Kaiser Baas Bluetooth 2.0 Keyboard BT-130 - PC/MAC, Apple, Anroid, Windows, PS3 & Xbox

Kaiser Baas Bluetooth 2.0 Keyboard BT-130 - PC/MAC, Apple, Anroid, Windows, PS3 & XboxFirstly, I've been using a Logitec Dinovo Mini for my HTPC for over 3 years. That's one fantastic keyboard, which sets a very, very high standard to beat! After all that use though, the letter P and the Shift key have become a little non-responsive, so I've been looking for alternatives. I would buy another Dinovo, but it's expensive and it's end-of-life.

I accidentally came across this in the store (Harvey Norman, Australia) and bought it on impulse for $79 AU.

First the good. It's smaller than it seems. About the size of a mobile phone. The keys are well packed, it makes good use of all space it has on it. It even has F1 to F8, which the Dinovo doesn't have. It has a little track-ball for a mouse, and two easy-to-click buttons for left/right clicks. It has an integrated laser pointer, which works, and I guess would be good for presentations. Also, it's bluetooth, and will sink with any bluetooth device supporting a keyboard (it synched easily to my HTC Sensation phone, although I use it synched to my Windows HTPC). The keys are fairly good, and not very mushy.

Now the bad. The keys are very cramped. The Enter key is the same size as normal keys. Also the configuration is a straight-grid, which is not the same as normal keyboards (look at your keyboard, see how the keys in each row don't line up with the rows below? now look at a screenshot of this thing, the keys line up, this makes it a bit harder to get used to). The trackball feels cheap, and moving the mouse pointer on a 1920x1200 screen takes a lot of scrolling (even on max mouse sensitivity settings in Windows). Also, because of where the mouse clicker buttons are, selecting text or dragging something around is cumbersome (you need to exercise some finger gymnastics with two hands). The keyboard could really, really use a second left-mouse click button on the top-left of the keyboard just like the Dinovo, this would make many operations much easier to perform. Also, the Dinovo is a Bluetooth keyboard, but it comes with a special Dongle that acts as a regular USB keyboard. This however is a pure Bluetooth keyboard. Meaning it won't work in the bios, or in the safe-boot screen, or anywhere else where the full Bluetooth stack is not loaded. This means for a HTPC, you'll need a backup keyboard at hand.

Overall, this keyboard does a fine job. If I never had a Dinovo mini, I'd probably love it a lot more. But the Dinovo does exist, and is well worth the extra money. Maybe a version two of this keyboard can bring it up to par. But as it is now, it's not worth $69. Maybe $40 at most.

LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor

LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor
  • USB port and cable for computer connection
  • No cable hookup or batteries required
  • Includes 6 user-defined function keys
  • Lightweight design includes protective hood
  • Compatible with Handspring Visor handheld organizer (not compatible with Handspring Visor Prism)

I'm a much bigger fan of the Targus folding keyboard. For starters it folds into the size of a handspring. Second of all the Landware version's keys are incredibly small. The one feature benefit of landware is that it's a rigid design so it can be used on your lap while the Targus version is very flexible and needs to be placed on a flat surface to type.

Buy LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Now

I looked at both keyboards and wasn't as impressed with the Stowaway as much as the Gotype. The Gotype is a better value ($69 vs $99) since it comes with word processing software and a thesaurus, plus fuctions as a second cradle (even includes the USB cable). What suprised me the most was that I can type faster on the Gotype than I can on my PC, even though I have pretty big hands. The other plus is that it is stable and slightly inclined, where the Stowaway sits flat and tends to curl on the ends which causes it to bounce when you really get going. I have also seen/heard of the key caps popping off of the Stowaway, but I am told that in later shipments this was corrected. The only drawback to the Gotype vs. the Stowaway is storage compactness; the Gotype is a bit harder to carry around, though Landware does makes a case that allows you to carry both the Visor and the Gotype together. If you use your Visor the way I do, which is for everything that I can think of, especially extensive note taking, the Gotype is a must. Be prepared to attract some attention the first time you use it in public.

