Acer RL70-UR308 Desktop (Black)

Acer RL70-UR308 Desktop
  • AMD Processor E-450 (1.65GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
  • 2GB DDR3
  • 500 GB SATA Hard Drive
  • Windows 8

If you are into home media systems this is a great idea. Add 2gb of 204-pin, DDR3, PC3-10600 memory (about $15) and you will have a fantastic system. Even though this is a "desktop" computer, it uses lap-top memory. Before I got it, I did a lot of research just to confirm what kind of memory it takes. It was the 204-pin part that was hard to confirm, but once you get it, it's fairly easy to install.

It comes with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard which work great for me from 10' away. Add a good media player, sit-back and enjoy. I am using XBMC but Media Monkey and WMP are okay too. I just got this yesterday evening and have spent most of the day getting it set-up and loaded with all my MP3s. So far I'm thrilled.

Windows 8 is a bit of an adjustment. It has a really different look and feel, but seems to be a lot like windows 7 under the hood. I'll update this if anything of note comes up.

12/20 update: Forgot to mention that documentation is minimal and quite poor, though not really necessary. I found some assistance on the web/youtube regarding the memory upgrade. There is one screw to remove which holds the case together, and you'll want to use a plastic credit card to pry the case apart. It snaps back together easily and you replace the screw. (may have warranty issue if you open the case). Also, since there is no cd, you'll need an external cd drive to make a windows recovery cd.

I bought this to replace my old Acer Aspire R1600 mini desktop. It still works great, but I wanted to upgrade to a Windows 8. Setting up the computer was fairly routine, the Windows 8 OS required a learning curve but was doable. The machine lost the monitor image briefly a couple of times, forcing me to start over again from the start window. This gave me concern, but for the most part it worked ok. Then it lost the monitor image completely. The monitor was saying it was not receiving a signal. Meanwhile the computer was on and making a sound like the HDD was going full speed. I used my other computer to access Acer online tech support and they wanted me to pay $38.00 to answer my question about the problem I was having. I decided to call Tech support instead and quickly got help. I was told to unhook everything from the computer, then rehook all my connections. After pressing on the start button, the computer started up and worked well for about a day. The last time I started the computer it froze up at Acer logo screen. I called Acer support. Tried a few things with no help. I was told to insert a recovery disc. My bad, I did not make one yet. It prompted me to use a flash card, I did not have one handy. They did not have a Windows 8 recovery disk in stock, I will have to call back in two days and then I can order one for $19.95 plus tax. I will update my report after I get my disk.

UPDATE: Acer support sent me the recovery dics. I hooked up the REVO to begin the installation. It booted up fine when I turned it on. The computer rebooted itself once while I was browsing on the internet. It had previously done this twice before when I had just received it and as before, it made a beeping sound just prior to rebooting itself. Still tentative about purchasing the computer but in all fairness, Acer support has been very helpful.

This desktop is awesome, amazing design and good size for a desktop.

I bought this PC for media center purposes, connected to a hometheater and a 1080p TV.

Unfortunatly this specific model doesn't have enough cpu power to play encoded videos like 1080p mp4 or mkvs. Even 720p with DTS sound sometimes flickers or pauses for a second or two.

I upgraded the memory to 6Gb and it still coundn't play 1080p videos, even after I uninstalled the mcafee antivirus and norton firewalls...

I could not play 5.1 sound through the HDMI either, but as it has a optical output, that was not an issue.

UPDATE: tweaking the codecs I was able to enable hardware acceleration to the GPU and now I can watch 1080p movies at 30% CPU. One more star.

I don't really like the windows 8 environment but over all it is a good and sleek looking machine. I have it on top of my entertainment center and connected to my TV and I use it to watch HULU and Netflix

Overall very good design, I knew that 2Gb was not going to be enough, I did some research before I bought it and got to know that I can install up to 8Gb RAM even though it does not say it supports it. I have it up and running after instaslling the 8GB RAM. Very Nice, perfect for entertainment center.

