I bought this package originally in search of only the sleeve case. When it came however I found myself using the screen protector as well as the stylus. The stylus works great with my ipad and it's nice to be able to clip it into the headphone jack. I had originally bought a $40 screen protector from best buy and when trying to place it on I found that I was extremely disappointed and out $40. Luckily I had purchased this package and the screen protector is Much better than the first one I tried. Very happy with my purchase! Would definitely recommend. Fast shipping as well!

I like this product. It's nice and cushiony and provides additional protection for my ipad. I can still use it even though I put it on over the new ipad front/back case. I just don't zip it. But I like the extra protection.

Serial Adapter - Plug-in Module - Compactflash Card - RS-232 - 921 Kbps
  • Works in the CompactFlash slot of Pocket PCs, Windows CE-based PCs, and Handheld PC Pros
  • Acts like a Windows COM port
  • Compatible with external high-speed modems
  • 115.2 Kbps
  • Includes an irremovable cable with molded strain relief

I purchased this to connect a Dell PDA to a Raven GPS system. It works very well for this combination. I have also purchased a "non-ruggedized version," and I wouldn't recommend it unless absolutely necessary. It is little more flimsy in the connection between the cable and the CF card, and extra care needs to be taken when handling the "non-ruggedized" version. Overall, I am very pleased with this product.

I did not like it because it would not work for the application for which I purchased it. I was using it to access a Vaisala 555B weather station. I tried an early version Quatech Model: SSCFR-100 which worked great with my Dell Axim X50 PDA. I don't understand why it would not work.

We have been trying to use the I/O card with a Jornada 548 with Fowler Gages' digital calipers and Taltech's CE-Wedge software. We were warned by Socket Communications that there was a potential problem with freezing up if the serial com port was not turned off before turning off the computer. Based on this, we purchased the card and were careful not to do this, but found that after 1-3 hours of work, the computer froze up to the point that we needed to remove the battery to get it to turn off. Based on this with 2 computers, we do not recommend the combination. Socket agrees that there is a problem with the driver, but has no plans to make any changes. Suggests using a Compaq IPAQ instead.

Easy installation for my Casio E115, I used it to connect to a barcode scanner for stocktaking a warehouse. The speed is ok (I wonder if there're 4Mbps models anyway?), and the connectors seem to be stretchable and durable enough for the job.

Easy to put on, just have to line it up with the outline of the Kindle Fire. GREAT PRODUCT. Only reason I don't buy more is because I don't have multiple Kindles.

Love my new Kindle Fire case. Great value for the price. My only qualm is that the channels that allow you to prop the Kindle on it's side smudge the screen in two long lines when the case is closed. Not a real issue at all, but for a perfectionist like myself who hates smudges, it's a tiny pet peeve. Thanks for a great product and the quick shipping.

  • Constructed of premium black leather, this slim fitting and classically designed carrying case will fit any clothing style or fabric.

  • Secure magnetic closure simplifies case operation and provides quick and easy access. No snaps or buttons to align or secure.
  • Case provides functionality with a streamlined shape. A great look for both casual or business setting.

This is the best case that I have found. It is very well made of quality materials and well constructed. The picture does not do it justice. You have to see it to appreciate it's good looks and feel. I work maintenance in a factory and tried other cases, even the Palm hard case, this is the best. The Palm fits perfect like a finely made glove. If you are looking for a non-executive style case for a rugged application that still looks great I highly recomend this one.

Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome buy. You won't find an iPad3 case anywhere on the market of this quality for this low of a price. The stylus works great and together it's a great combination. A stylus and case just like this one cost about 20 bucks a pop on SALE at the best buy near my house. So to get them both for less is awesome. The case is more flexible than I had hoped. It is firm enough to stand up, but I don't even want to bother rotating it because I have found it goes a little limp if I stand it up long ways. It is also difficult to rotate. But I truly only needed to stand my iPad up horizontally so it's not a big deal. The sleep mode feature works well and the iPad 3 fits great. Overall I can say I am satisfied! And thanks for the free gift :)

I want to note that the case has a smell when it first comes out of the plastic but it wears off within two days. No biggie!

Chapin Premier Poly Sprayer

Chapin 26021 Pro Series Poly 2 Gallon SprayerMy husband cuts grass for a living on the side of his main job. He has used every sprayer on the market from the big box stores. None of them lasted. He loves these sprayers and has them in two sizes. Hasn't had to replace one yet and has owned them for at least 3 years!

I expect I'll be using this sprayer for many years. It's commercial grade in every respect. Heavy duty and very well made. Spray options are somewhat coarse compared to other sprayers I have. Oh, I have never seen a sprayer of this grade or quality in the garden or hardware stores.