Read Best Reviews of LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Here

I purchased 2 of these when I pre-ordered and thought it would be worth keeping both to share in the office. I was wrong. While the GoType for the Visor is faster to use than the stylus for straight entry, it was difficult to master the keyboard buttons that correspond to the PDA. It is also a little large to carry in a pocket, although a woman may get away with carrying it in her purse/backpack. At that point it loses the immediate practicality in my experience.

I also bought the Targus folding keyboard for a few dollars more when it was introduced, and that would be my Handspring-down choice. The Targus folds neatly into a suit-pocket appropriate size and has a roomy feel when extended for typing. I would say that the Targus is twice the keyboard for 10% more in price. Borrow a GoType to try and then buy a Targus to keep and use. You will definitely prefer the Targus.

Want LandWare GoType Keyboard for Handspring Visor Discount?

I wish Landware had made this keyboard just a bit larger. Despite my compact hands, the keyboard size is in that region where it's OK, but not great. I would rather sacrifice compact portability for greater ease of use. And in any event, this is an item that will be carried in a briefcase and not a pocket. I also would have liked a Home and End key included on the board.

I like the solid feel of the keyboard and its stability. This keyboard can be used on the lap. The key action feels good.

The included software has both a mini-word processor and a Thesaurus. One can import and export documents to and from the word processor. All my existing applications work with the keyboard. The included software makes this board very desirable.

There is no delay between the click of a key and the appearance of the character on the Palm screen. This is the primary reason why I bought the Go keyboard rather than Palm's folding keyboard, which reviewers say has a slight delay. That sort of thing drives me bonkers.

I used to have a Palm Vx with a GoType Pro that proved to be more than excellent for light word processing needs. It almost seems that Landware *improved* the action and performance of the keyboard for the Visor model. Yes, it is small, but it is a *much* more solid product that the Targus/Palm keyboard. I have yet to see one of these actually open, extend, and close properly. I found the keys to be excellent for touch-type and not all that difficult to work with. Add to that the fact that it doubles as a HotSync cradle , that it's $30 cheaper, and you quickly see that it's a better value. It would be interesting to see Landware make a PalmOS unit.

BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack)

BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen ProtectorProducts like this one are by far better than those universal screen protectors that you have to cut to the right size! I was a little skeptical about the claims this product made about being the best and reducing glare. I must say I am completely satisfied with its performance! The only drawback to this is there is only one protector in each package, but they can be rinsed to recover the adhesiveness and then re-applied.

After doing research on which screen protector would best suit my needs, I decided on this particular one due to the favorable reviews and reasonable price.

It came in way too much packaging, but I appreciated the small touches that made me feel that this is a higher-end product. There was a lint-removing cloth, a small card to guide application, and of course, very clear and easy to understand instructions.

I actually installed mine in a steamed-up bathroom to minimize dust contamination, but the fact that the adhesive on the protector is actually "renewable" with a little water made me feel a lot more relaxed if ever I messed up the application.

It cuts down glare especially from natural daylight, is extremely resistant to scratches, and does not interfere with stylus sensistivity. And the fact that it is a perfect fit is a huge plus. I am completely satisfied with it and is a good investment to prolong the life of your PDA.

Buy BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack) Now

This is an exceptional screen protector. On the Internet forum AXIMSITE. COM, it is suggested that one install screen protectors in a bathroom steamed up by a running shower in order to minimize dust. This is a good idea. I live in a dusty place and found canned air was inadequate. After what I thought was a clean enough screen surface I was astonished at the amount of dust I trapped. If you fail to rid the process of dust applying this protector, every tiny speck will be visible afterwards, glaring blemishes.