Black Carbon Fiber Fabric Snap on Hard Skin Shell Protector Faceplate Cover Case for Htc Evo Shift4g

Black Carbon Fiber Fabric Snap on Hard Skin Shell Protector Faceplate Cover Case for Htc Evo Shift4g + Lcd Screen Guard + Microfiber Pouch Bag + Case OpenerI had ordered this case, recieved a very cheap quality case that didn't at all match the picture associated with this item. Contacted the seller, got fast response and recieved another one within a couple business days. However the second product was almost even worse quality. It matched the picture, however it looked as though a base white plastic mold had been used and some cheap vinyl wrap had been poorly wrapped around it. Within a few days it started peeling. I figured though, for that cheap of a price I got 2 phone cases essentially. Long story short: you get what you pay for.

SanDisk SDSDB-64-A10 Secure Digital 64 MB

SanDisk SDSDB-64-A10 Secure Digital 64 MB
  • High transfer rate for fast copy/download
  • 64 MB storage capacity
  • Low battery consumption to maximize battery life in small portable devices
  • Operating shock rating of 2,000 Gs, equivalent to a 10-foot drop to the floor
  • 5-year warranty

With so many extra Palm software titles available, most Palm units 8 megabytes and fewer don't seem to have enough memory.

The SanDisk 64 MB SD card for your PDA comes in handy as a place to store documents, programs, photos, and games you don't use daily but want nearby.

Just plug it into your memory slot and save over to the card. It's that easy. Also, you may want to consider a program like "Filez," (there are others) which will help you determine which files are on the card.

Buy SanDisk SDSDB-64-A10 Secure Digital 64 MB Now

Two kids and a dog. I can't help but carry pictures of them to show them off. Photos take too much memory, so I purchased the card and put the photos on it as well as PDF files and reading materials. It's great not to clutter and slow down the PDA with these files that are housed on the card. Only complaint is that it's slow to load the items on the card.

Whenever I go to my photos, it takes longer to get them loaded than if they were on the PDA's memory. But, if the photos are in the PDA itself, then it uses up precious space.

I just used it with a card reader that I bought and the reader read the files quickly. It's small and lightweight -easy for people to lose and misplace. But, I keep the card in except for when loading its data into the card reader.

I have some older mounts in my vehicles for my older phones that used a swivel knob and I was hoping to just use this cradle in some way with those existing mounts. I didn't want to spend the big money on new OEM window mounts for a work vehicle and a personal vehicle, so when I came across these I was excited. Sure enough, all I had to do was use double-sided tape and put one of my old swivel knobs on the back of this cradle and it fits in my existing mounts! The back of this cradle does stick out a tad (1/16" or so) but that didn't effect my mounting. I love these... OEM cradle mounts are great!

Also, there is a small magnet inside these that when the Droid is placed in the cradle, it automatically starts the "Car Home" application (ie. car mode). I think if you didn't want this you could pop off a removable cover and somehow take the small magnet out (I may still do this, but car mode may actually be a good thing).

Of course, this cradle can't be used if you have any covers on your Droid. I used to use a bulky cover but went to an OEM belt clip and love it... I just have to be more careful about not dropping the phone. However, I like the feel of the thin Droid without covers.

I highly recommend these units!

After trying it for few days I should admit this is an excellent projector which hasn't captured much attention.

It comes with 50 Lumen RGB LED lamp delivers crystal clear HD

I like the fact that it came bundled with the cables required to connect your laptop and tripod is included in the bundle which is very nice.

I've just ordered the iPad connector kit so that I can hookup to my iPhone and iPad.

Integrated speaker is loud enough and sound clarity is too good while watching movies without any distortion,Although I personally use an external speaker for getting a theatre effect. I could project the movie upto 100" without any resolution problems.

Supports Micro SD and USB, I connect my 1 TB external harddrive with USB to watch movies and it reads the harddrive without any issues

Battery Life comes to 1-1.5 hrs if watching a movie, I haven't got a chance to check with presentations and stuff

I'm totally satisfied with this product

If down-sampling 1920x1080 content to 854x480 counts as "High Definition", then what doesn't? Was a 386 with CGA monitor an "HD" video display, because all you have to do is transcode your BluRay to 320x200 with 4-bit color before playback? Falsehoods in advertising deserve 1/5 stars.