Buy Chapin Premier Poly Sprayer Now

I have only used this sprayer twice, but so far I am very impressed. Everything about it looks and feels quality-made. I was quite honestly expecting less, but from the heavy duty hose and comfortable rubber coated handle (doesn't feel like a toddler toy) to the smooth and solid pump action, this thing feels as if was made to last! I didn't really need an all metal unit so this model works perfectly for me, and the price was really good considering the quality. Spray wand has a removable angled end which has already proved itself useful. The pump unit tightens securely without needing a pipe wrench and removes with minimal effort. The relief valve is also handy.

I used to spend as much (or more) on sprayers from home improvement stores, and they typically lasted about one season. The last one was so cheesy that I couldn't wait until it stopped working just to throw it out (the pump leaked air no matter how much I tightened it and then it was nearly impossible to remove, handle leaked and so on...). Now I actually don't mind using a sprayer once again. I probably bought one a year for the last 8 years and if my expectations are correct, this sprayer is going to be around for a while. It's a very good value.

Read Best Reviews of Chapin Premier Poly Sprayer Here

I ordered this sprayer due to it's 3 gallon size and previous experience with Chapin sprayers. All the parts are good quality. The long wand and tubing are helpful in reaching areas without having to actually walk all the way over to them. However, the sealing surface on the top of the tank is not flat. I had issues with getting a good seal and had to clean up the sealing surface with a knife. It still requires a very tight cap to make it seal. Getting the cap off is a chore because there is nothing to hang on to so you can get some leverage to get it off. I don't really like to bear hug a tank that may have herbicide residue on it. I would give this 5 stars, if they had paid more attention to the sealing surface and put some grab points on the tank.

I have had several sprayers that quit working after one or two times. I also had to pump them often. This sprayer is very easy to use. and it is a good size. I used the flat spray nozzle on my patio to get rid of moss. It did a better job than I expected!

NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus (Diskless) Network Attached Storage RNDP600U

NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus Network Attached Storage RNDP600U
  • 6-bay DLNA Certified NAS System with anytime multimedia streaming features
  • Maximum performance for cutting-edge prosumers (advanced home users/media enthusiasts)
  • First NAS system to offer mobile access and streaming using Orb transcoding add-
  • First NAS system to offer remote DLNA media streaming using Skifta media shifting add-on
  • First NAS system to be certified TiVo Compatible, allowing users to extend the capacity of their TiVo DVRs by offloading non-protected content to their ReadyNAS for future playbacks (available in the US and Australia only)

My first NAS and I like it. I considered building one from scratch but I spend enough time doing that with my PC. I chose the ReadyNAS because it can back up my PC as well as remote backup family members (PC & Mac), has support for Squeezebox (used by my two Logitech Squeezebox Touch devices), TiVo support (useless unless DirecTV releases their promised TiVo DVR to replace their lame custom DVR). I picked the 6 bay one so I can start with 2 x Seagate Constellation ES 2 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 64 MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST32000644NS Bare Drive now and then add larger drives later as I need them and HDD capacities increase.

This review is a work in progress until the Ultra 6 Plus does everything I need it to do.

MAJOR LESSON LEARNED: Make sure you pick hard drives that are on the compatibility list:

I did make a mistake with my first two drives I got at the same time I pre ordered the ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus. Apparently Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD20EARS are not on the supported hardware list on the Netgear site. Sux, I wish I had noticed that during the day or two of research I did into NAS boxes. Maybe they need a simple how to buy guide that includes a link to the hcl list instead of springing it on you when the device arrives.

Installation:

1) You open the front cover, pop out some HDD enclosures (no tools needed) attach the drives to them using supplied screws (small philips needed) and slide them back in.

2) Attach power cord, hook up 1-2 ethernet ports.

3) Power up and during the 10 mins or so it formats the drives you install from a CD the RAIDar software to control the box.

4) Follow the RAIDar setup wizard, add some shares, change password, add self as a user.

5) Plug in APC 900VA 120V Backup-UPS XS900 (BX900) usb monitoring cable. It recognizes it and can even display an estimated remaining time left for it.

6) Update to RAIDiator 4.2.15 (x86) which updates the box firmware.

7) Coffee time as it spends about 5-6 hours doing stuff including syncing.

Everything is simplicity itself and shares are visible from the PC.

Problem:

The non-compatible drives did indeed not work. The ReadyNAS forums contain instructions to use "wdiddle3" to diddle the drives into working. This seems bad because you are disabling a feature on the drive you paid for and anecdotal evidence of it working seems inadequate. Instead I am upgrading to a pair of Seagate Constellation ES 2 TB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s 64 MB Cache 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive ST32000644NS Bare Drive. Way more expensive but they have 5 year warranties and better MTBF. As someone pointed out on the forums, the extra drive cost is insignificant compared to the cost of retrieving data off of failed drives. While I wait for these to ship I am up and running with a pair of Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Black SATA 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD2001FASS drives from Fryes, which are identical to the constellations but lacking some vibration control features. Hopefully ReadyNAS will add more of the cheap WD Green line to the compatibility list.