Read Best Reviews of BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack) Here

For those people who are worried about getting one shield for this price, that is NO REASON to discount this screen cover. I have used other products with renewable adhesives like this and have always been pleasantly surprised by this technology (wish I would have invented it!). I did not like the way that I put it on the first time so I took it off (try using adhesive tape at an edge--and you may as well remove a nano-thin edge from the bottom to make the installation a little easier). Run water over both the front and back of the screen cover, any dust or lint will go down the drain, then shake off the extra droplets--all but a few on the back. Those little droplets actually make it a little easier to apply, and if I had realized it, I would have done it deliberately the first time. I used one of my SD cards to squeegee it, along with a soft cloth.

Now, a small confession... when I ordered the product I thought that I was ordering the crystal clear screen shield and nearly sent it back. I decided to try the anti-glare screen since I had it in hand, and I hardly notice it is there. The only reason why I really seem to notice it is that I work with a light coming from behind and that produces glare, no end. Now, GLARE GONE.

I will never, ever order the cheaper screen covers. I have used them and removed them. They are just not worth the money for this Axim's beautiful screen.*

*UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW: This was originally written in 2007. By then, I had already been using it for at least a year. It is now the middle of November of 2009. This screen protector is as good on my Dell Axim X51V as the first day it was ever put on. Even I never imagined that it would last this long. I have never had to remove it after the original application, when I removed a speck of dust under running water. I think that this is as good as it gets for screen protectors for a PDA that has seen far more than its share of abuse during all those years.

Want BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack) Discount?

This is a very helpfull screen protector... it really protects the screen from glares and scratches. Its pretty simple, but I had some problems installing it to my Dell Axim x51, since the screen protector is much more bigger than the screen, so you must "force" it in order to make it perfectly fit, or you could also try to cut the screen protector so it could fit without having to use the "brute force".

It does it work, though, for such a cheap price, but sorry I can't give it a 5 stars, since the installation could be a little bit hard because of its size... which could cause the glue it has to get lost and leave bubbles on the corners of the screen, which happened to mine.

This item looks so awesome on my phone, and it was so easy to apply. I love how my phone looks. The only thing I would warn a customer of is the fact that it's not very protective. Yes, it will prevent some of the minimal smudges and scratches that come from everyday use, but if you're the type of person that drops your phone all the time, I would suggest only purchasing this if you want a change not for heavy duty protection.

Belt Mounted Leather Case Custom Designed for the Palm palm Treo 650 - Black Color with Removable Cl

Belt Mounted Leather Case Custom Designed for the Palm palm Treo 650 - Black Color with Removable Clip by GomadicI had a Verizon case similar in design which worked well except that the bet clip slipped off my thick belt. Once I lost the Treo in a park but was fortunate enough to find it. The belt loops on this case make it impossible to lose. I have had this case several months and no problem with the loops. It also comes with a detachable belt clip which also seems a cut above the competition it hooks AROUND the belt versus just clipping onto it.

The case is a nice looking design but nothing special compared to other similar cases. It is harder than the Verizon case so it probably provides a little more protection. The only problem I have had is that taking the Treo out of the case often turns it on or answers the phone not sure why since this never happended with the Verizon case. Expensive but highly recommend for security against loss.

PalmOne Universal Essentials Kit (P10959U)

PalmOne Universal Essentials Kit
  • Great PALM accessories for your PALM handheld -- all in one convenient package!
  • Each kit contains a case, multi-function stylus, and screen protectors
  • Essential for all PALM models

After reading so many negative reviews for the Tungsten E hard case, I began looking for other options. My search led me to this accessory pack, which does a decent job at a very affordable price.

The case is semi-rigid ballistic nylon with a nice quality zipper enclosure on three sides. My guess is that it would keep its contents safe from moderate shocks or compression (both flat and on the corners). It's also attractive in a low-profile sort of way. On the inside, there are slots for a few credit cards or ID badges as well as two smaller ones for Palm expansion cards. The only two drawbacks are that the case doesn't lie flat portfolio-style when opened (this may ease up with age) and the only method of securing your Palm to the case is an enclosed Velcro sticker. I've never been a fan of attaching sticky items onto electronics, although the case of my Tungsten E is so ugly I may break my policy.

