Polaroid P-500IR Digital Photo Printer
- Portable digital photo printer
- Compatible with all digital cameras using CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards
- Lightweight and compact
- Print one image at a time or multiple copies
- Automatically resizes JPEG files from any digital camera
Buy Polaroid P-500IR Digital Photo Printer Now
For the price, size and quality its more novelty than serious printer, but its a good sort of novelty.Pictures are small, but are on par with any other polaroid style camera. Good for scrapbooking, or checking images off LCD for digicams etc.
I bought mine in the hope it'd work with my P800 cell phones infrared, it didn't. Works fine with my nikon coolpix though.
The manual in mine says shoulderstrap included, however on the box it says it isn't,and it wasn't, not really a big deal though.
Haven't had a chance to see how easy it is to pickup film yet, but given its compatible with the joycam it should be reasonable easy.
The interface is ok, its a little terse but once you see where they were going its perfectly acceptable.
Prints come out fast, take a little while to appear.

Counting the rebate, and the included 10-photo film pack, you can't beat the price!Keep in mind:
Actual picture size is approx. 2.8 x 2.1 inches (tiny)
Printing cost is around 90 cents per little photo. Typical of Polaroid.
The colors on mine are a little red-shifted
Other than that, it is a great little photo printer. Perfect for kids.
Didn't experience any paper jams (yet).
Want Polaroid P-500IR Digital Photo Printer Discount?
After a day of taking digital photos, I always have to rush home and print them. Now that slight problem is being solved with instant printers! With Polaroid's brand name and cheap price on this printer, I had to get it and try it.And wow, I'm impressed. This package comes with everything you need to get started! Even an extra adapter and film so you can print right out of the box. The setup is easy and the instructions are made so you can stick it on the printer if you forget. What's great is that the printer accepts BOTH CF and SM cards. Now you can give photos away to people and they will be surprised at how you printed them so fast and because the picture source is from a digital camera you can select what photos you wanted printed and how many times.
The quality of the photos are superb just like those instant Polaroids everyone used to have, this prints a smaller rectangular verison with the photo about the size of a credit card; great wallet prints! The coloring of the film however seems to be a bit more on the magenta side if you dont have long-distance flash. Other than that, the printer itself requires no batteries and has a convenient strap so you can carry it everywhere you go. The printer is shaped nicely you can hold in your hand and the weight is light enough to carry with your digital camera.
I would definitely recommend getting this product! You can't find a better deal with the rebate offer! The P-500IR is a stand-alone printer that outputs digital images onto P-500 Joycam instant film. It's "stand-alone" in that it doesn't have any direct connectivity to a computer, and it takes images from CompactFlash or SmartMedia cards (the latter requiring an included adapter). Since there is no preview screen on the unit (the thing runs on the embedded P500 film pack battery, so you only need to feed the thing film), you have to kinda guess which photo you're about to print. I've been taking the somewhat roundabout route of dumping the files from my digital camera onto the hard drive, tweaking and cropping with Photoshop, and then copying select files onto a CF card, which then is inserted into the P-500IR to be printed.
Output quality is pretty good, considering that it's instant film. The image size is pretty small, but it does create some unique "hard" artefacts of digital images. I think this printer would have been a questionable investment at its original price; however, with the discount, I suspect the folks at Polaroid are going to get their money back (and then some) on the film! The five stars are given specifically for the discounted price. This printer is a "must have" gadget at that price!

Hi-Capacity AC-C14 Adapter for Compaq Armada, EVO, Presario & HP Pavilion ( HP Pavilion dv1000 d
Take care, hope you give this review a good rating.
Sam "fully charged" Kochel Bought item 4 months ago and is already broken. Would definately NOT reccommend!! BEWARE!! I honestly cannot tell the difference between this adapter and the original that came with our computer. We had to buy a replacement when our puppy thought it would be nice to chew through the old one. In fact, this adapter might even be better, seeing as the pup hasn't even had a lick at this cord!!! I'm assuming that other people have other laptops in the V2000 series. This product does NOT fit into my HP V2000 laptop. I'm off to the HP website to buy the real replacement part since I'll know it works.

BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack)
It came in way too much packaging, but I appreciated the small touches that made me feel that this is a higher-end product. There was a lint-removing cloth, a small card to guide application, and of course, very clear and easy to understand instructions.
I actually installed mine in a steamed-up bathroom to minimize dust contamination, but the fact that the adhesive on the protector is actually "renewable" with a little water made me feel a lot more relaxed if ever I messed up the application.
It cuts down glare especially from natural daylight, is extremely resistant to scratches, and does not interfere with stylus sensistivity. And the fact that it is a perfect fit is a huge plus. I am completely satisfied with it and is a good investment to prolong the life of your PDA.
Buy BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack) Now
This is an exceptional screen protector. On the Internet forum AXIMSITE. COM, it is suggested that one install screen protectors in a bathroom steamed up by a running shower in order to minimize dust. This is a good idea. I live in a dusty place and found canned air was inadequate. After what I thought was a clean enough screen surface I was astonished at the amount of dust I trapped. If you fail to rid the process of dust applying this protector, every tiny speck will be visible afterwards, glaring blemishes. For those people who are worried about getting one shield for this price, that is NO REASON to discount this screen cover. I have used other products with renewable adhesives like this and have always been pleasantly surprised by this technology (wish I would have invented it!). I did not like the way that I put it on the first time so I took it off (try using adhesive tape at an edge--and you may as well remove a nano-thin edge from the bottom to make the installation a little easier). Run water over both the front and back of the screen cover, any dust or lint will go down the drain, then shake off the extra droplets--all but a few on the back. Those little droplets actually make it a little easier to apply, and if I had realized it, I would have done it deliberately the first time. I used one of my SD cards to squeegee it, along with a soft cloth. Now, a small confession... when I ordered the product I thought that I was ordering the crystal clear screen shield and nearly sent it back. I decided to try the anti-glare screen since I had it in hand, and I hardly notice it is there. The only reason why I really seem to notice it is that I work with a light coming from behind and that produces glare, no end. Now, GLARE GONE.
I will never, ever order the cheaper screen covers. I have used them and removed them. They are just not worth the money for this Axim's beautiful screen.*
*UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW: This was originally written in 2007. By then, I had already been using it for at least a year. It is now the middle of November of 2009. This screen protector is as good on my Dell Axim X51V as the first day it was ever put on. Even I never imagined that it would last this long. I have never had to remove it after the original application, when I removed a speck of dust under running water. I think that this is as good as it gets for screen protectors for a PDA that has seen far more than its share of abuse during all those years.
Want BoxWave Dell Axim X51v ClearTouch Anti-Glare Screen Protector (Single Pack) Discount?
This is a very helpfull screen protector... it really protects the screen from glares and scratches. Its pretty simple, but I had some problems installing it to my Dell Axim x51, since the screen protector is much more bigger than the screen, so you must "force" it in order to make it perfectly fit, or you could also try to cut the screen protector so it could fit without having to use the "brute force".It does it work, though, for such a cheap price, but sorry I can't give it a 5 stars, since the installation could be a little bit hard because of its size... which could cause the glue it has to get lost and leave bubbles on the corners of the screen, which happened to mine.

rooCASE 3n1 Flex Gel TPU (Clear) Wave Case / Capacitive Stylus / Screen Protector for Apple iPad 2 W
- Perfect Fitting Flex Gel TPU Case. (iPad 2 Not Included)
- Durable, Form-Fitted Skin Protects Against Bumps and Scratches. iPad 2 is Fully Functional Inside the Case.
- rooCASE Ultra Responsive Capacitive Stylus: Weights: 0.4oz Length: 114mm, 3.5mm Audio Jack Attachment.
- Screen Protector Kit that Attaches Smoothly with Self-Adhering Surface While Leaving No Residue when Removed
- A MUST Have for all Apple iPad 2 Owners!!
On the other hand, the gel skin is nice and cushy, goes on easily, and even stretches over a SmartCover hinge. As advertised, all the functions work just fine with the skin on. The skin doesn't feel tacky, but seems quite a bit less slippery than the stock iPad 2 back which seems to whisper "I just can't wait to slide off something onto a really hard floor and break!" The capacitive stylus is nice too; it's got a little plug that slips into the headphone jack for storage. Linewidth was similar to a Sharpie when I tried it with the Penultimate app.