One day I need to do the math of cheap RAID drives vs expensive RAED drives and the MTBF implications. RAED (Redundant Array of Expensive Disks) is: harsh on the pocket book; not in the spirit of RAID; not a real word.

Remote Access:

The ReadyNAS Remote software is quite nice for accessing from a remote location. Basically you install, follow a simple wizard, supply it with your email address and a user name. This gets stored on a NetGear server (I assume), since it takes about 5 minutes or so to become available. At that point, using the ReadyNAS web interface, you look up the email address and assign that person access and file space. They now have access and can mount folders they have access to. The email rigmarole is to get around needing the ReadyNAS on a static ip. In a couple of years after the ipv6 switch this kind of thing will no longer be necessary.

The process is simple when following the web documentation. Confusing if you do not RTFM. I like UI to be explorable, needing docs means the UI is flawed imo. Still you can get the job done if you do in fact read the manual. The registration delay of the email address is also confusing as it makes it seem like it is not working.

I did not fully explore the remote aspects yet for PC as the connection I was on (at&t premium dsl, prolly 4Mbps down / 128KBs up) was flaky as hell. Write speeds to the Readynas ranged from an acceptable +/75 Kbps one day to 15 Kbps the next. By the next time I try this it will be a Charter cable modem with 50Mbps down / 5 Mbps up. That should eliminate network performance from the equation. Sigh, if only Verizon did not stop rolling out Fios.

The process worked quite easily from a friend's Mac. There is support for time machine if you have a Mac on the local network. I do not know if it is feasible over the internet.

Having the ReadyNAS on a static ip made all this remote work easy as I could get to the admin page remotely.

Backup:

The install CD contains 3 licenses for "Memeo Pro". This is sketchy as there are no recent reviews for them and the ones from 2008 are terrible. Filled with misgivings I bailed on it. I do not know why Memeo is bundled. It does not show up on any of the many backup software reviews I went through.

Instead I am using the built in Windows 7 backup to store the entire system image and all files and followed directions to save my encryption certificates as well. This should enable a full system restore. Additionally for the media folder I am using Microsoft's free SyncToy 2.1(x64) to mirror the media on my PC. This way I, and iTunes, can muck around on my PC and then sync to the ReadyNAS so SqueezeBox can play my music.

If I had to use paid backup software I would likely choose something like True Image Home 2011 Plus or Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 (1 PC).

Raid:

Regular raid modes 0/1/5/6 are supported. The default is a proprietary X-RAID2. X-RAID2 lets you replace or add a drive at any time and then repeat after the sync completes. The web site has a good animation that explores how it works. It also allows you to run with 1 or 2 disk redundancy. I think this implies a performance hit as this is not a hardware accelerated function. The flexibility you get makes it worth it in my opinion.

Squeezebox:

Upgrading to the latest SqueezeCenter server software is easy and straightforward by following instructions on the web. After upgrading, a few management settings are all that is required to get the server running. Voila, NAS based music streaming. Performance seems fine on the 133 GB of music I have ripped so far. However I need to go back and separate out the cover art into a folder.jpg file for each CD folder. This would add more overhead, if only when scanning. More on that later.

Performance:

I used Iometer to run some local tests with the ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus on a network mapped drive. Sequential writes were about 83 Mbps, reads were 41 Mbps. This is with no performance tuning like using jumbo frames, teaming both network connections, etc. Sadly my NIC does not support jumbo frames and teaming is impractical since I have only a single ethernet port on the PC motherboard. More after I buy some gear to support this.

Opening up the share in explorer and dragging some files (3GB music folders) to and from it has windows reporting 55 Mbps (maybe my own drives are slow or only 5400rpm vs 7200rpm for the Constellations). The initial rates range up to 80 90 Mbps and then drop over time. That seems to indicate initial caching effects skewing the average.

The highest rate I saw so far was 155 Mbps, for syncing operations on the NAS itself.

The read speed being half the write speed is weird. I would expect read to be double the speed due to dual disk redundancy. However I am using a proprietary ReadyNAS "X-RAID2" mode that allows easy 1 disk at a time expansion / replacement which may just not behave as I would expect.

Networking:

The NAS has two gigabit ethernet ports. They can be teamed to provide increased throughput and fail over redundancy (assuming your router / switch supports it).

