Taylor 1479 Commercial Wireless Remote Digital Food Thermometer

Taylor 1479 Commercial Wireless Remote Digital Food ThermometerI have read the "help" offered by the Taylor engineer. I think he is just explaining away the fact that Taylor did not design this appropriately for the environment it is going to be regularly used in. I am an engineer by training and have used these types of temp measurement devices before many times they are popular because they are accurate and reliable. If packaging is not designed correctly, anything will fail. (perfect example computer manufacturers design keyboards to have a drink spilled on them; is this logical: no; does it keep the keyboard safe in its likely use environment: yes)

My problem is that the crimp that holds the wires into the probe did not hold well so the plastic protective sheath pulled out and, no, I did not pull the probe out by the cord. Now the little wires that actually combine to determine the temperature rub on the probe opening and cause an error (especially if even slightly moist). Bottom line: the cord should have been sheathed in braided metal like every other probe out there.

There may be good news: as I was writing the review sitting on hold with customer servcie, someone finally answered my call. They will send another probe out for free...in a month and a half because they are backorded. I'm sure the Taylor engineer will chalk the demand for replacement probes up to user error. Good luck to those who purchased.

Just finished reading my copy of Cooks' Illustrated and I see they've listed this wireless as their new #1 thermometer, knocking off the previous title holder. I love this piece and am glad to see the experts think so too. It's compact and works well. I love the backlight and that the remote beeps, vibrates and flashes a light for the various pre-alerts I've set for cooking. I use it more indoors than for BBQ's, but it's clearly a great piece and by a company who knows thermometers. I have other Taylor items too.

I purchased this item at another retailer (wish I would have gotten it here!) and have used it twice already. The price was great! I had a corded one before that didn't have the remote, but wanted to try this. I used it on the grill to cook some chicken and had no problem with the cord at all. It was great because I didn't have to constantly run to the grill to check the temp -I did once but then realized I didn't have to and waited for the beeps (and it was cold out). The chicken breast turned out well. I used it in the oven this weekend for a roast, and again, it was great. The meat was done really well and cooked just the way we like it. I like that I don't have to spend all my time in the kitchen checking and checking the temperature. I truly didn't worry about the roast until I got the beeps. Can't wait to try it again for the holidays

Bought this item in Crate and Barrel. Very happy with the features. But, I used it 6 times and it's already broken! Figured it just needed batteries when it stopped working, but no, the display panel is defective. What a let down.

I purchased this Taylor wireless remote digital food thermometer for my husband. The first time we used it the sheath around the wiring appeared to be defective, so I returned it. We thought it was just defective because the instruction do state it can be used on the grill. Amazon sent another one right out. We did not get around to using the second one until this past weekend...well the same thing happened to it. I would not recommend it for the grill. I will again return it, but because the return period has expired looks like we have just lost our $$.

LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor

LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor
  • USB port and cable for computer connection
  • No cable hookup or batteries required
  • Includes 6 user-defined function keys
  • Lightweight design includes protective hood
  • Compatible with Handspring Visor handheld organizer (not compatible with Handspring Visor Prism)

I'm a much bigger fan of the Targus folding keyboard. For starters it folds into the size of a handspring. Second of all the Landware version's keys are incredibly small. The one feature benefit of landware is that it's a rigid design so it can be used on your lap while the Targus version is very flexible and needs to be placed on a flat surface to type.

Buy LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Now

I looked at both keyboards and wasn't as impressed with the Stowaway as much as the Gotype. The Gotype is a better value ($69 vs $99) since it comes with word processing software and a thesaurus, plus fuctions as a second cradle (even includes the USB cable). What suprised me the most was that I can type faster on the Gotype than I can on my PC, even though I have pretty big hands. The other plus is that it is stable and slightly inclined, where the Stowaway sits flat and tends to curl on the ends which causes it to bounce when you really get going. I have also seen/heard of the key caps popping off of the Stowaway, but I am told that in later shipments this was corrected. The only drawback to the Gotype vs. the Stowaway is storage compactness; the Gotype is a bit harder to carry around, though Landware does makes a case that allows you to carry both the Visor and the Gotype together. If you use your Visor the way I do, which is for everything that I can think of, especially extensive note taking, the Gotype is a must. Be prepared to attract some attention the first time you use it in public.

