Taylor 1479 Commercial Wireless Remote Digital Food Thermometer

I have read the "help" offered by the Taylor engineer. I think he is just explaining away the fact that Taylor did not design this appropriately for the environment it is going to be regularly used in. I am an engineer by training and have used these types of temp measurement devices before many times they are popular because they are accurate and reliable. If packaging is not designed correctly, anything will fail. (perfect example computer manufacturers design keyboards to have a drink spilled on them; is this logical: no; does it keep the keyboard safe in its likely use environment: yes)

My problem is that the crimp that holds the wires into the probe did not hold well so the plastic protective sheath pulled out and, no, I did not pull the probe out by the cord. Now the little wires that actually combine to determine the temperature rub on the probe opening and cause an error (especially if even slightly moist). Bottom line: the cord should have been sheathed in braided metal like every other probe out there.

There may be good news: as I was writing the review sitting on hold with customer servcie, someone finally answered my call. They will send another probe out for free...in a month and a half because they are backorded. I'm sure the Taylor engineer will chalk the demand for replacement probes up to user error. Good luck to those who purchased.

Just finished reading my copy of Cooks' Illustrated and I see they've listed this wireless as their new #1 thermometer, knocking off the previous title holder. I love this piece and am glad to see the experts think so too. It's compact and works well. I love the backlight and that the remote beeps, vibrates and flashes a light for the various pre-alerts I've set for cooking. I use it more indoors than for BBQ's, but it's clearly a great piece and by a company who knows thermometers. I have other Taylor items too.

I purchased this item at another retailer (wish I would have gotten it here!) and have used it twice already. The price was great! I had a corded one before that didn't have the remote, but wanted to try this. I used it on the grill to cook some chicken and had no problem with the cord at all. It was great because I didn't have to constantly run to the grill to check the temp -I did once but then realized I didn't have to and waited for the beeps (and it was cold out). The chicken breast turned out well. I used it in the oven this weekend for a roast, and again, it was great. The meat was done really well and cooked just the way we like it. I like that I don't have to spend all my time in the kitchen checking and checking the temperature. I truly didn't worry about the roast until I got the beeps. Can't wait to try it again for the holidays

Bought this item in Crate and Barrel. Very happy with the features. But, I used it 6 times and it's already broken! Figured it just needed batteries when it stopped working, but no, the display panel is defective. What a let down.

I have purchased two of these. Returned the first because it did not maintain connections with devices, such as USB3 external drives and an external USB2 wireless adapter. Same problems with the replacement hub. As a result, I've reverted to my old Belkin 4-port USB2 hub, which works just fine.

I am pretty sure the hub that I received is used. The gloss finish isn't as shiny as it supposed to be and it has scrape marking at its top and bottom.

Using this hub to connect 2 UBS 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 external HDD. The extra USB connects to another 4-port USB 2.0 hub. Even thought the external HDD are self-powered, the hub still needs the optional adaptor powering it. I am not sure at which scenario the hub does not need the optional adaptor. I may test it out and update this review once I found the scenario.

I was able to run Time Machine backup on one external HDD while performing 35GB file copying from my MBP to the another external HDD without slowness. It was charing my phone at the same time.

The hub is being hidden at the back of my LCD to hide the clutter. I was hoping some company would design a hub with all connection facing one side to enable better cable management. Currently the power and input UBS is aiming inward; there isn't much concern for the USB cable as it will head to the front to my MBP, but the power cable needs to make a 180 degree bend backward to where my power strip is.

The hub is smaller then I thought; it is smaller then an iPhone 4. It is light too... Too light to prevent itself from being pulled down by the weight of USB cables connected to it. I would recommend the use of blue tack to hold it down.

If you aren't too concern of the item being used, this is a great USB 3.0 hub.

Corel WordPerfect Office X6 Standard

I have been a WP user since the DOS days, and have regularly upgraded the product as new versions come along. Until the last version (WPX5) and MS Office 2010, I would never consider looking at MS Office as an alternative. Unfortunately, WP has compatibility issues that it struggles with, and MS Office 2010 finally has put out a product that a professional can work with, so the line between the two products is getting blurry.