However: for all I know this is an excellent DVD-quality display, if by dumb luck the people responsible for hiring dishonest marketers also hired honest engineers.

iGadgitz Red Neoprene Sleeve Case Cover with Front Pocket for New Amazon Kindle Touch Wi-Fi 6' E Ink Display Ereader 3GDoes the job for an inexpensive cover. It fits the new Kindle Touch a little on the snug side. You just need to make sure it's in all the way, or you risk scratching the Kindle with the zipper when you open and close it. The side pocket is nice to have, but also quite snug. You can fit the cord and a business card in there, but that's it.

M-Edge Supershell Cover for iPad 2 and the New iPad (Blue)

M-Edge Supershell Cover for iPad 2 and the New iPadI absolutely love ths case. I have four children 9 and under, and this case is perfect for protecting the iPad from damage. It is bigger than other cases, so someone without children may not prefer it, but even when I am using the iPad I love the way the case makes it easy to hold and you can prop it up any where and it won't slide down because of the shell's material. The is a great advantage when watching videos or when I need to prop it in the kitchen to read a recipe.

Another praise for the M-Edge: I have a special needs daughter and this case has protected the iPad from many a drop!

My son has dropped the ipad a couple of times and it hasn't shattered the glass or anything. It's a great investment.

My 6 year old granddaughter received her 1st iPad for Christmas. Being an iPad owner myself, I knew it would be a challenge for her, to hold onto. This case was even better than expected. It protects all 4 edges, and allows her to hold it, without losing her grip. She can also lean it against the wall, etc, while we FaceTime and it doesn't slip away. Her parents, who get to use it, after her bedtime, don't mind the case being there either. I'm considering one for myself now. It also fit perfectly, and was easy to place on the iPad. Would definitely recommend this cover. Just pick your favorite color, and get that order placed.

I purchased this cover after my Ipad screen had been broken while in a Griffin Survivor case. After repeated drops by my son, one corner of the inner case had cracked compromising it's protection. I was skeptical that this would be a good solution for me since it did not have a front screen cover like the Griffin. I was nicely surprised. The case is so much lighter than the griffin and is easy to grip. My kids have had it for a couple of months now and the case is rarely dropped. The couple of times it has happened, the case provided the protection needed. I highly recommend this case to anyone that has an ipad that is used by children.

512MB Sandisk Compact Flash Memory Card (Bulk)

512MB Sandisk Compact Flash Memory CardWorks perfectly. Seems to be the max. capacity for this camera. More than fast enough. Good price!

This memory card size is great for the use with Fanuc controls. This memory size is large enough to hold plenty of data. This memory size is small enough that the control allows the use of this memory card. I have been told that if you use to large of a memory card on Fanuc controls the card will not work. This card used with the adapter SanDisk SDAD-38-A10 CF to PC Card Adapter will work well on a Fanuc cnc machine tool controls.

I got this for use with my old digital camera on a tripod for taking pictures of my years of journals -hundreds of pictures. I found it took a good two or three seconds longer to write each image to the card than my older card does.

Read Best Reviews of 512MB Sandisk Compact Flash Memory Card (Bulk) Here

This 512 memory card is very hard to find in local stores, now that all new cameras and video products require much larger MB capacity, like gigabyte + actually. While I am still using my digital Nikon camera that only has 5 megapixel capacity, the camera will not accept memory cards with more than the 512MB. I found out when I put a 4 gigabyte card in the slot...got a no memory alert. You simply cannot use large memory in many of the former cameras. I was very glad to dilscover that Amazon had the smaller cards available online. I plan to get a few more, just until I purchase a newer camera, with say, 14 + megapixel.

Want 512MB Sandisk Compact Flash Memory Card (Bulk) Discount?

I bought this for my SLR Digital camera. I have had one 512 MB Flash Memory Card since 2005. I figured it was time to get a new one. When I saw it was offered on Amazon, I was glad it was the same one I have. I tried it out and it is perfect and no problems with anything. My camera has excellent resolution and a backup Flash Memory Card was just what I needed. Now I do not have to run out and buy a new camera because I can capture more images on the new disk. I can lock it as well since it has a slide lock on the side. Follow the directions when inserting as some cameras need to have it placed in the camera white side facing rear. Until my next camera upgrade, this will do the trick for my needs.

