it for about a week but am VERY pleased. I can't wait for my memory sticks to arrive from Amazon so I can try out the built-in MP3 player.

I've been a Palm and Pocket PC user for about 3 1/2 years now, and I've had a number of models, and I'm a big believer in PDAs as a powerful and handy personal organizing tool. Also they double as Gameboys and eBook readers, so you'll never be bored waiting in the doctor's office or standing in the checkout line ever again. Or I just think up more useful ways to use my Palm, which isn't hard.

This is another very nice PDA from Sony. Not all users will need these features, however. If you don't need the MP3 player, which will reduce battery life, you might want to just get the Sony SJ22 instead, which is 35% cheaper, and has an even slimmer profile. It also has an audio recording function, which not all users may need, but the speaker actually doesn't sound too bad considering it's probably about the size of a postage stamp. Headphones are included, though, if you want to listen to music.

One nice thing is the size and profile. This unit is also about half an inch shorter than the PEG T655 and T615 models, similar to the Palm Tungsten, and along with it and the SJ22, are the first color models to really fit in your front pocket, where I like to carry mine. The integral plastic flip-up cover looks better than the leather flaps on the SJ22 and T655 and T665 models too, and the case has nicely rounded contours that fit better in your hand compared to the latter models, which are more rectangular.

With a 66-MHz processor, twice the speed of the recent PEG T665 and T655, units, there is almost no time lag between pressing a function button and having the application pop up, although they all have the same amount of memory--16 megs. I like to store a lot of ebooks on my Palm, and that's enough for at about 50 typical length novels or other books in Palm format, which run about 200k to 400k per book. If you add on a 128-meg memory stick, which you can get pretty cheap these days, that means you could store 400 books on your Palm Pilot--a virtual library in the palm of your hand. Pretty cool.

I compared the brightness of the screen with the Handspring Prizm, which has a very bright screen, and also the Palm Tungsten, the Sony PEG T665, and the Palm Zire, and they're all comparably bright. The screen is partially back-reflective TFT technology which is solidly established as the display of choice for these devices now, and it works very well, being visible both outiside and inside. That fixed the problem with early color units like the original Palm IIIc and the HP Jornada which could only be read indoors or at least not in bright daylight. However, you'll notice one characteristic of these screens, ever since their advent on the Compaq iPAQ 3650 Pocket PC, is the slightly milky appearance of the screen. It's not that annoying, however, and is a small price to pay for outdoor visibility.

Lastly, the Sony models all have the jog-wheel and the back-button, which makes them almost completely capable of one-handed operation, and is much more convenient that the Palm models. I hope the American Association of Disabled Persons is taking note, here, and will make this their officially approved PDA.

For my money this unit is a better buy than the Tungsten at almost a 40% cheaper price, since I don't care about the built-in Bluetooth technology in the Palm, although don't get me wrong, the Tungsten is a great unit. But the lack of software fully supporting OS 5.0 in the Tungsten means you're better off with OS 4.1 in the Sonys.

My only gripe is that the back button, compared to the SJ22, is hard to access, being just below the jog-wheel and not as prominent as on the SJ22. You almost have to hit it with the edge of your fingernail.

Overall, however, another great PDA from Sony at a competitive price.

i attached to an itouch with no trouble.. just charge it, turn on bluetooth in itouch general settings, hit seek button at top right on keyboard and back on the itouch choose it to pair in bluetooth settings.....keyboard is very small..better for thumb typing but easier than touch board!

Using a Samsung Captivate (I) along with the recent Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade, I can now get the keyboard to pair and connect. No additional drivers or apps are needed.. Previously I could not get the Mini Bluetooth Keyboard to work under Android 2.1. The Cappy and the keyboard would pair, but not connect. I tried sideloading various bluetooth keyboard drivers without success. The Mini Bluetooth Keyboard is a HID device as shown by Android 2.2 Bluetooth diagnostics. There has been some discussion about Bluetooth HID not being supported by Android 2.1.

It is a very small keyboard as advertised (60x115x10mm, slightly smaller than the Captivate). It is an oversized thumb keyboard with good key travel. The four-way scroll is nice. Using it essentially doubles the viewable screen on the Captivate when keyboarding-not a very strong selling point, but this is true of any external keyboard with any iPhone-like cellphone. However, since the Captivate has video output, one can convert a Samsung Galaxy S phone into a frugal, bareboned travel "nirvana computer" by carrying the mini-keyboard and the right cable to connect the headphone jack to a TV's RCA plugs: keyboard+cables=135 g (5 oz) at a cost of $US20.

Kenko 3.0" Multi-Layer LCD Monitor Protection Film for General Use

This product applies easily, stick well and looks fantastic on my Pentax K-7. Unfortunately I only used it for a few hours. I removed it and threw it in the trash. I wanted this product to work so badly but my wishes were not granted. As soon as my nose touched it, it was all down hill from there. I attempted to simply wipe away the facial oil with my finger like I would on glass and it left a horrible haze that I could barely see through. I then tried wiping it with a dry lens cloth and that didn't help either. Finally I had to use a liquid lens cleaner and cloth to clean off the protection film. Bottom line, in order to use the protection film for more than an hour, I had to fully clean it more than a handful of times. I am going try using a PDA lens protection film since they are cheaper, easy to find and from experience easier to clean and see through.