Read Best Reviews of LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Here

I purchased 2 of these when I pre-ordered and thought it would be worth keeping both to share in the office. I was wrong. While the GoType for the Visor is faster to use than the stylus for straight entry, it was difficult to master the keyboard buttons that correspond to the PDA. It is also a little large to carry in a pocket, although a woman may get away with carrying it in her purse/backpack. At that point it loses the immediate practicality in my experience.

I also bought the Targus folding keyboard for a few dollars more when it was introduced, and that would be my Handspring-down choice. The Targus folds neatly into a suit-pocket appropriate size and has a roomy feel when extended for typing. I would say that the Targus is twice the keyboard for 10% more in price. Borrow a GoType to try and then buy a Targus to keep and use. You will definitely prefer the Targus.

Want LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Discount?

I wish Landware had made this keyboard just a bit larger. Despite my compact hands, the keyboard size is in that region where it's OK, but not great. I would rather sacrifice compact portability for greater ease of use. And in any event, this is an item that will be carried in a briefcase and not a pocket. I also would have liked a Home and End key included on the board.

I like the solid feel of the keyboard and its stability. This keyboard can be used on the lap. The key action feels good.

The included software has both a mini-word processor and a Thesaurus. One can import and export documents to and from the word processor. All my existing applications work with the keyboard. The included software makes this board very desirable.

There is no delay between the click of a key and the appearance of the character on the Palm screen. This is the primary reason why I bought the Go keyboard rather than Palm's folding keyboard, which reviewers say has a slight delay. That sort of thing drives me bonkers.

I used to have a Palm Vx with a GoType Pro that proved to be more than excellent for light word processing needs. It almost seems that Landware *improved* the action and performance of the keyboard for the Visor model. Yes, it is small, but it is a *much* more solid product that the Targus/Palm keyboard. I have yet to see one of these actually open, extend, and close properly. I found the keys to be excellent for touch-type and not all that difficult to work with. Add to that the fact that it doubles as a HotSync cradle , that it's $30 cheaper, and you quickly see that it's a better value. It would be interesting to see Landware make a PalmOS unit.

IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201

IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201
  • Device Type - Switch
  • Manufacturer Warranty - 3 years
  • Enclosure Color - Black
  • - USB devices Hot pluggable.

I got this thing to share a keyboard and mouse (which are plugged into a USB hub) with 2 computers. I was tired of having 2 keyboards and 2 mice on my desk!

I am using a Dell LCD monitor that has a built in USB ports and supports VGA and DVI simultaneously via a built in switch.

I can now plug in all my USB peripherals (external hard drive, keyboard and mouse) into my monitor hub and at the touch of a switch can toggle between the 2 towers.

It simply works, it takes a few seconds to kick in, but it works every time. No software installation necessary.

Note: The package comes with 1 USB cable only so if you are looking to use it the way I did you would need 2 additional USB cables.

Buy IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201 Now

I bought this to share a keyboard and mouse between 2 computers (a Mac and a Dell)that each have their own monitors, so I didn't need a full KVM switch. After a quick 3 minute installation, this does the trick. Bus powered, so no external power supply and there is no need to install any software for it.

I use this to use one wireless keyboard and mouse with two computers. It works fine. The only thing I don't like is that it takes several seconds for the switch to work. That's not helpful if I am doing instant messenging on one computer in which I need to switch back and forth quickly. The install CD had an error message which showed up on both computers. Fortunately I could download the program from their web site.

Want IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201 Discount?

BACKGROUND:

I, that is to say we, share an HP Printer/Copier/Scanner, and it works just fine. Our home office set-up on the other-hand does not work so well. As it turns out it's a Windows XP problem. You see, I set-up the computers on a network, and that works fine. With one caveat, you cannot share a scanner on XP. You can share everything else, but not a scanner.

And boy do I do a lot of scanning. So, through the network we can share the printer, but if I want to scan, I have to unplug it from the one computer, and plug it into my computer. This (as you can probably see) wasn't going to work. So, what to do? Get a USB "Resource Sharing" device.