WP still excels at professional formatting and ease of operation. MS office gets tangled up in its own fancy formatting, and cannot easily move text from one document to another (or from one format to another) without failing on formatting. You cannot beat WordPerfect's "Reveal Codes" as a way to clean up formatting clutter!!

WP X6 is trying to adopt MS Office 2010 functionality and not succeeding While I like multiple windows (rather than working with multiple documents within one frame), WPX6 loses its "recently opened" file list if you don't open every file from within X6 completely missing the opportunities afforded by Windows 7 to search and access files from within WIN7.

MS PowerPoint is the leader in the slide show market. With the exception of the inability to automatically create random transitions (a weird shortfall, IMHO), the ability to create, organize, flow, embed video and sound, set slide transition timing and export to a video format have turned PowerPoint into a very nice all-purpose media tool. By comparison, X6 Presentations is clunky and awkward.

The respective spreadsheets from X6 versus MS2010 are true to their roots both maintain their native codes and formatting. Because I "grew up" with Quattro Pro, I have never liked nor gotten used to Excel I can move much faster in QP simply due to familiarity.

Unfortunately for WP, I seriously considered NOT upgrading from X5 to X6. The only reason I decided to spend the money is in hopes of seeing some compatibility issues and file-handling awkwardness fixed. Sadly, that didn't happen in X6, so I cannot think of a reason to upgrade from X5 to X6, and I may never purchase another upgrade.

MS Office service lies in its extremely robust and user-friendly knowledge base and the well-rounded user forums. I have never had trouble figuring out how to do something in MS Office a simple online search generates multiple options.

Corel suffers in the service department they have a typical knowledge base that is not very user-friendly, and a very annoying call-in support line (assuming you don't have to pay for it). If you require hand-holding, X6 is not the product for you.

As a professional, I have used Open Office (no longer supported by Oracle or Sun Microsystems, but let loose in the wild as an open source platform), MS Office and WordPerfect Office. I use Word Perfect for most word-processing, PowerPoint for all slideshows, and use Excel and Quattro Pro somewhat interchangeably, depending on what I'm doing and what I might be starting with. For a new user, I recommend MS Office as the most "newby-friendly" software. For a professional or experienced user, I recommend X6 as the software that yields the most professional results with the least amount of time fussing with formatting.

So many operations can be done in WP in one or two keystrokes that take many more than that in Word. The full justification in WP is much better than Word, with truer justification so that there are no noticeable spaces between words. Very flexible program, not only for word processing, but legal documents, greeting cards, posters, resumes, etc. are much easier to do, either with built in templates or self formatting. One of the most valuable operations in WP is the ability to reveal codes to see exactly what has been done to your document and to fix things if necessary. Another is the ability to write simple little macros, quick words and quick correct to save keystrokes. very quick and easy convert to PDF and other formats. I do miss the compose feature from earlier versions, but still have high regard for the program which I have been using, in all its manifestations, for over 30 years.

WordPerfect Office X6 Standard is a good product at a fairly reasonable price. Easy to use and compatibility with MS Office is good, but formatting changes in conversion is still a problem. Some of the additional apps included are unnecessary, since you can download them free from the internet. I had a real problem with the VideoStudio Essentials X4 video editor the program did not install properly and after three attempts, I had to remove it completely since it caused my computer to crash each time it was opened. The templates provided are very basic and not very useful, but overall the word processor, spreadsheet, and presentations programs all work great. I would recommend this product for a home / small office environment it is a good value with reliable performance.

Sooo, id like to say Bravo on the super fast delivery, The quality on the case is very very nicely put together. The leather quality great, magnetic clasp is very secure. BUT I bought a clear case originally w my ipod for temporary protection while i searched for my dream case and i'll have to take it off to fit the ipod inside this case which i guess is the point. And I do have access to all the things i need to use it. but i had to stick the suade card that comes with it behind the ipod to make a snugish fit, so it wont slide out. I wish i could just slide it over the plastic case that compeletly covers it. I fly internationally from time to time, and I need to be able to power my entertainment devices on those 17-20-hour flights around the globe. Some aircraft have standard USA-style power outlets on some seats... others have "cigarette lighter" adaptors... but most (in my experience) have what's called an "EmPower" port.