Impressions:

* Noise. On boot up it is extremely loud. 70 80 decibels. After a few minutes it settles down to

Craig Wireless Netbook Android 2.2

Craig Wireless Netbook Android 2.2
  • Operating System - Android 2.2
  • CPU Frequency - 800MHz
  • NandFlash - 4GB
  • Built-in 256MB DDR II
  • 7 inch Digital Display (800 x 480)

For $80 I would expect at least an operational computer, however this Craig 7-inch netbook cannot even maintain an Internet connection to either of the wireless routers I attempted to connect to. It streams data for all of 15 seconds before dropping the connection and telling me that the router is "out of range," which of course is rubbish in each instance. The keyboard is also incredibly small and unwieldy. I am frankly a very fast typist, but the awkward keyboard on the Craig netbook has reduced me to hunt-and-peck. Therefore this machine is stalled out of the gate by the fact that I can't even use it. I would love to say what else is inevitably wrong with the performance of this cheapo "netbook," but I won't even get the chance to find out because I'm returning it immediately! (On behalf of the purchaser, mind you. I would never fall for this Black Friday gimmick on my own account.)

An absolutely terrific tool! Connects to my Hi-Def big screen tv, to my pc or my Blackberry mobile as USB or to Charge or to Sync. Further, it screen-rotates and is a remote controller or Presentation device. This post repeats my reply to 'ES' low-star review. ES may have thought they got a 4.0, but got a 2.0 by mistake. So this review covers 'issues' for both. Too, B+N Kindle-Page reviewers really slammed this product. That was a B-I-G motivator for me to get the Craig. So, here are all user helps...

"I don't work for RiteAid or Android I'm just a power user and like portable-gear.

Please reconsider returning this mere $80 so you end up with all the same problems after spending it's $350 colleagues' cost! This RiteAid Craig $80 install of Android 4.0 (or 2.0) has complainers in ebay, amazon, B+N all due to ... User Error. If you accidentally got 2.0 instead, check for auto-updates. The 4.0 version is visible on the box cover and is SO much more loaded (HDMI 3Dgaming Ethernet vid/cam 3usb card-reader etc with the Tablet only slightly varied).

1--Dropped connection. After install/link/connection, most pc's need a reboot. Netbooks are the same. All connecting is automatic beyond the user's first wifi 'install, reboot, wait a few seconds to let it initialize and orient.' No per-use action required ever (except you choose which wifi connect from your popup list you made from your ... library, coffee shop, home network, etc).

2--DOA. Dead after 3 hours use happens when users omit either rule: charge 4 hours before using, or, you'll damage the battery if you charge it over 24 hours straight.

3--Keyboard/Mouse Speed. The 'Settings' includes a keyboard speed adjustment, if you use an add-on mouse, your mouse's software has adjustable settings.

4--File transfer problems, for anything beyond wifi you can resolve it through downloading (free) ES File Explorer in the Android's numerous bundled free apps.

5--Web access fails. Using the provided Browser app, and (if at Starbucks for example) keeping that wifi connect screen layered beneath your work keeps your connection (at Starbucks etc) valid and intact. Android (not Craig) set up all the apps you need, so going round about ways won't necessarily compute (esp w/ remotely wifi).

6--Total fail. Android is google-based. You need a google account (free).

7--'Cheap' command structure. Welcome to Android it's identical to their mobile phones. Don't blame RiteAid or Craig. "

I purchased this item as a replacement battery for my Palm Tungsten E. The package did not have much in the way of instructions, but that did not matter to me as I had looked up how to change the battery on the internet beforehand. For a Tungsten E you have to remove four tiny str-drive screws from the back, then remove the back (watch out. a couple of plastic pieces may come out with the case back that you will have to put back later), unsolder the two wires of the old battery, remove the old battery, solder in the replacement and put the case back together. So, you have to know soldering and have a soldering iron. You need to have a tiny star-drive to remove the screws (although a tiny flat screwdriver will work). You have to pry the old battery out because it is stuck down to the circuit board. In other words, this is not a task for your average homeowner to do, if you have the proper tools and have basic knowledge of working with soldering and circuit boards, it is not a problem. I did all of the above, resynched and everything is working fine with the battery now lasting days again instead of minutes. BEWARE synch to your desktop before starting so you do not lose any data.

Lasts forever! Left T5 in a drawer for 3 Months and battery wasn't dead! Even came with torx and little plastic crowbar. Remember how much the batteries used to retail for from Palm?

I've bought two. When I installed the first one in my Palm Tungsten E, it lasted a few months before gradually dying, swelling up inside it's plastic liner some kind of chemical reaction. I replaced it with a second unit, but this one could not be charged fully. I lost some PALM files when I accidentally wiped out my PC backup (which was my fault), because I couldn't recover them from my dead PALM. :( Now I have an iPod Touch. :)

Microsoft Wired Desktop 400 for Business

Microsoft Wired Desktop 400 for Business
  • Quiet Touch Keys - Quiet, responsive, thin-profile keys.
  • Spill-Resistant Design - Integrated water channels drain liquid away.
  • Plug-and-Play - No software needed. Just connect the keyboard and mouse to your PC and go!
  • Windows Start Button - Simply press to launch your Start menu. If you have Windows Vista installed, search your PC or the Web right from there.
  • Comfort for Either Hand: Microsoft Optical Technology - High performance tracking. Scroll wheel - Fast on-screen navigation.