I had purchased 2 other USB "Resource Sharing" devices, but I couldn't get either of them to work. What? A USB device that won't work? I've never heard of such a thing. And it happened twice! I was stumped. So, we went back to plugging and unplugging. Sigh...

Months later, I went hunting (again), but this time here on Amazon. I looked over all of the USB "Resource Sharing" devices, and I read all of the reviews, and then I (with trepidation, thinking back on my last 2 failed USB devices) made my purchase.

THE PURCHASE:

As it turns out, this device only comes with one cable, so I had to order another cable. Not a big deal, I needed something like a 16' cable anyway. Fortunately, a couple of the reviewers mentioned the one cable thing. I also thought it was odd that these devices cannot be sent to P.O. Boxes, but, again, no big deal.

THE PRODUCT:

With fear in my eye, I opened the package to the IOGEAR USB 2.0 Peripheral Sharing Switch, and followed the instructions. They went as follows:

1 Connect it to computer 1

2 Connect it to computer 2

3 Connect it to the "printer/scanner" (in my situation)

That was it! Our computers went ding-donk, letting us know that a USB had connected, and little bubbles came up saying that new hardware had been detected and was ready, and the little switch itself went beep a couple of times saying that is was ready.

Guess what happened? It worked! I pushed the button on the switch, and the one computer can print & scan, I push the button again, and my computer can print & scan. I was so thrilled about something that didn't require any configuring, or reboots or any bother. Phew!

Something else that I like about how IOGEAR set this product up. It came with software, but even they say you don't need it. The only thing the software does is put a switch button on your computer desktop (instead of manually pushing the button on the device itself).

Thank-you IOGEAR for making a simple device that is simple to install, and simply works.

I installed this product and now both of my computers share the same printer. Installation was quick and easy, even with my two computers running different versions of Windows.

Soooo.. If I "power on" only Computer 1, the switch automatically connects the printer to THAT computer. Of course, if I only "power on" computer 2, the switch will connect to THAT one. Could it be more simple?? By installing the supplied software [CD], I can activate switching from computer 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 simply by tapping the NUM LOCK button twice on the keyboard of the computer that I want to be switched to. I don't even have to stretch my tired body to press the button on the unit!! I repeat could it be more simple?

The unit works flawlessly.

AND.. I paid half the price of the local retail stores!

This one does. I have a Belkin which can Blue Screen my machine. This is so well known that Microsoft seems to know about this. You find this out after the Blue Screen. MSoft directs you to a site for a fix. The site is no longer up. Not MSoft's fault.

The Aten has worked where others do not. Particularly with Crestron equipment.

Gomadic Compact Retractable USB Charge and Data Sync cable for the Samsung SCH-A950 -Two critical fu

Gomadic Compact Retractable USB Charge and Data Sync cable for the Samsung SCH-A950 -Two critical functions, one unique cable. Built with the upgradeable TipExchange SystemThe cable itself is a great idea and a handy tool. The only problem I have is that it can't be used to download image or video files from the phone I was using it with (Samsung SCH-A950). I also had to spend quite a bit of time figuring out which driver to use, installing BitPim, and generally fiddling around to get my laptop to find the phone. These were issues with my phone, not the cable, but I'd recommend doing some research with your model before buying this product, especially if you have an older phone. The support on Gomadic's site is helpful, though, for at least pointing you in the right direction to resolve problems you might encounter.

I might buy a new tip to use this with my new phone, but I'm definitely going to do some research first to see if it will be compatible and easy to use.

The small gadget allows for easy charging and transfer of information from laptop to computer. Great when an outlet is not around and your laptop is fully charged.

Belkin Verve Tab Faux Leather Folio for Nook (Sunset Pink)

Belkin Verve Tab Faux Leather Folio for Nook
  • Stylish presentation
  • Screen protection
  • Secure magnetic tab closure

I bought this at Target. At first I really liked the case. It securely holds my Nook Tablet and has a slim fit. However, it's already starting to fall apart and I've only had it for about a week.

Pros:

Tight fitting

Fully protects Nook around all edges

Magnetic clasp is great can be reversed when the flap is folded back to keep it held in place

Looks nice

Cons:

The clasp is fraying on the edges

The soft material on the inside edge is wearing away. I fold the cover back and the soft material on the edge is now worn away.