CE Compass USB Wireless 2.4G Optical Hand-Held Mouse Mice W/ Trackball for Windows XP Vista Win7 Mac
PROS:
Nice product and really affordable.
Nice quality but not astonishing.
Its comfortable when held on your hand with the trackball, not that mush when used as a table mouse.
It helps if you suffer from wrist pain (mine went away).
Easier to get use to, a lot easier than regular trackballs.
Wireless reaches up to 9 feet which is useful for presentations.
CONS:
During charge the batt area gets hot. (not dangerous hot but you can notice it).
The trackball doesn't work that well on every position, usually upwards (like the picture) its the best position to use it.
The position of the scroll wheel is not the best but you could live with it.
Overall rate: 8used because i injured my arm and worked great ... easy installation and long battery life ...need to put door on bottom lense can cause problem if u block it w/ finger while using in the upright position.I got this product to help with wrist and finger discomfort. It seems like it is helping.
My biggest complaint is the tail end, seems to be unnecessary and a bit awkward. When on the desktop, it interferes with the fluid natural mouse motion we are used to with standard mice and because I have relatively small hands, it does not sit well in my hand and I feel like it would fit better without the tail piece.
Overall, it seems to work well. I wish the trackball would also work well during desktop use, I imagine if it were seated tighter it could. Though I think part of the "smart" tech in it uses the seating of the ball to determine when to use the optics vs the ball.
UPDATE: as time went on, I had an issue with the cursor moving on its own when not in use. I actually discontinued use and opted for a different model that doesn't have the tabletop feature and more buttons.

Good product at a great price!

rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Grey Graphite) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Mo
Original Review:
It is much better than the Motorola case in many aspects, but I found the following problems that irritated me enough to return it and try another slim leather case sold on amazon. Slim.
The velco that hold the xoom in the smaller leather case (the one that goes into the big case) is not strong/sticky enough. After about 30 seconds of use the whole xoom slides down enough to cover the bottom buttons on the screen. After about 5 minutes of use the xoom simply slides down. Luckily I was sitting the bed and mine didn't break due to the fall. Tried carrying the xoom without the inner leather case and it just bounced around a lot. If the velcro was stronger, I would have probably kept it and overlooked some of the other minor dislikes.
The side leather covering is too wide, it covers right up to the edge of the screen, which is prefect for protection, but when I am using the browser in full screen mode and want to invoke the "Quick Controls" it makes it a little difficult.
The flap that props case up at 45 degrees is not strong enough, it bows under weight of the case + Xoom and sometimes flip shut, dropping the case flat.
The velcro at the back of the inner case (circular patches) are strong, a little too big and awkward against the fingers, specially if you want to use it as a reader.
It is rather bulky. Probably because it is built with good quality leather and good quality zipper, etc, that adds considerable bulk to the whole thing. If you want to enjoy th slimness of the Xoom, not the right case. Some people like the protection on a $600 or $800 item, some people prefer the skinniness of the Xoom, to each their own.
On the plus side:
The case is built well and if you are going to carry only your xoom, a few business cards, a pen (or stylus) and 2 sheets of paper, it is great. Protects the screen very well. Though I don't know if it is TSA approved. I have a neoprene case that I have been using prior to this one and I don't have to take the Xoom out of the neoprene to go through airport security. Not sure if the leather one would be allowed.
The leather, zipper switching of highest quality I have seen on any case
The color quality is great.
The xoom can be placed at all 4 angles 0/90/180/360 such that for charging I can just open a slit on the zipper.
Definitely worth the price.I will keep it short and sweet..
Positives
* Great Leather Case
* Fit the Xoom Really Well
* Not Bulky at all
* Good buy for the $$
Cons
* The Grey is professional, but a black case would be nice.
I highly recommend this case and have already told my business associates about it.Let me first say that overall I'm pleased with the case overall, it fits very well and looks great with east access to all ports and when its sealed in hits binder youbwouldnt know its anything more than a notepad.
I am a little frustrated with a few things.
First (my fault for not reading more carefully) the pictures looked black or at least a darker grey. I would much prefer the back version and may even order it seperately.
Second I don't know if it needs to be broken in but like many other reviews for other Xoom cases the Xoom doesn't seem to slide far enough in. For the most part thus isn't a big deal but it does partially obscure the front facing camera at times.
Finally I have to remove the case to put in on my Motorola dock, but I think this is true for any case so far except the terrible Motorola portfolio.I had purchased another case which I've since returned (no problems here)This case is the best, excellent quality, professionally designed, very eye catching.I was looking for a red one which seems to be unavailable, but now I really like the grey one.