In HA and HE modes, it records in 1080/59.97i, while in DV, these solid-state units record at 480/59.94i, 480/29.97p, 480/223.98p.
  • New Focus Assist Functions: In addition to conventional focus-in-red assist, improved functionality in the AC130A includes expanded focus assist and "turbo speed" one-push autofocus. Focus assist enables the camera to zoom in on the picture to check focus. Turbo-speed one-push auto focus ensures that the camcorder quickly attains focus.

The Panasonic AG-AC130A is the perfect all around camcorder for run and gun pro use. It's big enough to look the part but light enough to use all day without fatigue. The camcorder uses twin SDHC cards which can be set up to record in sequence for longer recording time or they can record to both cards simultaneously for file back-up. The AVCHD format allows longer recording times than the Quicktime format while providing the same compression quality, but the trade-off is you must convert the files to Quicktime for use in Final Cut Pro. If you use Sony Vegas, you can drag and drop the files to your drive and edit the native AVCHD files right away.

The three 1/3 inch MOS chips provide excellent low light performance and super clean and sharp footage even in typical room lighting. They also provide truly rich and accurate colors beyond that of most DSLR's. You can manually dial in the exact color temperature in 100K increments. The lens has very wide angle and strong zoom at 22x optical zoom. Sharpness is good, but just a tad below the Leica series of lenses on their other camcorders. There are three independent rings for focus, manual zoom and manual iris control. Each ring has one function and there's no having to set a control to change ring functions. Focus is electronic, but it is super smooth even beyond a mechanical focus ring.

Film Makers smitten with low depth of field will have to shoot with the lens wide open and adjust the lighting and neutral density filters to obtain a film-like depth of field, but it is possible. There is a native 24P setting in both 1080 and 720 modes as well as cinema gamma for film like color and contrast. Dual XLR connectors mean you can do away with second system audio, saving countless hours of video sync in the editing suite. If film makers can get past the DSLR hype, they'll find this Panny more suitable than they think for their film making tasks at a cost that won't break the bank. There's everything needed for indie film making right out of the box.

Auto focus is reportedly slow, and that is confirmed by this user. However, any pro shooter would never use auto focus anyway, so it's a moot point. Truthfully, I would rather see them do away with autofocus and use a true manual focus only lens.

The viewfinder and LCD panel are both high res, so you can focus easily with either one as long as your eyes work as good as these devices. There is electronic peaking for focus assist as well. Zebra stripes and built in waveform monitor help set the perfect exposure and a built in vectorscope helps set up perfect color.

In short, the AG-AC130A has all the bells and whistles most pros need, with image and sound quality to match.

Needed it to match my other AC-AG130 camera. I use it for multi cam shooting projects. The two cameras match up beautifully and the pictures are razoar sharp with vibrant colors. Time lapse feature is awsome. The only drawback is that a shoulder mount camera is easier on the back for those long on-location projects where hand held mobilityis necessary. Otherwise I use a tripod. A monopod is probably what I will use when mobility is necessary. got to save my back!!!

Good camera for light production work. Great especially if you still shoot DV format. not as good in low light as my old Sony PD-150 (you have to turn the gain up). Think hard about exactly how you are planning on using your camera. I needed FireWire out, so the equivalent Sony camera was out. But DV files take up a lot of room (4.5 hours is about 64 gigs). Now I'm considering shooting in HD, if only to save space. However, that will require me to use composite out (this camera can't output FireWire when shooting in HD). So although I do like this camera, for my purposes, if I could go back, if get the Sony. Now, if I shot more in HD, if be looking at it differently. Otherwise I'm very happy with this camera.

I received the camera it was well packed a box in a box. I have gone out and shot video and am very happy with the results. The only issues I have are it did not come with a lens cap even though it said it should. I just ordered one for 6 bucks. They sent me the 130AP not the 130A. It did not come with all of the manuals but they were on the CD. You spend that much money you would think it would come with all of them. I am using the camera to shoot country music videos and I am very happy with the results. Use the 300 speed memory!

Update: My bad I found the lens cap buried in the box, so it was there.