The multi-function pen is not exactly as pictured it's much bigger than I expected and unfortunately too big to fit in the case. However, there's a lot of functionality in there: a black pen, a pink (!) highlighter, a mechanical pencil and a Palm Stylus. It's lightweight but almost to the point of feeling cheap and it rattles when you write with it. Plus, the method of selecting which point pops out is a little cumbersome and it's probably only a matter of time before I write on my Palm with highlighter. The packaging includes instructions for replacing the ink and pencil, so at least it promises life beyond the initial cartridges.

Finally, the screen protectors are just that. They work that's about all you can say. I expect that they'll keep me from freaking out when I inevitably highlight on my screen.

So, while the solutions are far from perfect, you'd be hard-pressed to find a package so all-encompassing or budget-conscious. A must-have for a new Palm user, student, etc.

Slim-Fit Dual Layer Black Leather Case with Smart Cover Function Stylus Holder for iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4 + Stylus Pen
  • The New iPad Full Body Cover protects the interior and exterior of your iPad from dust, scratches, drop and bumps.
  • Comes with innovative Cover that automatically puts your iPad in "Sleep" mode when covered and then into "Wake Up" mode when uncovered.
  • Cover can be folded providing a firm horizontal and typing position.
  • The exterior is made from an Eco-Friendly synthetic Leather and the interior is lined with a suede material. Design with Pen/stylus holder.
  • Combo include one capacitive stylus pen; iPad not included. Case ONLY Compatible with Apple iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4 (w/ retina display).

I am overall pleased with this purchase, as it gets the job done. However, I am saddened that the cover for the screen seems to be stretched, I guess you could say. It doesn't fully close on top of my ipad, so when I lay it down, it wakes up. The case fits well, just there is nothing holding the top on the screen, so it flaps around and appears loose. I was looking for something more secure I suppose.

Sling Media Slingbox Classic

Sling Media Slingbox Classic

  • Easy to use and set up, with no new cables required, automatic device discovery,

  • Easy to use and set up, with no new cables required, automatic device discovery

Well, I've only been using it for about 2 days now and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised and 99% satisfied! (1% is lost on the fact that only one computer can use it at a time.)

The quality is top-notch! I thought it might be pixelated, jerky, or buggy but it isn't. It flows and runs like a regular TV. It just feels like you're watching TV.

Let me also mention all of the features that it has:

* You can watch TV with a full screen and either have the remote on the screen, or not.

* You can hit a button and it will automatically dock to one side of the screen and re-adjust the size of your other windows. And then, you can even fine tune and adjust the size of that window.

* If you just want it to be on your screen and not be docked, you can do that and adjust that screen size as well.

* You can also create a list of favorite channel icons, so all you do is click onto your favorite channel's icon. If the icon doesn't exist you can create your own!

* It also works with channels like HBO On Demand and with TiVo as well (however, I don't have TiVo).

* If your workplace has a firewall, you can access your home computer using your home computer's IP Address.

This product is HIGHLY recommended!

Buy Sling Media Slingbox Classic Now

I was amazed. On my home network, streamed very high quality (though small picture, since the TV signal is actually less than 640x480), and when I went wireless, the quality dropped (as expected), but it kept up with audio, didn't break up. Really amazingly well designed wizard to configure.

Ground-breaking technology. This device allows me to watch my Chicago cable TV service while in Paris. It converts the TV signal into an internet transmission. The image is only about 4 x 3 inches in size on my higher density 1680 by 1050 notebook screen but looks very clean and highly viewable. Sound quality is excellent. Transfer rates ranges from 400 to 700 kbps.

Another feature of this product is that it can be used as an internet based remote control. I have one in my mother's senior home apartment. It enables me to view her apartment, view her electronics, and send remote control signals to her electronics whenever she gets stumped. I'm sure there are many other ways to apply this unique technology.