M-EDGE Trench Runner Grey Messenger Bag for iPad/ Samsung Galaxy Tab/ Motorola Xoom - MEIPD3TRGY
- Made from durable weathered cotton canvas and genuine leather trim with brass hardware
- Two compartments perfectly fit the iPad in any M-Edge jacket (sold separately)
- Includes two outer pockets for cell phone and accessory storage, as well as two internal pen loops and two credit card slots
- Adjustable and removable shoulder strap
- Available in original US Military olive drab green and German grey
This is the item I ordered, yet it has the model #PD2-TR-C-620 on the case. At first I thought it was the seller, but after contacting both the seller and the manufacturer M-Edge, I found that they didn't change the 1.5"x 3" label on the case. It DOES work with my iPad 3 just fine and I am very happy with the case. So do not expect to see PD3-TRJ-C-GY on the case.
I rate this case a 4 because it is a good solid case, yet it isn't perfect. I would have liked to have had magnetic on and off or some other features, but I went with aesthetic looks over functionality. Oh it does function just as M-Edge states on their website, but I would suggest obtaining a screen protector like the Moshi iVisor Screen Protector XT Crystal Clear for The New iPad, no bubbles, and very clear. The case is sturdy and it does look pretty neat with the button/buckles and it only takes a few tries to easily learn to switch it from landscape to portrait.
Below is my original review, I was upset and thought I had been had, that is not the case and I have come back here to set the record straight. Don't you wish everyone would do that?
my original review:
"I am rating this 2 stars because even though this is a good case, this is NOT what I ordered. This is a PD2-TR-C-620 NOT the PD3-TRJ-C-GY for the iPad 3. The Amazon site clearly states this is the PD3, not the PD2.
I cannot state that all the different sellers are selling the wrong product, though be aware that it is likely that like me you will receive the iPad 2 version, not the iPad 3 version. There are some differences and the iPad 3, I remember reading that the clasps are easier to manage on the iPad 3 version, on the iPad 3 version they are VERY tough to unclasp.
This is something that seems to be a common problem right now, companies selling iPad 2 cases as iPad 3 cases. I am talking to the seller now and hopefully will resolve this in my favor, rather than having to pay shipping for what is in my opinion, false advertising."

Mini Itx Tower Black
- 12
Building the nettop with this case was pretty straightfoward. The case cover comes off easily with three screws (since replace with thumbscrews) and once removed the case itself is still pretty rigid. I didn't find any sharp edges inside so thankfully no blood was drawn in this build. The motherboard fit easily inside without removing the PSU which is nice. There are four permanent standoffs on the bottom. The front connections were well labelled so it was a matter of following the motherboard instructions to get everything hooked up. Suprisingly, there's actually some extra room inside to route wires and such so cable management is very possible. Installing the HDD was easy although once installed it sits right over the PSU, power cable, SATA and IDE connectors which means everything has to be routed around the end of the HDD. Be sure to hook those up first. Installing the ODD was a lot more painful because it requires endless experimentation with where the ODD sits to get the drive door button to work and for the drive tray to not stick. It need to be nearly perfect. The trick is to leave the screws loose, hook up the power and then keep pressing the door button and moving the drive until it works. Even with that, the drive tray sticks on the door every 1 out of 4 times.
Once built and turned on, the PSU and exhaust fan noise is pretty noticeable but not annoying. It hums along at a nice frequency that's not too hard on the ears. The thin metallic body however acts as an echo chamber. This is by no means a silent case and there is no sound deadening. It's just thin metal that transmit sound and vibration. For a little 150W PSU, the included PSU cranks out quite a bit of heat. I wish it was an 80+ PSU. I have no idea how efficient it is. I plan to get a Kill-A-Watt meter to see just how it fares. The parts are all very low draw so hopefully the PSU is not defeating the whole purpose. I really want the power draw here to be very low.
Overall, for the money and the ability to use desktop parts instead of notebook parts, this case makes for a nice mini-ITX build.
Gigabyte GA-D525TUD dual-core Atom 1.8GHz mini-ITX motherboard
Kingston 1 x 2GB DDR3 1066 RAM
WD 400GB HDD
LiteOn IDE ODD
Rosewill PCI wireless N
Ubuntu 10.04I really like this case a lot. I thought there was plenty of room for my needs. However, if you are using the DVD drive in it, it could become very cramped very quickly. I'm using an external blu-ray player for when I need it so I thought there was plenty of room inside. The computer stays cool and has good circulation. The supplied 80mm case fan is a tad on the loud side and I replaced it with another, silent fan (this is why I gave it 4 stars). Cable management can get tricky quickly.
I would recommend this case to anybody who would like a small build (such as for a HTPC). I would recommend not using the 5.25" bay, but it looks like it would be possible if you needed to. Also the supplied 80mm fan is a tad on the loud side. Overall, a good looking case and fit my needs.