I love this keyboard. It's the keyboard that we use at our work stations at my workplace. In summary, the keyboard is very quiet, responsive, and has great typing "feel."

Keyboard

* The keys' layout is spread out well, and does not feel crammed. There is good spacing between the letter keys, 6 block(insert, delete, home, end, etc.) and the numpad keys.

* The keys feel smooth and has a great feel to it. I enjoy typing on this keyboard. I can type between 70 85 wpm, and this keyboard generally lets me stay in that range.

* The entire key, starting from the left shift to the enter key of the numpad, peaks like the top of a hill. The bump is very subtle, which makes it a bit more comfortable.

Mouse

* Both the scroll's flick and mouse's clicking are response.

* It's not exactly quiet, but it's not enough to disturb your coworkers, family, and other nearby users. But, it's probably loud enough to awake your sleeping roommate and other similar situations.

Overall, this is a very simple, robust, quiet keyboard set. If you're not worried about style and glamour, this is a solid keyboard set.

I am on my computer everyday for work and after work. I was looking for a replacement for the Dell AQ6-7D20 I've been using and have not found a good option yet.

pro: long USB cord

pro: nice key-feel / touch feedback

pro: feels like reasonable quality construction

general cons: I prefer to use the elevation tabs (or whatever they call them) and combining taller elevation with the curvature of this KB feels weird. And I agree with the other reviewer the keys feel too close together.

deal-breaker: the function keys (F5 etc) are the size of a tic-tac and even more flush to the KB face than even alphanumeric keys are. I need the function keys on a regular, daily basis. The way these are presented just isn't going to work for me.

no comment: haven't tried the mouse.

general comment: I need something that will not impede my touch typing, right now this doesn't fit the bill for me, it just leaves me feeling too cramped.

I loved my cordless set, but in retirement I use my machine a lot more and the batteries were very expensive. It has a nice touch and I'm not running out to buy expensive batteries all the time. The cord has improved over my first 'corded' set, but could be more flexible.

Sony CLIE PEG-TH55/U Handheld

Sony CLIE PEG-TH55/U Handheld
  • Palm OS version 5.2, Sony Handheld Engine processor, 32 MB RAM
  • Built-in 310K Pixels CMOS Camera with 2x Digital Zoom (JPEG, 640 x 480 resolution), audio player, and video player
  • High resolution TFT Color Display (480 x 320 dots, 65,536 colors)
  • Integrated Memory Stick slot (compatible with optional Memory Stick Pro media)
  • Internal lithium-ion polymer rechargeable battery

Sorry for the long read, but I tried to be pretty comprehensive. ^_^

The design is very classy and professional, with a textured black plastic body and dark metal screen bezel. The TH-55 also features a built-in screen cover, which is a fingerprint and smudge magnet. The cover only flips back about 135 degrees, so at times it can get in the way. You can remove it, but it will leave two gaping holes in the top of the handheld. The best thing about the cover is that it is clear, allowing you to see appointments or alarms without opening it up, as well as the "viewfinder" for taking digital photos.

The digital camera is a 310,000 pixel unit capable of 640x480 photos. It has a 2x digital zoom and dedicated shutter/capture buttons on the left side of the handheld. Picture quality is decent for such a small unit, but the photos are only suitable for quick snapshots and e-mailing.

Of note is that the TH-55 has 32MB RAM with all 32MB available for use. In the past, CLIEs had memory specs like "16MB, 11 available to user." For further memory expansion, the Memory Stick slot is located on the left side and has a little door to prevent the stick from popping out. The slot supports all regular Memory Sticks, as well as the new Pro cards.

A big feature about the TH-55 is the wireless networking. Although the U.S. model had Bluetooth removed, the WiFi remains, and works very well. You'll take a noticeable hit in page loading speeds, but turning off Power Saving mode in the main prefs can help. Don't expect pages to pop up instantly though. NetFront 3.1 is the preloaded web browser, and makes for a nice handheld web experience, with various page fit options, Javascript support, and Jog Dial support.

Speaking of the Jog Dial, Sony moved it to the upper back of the PDA, right above the digital camera. This takes some getting used to for previous CLIE owners who may be used to having the Jog Dial on the side. There are also buttons to the left and right of the Jog Dial, which serve as back/forward in NetFront and previous/next in the Audio Player, among other uses.

The speaker is located on the back, and is reasonably loud. If using the TH-55 as an alarm clock, it helps to put it on its face so you can hear the alarm better. Alerts come through well, but the vibrating alarm of previous models has been removed. As with previous models, Sony also includes a Voice Recorder application.