My laptop has an "EmPower/Cigarette" charger... but most devices don't, it does get tedious having a full laptop on your tray table for the entire flight. I have a little portable media player... an Archos 5, with a 250GB hard drive in it, with my entire music/recorded-book library, quite a few books on PDF, and a number of DVD movie transfers. But, being a hard-drive-based device rather than a flash-memory-based device, it fairly sucks down the power, especially when the display is in full-time use. 3 hours of display-based use on a charge is about normal. (12 or so for music-only, though.)

Also, I'd sure like to be able to charge my cell phone on the flight... or charge my GPS, or so forth. And so I needed a way to power these devices on a plane.

My solution is one of these devices, with a 2-port USB power outlet plugged into it, and the appropriate USB cables. My cigarette-lighter USB device puts out plenty of power, but I needed a way of getting the power from the EmPower port to the device itself. This is a fine device for this purpose.

The main concern I have with this device is that it's pretty "bare-bones" in construction. There are no spring-loaded features... no retaining bosses... nothing. It's basically a 12-14V EmPower plug, wires going from that plug, and a conductive "pin" and "sheath" inside of the cigarette lighter adaptor portion. I'd been hoping for a better "sheath" (with embossed retaining grooves, and not simply "rolled" in place), and an actual spring-loaded "pin" for the adaptor pin.

The main concern I have is that I doubt that this device will hold up for hundreds or thousands of "insertion/removal" operations at the "cigarette lighter" end. Fortunately, I don't plan on removing/inserting the USB plug very often, so I should be OK. Your mileage may vary, however.

I have also ordered one of these from Magellan's... they're cheap, so I can afford to compare. I suspect that the Magellan one is slightly higher quality... I'll append this review if I find that to be the case.

Item worked as described. Only issue is connection at lighter end. Used an elastic to keep them together. Although doing this does prevent item separating if you forget to unplug it.

There are hardly any complaints about this product. It fits perfectly, it is anti-glare, and it helps keep as many obvious fingerprints from showing. The only con is it is a pain to get on, but once it's on, it works like a charm.

I ended up buying two of these to succeed in applying one screen protector. I will say this protector covers the entire screen perfectly leaving very minimal room on the edges (I do not consider the bar with the home button to be part of the screen as one review mentioned). It also does not appear to affect the appearance of the screen. I haven't tested the anti-glare capabilities, I really just wanted something to cover the screen, which it does. For what it does, it does it well. Five stars...until we talk about installation.

Installing this screen protector was a nightmare. Perhaps I am too much of a perfectionist, but the plastic piece they give you to squeeze out air bubbles is a piece of junk. The lint-free cloth that is meant to clean the screen leaves more lint than it removes (eventually it works). I would also suggest applying this in the bathroom with the shower running (apparently it removes dust from the room) because otherwise the adhesive side will catch anything and everything, leaving tiny bubbles anywhere. I will take some fault on the first application process because I was picky with little bubbles, but the second purchase was even worse.

The second screen protector I received came in a very cheap package and was missing the plastic piece to squeeze out bubbles (honestly think it fell out in transit). Luckily I ordered a different screen protector for my phone that came with a lovely rubber one (thank you Skinomi), which ended up being the only reason I succeeded in applying this protector. The protector itself had some sort of lint on it before I even went to apply it, but washing it does work (getting it to dry without collecting dust is the trick). The lint-free cloth was even worse the second time and literally did not stop putting lint on my screen (I luckily had my own that worked). Basically the second package set me up to fail, but Skinomi saved the day. All in all, it is a decent screen protector, but may God have mercy on your soul if you want zero bubbles on your screen with the tools they give you.

TLDR: Fits great, pain to install (easier with tools NOT from this company). You get what you pay for, but it's worth $2.50.