SlingMedia is an exceptional company. The initial release of this product brought rave reviews -uncommon for release 1.0. They did not rest. Since then, they have released new versions which further enhanced the SlingBox.

I'm impressed with the concept, the technology, the product, the execution, the installation, the enhancements, the updatability, the reliability, the quality of the support, the people from top to bottom. The staff members are very active on avsforum.com. Great attitudes.

While Tivo enabled me to watch TV when I wanted, this product allows me to watch TV where it was otherwise impossible.

This may be the best consumer electronic product of 2005.

I'm in no way affilated with SlingMedia. I'm just a SlingBox fan boy.

Want Sling Media Slingbox Classic Discount?

I want to follow up on my first post about the SlingBox. After my review I was contacted by Blake the CEO of Slingmedia asking me if he could have his support Manager give me a call to discuss my problems. After explaning my story to Larry Lane he asked me if I would give the box another chance. He told me that if I ran into more problems that the box can be sent back no questions asked. I decided that since the CEO of the company can reach out to me as a customer that Slingmedia was concerned how they treated their customers! (How many CEO's reach out to the average customer??).

Larry worked with me personally in setting up my new unit to make sure things went right. After the initial set up I still had a few viewing issues. Larry and his team worked with me on the issues only to find out these issues were due to my router. To make a long story short I replaced my linksys router with a Netgear 624A. My entire network seems to be working much better and the slingbox is GREAT!!!!

I cant say enough how wonderful Blake/Larry and their team was! Without the email from Blake I can honestly say that I would not have a slingbox today or in the future. The people running the company are terrific and have completely changed the way I look at their product! I strongly recommend the product to anyone! The technology is amazing! I cant wait to the summer to sit outside on my deck, get some sun and watch the NY Mets play some baseball!!

Thank you Blake and Larry!! You and your team are great!

My friend explained Slingbox to me, and at first I just didn't get it. Then one day it hit me: I could be in a hotel room, get on my laptop, control my Tivo or cable box via remote repeaters, and watch the streaming video sent from my house. That was when I realized that the way I watched TV was about to change again (since I got my Tivo) and I couldn't wait.

I got a Slingbox as quickly as I could and have absolutely loved it. With the help of the great Dell Inspiron 700m laptop, I've watched and controlled my home TV in the airport, hotels, coffee shops, in my bed, at work, and even had a friend's wife catch up on her O.C. in Singapore! I've docked the SlingPlayer viewer while working on my desktop at home. After watching from work a couple of times, my boss bought one and streams the news all day he's hooked.

The Slingbox looks great, is exceptionally easy to set up, and the software works very well. I'm really impressed with the picture and the dynamic streaming based on bandwidth. Make sure you've planned how you're going to add it to your networkI used the netgear Power over Ethernet bridge to connect to my network from the living room, and I'd recommend it if your TV is far from your network (easy setup, high bandwidth, and no extra radio waves going through your body).

As a Slingbox owner, I highly recommend this product, especially if you've been thinking about getting a TV tuner or Video card with tuner supportthis is a more flexible alternative, and SlingPlayer viewer software can be installed on multiple systems.

P.S. Desperate Housewives was only used for the purpose of alliteration. It is not an admission that I watch it. I did actually watch T.V., although not South Park, from Switzerland, and it worked flawlessly!

Yes it takes a bit of force to remove it, because it was designed that way.

As you can see from the picture there is an opening at the top. If it did not take some force to remove, your phone would simply pop out of the holster as you walk/run/skip rope, (whatever activity) you happen to be doing

This holster is designed to stay attached while you talk on the phone. All buttons/ports are accessible while the phone is attached to the holster.

This is an excellent holster. But don't believe me, check the reviews of the same holster (from a different vendor) in the below link.

impossible to pull the phone out of the holster with one hand. why they did this i have no clue.

i cant use it, because it is impractical. Dont buy this Holster!

RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard - Compatible with Apple iPad PC and Mac , Built-in Touchpad Mou

RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard - Compatible with Apple iPad PC and Mac , Built-in Touchpad Mouse, Backlit Display and Laser PointerThis product has been given to me as a review unit. It arrived about 3 days after it was sent from LaptopMate's warehouse. Took it out of the package, and I was presented with a nice looking green box, similar to Logitech's box design. The bottom of the box tells you about all the features of the keyboard. Upon opening the box, I was presented with the keyboard in its plastic bag, ready to be taken out and used. Under the pull-out tray, you get an instruction manual, and a mini USB cable for charging.

The manual is well-written in English, with minor mistakes that shouldn't confuse too many people. The manual tells you the safety information, instructions on how to use the keyboard, and a small list of troubleshooting instructions in the back.

The keyboard is well-built; the body is sturdy, and doesn't feel like it will fall apart easily. It is lightweight, and feels like only half the weight of a TV remote. On the sides, it has a mini USB port, the laser and its button, the on/off switch, and a slot where the wireless receiver is stored. To use any functions of the keyboard, you must turn it on. I was glad that the keyboard had a built-in rechargeable battery, I'm not a fan of buying a bunch of AAA batteries to operate my gadgets. The laser isn't the strongest, but it fares well for presentation from about 50 feet away. The keyboard also has a white backlight; not too bright, not too dark, perfect for operating your computer in the dark.

Now, onto the top of the keyboard where most things are found. The letters are printed clearly, and the keyboard overall has a good tactile feedback; also, the keys are made of rubber, so it makes typing pretty comfortable. It has 4 LED lights on the top left corner; the first one indicates transmission activity, the second one indicates the battery charging, the third one indicates battery capacity, and the last one indicates caps lock. The top row of the keyboard consists of the F1-F8 keys (the rest are under the Fn of numbers 1-4), and the Backspace key. The Escape key is directly below the LED indicator lights, and the main keyboard pretty much begins from there. This is probably due to sacrifice for compact design, but the bottom row of the alphabets is moved over to the left a little, so you'll have to get used to it to avoid making mistakes. There's an Fn key on the bottom left, it can be used to access additional functions on the keyboard, such as PrtSc, volume and media control, and Ctrl+Alt+Del. The right side of the keyboard is reserved for the touchpad, mouse buttons, and the arrow keys.

I plugged the USB receiver into my laptop (Windows 7 64-bit), and the drivers installed immediately without any actions required. Turned the keyboard on, saw the lights come on, and I was ready to operate. I was surprised at how I could actually hold it in my hands while typing with ease. The touchpad works great for me, and is sensitive just like my laptop. The arrow keypad is a little odd, but I'm sure if I used it more I can get used to it. Pressing the keys is easy, it doesn't require any strength. The keyboard also has an auto sleep feature, where if it is inactive for a long period of time, it will go to sleep, saving a bit of battery (although it is recommended to turn off the keyboard when not in use).

This keyboard is perfect for work and home. It has a range of around 5 meters (~15 feet), so it's good for plugging your computer up to a TV and controlling it from somewhere cozier than your chair. For $30, this is a pretty neat little device. Give it a try! If it breaks, not to worry, LaptopMate has an 18-months warranty, and a good return policy.

PS. This is perfect for controlling my laptop on the TV, in my bed at night! Endless midnight entertainment, here I come! :D

I was very pleased initially with this device to control my home entertainment system computer from my couch and ordered a second one in case the first got damaged. I must be psychic because the day after the new one arrived, the first one was no longer recognized by the laptop. I never turned them on at the same time so they didn't cancel each other out. The first one just died and I felt lucky to have a new spare on hand. But then the new one malfunctioned after only about an hour's use. Is my HP laptop killing these things? I don't think so but I've had it with them. The owner's manual says nothing about any warranty or how to have it repaired. I'm waiting to hear from the Amazon Market vendor and I'm sure he'll say he just ships boxes, not repair anything. These devices seem to be made in China. I've changed my rating from 4 stars to 1 star. It worked great for a very short while, then kaput!