TASCAM TMST1 Condenser Microphone - Cardioid
- Built-in 1/8" stereo output cable
- Switchable from 90 to 120 degree pickup
- Tabletop stand and windscreen included
- Excellent mono compatibility
- AA battery included
I recorded the same CD song with each of the three mics and I also recorded with the Tascam mic using both the 90 degree and 120 degree cardiod settings. I've concluded that the Tascam did not produce a very warm sound, sounded "tinny" and seemed to be lacking in it's ability to reproduce a good, deep, bass response. In general I prefered the built in Eridol mics over this which to me defeated the purpose of buying the Tascam mic in the first place. The Edirol R-09 built in mics produced a nicer bass response in the recordings (perhaps a bit too much bass but at least I can adjust the levels when transfering or listening). In general, the TASCAM TM-ST1 120 degree degree mic recording sounded better and much fuller than the 90 degree setting -however this may not work for me as I prefer a minimal amount of crowd noise from crowds off to the side and behind me(I probably need to consider purchasing a 6-8 foot mic stand). Based on this initial test, I'm afraid that this mic probably will not live up to my expectatons at the going price of $65-$70 and may be better suited for recording discussions.
The mic is attractive and the mic base and lower casing is made of a good, heavy grade of metal -after you remove the casing to put in your battery you notice that there's not much to this mic. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to test this mic in the setting originally intended and report back with an update.

Tascam TM-ST1 Stereo Microphone This mic does a good job in recording Stereo on my PC & Canon FS-10 camcorder. I am impressed by the left/right seperation & center channel. No problem with noise from camcorder issuse as I HAVE heard from another reviewer. You have to play with it a while & then you will get great results with it.With the Ashampoo Music 3 I get great sounds from such a low cost stereo mic.Read Best Reviews of TASCAM TMST1 Condenser Microphone - Cardioid Here
Great microphone. I bought it to capture radio-quality audio in the field with my DR-07. In a pinch, I've even recorded commercial voice-overs at home and transferred the files quickly and easily with no one knowing the difference between using this mic or the $300+ EV's we use at the studio.Good use of my money. It'll do the job for you, too.
Want TASCAM TMST1 Condenser Microphone - Cardioid Discount?
Great mic for the money. Used it to record my daughter's band concert. Much improved sound over my camcorder's mic.I first used this microphone in a Church to record a song being sung live in memory of my aunt. The recording was outstanding. The microphone does a wonderful job of picking up the highs and lows with excellent clarity and no distortion. The heavily weighted vertical stand does well on level or near level situations. In my case, I laid it on a piece of cloth on the seat beside me with the wind cover in place. This is necessary because the microphone is very sensitive and should be placed so that it cannot be touched or disturbed by extraneous vibrations. In addition, I have recorded several book readings (which was what it was initially intended for), and have been very pleased with the tonality of the recorded playback. This microphone is the perfect addition to the Tascam field recorder and will satisfy probably 90% plus of any user's needs. I highly recommend it.

Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 PDA
- Linux/Java-powered handheld computer with 64 MB RAM, 206 Mhz Intel processor
- High-resolution color reflective TFT screen with support for over 65,000 colors
- Integrated QWERTY keyboard that slides out from bottom of handheld
- Listen to MP3 or watch MPEG video; includes stereo headphone jack
- Zaurus SL-5500, EA-70 AC Adaptor, Docking Station (USB), AC Adapter and Power Cord, Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery, Stylus
The Zaurus's fast CPU, high quality full-color LCD, and excellent headphone sound output makes for an impressive photo viewer, MP3 and MOD music player, and video-clip displayer.
The slide-out keyboard has completely weaned me from using the handwriting system, which is unfortunate, because a lot of work was obviously put into it. Not only does the handwriting system have a help mode where you can practice strokes, but you can actually train it new, or alternate strokes for each character. But when you can type so quickly, why bother writing?
The dual expansion slots are great, allowing me to use an SD card for software installation, and still have my CF slot free for a RAM card full of MP3s or a network adapter.
Honestly, I was impressed by the capabilities of the Java system. In my opinion, Java has always been too slow and cumbersome to use, and the thought of running it on a 206MHz PDA seemed ridiculous. But from what I've seen of Java applications (even games!) running on the Zaurus, I'm beginning to realize there's a lot of potential in Java.
As a desktop Linux user, I'm also tickled to have the power and stability of my favorite OS underneath the hood. For the extremely geeky, you can get Java, C and C++ compilers that run ON the Zaurus!
The "Qtopia" environment and applications are as intuitive as they are nice to look at. The PIM applications have all the functionality I'm used to from my Palm device, and then some.
Until I can afford a wireless modem to stick in one of my Zaurus' two expansion slots, I've been using a Compact Flash ethernet dongle to get online while watching TV.
After using offline browsers on the Palm, I was shocked to find a full-fledge, desktop-quality browser built right into my Zaurus: Opera.
Opera's zoom-out feature can't be lived without. Frustratingly, most websites assume you have a screen capable of at least 800x600. On a small PDA screen, this would mean constantly scrolling left and right as you try to read. Under Opera, you can zoom out to get a better overview of the page, and still be able to read all of the text!
I've only used the Sync software (Qtopiadesktop I used the Linux version) a few times, since my pattern for PDA usage is to use them as stand-alone devices. It was quite intuitive, though, as it looked and felt just like a larger version of the PIM software built-into the Zaurus.
Finally, while there's obviously very little 3rd party software for the Zaurus so far, since it just came out, there's been what seems to be exponential growth. I've already installed almost 20 new applications, including games, a streaming Internet radio player, and an embedded version of the popular Linux browser, "Konqueror."
Software installation is usually a snap, too. Just as with Palm, all that's usually needed is one file downloaded off a website. Run the graphical installer, wait a few seconds, and the new app. is there, ready to run!
All in all, it's a great system. Powerful and slick hardware, in a beautiful form-factor, running powerful and slick software.