The hole for the headphones is too close to the back of the cover. You cannot fit a normal headphone plug without the potential of bending the Nook port. A slim plug like those used with the iPhone should fit though.

I'll be returning it and going with something else.

rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Black) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for ViewSonic

rooCASE Executive Portfolio Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for ViewSonic gTablet 10.1-Inch Android Tablet Wi-FiI love this case. Perfect fit. Looks all professional. Only problem I have with this case was after paying $15 for it on Monday the following Monday it dropped to $5. My luck. Worth every cent and then some.

The cover is well made of real leather. The zippers and other fittings are quality too. The removable feature for the g-tablet and the prop-up stand are very cool though the latter is less useful than I thought it would be. It is a little thick and since the g-pad is already a little on the thick side, the overall effect is that it feels like you are carrying an old-style planner. Overall I would buy it again due to its fit and quality.

This cover perfectly fit the gTablet, and looks professional as well. I like the stand feature to prop up the tablet for viewing. The product was delivered in two days, even with standard (USPS) shipping. Since it is so new, it is a little stiff, so the cover does not lay flat when it is zipped open. I think this will be fine after some use. Buy one!

Tried the cable on several devices and ports with no connectivity. Tried another cable from another company and it worked great. You buy a cable for only one purpose. Is it too much to ask to have someone test every cable before they attempt to sell? Shame on you Cables to Go and you too Amazon (for not screening your vendors better).

I bought this cable after trying a bargian version on Amazon 2 times. The cheap cables did not work. This one is perfect. It allows me to finally use my PC monitor's 2nd input for my MAC laptop as a alternate monitor. I use the laptop screen for things like email, while I use the larger monitor for creating and editing documents and presentations. Its really handy to have the extra work space, and it even works well with Spaces. I agree with the other reviewer about the shipping not being the fault of the cable. I think I just today discovered that its possibly to review products and merchants seperately. Ding the merchant for the poor service if thats appropriate.

Pretec 56k Compact Flash Modem for PDA/ Pocket PC & portable devices w/ CF slot

Pretec 56k Compact Flash Modem for PDA/ Pocket PC & portable devices w/ CF slot
  • Data Modem: TE speed: up to 115200; Fax Modem: Send and receive up to 14.4kbps
  • the world's first smallest 56Kbps modem card for Pocket PC
  • Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, PocketPC 2002, 2003
  • Software Platform: Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, PocketPC 2002, 2003
  • Connect to a standard (analog) phone line and you're ready to go

When you're buying a modem for a pocket computer, you're probably not interested in bells and whistles; you want something that's as small and as reliable as possible, that will let you connect to the Internet and check your email or surf the Web.

The Pretec modem fits that need perfectly. There's no flashing LEDs, no driver discs; the box contains nothing but the tiny modem, a phone cord and a brief instruction manual. (There's not even an AOL disc. They must be slipping.)

I was able to get connected in less than ten minutes, without touching the instruction manual. Just slip the modem into the slot, plug in the phone cord, set up a few basic connection settings, and you're off and running. If your ISP supports WIndows dialup networking, it will very probably support this.

The manual is the weak spot; the installation settings it describes on page 7 and 8 may well not match up with those needed. Since the dialogs used to configure the Pocket PC are quite similar to the dialogs used to set up Windows dial-up networking, you'll want to have your ISP's setup instructions available.

In conclusion, this product is certainly more than worthwhile; it gives you full-featured dialup capabilities in only a few cubic inches of space.

One final caveat: This product is also known as the "Pocket PC Email Expansion Pack". If you've just purchased a Pocket PC, you may find that there's a special offer included for this expansion pack, and you'll want to check out that offer's pricing and terms before deciding where to buy.

Initially I had some problem setting up ISP configuration on my Casio E-115 with Pretec CompactModem. I called up Pretec, 510-440-0535 as listed in the "Company" on their Website, and asked for tech support. I found that there is actually a direct tech support line at 510-580-8339. The guy that helped me was pretty knowledgeable and walked me through the steps of setting up ISP for my email account. They put a little "ISP Configuration guide" on their Web, under "Tech support" and "CompactModem" area. It's pretty comprehensive. The modem card is working pretty well.