The keyboards backlight does not stay on, only lights when first turned on. The pointer does not work and the manual is deplorable.

This has worked so great ! I use for my Mac that is hooked up to a tv and you can right click!!!!! I know that does not sound like much but for a Mac it is . Touchpad also is smooth a little small but overall accurate . The battery life is also amazing it turns off while not using and you only have to click any button twice for it to come out of stand by. For 20 bucks it can not be beat, I hope this helps your shopping!

The RII shipped fast and I could not wait to use after reading all of the good reviews. After unpacking it I noticed that the F2 key was not seated properly and I could not depress it. After getting it up and running I found that only half of the keyboard lights up. It would have been nice if they just assembled it properly. The instruction booklet is a joke though you really don't need it, just plug it in and go on Linux. I gave it 3 stars because it really is cool.

Twelve South Compass Portable Stand for iPad and iPad2

Twelve South Compass Portable Stand for iPad and iPad2
  • Perhaps the biggest strength of this gorgeous sliver of steel is its versatility. Used upright as an easel, Compass lets you view and interact with iPad in both portrait and landscape modes, even if you keep your iPad protected in the Apple case.
  • Compass is an iPad stand designed for those who want to work on their iPad. Designed with a fold-away secondary leg, Compass instantly transforms from an easel to a pint-size work station, angled perfectly for typing on iPad's onscreen keyboard.
  • Folded flat, Compass is a mere 7-inches long by 1-inch wide, about the size of a candy bar. Small enough to carry anywhere and use everywhere you go.
  • Compass is beautifully designed and folds to a compact size making it totally mobile so you can easily take your iPad show on the road. It's versatility makes it perfect for business or pleasure.
  • This one-of-a-kind mobile iPad accessory is super easy to set up. Slide the sleek Compass out of its case, simply fold out all three legs and fold down the two iPad supports and you're done.

Nice device, but a couple of real drawbacks.

It is heavy. Sometimes heavy is good, and perhaps I'm looking at this from the perspective of an ultralight backpack hammock camper, which I am , but this thing is quite heavy. It is 7 ounces, which us "gram weenies" know is the size of an entire camping cook stove. LOL If you're just going to the coffee shop with it, it's not a back breaker, though. Just eat your Wheaties, okay.

The main problem with it for iPAd is that it opens and closes in such a way that when you peck on the iPad, it wants to close. The hind leg should have been built the other way so that pressure on the Ipad would open the stand, not close it. On several occasions, just from pecking on the iPad for a while--and I'm not Hercules or anything--the Compass stand will just close up and my iPad falls flat on the table. Hard. I actually am thinking about a work around to put a rubber ball or pencil inside the "crotch", if you will, of teh Compass so that it can't close. But for forty bucks, I shouldn't have to do this. To me, this is a major problem with the Compass stand, and had I to do it again, I might opt as others online have for a dish display stand. At Michael's or Hobby Lobby, they have plate stand displays, they are plastic or wood, they open up like a book, and they are lightweight and cost about $5 each. Many use this successfully with the iPad. It doesn;t allow the low, or flat, position like the Compass, but then again my SmartCover allows me to do that already anyhow.

So, middling marks for a stand that is solid, strong, sturdy, but tends to fold flat (trust me, use it for a while and if you peck your iPad, it'll shut on you) closed at the wrong times, is slightly heavy, and is very pricey,

Hope that helps, click above if it did, your opinions may vary and that's fine, you should write a review, too. Bye bye.