I just received my anti-glare screen protector in the mail about a half hour ago and was so anxious to put it on my nook color. I followed the directions carefully..it took me a couple tries to get rid of the air bubbles. I realize that you have to use the squeegee tool AS your laying down the screen protector. At first, I had laid down the screen protector, then tried to squeegee out the air bubbles--that didn't work so well. So use it as your laying it down slowly. Also, the picture is pretty accurate--the screen protector covers only the part of the screen that has the back light. This is why I give it four stars. It doesn't cover the black strip down bottom. So if you every inch of your screen covered, this isn't for you. I don't mind that it's not covering the bottom because that part isn't touch screen anyway. Over time, there might be dust and dirt build up or scratches and scrapes, but at least the touch screen part is protected from all of that. As for the appearance and quality--it is well worth the money. It looks like it's anti-glare to me (I tilted it from side to side and didn't see any reflections). I haven't tried it in the sun as yet because it's been raining here for a few days now; but I can't wait to sit out in the sun and try it! Overall, it's definitely worth it for the price. It's good quality, it's anti-glare and it protects the back-lit portion of the screen. I'm happy :)

I received the Sony Clie S300 as a gift. Along with the package came your normal sync cradle/battery charger (PEGA-UC500). What's practical about this cradle is that the battery charger is detachable from the back of the unit which you can take with you on long trips (assuming you don't need to synch so often). The ac adaptor's prongs are collapsible, making it easy to store. It has a USB connection to the computer, which is great, but the software I have is somehow a hack over the serial connection so speed is not impressive. Still, this particular cradle itself is fully functional in every aspects of it's tasks.

I bought my wife a Sony Clie PEG-S320 for Christmas. She soon came to be dependent on it, but did not 'sync' with the computer often enough. One day, she cracked the LCD, rendering most of the functions (including the menu) useless. We were looking at many hours of lost data.

Using the USB cradle, we were still able to sync, and then load all her data back into her new Clie. Without the cradle, we had no way to trigger the sync process. I would highly recommend this device to anyone with a 300 series Clie. The detachable charger is a nice feature as well.

Sure the cradle is fine for synching/recharging but after about 16 months of use, the charging lead did not make a clean connect with the cradle interface (or directly with the clie). I had to take apart the charging interface and force the pins out a little more then try and tape it all back together. I have to do this every month now since the pins gradually retract.

It's the only fault I've had in using the Sony Clie but I'll prob have to get a full cradle replacement becuase of it.

This is a great set of sony product. I love the wall adapter I can use at the office seperate from my hotsync craddle. This model is for the Peg-s series, specifically S360,s320 and s300. This will not work with the SJ series and will not work for the SL series clie either. So check your model number carefully.

I just bought a Clie PEG-SL 10, and this cradle is advertised as the right one for PEG-S series. WATCH OUT! does not fit into the PEG-SL10...though it is advertised as compatible for all PEG-S series. I am retuning it.

The touchpad is insensitive and works only very intermittently. The 90 flip capability is confusing and causes the cursor to move apparently randomly in response to touch ---on those rare occasions when the touchpad is actually responsive to touch.

Was very excited to get this for my win7 media center pc. This took us about 2 hours to figure out how to install and get this thing working.

Getting they key code finally came up. after trying to figure that out for another 15 minutes we got it locked in.

You have to create a key code if you can figure all this out. enter it on the remote/new device.

in order for it to even recognize in windows you have to keep pressing the control button on the keyboard.

As for now I do not have a review on the product itself. other than packaged very well. it is very nice.

hard to type of due to size but thats expected. Will take a few days to get used to.

I'll re review this when I have some time to play with it.

So far so good. Just hard as heck to get working.

GreatShield Ultra Smooth Clear Screen Protector Film for ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 (3 Pack)

This is a smooth plastic protector. Feels like you're touching the actual glass screen, unlike some companies that try to market mirrored or tinted or special texture features. Only warning is to be wary of lint as you put it on, because the plastic is not forgiving and will leave a bubble. I just used slightly soapy water to rinse and reapply. If that doesnt work, just use another one of the films. Love that this is a multipack. Also the cuts are very well placed, seems perfect.