I have been waiting for Pocket PC for a loooooonnng time and it finally arrived. I got a Casio E-115 and it's beautiful. I bought a Pretec modem at a great price and it worked just fine on my Casio E-115. It took me about 15 min to get all my ISP settings done. The instruction is not bad and I set up my AT&T worldnet account just fine. Got my emails in the Inbox and I can browse around on the Internet. The letters are really tiny though. Wish there is a Zoom-in utility that I can magnify the screen display while browsing the net. I use the modem card to check emails mostly. Definitely will recommend to my friends.

I bought this modem about 3 weeks ago for my HP 548 Jornada Pocket PC and it works great...flawless. I know there are other reviews mentioning tricky connections and such; however, I have encountered absolutely zero problems. I would recommend this product to anyone, at least anyone with an HP 540 series (as that is what I have tested it on).

This Aidata Tablet Stand is the best. It has it all when your looking for different angles and a comfortable grip. Hangs on walls and car seats too. We have two. I do something with mines that they don't describe in its capabilities, I position it just right in my cars console where it locks right into position without budging. (But I can't recommend that it will fit in all cars consoles the same way, it does in my Charger).

(3Pack) Palm Treo 650 700 700w 700p 700wx Metal Stylus+Ball Point Pen

(3Pack) Palm Treo 650 700 700w 700p 700wx Metal Stylus+Ball Point Pen
  • 3 Pack Stylus+Ball Point writing pens for Treo 650 700 PDA
  • Brand new high quality stylus replacement pen
  • Fits into your handheld's built-in stylus holder
  • Custom designed for Treo 650 700 PDA
  • Also functions as an ink pen

The "ink pen" stylus I lost was like the one pictured where removing to top piece reveals the pen. What I got was a PALM branded "ink pen" stylus where the "pointer tip" unscrews to reveal the pen. This is a much better design in my opinion! Would have given 5 stars if the seller's picture was correct. The black top is a tad darker than the 700wx housing, but not by much. Maybe it is "designed" to be a tad darker to match the black stub antenna? I'm totally OK with that. It fits in the device better than the other style that I lost (which about need a "tool" to withdraw it). I posted a picture of what I received. 5 Stars for shipping as I got it 2 days sooner than estimated!

These work great as a stylus...and it doesn't hurt that there is a pen inside.

The pen is easy enough to open and the stylus stays in well.

The only problem is that the pen may run out of ink quickly from extended use...and you have to get the ink flowing after extended periods of non-use.

A brief history. I bought the original stylus with pen from a bricks & mortar a few years ago. I gave one away to a friend. And then, last week, lost the second one in the abyss, known as my car, while killing time at the drive through. Please note, I was NOT using my treo while actively driving.

I ordered the three styli on Monday Pacific time. It arrived Thursday. Pretty good. However, when I went to find the pen part, I only found the part you use for a hard reset. When I called the vendor and told them my dilemma, the girl on the other end assured me they always inspect their products, and that the stylus did have a ball point pen. It was just on the other end, and difficult to get off at first.

After pulling and twisting it apart with a wrench and pair of pliers, I found she was right.

The product is basically(literally) a Chinese nock off, and the pen cap didn't go back on completely. I don't blame the vendor, however. I do blame Palm for not supplying proper accessories for their products. In short, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for my lost stylus.

Black Protective Active Workout Armband Carrying Case Cover with Adjustable Velcro Strap for T-Mobil

Black Protective Active Workout Armband Carrying Case Cover with Adjustable Velcro Strap for T-Mobile MyTouch 4G, HTC HD 7, HTC HD 2, Sprint HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Focus i917, Samsung Vibrant T959, Samsung Fascinate SCH-i500, and AT&T Samsung Surround + SumacLife TM Wisdom Courage Wristband
  • Made from a high grade neoprene to protect your phone from bumps, dents, and scratches
  • Clear window lets you see your phone's screen so you can see who's calling you or check the time
  • Velcro Adjustable strap allows you to adjust the armband for a more comfortable fit
  • Neoprene Material used to make this armband is very breathable and avoids moisture build up
  • SumacLife TM Wisdom Courage Wristband