PalmOne Zire 71 Handheld

PalmOne Zire 71 Handheld
  • Bright, 320x320 transflective TFT color display supports more than 65,000 colors
  • Texas Instruments OMAP310 processor (ARM); 144 MHz
  • Integrated digital camera with 640x480 resolution, auto exposure, and automatic white balance control
  • SD expansion slot
  • Zire 71 Handheld, Protective Carrying Case, USB HotSync Cradle, Power Adapter, Desktop Software CD-ROM, Software Essentials CD-ROM, Stylus

I Fried (Power Surge) my handspring Visor over the weekend and went to BestBuy with my "Service Protection Plan" They gave me full credit towards a new device ($...). I had to upgrade. My choice was between the Clie and the Zire ($... extra). The Zire won hands down. It's speed is fantastic, those of you who have older 33MHz chips will notice. The Colors are rich and bright and the interface is easy to use. Graffiti2 takes a little getting use to but it is easily mastered. The camera is just a neat addition, I mean it's not designed for professional photography. Thats what a 5megapixel digital camera is for. But it's great for taking little memory shots and having pictures of your kids available. And the device itself looks good too.

I do agree 16megs is a bit chincey esp when only 13megs is available for application usage. My biggest gripe is the carrying case. The Elastic is so tight that it sets off the joystick every time I insert it. I miss the hard plastic cover from my handspring. Palm could have given better protection than that. That's why it gets only 4 stars.

Anyone looking for an up grade from their old PDA would do well to steer in the direction PALM has taken. Top of the line device, though you may want to get a hard shell case to protect it.

Despite Sony's slick Clies banging on their hood, Palm has not exactly been known to be very friendly in the bargain department. The Zire I at its low pricetag was an initiate's machine in the Low-Cost-Low-Features bracket. Surprise surprise -the Zire II, er, Zire 71 not only packs a full punch at 300 US$ but also ups the ante on multimedia handhelds!

THINGS TO NOTE:

1. Comes (finally) with OS 5.2 and its sharp fonts + cool icons/themes.

2. Sleek glossy blue skin

3. A light 5.3 ounces in weight

4. A 320x320 screen sporting 65,000 colors screen

5. An awesome VGA (640x480) digicam, but be prepared for a 1-2 second

delay in shutter click. To its credit though the viewfinder software appears very quickly.

6. A revamped PalmDesktop with a conveniently integrated photo-management module, which makes it a snap not only to load pictures onto your handheld, but also to view, organize, and even e-mail those you've taken with it. Also includes basic image-editing features like cropping, rotating, and red-eye reduction.

7. And the AudiblePlayer that enables you to listen to the huge library of spoken-word content from Audible.com

8. A better handwriting recognizing software Graffiti 2

9. A joystick type navigation "nipplehead"

10. Out of the box MP3 support (RealOne Mobile Player)

11. Above all, a snazzy "Kinoma Producer" software to produce movies specifically for your handheld, in 4 easy steps

CAVEATS:

1. No bluetooth (not that I'd need or use it but would have been cool. HP 5455 has both WiFi and BT!)

2. No With all this multimedia doohickey, a voice recorder wasn't much to throw in

3. Only a 16 MB of ram, kinda low for a device with this target market

4. Lack of a good screen cover

5. Digicam pics may be a little slow to save to memory

IN SUMMARY:

Despite the few minor grouses, a great offering from the Palm camp for entertainment junkies packing in mp3 player, audible player, movie player, camera and an Clie/iPaq type screen. May not be a great reason to upgrade if you already have a PDA, but if you are in the market for a new one, this is a superb buy.

Just bought this Palm for a significant person in my life. Had the opportunity to prep it. The bright color screen is beautiful, and using the built-in camera can't get any easier. The screen feels a little slippery, and Graffiti 2, which still requires you to memorize some weird shorthands, takes some getting used to for people new to Graffiti and also old-time Palm users.

Overall I'm still impressed with Palm's simplicity and speed. And I appreciate the ability to sync with Outlook, using an included third-party app.

But I'm very disappointed in the way Palm implements multimedia functions. In this area, the Pocket PC is way simpler. Let me expound.

To play audio files (only MP3 and RealAudio are supported), you MUST purchase a secure digital expansion card. Of course, given the Zire 71 only has 13MB of user memory, you wouldn't fit too many MP3 songs in the internal RAM anyway if you could. But, still, it would have been nice to be able to carry two favorite songs with me without the SD memory. And had Palm chosen to license Microsoft's WMA technology, we could get the same sound quality at half the file size as standard MP3.