Addendum April 18: I can't take it any longer. The back leg that props this up is simply not at an angle that prevents the iPad from falling. I went to Michael's and bought a $5 wooden fold flat display plate holder, and it works superbly (just as others online have said). I never return anything to Amazon, but I am returning this Compass stand. It's a loser, to me. Particularly for forty bucks. The company clearly put design before function on this one. Avoid this product. Use the plate holder. Wood Plate Stand Black 9 Inch

Addendum: I bought also an Arkon standArkon Portable Fold-Up Stand for Apple iPad, Galaxy Tab, BlackBerry Play Book and my review is there of it. Very superior to this Compass stand in every way. Sorry, Twelve South, back to the drawing board for you.

I still use the plate stand, too. So, the plate stand and the expensive Compass stand re NOT adjustable for tilt angle. The Akron stand is.

Addendum July 1, 2011: I'm still using akron plastic stand so successfully that I bought as second one for the office, and I still didn;t spend as much as one single Twelve Compass stand. The Akron solved my issues for iPAd and Kindle, too.

Thanks a lot.

I travel a lot. Unfortunately, the Compass Stand appears on airport security scanners as a heavy, metal object in the shape of a knife. I just returned from a five-country, European trip. Each time I passed through security, I was stopped and asked to demonstrate the purpose of the "dense metal object" in my carry-on luggage.

I love the design and size of the stand. Sadly, its solid makeup is also the cause of travel problems. I'm more upset with the paranoid state of airline security than I am with the folks at TwelveSouth, who deserve a lot of praise for the stand's design.

When I needed a travel stand for my iPad 2, the choice came down to the Griffin Loop and the Compass. I went to the Apple Store and asked the saleswoman if I could test both out. The Griffin does NOT work with the iPad 2, despite what it says on the Griffin site. The Compass works great with the iPad 2. Just keep in mind that what you're getting with this stand is a compromise between sturdiness and portability, but it's an EXCELLENT compromise. I'm a reporter, and I bought this to bring with me while covering conferences and conventions. I need it to prop the iPad up when I'm using a keyboard or showing photos/videos, and to hold the iPad when I'm typing or editing images/video. The Compass has already proven itself on one busy trip.

The Compass comes with a carrying case that looks like it's meant to hold chopsticks--that's how small this thing folds up to. I store it in a pen pocket of my iPad carrying case. What surprised me most about this stand is how substantial it is: It's solid metal, with durable rubber padding where necessary, and the folding parts have a decent amount of resistance. The way that the supports fold away is brilliant; if it weren't so well built, this stand would be just a gimmick. It IS well-built, so it's a practical accessory.

In display mode, you will need to hold the iPad with one hand while you press buttons. This is the case with most stands; if you think about it for a second, to make a stand that will let you type and swipe while the iPad is upright, the device would need to be solidly attached to the stand, and the stand would need to be either weighted down or attached to a surface, all resulting in something too big to put in a briefcase or purse. For a gadget that folds to the size of a pair of chopsticks, the Compass holds up rather well. The grooved rubber pads on the bottom part also help.

In typing mode, I still have to be a little careful when pressing the Home button, or the iPad may slide. I do not recommend playing games with this stand, as any aggressive poking or swiping may dislodge the tablet. Comparison to Apple Smart Cover: I've had the Apple cover collapse more often and more easily when typing or attempting to do things on the iPad while in display mode; the Smart Cover does not do portrait mode. Compass wins as a stand.

Pros:

Solidly built

Compact for travel

Looks like something Blade would use to kill vampires

Good support for most uses outside of gaming

Cons:

Not sturdy enough for gaming or angry emailing

May raise suspicion of astute airport screeners

I picked one up at the Apple store today and like it. Very compact and durable. I keep my iPad in a protective case so all docks are out of the question. This tiny easel is just what I needed. It is very stable when the iPad is in landscape mode for most browsing and watching movies. And if your gently and do not pound on your iPad it seems ok in portrait orientation. I will say that unlike the photos they show, it does not work very well in laid back mode. The iPad rocks a lot when you try to use it that way. Even though it's build quality is not as highly polished as the iPad, it is very solid and looks like it will last a long time.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this stand.