Battery life is phenomenal; I can't honestly remember a time that an electronic device has wowed me with miserly battery consumption. When playing music with the screen off, I got 22 hours and 14 minutes in before the audio capabilities shut down. Surfing the web with WiFi enabled and the screen at half brightness, I got nearly seven hours of use (my cramped fingers!) before the networking shut off.

The great battery life is partly due to the Handheld Engine Sony uses in the TH-55, which is also used in the UX-40/50 line. It integrates a 123MHz ARM CPU, graphics core, and DSP onto one chip. The DSP helps the TH-55 play videos smoothly and decode mp3s despite the low CPU clock. Similar to Intel's SpeedStep technology, the Handheld Engine can regulate its clock speed from 8-123MHz depending on the application.

Sony's been hyping its new Clie Organizer software, but after all the talk, I went back to the standard PIM utilities. Like some third-party apps, it aims to put all utilities in one place, and allow you to move information back and forth between them. The Datebook gets a makeover, allowing you to write notes directly on the screen and add icons and pictures to your appointments. The right side of the screen is home to a tabbed launcher, which lets you access all the core apps with a simple tap. Although it's neat, the default Palm utilities do the job quicker and don't require relearning. It's not bad for a 1.0 release, but needs more speed and polish.

Sony includes Piscel Viewer on the TH-55, so you can view Microsoft Office documents. For a limited time, registering the handheld will get you a free copy of Documents to Go, which will let you edit Office documents. You get just about everything you need out of the box software-wise.

The price is right, and the machine impresses with a lot of technology packed into a small package. Battery life is great, and road warriors who don't like charging every day will love the TH-55. Despite having a low-powered CPU, multimedia doesn't suffer, and the WiFi is very handy when you don't want to fire up your main computer. The wonderful screen is the icing on the cake, but you won't be able to play games that require a joypad due to the screen taking up so much of the front. Not a bad effort from Sony with their first 320x480 tablet form handheld.

And I've owned quite a few: Palm Zire 71, Dell Axim X5, Sony Clie SJ30 and a couple more, just to name a few.

Where to begin? The screen on the TH55 is crisp and vibrant (though a little dim compared to some other models) and huge, too! The pictures from the camera, while they're not print quality, I don't need them to be, as I already own a Sony Cybershot camera. And anyone complaining about the camera's pictures being pointless because of poor quality is crazy. With the TH55, the pics you take are perfect for use with the Clie Organizer and for e-mails--which is what they were MEANT to be for--not for making 4x6 prints. Just like with camera phones, the photos have to have a small file size, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense when you try to send it to someone.

But the biggest selling point for this PDA is its multimedia capabilities. I can FINALLY watch the MPEG movies that I record with my Cybershot on my PDA! Awesome! And some MPEG files downloaded off the 'net work, too. The 320x480 screen allows me to check out photos without a lot of wasted screen space, so my pictures look even BIGGER than on my old 320x320 Palm screens. Oh, and did I mention you can play MP3s, too? Awesome!

I also picked up a Palm wireless keyboard, so now my TH55 is like a portable laptop! I can watch movies, look at photos, listen to MP3's, browse the internet and send e-mail with Wi-Fi (built-in), play some seriously cool games and type up Word and Excel files (with free downloaded version of Docs to Go 6.0)--and all with a folding keyboard and PDA that take up 60% less space than a laptop!

Oh, and the battery life blows away any other PDA I've ever used. I can check out pics, type up a Word document, play some solitaire and listen to MP3s and a couple of hours later, I STILL have over 75% of my battery power left over! (I do have my screen brightness at about 70%, though) For once, I can go on vacation and not have to lug around a battery charger!

I hardly ever think that an item deserves five stars, but this one actually does. My only complaint? The stupid flip cover--it can get in the way sometimes and is a MAJOR dust/fingerprint/scratch magnet. But, I bought plugs for the holes for when you remove the cover, so now my TH55 is one sleek, slim tablet. PERFECT!

I've had this PDA for almost a week now and it's been GREAT! It is thin (about 5/8"), has a sturdy flip-up cover and feels solid.

I previously had an old Palm m105 so I wanted to stay with the Palm OS. I had planned to buy a Tungsten E but the reviews for it talked about poor battery life, so I kept searching. I found that Sony was planning to release the PEG-TH55 in late February of 2004 and it was exactly what I was looking for in a PDA.

Out of the box, I easily transferred my m105 data to the PEG-TH55 with the Palm Desktop app (you'll need to switch to Palm Desktop for Clie if you are using a Palm-brand PDA, but that was seamless). The built-in Wi-Fi connected without a hitch to my home network and I hit some web pages to test it. The 320x480 display is very sharp and gives you a lot more real-estate to view applications. At the touch of a button, the Graffiti 2 or Decuma (both are options) input screen can come up and you still have the standard 320x320 display. There is a jog-dial and "back" button on the back which give another quick way to browse information.