So you need to purchase an SD card, and then install RealOne Player from the 2nd companion CD. The choice of RealOne is not a blessing, because Real's software is totally invasive, even more so than Microsoft's. And copying MP3 files from your Windows desktop to the Zire is a total pain: first you have to create a playlist in RealOne, then specify which files in RealOne to copy, and finally copy. With Pocket PC, I just use Windows Explorer to go to the My Music directory on the Pocket PC, and then drag-and-drop MP3 and WMA files. (On the Mac, you'd use Hotsync, which makes it easier than on Windows. It puzzles me why Palm chose not to implement the same technique on Windows.)

To play video files, you'd need to install both the Kinoma Player and Quick Time. Then, each time you want to copy a file to the Zire, you must use Kinoma to convert the source file (AVI, MPEG and MOV are supported), a time-consuming process. This is true on both Windows and Mac. If you have a fast P4 the process is not as painful, but still it's totally unnecessary. Again, on the PPC, I just drop-and-drop video files into the My Documents folder (or a subfolder) and voila.

So if you are buying the Zire 71 for multimedia functionalities, hold off your purchase and wait until Palm improves this area. If you are buying it for snapping pictures, go for it.

I just recieved a Palm Zire 71 as a birthday present. Previously I carried a "little black book" of names, addresses, email, phone numbers, etc.. Every few years it would fall apart from being carried everywhere. I planned on buying a bottom of the line PDA to replace my address book when my darling wife suprised me with the Zire 71.

First the good, the screen looks great! It's bright, colorful, and contrasty. My coworkers with older color Palm PDA's all covet it. I'm going to put lots of pictures of my daughter in my PDA and use it for my brag book instead of carrying a bunch of pictures in my wallet. The handwriting recognition is ok but what I like about it is that I can enter the data on my PC then sync it with the PDA. I entered hundreds of entries from my address book in a few hours (quicker than I could have copied them to another address book!). I've been going through game withdrawal ever since giving up my Nokia cell phone with snake (my top game was over 1,100). I downloaded Tetris on my PDA which is a lot more fun.

Now the bad, 16MB of RAM is a little stingy now that RAM [costs so little]. My first addition will be a memory expansion card. I wish the Zire 71 came with everything to play MP3's. As it stands I'd rather buy a [] MP3 player than buy the card for this and then have multiple cards to keep track of. I don't know why the other reviewers consider the built in camera to be good. When you see the pictures on the 320x320 screen they are already downsampled; when you see them at full resolution on a computer screen they look awful; downsampling them to 320x240 doesn't make them look much better. Even the cheapest and worst digital camers takes better pictures than the little camera in the Zire 71. I like the idea of a digital camera in a PDA but as poor as this one is I think they should skipped it and made it a little cheaper or upgraded something else on it.

In sum, this is a great little unit but do budget for a memory expansion and don't get your hopes up too much for its camera.

as well as the hotsyncing with xp.

The hotsynching although frustrating is dealable. I mainly only have trouble when I am trying to hotsync something that is online. Offline problems are less common, but then again most of my hotsyncing has been online so I am not sure how it would be offline.

My biggest problem is the battery life. I was told the battery is not replaceable. I think that sucks considering the price of something like this. Cell phones and gametoys are another thing their battery life may be short too but as far as phones go every year or two most companies give u an upgrade anyway (before battery totally dies)

Palms can be used everyday and the more on it (cameras, mp3, games etc) you use it even more and longer amount of time. Who wants to worry about the battery totally dying on you in a year. Palms are are like computers you get a new one and you have tons of info you have to reprogram and that is a major pain. Who wants to be forced to buy a whole new computer every year. I have had my palm for less than a year and battery life is getting bad. I have to do a overnight recharge everytime I look at it. (I am afraid to turn it on anymore so when I do happen to turn it on it battery is half gone) I dont use the camera much nor the mp3 player. I probably would use them alot if it wasnt for the battery. And like another reviewer said about this thing accidently turning on this thing is probably on a lot more than I think it is causing my lower battery life.