I was very pleased with this product. First, it perfectly fit the screen of my Asus Transformer TF300. Second, I thought the quality of the film was better than other screen protectors I have used in the past. It had a more substantial feel to it, and once installed the screen looked great. (Note that this is not an anti-glare product. You get the same reflection off this film that you would off the unprotected tablet screen. Personally it doesn't bother me as I can almost always find a view angle where glare is not a problem.) Finally, the installation of this film was easier than any other screen protector I have worked with. I have installed other brands of screen protectors on other tablets and phones. This one went on the first try with no problems. There were a couple of small bubbles around the edge of the screen that were easily smoothed out with the enclosed flat edge card, and they have't come back. The installation instructions come with a link to an online movie that demonstrates the process. My tip: Do the installation in your bathroom. Run the shower for awhile first. The humidity from the hot water will reduce the amount of dust in the air. Clean your screen thoroughly and then install the film.

I received my stylus "free" in a holiday bundle with an ipad2 case. It is supposed to store in the cord/accessory slot. However, if you have a case on your iPad the cutout for access to the port isn't big enough to store the stylus! Poor designing!!!

I had the phone cover for about 1 week before it the clear coat on the plastic started peeling off. It looked like I put some Elmer's glue on it and was peeling away at it. It was just a terrible quality product. Don't buy from them. You get what you pay for.

I got it in the mail at 3:00 today. It has been in my pocket since then (it's now 9:45) the rubberized back is close to coming off. Haha I mean, it was two pennies. I expected it to be much worse than it is. Overall, I'm very satisfied and I believe I got my two cents worth :)

I love my palm pixi, but the ruberized back started to peel off the phone. This case keeps everything in place. It is also very slim and doesn't bulk up the phone. In addition it has the same texture as the original phone had and is easy to wipe clean.

I am a beginning runner who lives in the country. For safety, I always carry my cellphone and identification when I run, and I bought this holder to circumvent the fact that most running shorts don't have pockets.

This cellphone holder is sturdy and well-constructed, but flexible enough to allow me to slide my ID/health information cards behind the phone. The band, which fits easily around the arm or lower leg, is slightly stretchy for comfort. I prefer to wear this holder around my ankle, where it seems least likely to interfere with normal circulation.

While I haven't experienced this, I suppose it's possible that the heavier stitching on the back of the case may cause chafing if the holder is worn over exposed skin, although I'm inclined to doubt that this would be a problem.

In conclusion, this is an excellent product for a fair price. It would be useful not only for runners, but for anyone who'd like the hold their cellphone, ID, and maybe a house key without pockets. (This product was, in fact, originally designed for horseback riders.) I am highly satisfied with this product, and would not hesitate to recommend it.

I love to go horseback riding out on the trail, and I always carry a cellphone in case of emergency. This cellphone holder can be worn on the arm or leg for secure, quick and easy access. The item description doesn't mention the adjustable velcro band is also elasticized to help keep it in place. I have worn the holder on my arm, over a slippery nylon jacket, and the holder didn't slide around as might be expected. I purchased the holder in yellow; it's a bright, bumblebee yellow, with black trim, not the soft, buttery yellow shown in the picture. Not a complaint, since it could be just the way my monitor shows it. Whatever color you might choose, I think you will find this cellphone holder a helpful item. Highly recommended!

I received 2 of these today and I first thought they were going to be too small for my Blackberry Curve 8310. However, the entire case is made of a quite stretchy but sturdy material and it expanded enough to fit my phone. The quality of the case is quite good and will not easily rip apart. As the other reviewer mentioned, the strap is elasticised and adjustable and long enough to fit around your leg but can still fit securely around your arm without having any excess stick out. It's perfect for keeping your phone on you regardless of what you're doing.

Received my holder today and it is absolutely perfect for when I ride my horses. Now if something should happen I can always be a phone call away.