I bought one for my Leica D-Lux 3 and both the card and the reader work fine. However, if you are shooting RAW files, the write speed is very, very slow. So you might want to look at the Ultra version of this which I think costs about $20 more.

This high capacity card transfers its images to my computer a bit slowly using the supplied micromate reader which you will need unless you use the camera itself. I noticed that its transfer rate is about 2.5 MB/second which translates into a little less than 1/2 hour for all the images if you fill the card to capacity. I have other Sandisk SD cards that are much faster but I will use this card for travel when I am more concerned with capturing many pictures and am willing to wait to transfer them to my computer when I get home.

I received excellent delivery times from Amazon and its supplier for this product and have never lost a picture due to a Sandisk card failure or had any compatibility issues with Sandisk memory cards. I rate the card 3 stars because of its speed; otherwise the card and its reader work well.

I bought two of this memory card as an offer. The card works pretty well with my D40x Nikon. It works pretty fast with with my huge mega pixel photos. However, My computer cannot read the card without the card reader that comes with it. I do not suggest you get the card alone, make sure you get the card reader with it.

I purchased this memory card for use with a new Sanyo digital video camera. The memory worked great. No problems in the camera recognizing the card to full capacity. The speed of the memory was fine for the standard definition video I shot. The included USB adapter made it very easy to move the picture and video files to multiple computers.

I used this 4GB memory card and took 850 photos, and 10 or so video clips on a 13 day tour of the UK with resolution at 2,272 x 1,704 with my Canon S3 IS. I only used up 1.5GB. No worries about a full card and the reader made it easier to plug directly into the computer's usb. As the fine print says though, the reader will only work with this 4GB memory card. I tried it on a 1GB SanDisk without success.

Works very well. you can swipe across the page in any direction and it figures out how to produce a right-side-up image (read the manual for settings). produces usable results even if you do it one-handed without being very careful. LCD shows preview of scanned result if you stick with JPG mode (no preview in PDF mode). Eats batteries starts to produce garbled images and shuts down randomly after I scanned about 20 ~ 30+ pages on a fresh set of alkaline AA cells. But it does not need batteries if you use it inside the sheetfeeder dock (runs off provided power adapter). will not scan when connected to usb shows up as a external drive.

This scanner eats batteries by the boxfull. I emailed the distributer the day after I received it because I thought the one I received was defective. I can't scan more than a dozen pages without replacing the batteries. My old VuPoint scanner lasted 2 weeks before I needed to change the batteries. Now I change them everyday.

Also the document feeder jams often, but thats ok, since I can only use that feature on 10% of the documents with which I work.

I have yet to hear back from the distributer and its been over a month since I emailed them.

I saw a review that said that this does not work with Mac as advertised, but it does. I bought this for use with my Macbook Air primarily to use to for console connections on network devices. My Mac did not recognize the device until I installed the PL2303 driver. This can be found on the driver disc that comes with the product. But since I don't have a CD drive in my Macbook Air, I downloaded the driver from here: . The PL2303 driver is also needed for use on Linux, but most popular Linux distributions already have it installed.

I previously owned the USB-to-Serial adapter depicted in the picture above, and recently misplaced it. So I bought this product (DX-UBDB9) at a Best Buy. It is the same part number as the one mentioned on this page, but it was not the one in the picture above. I'm not sure if Dynex updated the product and kept the same part number or what. However, mine is Tan, not Grey. And my only trivial complaint is that the one I purchased has some kind of a transformer midway through the cable, where the one in the picture on this page didn't have one and was, therefore, slightly less bulky.

Windows 7 linked me to the drivers no problem, I was surprised to find a piece of hardware that 7 didn't already have pre-installed.

XP was a bit more problematic due to the manufactures lack of support. I was able to find them on a risqué third party site.

After assigning a comm port to it has been a great product to use, without any hiccups.

I bought this assuming a USB and a serial interface were the same. Not true in all cases. If you are looking to interface a hot sync Palm platform, via a DB9 to USB cable, you need a special conversion interface in-line system which can be had for about $13. It pays to do your homework. The cable is great, but not for the application I intended.

I have used a couple different USB to RS-232 converters and I am quite pleased with this one. It is compact, robust, and works well. There are no status lights not important for my use but maybe for others. I use a HP EliteBook 8440p running Windows XP.

I haven't tested this device with anything but my Windows 7 laptop but I found it installed fairly quickly. I bought a used one it worked just fine your milage may vary. I plan on using to configure network switches so bear in mind I'm not doing indepth testing just need a com port on laptop that doesn't have one. I hope you find this useful!