Battery life? The box says 15 days but I haven't had it that long yet. I do know that I can fully charge the PEG-TH55, use it at work (not on a wireless LAN) for note-taking, scheduling, information look-up, etc., and the battery guage will still be at 95% full at the end of the day. That's a good sign that it will be able to keep up on a long business trip. The price is $399 MSRP but it does have lots of features that I think make it worth the cost -the larger display, 0.31 mega-pixel camera, built-in Wi-Fi, voice recording capability, etc.

Cons? Not many so far. I don't think that you're able to do a HotSync with the Wi-Fi connection...I'm not sure if that can be done by any Palm but I had thought it would be possible. The camera is good for quick pics, but not for anything significant. Sony PDA's also do not have slots for things like SD/MMC, but use the Memory Stick instead...a minor problem if you already have those for your current PDA.

I have been a long time Palm User, I can't even recall how many I've had. My latest was the M500 which I liked considerably because it was B&W and its battery lasted a month with heavy use. When my first M500 expired I purchased another, primarily because of the light weight and long battery life.

I was very reluctant to try a color PDA, as I feared the frequent need to recharge. The ultimate failure of my 2nd M500 forced me to reconsider, especially in view of the fact that many new apps don't seem to run on Palm OS 4.x.

When I read that the Clié TH55 battery can last 15 days, I gave it a try. I have not been a bit disappointed, the TH55 can indeed go 15 days between charges. (Unless you are a mole who plays Acid Solitaire 23hrs out of 24.)

In writing a review of this product I'm somewhat hampered by the fact that I don't know which of the many useful software features are inherent to Palm OS 5.2 or are unique to the Sony authored software.

I can only say that many of the software capabilities are extremely handy, such as the interconnections between the datebook, freenotes, addresses etc. There are many ways to do everything on this PDA, such as enter text, configure the address book, use freenotes. Most everyone should be able to customize the use of the apps to their taste and needs.

The color screen is of good size and performance, not the best but close, in my opinion. Despite the 123mhz rating, apps don't seem to run slowly, though some may load a tad slowly.

The TH55 fits neatly in my shirt pocket and the plastic screen protector, that almost every review berates, actually serves its main purpose nicely, it protects the screen. I use a tissue or a clean piece of cloth to remove dust and fingerprints if necessary, but believe me that's not the big deal that many seem to make of it. So what if it's hard to see through, it protects the screen from other items in my pocket or on a table, and that is what I need.

My M500s were smaller and lighter than the TH55 but by the time I put them in an adequately protective case, they became bulkier and heavier, to the point that it was a squeeze to get them in some shirt pockets.

In my opinion something that makes the TH55 or any Sony better than any of the many Palms I've had or tried, is the way the Sonys hook up to recharge. I don't care if the TH55 is shipped without a cradle, when I plug it in to charge, it charges. You can purchase a cradle if you want, and maybe I will. The fact is that all the more recent Palms have a very unreliable way of hooking up to power.

To digress; I have had to adjust my Palms perfectly in their cradles and put a weighted object on top, then turn on the unit to see if the lightning bolt is there. Often the power light illuminates but the unit is not charging. Frequently it would take many adjustments to seemingly get it right, only to find that instead of charging overnight the unit is discharged. My Fiancés' Zire 71 is worse, there isn't even a light to make sure you're getting contact.

I love the way my new Sony has a positive locking feel when the charging adapter is inserted, and I know a little jostle can't break the connection.

OK, so the camera is a lousy "Camera" but if you use it as another reviewer mentioned, to record a price tag, a spec sheet, or to give someone an idea of how something looks, it can be invaluable in saving lots of writing and talking. There are PDAs with better cameras, they are still poor cameras. I don't recommend chosing a PDA based on the quality of it's camera, at least not today.

It would be nice to have Bluetooth, but I've had to make worse compromises in the past. The only thing that upsets me about it, is the arbitrary way it was done. Seems that Sony's "Suits" know that many Americans will go right out and buy the next iteration of the TH55, ditching this one, because it will then incorporate Bluetooth. I guess Europeans are more frugal about things like that.

The best thing Xerox ever did for Palm was to cause them to develop Graffiti 2. G-2 is much improved over G-1 and very easy to learn. For example, I found it very annoying and often confusing to perform an upstroke before writing a capital letter, and two upstrokes for caps lock was often too much for my multiple dead pixeled brain.

Writing caps on the dividing line is just too easy. And now X's and K's write like they look and won't be easily confused. It only took me a few attempts to completely learn Graffiti 2, most of you can probably catch on even faster.