I'm not sure why this is from a place called 'Athlete's choice' I can't see how. It's comfortable enough and seems fairly rugged (for $11) but it has one major flaw. I wore it to go running, and in Texas heat I sweat, like it or not! The moisture just collects under the plastic screen, you can see it quite clearly. Most phones these days have a water or moisture strip within and if you ever call your service provider with a hardware fault, the first thing they do is check the moisture strip for signs of water contamination. I promise you this wont pass. If you like wearing your phone on your arm, and have no intention of sweating, this might a good choice. Otherwise -avoid it.

SmackTom(TM) 3 Pack Anti-Glare Screen Protectors for Apple Macbook Pro 15 Inches Retina Display

SmackTom(TM) 3 Pack Anti-Glare Screen Protectors for Apple Macbook Pro 15 Inches Retina Display
  • New Anti-Glare Screen Protector for Macbook Pro 15" retina display
  • Non-adhesive backing, will not leave sticky residue
  • Protect your screen against dust and random scratches
  • Only For MacBook Pro 15 Inch Retina Display. Not Compatible with MacBook Pro 15 inch
  • Includes SmackTom Logo Silly Band

The retina display is an amazing bit of technology, and I wanted to protect it; primarily from scratches, but also from repeated wipes to clear fingerprints and dust. Without an actual glass cover, it seems more vulnerable to wear and damage, and I don't want to be paying for a screen replacement any time soon. So this adhesive-free, easily removable cover seemed like a good idea, even though the bare screen is quite good at muting glare and reflections. However, the matte finish, while improving glare even further, does tend to dull all that sharpness Retina Pro buyers paid for. And that kind of defeats the purpose. But I'm getting used to the new look, and I do feel the screen is better protected. My main complaint with this product is application. It comes with three screen protectors, and that's a good thing, because the first one I applied looked terrible. No adhesives, true, but once the cover is peeled off the back of the film, it is definitely tacky, and it statically attracts every mote of dust in the air around it, so that even if you have your macbook screen perfectly clean before installation, you will still get dust particles clinging to the film as you try to position it (which is no small feat in itself once contact is made, the film grabs the screen and begins to seal itself on). Any oil on your fingers leaves visible prints on the back of the film as well corners are especially prone to this. So I finally got the thing on and had multiple bubbles to press out. Do I really want to be pressing on that retina screen I'm trying to protect? Worse, if you do get some grit-like particle stuck to the tacky film back prior to application, and it forms a bubble, you may be pressing it into the screen trying to clear out air not good. My second try was better, but unless you are fast and 100% accurate in your placement, and touch only the edges of the film, and do all this in an industrial-quality clean room, you will most likely have bubbles. I have about 7 small ones, and I will try to live with them (unless they really annoy me, at which point I will try a third time or give up on the idea completely). So I'm not saying this is a bad product, but you will need to be extremely careful to use it and have it look good. Instructions on how to apply the film and troubleshooting tips would have been appreciated.

It is exactly what you think it will be a set of three Anti-glare screen protectors for the macbook with retina display.

I found it easy to install though I do have practice doing this on other devices and i suggest the most other people look on youtube for tutorials if it is there first time with this sort of thing. A good hint is to peal the sticker on the back off as you are applying the protector.

As for the quality of the product, they are as good as any other anti-glare screen protector that i have ever owned or seen. It does not cause color shift or chromatic aberration. They are also are almost the exact size of the screen and i think they are cut well, Especially at this price

When i first made my order i was worried that it would cause the screen to look less sharp. The Anti glare does cause the image to look a little more defused but it is still sharp, and this is kind of inherent to the hole idea of being anti glare

Overall a very good product

I bought the 3 pack anti-glare screen protectors for my 15 inch macbook pro with retina display thinking that they would cover the entire screen, even the black border where the camera is, and all around, but it only covers the screen and not the edges around it. I mean it's ok if you don't mind not having the entire black frame cover, but personally, I did not like it. Other than that, it is a good price for a pack of 3 screen protectors.

The screen sticks out on the top. If I move it down, it covers the camera on top middle. Other than that it is fine.