My only real disappointment with the TH55 is the Stylus. Come on Sony you can do better! I use a Ballpoint Pen/Stylus combo which I keep in my shirt pocket. The Palm Styli were perfectly adequate. So score one for Palm, they still lose overall though, IMHO.

To summarize: why should one buy the Sony Clié TH55?

-Compact size with only a small compromize in power

-Much better than average color screen performance and size

-Excellent battery charge life

-Palm OS 5.2 and the excellent Sony apps

I reviewed virtually every PDA made and none are perfect, one has to decide which features are important to you and which aren't. As a much more eloquent reviewer stated, "Try before you buy." I couldn't agree more.

I have my TH55 about two months now and have had pdas for many years, though this is my first Sony and my first color pda.

The selling point for me was the reasonable price for wifi web capability for when I'm on the road. The wifi does indeed work, I have found it useful to have the web around NYC for checking and answering e-mail (I recommend the accessory keyboard), looking up quick info on the web while on the go. Here there are numerous hotspots, and even often on the road, where info at my fingertips is priceless. And free hotspots abound.

Software, in general, is one of my three gripes. Here are my software issues:

-Sony only bundles a light version of Documents to Go, the full version of which is invaluable to people (like me) who use MS Word and Excel files on the road. I had to pay for the full version. Sony shouldn't be so cheap.

-Address book software bundled with the TH55 is nice in that you can attach photos or link notes and files with a person's contact info, but useless because the number of fields is too limited (this is also true with Palm brand address book software). Many of us need BOTH home address and business address fields for our contact people. So I had to buy third-party software once again, luckily which syncs nicely with Outlook's many fields for addresses and phone numbers.

-My advice about games: there are many available, work well and look nice, but I find a pda a poor gaming device because the battery life will be seriously shortened if you use it for extended activity without being plugged in. Get a gameboy for a portable gaming device and save your battery.

Speaking of photo capability, it was my belief that many of the features of the TH55, including the camera, were frivolous and unneccessary, but I was wrong. Having a camera with you at all times is VERY useful, as I was looking for some new furniture and was able to take snapshots of the pieces (and the tags, which displayed the dimensions and prices) to send to my interior decorator sister for her opinion. I also carry family pictures downloaded from my digital camera as one would carry family photos in a wallet. It is true, it is no substitute for a real camera with a flash and high resolution, but that is not the point. Often I have been grateful for the TH55's camera, and the resolution is not a handicap. VERY useful.

Also useful is the ability to play MP3s. I work out at the gym in the mornings and carry my trainer's workout plans in Word files on my palm. Now, I also carry music to get me through my workouts, and the pda, unlike my CD player, never skips. A 128 X 2 memory stick carries more than ample music for weeks of workouts, and a small pair of ear buds (I find the speaker inadequate) fit into the sports case I got at a local running shop. To my surprise, playing the music in background mode lets me turn off the power and the music still plays. This uses minimal power since it is the screen which saps the battery. Once again, VERY useful.

Second gripe: ergonomics. Of the three slide switches on the left, the power switch, located in the middle, is the hardest to activate, which means I have taken countless pictures of my hand or switched on the voice recorder instead of turning the power on or off. The voice recorder has still not been of use to me; perhaps get rid of it? Sony needs to update the power switch with a better idea.

Third and biggest gripe: I am annoyed at how slowly Sony provides accessory items for this new unit. I am waiting for a screen protector for over a month (they are backordered) and no store has them -and no delivery date expected any time soon. Screen protectors are invaluable, since they protect the touch screen you write on, which can scratch and wear without one. And Sony hasn't provided cases that are just right for the TH55, either.

These gripes cost the TH55 one star in my rating. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it for the reasons mentioned above and also, as other have said, it is extremely compact, light, has a wonderful display, good battery life (and a removable, not sealed, battery) and the new features add greatly to a pda's functionality. Especially web access, in my case. Look for better web browser software from third party vendors.

Green Zebra Strips Snap on Hard Protective Cover Case for HTC Inspire 4G + Microfiber Pouch Bag

Green Zebra Strips Snap on Hard Protective Cover Case for HTC Inspire 4G + Microfiber Pouch BagI ordered this case for my new HTC Inspire because I knew I would eventually end up dropping it at some point, especially when having to run after a baby all the time. When I got it in the mail it seemed really cheap and definately not the color it shows in the picture! I was expecting a bright somewhat lime green but it's actually a dark green. Once I put the case on it was really hard to get off which is good in a way because when I've dropped my phone it has never popped off. I don't even have a scratch on my case and I've probably dropped it 5-6 times not really far off the ground but enough to break my phone if I didn't have a case and it would've scratched my phone all up. So if you want a case that won't pop off incase you drop it this one is perfect especially if you love zebra print as much as I do!!!