First and foremost, if you are looking for purely Personal Information Management (PIM) functions and not generally inclined towards Linux, then do yourself a favor and buy yourself a Palm Pilot. The Zaurus is basically a mini Linux workstation with a lot of functionality you would normally find only on a desktop. With the Zaurus, you can:
* Browse the web with a scalable and full featured browser
* Read and edit MS-Office documents (Word, Excel and Powepoint)
* Write and execute scripts and programs (including Java)
* Play music and video
* Control your desktop Windows PC (using VNC software)
It is so powerful that you can actually use it as a Web or file server (using Apache and Samba). I use my Zaurus to administrate my Linux server and Oracle database server when I am away from my desk.
Plus there are tons of applications, utilities, games, etc., that you can download. Zaurus has a very active user community forum (check the links from the Sharp Zaurus official web sites) where you can get a lot of useful tips from.
Having said all that, the PIM functions that came with the Zaurus were pretty poor compared with the Palm Pilot. This lead me to hang on to my Palm Vx for dear life. I even took the drastic step of downloading and installing a Palm Pilot emulator (called QPose) onto my Zaurus. The performance hit on the Zaurus was so bad that I had to delete QPose and instead carry both my Palm Vx and Zaurus with me.
However, now that Sharp has released a new ROM (v3.10, as of May 15, 2003, see below) the PIM functions have vastly improved. So much that I am now inclined to keep my Palm at home and take only the Zaurus along.
Upon getting your Zaurus, do yourself a favor and install the terminal and file manager applications that come in the CD. The terminal application enables you to do a lot of tweaking and is mandatory if you plan to use the Zaurus to its full capabilty. It actually comes with a basic Linux shell environment and comes with such neat utilities as vi editor, ftp and telnet clients, ping, and a large number of Linux/Unix tools.
Another application I found very useful is called "rotation". It enables you to rotate the application screens by 90 degrees, making such things as web browsing, file editing and using the terminal appication a lot more pleasing and functional. You can download the "qpe-rotation" and "qt-embedded-rotation" files (ipks) from the ZaurusSoft website.
Also, an important suggestion to existing SL-5500 users:
Sharp has just released the latest ROM (v3.10, May 15, 2003) which makes the SL-5500 look and behave like the newer SL-5600. I *strongly urge* SL-5500 users with the old ROM (v2.38) to download and install this new ROM. The user interface with the new ROM is a lot cleaner and neater and has more stable applications (including a vastly improved Opera browser and much better PIM applications).

I've been trying to use the Zaurus for the last week or so. The product has turned out to be a mixed blessing. The Good:
1) This is without a doubt the ultimate programmer's PDA.
2) You can write code, compile, and execute on the Zaurus (hard to believe but it's true).
3) There is quite a bit of good free software, including neocalc, which is a great calculator.
4) Amazon.com had a stellar deal on it.
5) Contrary to some of the reviews I've seen, the screen is very nice looking.
The not so good:
1) The software to sync with a PC (Win2K in this case) stinks. It crashes, hangs, intermittently refuses to connect, and requires special knowledge not included in the manual to get it to work. I've tried both Intellisync and Qtopia Desktop. Intellisync appears to be a hopeless basket case, but I was able to get Qtopia Desktop to work as long as I didn't have too many files on my CF (too many files causes a nasty crash on the PC side). Too bad I need to sync with Outlook.
2) I've managed to fry a 128Meg SD Flash by leaving it in during a hard reset of the Zaurus. That shouldn't happen, but it did.
3) The Hancom Suite (MS compatible Word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation viewer) is weak but usable.
4) The battery life is short (especially with a Wireless LAN adapter).
5) The MP3 software wouldn't play any of my variable bit rate files. I don't believe there is anything terribly unusual about them (other than they have been encoded using LAME).
6) The MP1 video is very slow and choppy at Video CD bit rates (like ~1 frame/sec). I've found it difficult to get a bit rate the works well for me when trying to take full advantage of the screen resolution. Perhaps the DiVX decoder that is being developed will solve this problem.
Even with these serious problems, I'd still consider it a great tool for a programmer and will give it 4 stars. For non-programmer types, I'd give it 1 star.

I just received mine two days ago and after 'playing' with it I can tell you that it's an extremely powerful PDA. Im not a Linux user nor do I know Java. I simply needed a quick way to input data because I'm in grad school. It took about 15 minutes to get used to the keyboard, but after that I was away.It comes with a Word application that is compatible with MS Word. So while on the bus I was able to work on my research and simply sync it back to my main document on my PC.
Also I purchased a wireless network card because my dorm is wired and Im able to surf the Internet at blazing speeds. I even cut and pasted a Map into my Word application with no problems!
Truly this is a great little 'computer' and the price is good. I look forward to more applications in the future..This review is with reference to the Zaurus SL-5500 along with the Linksys wireless CF card
First the pros...
(1) Screen is very easy to see and the colors are just gorgeous.
(2) Sound via the headphones is outstanding.
(3) Auto scaling of images is impressive.
(4) The web browser scaling is very good and the text is readable even at it's smallest setting.
(5) Keyboard is quite comfortable and I find myself using it more than handwriting.
(6) Transfer from Palm is very easy just beam the entire category over and it takes care of the rest.
(7) Availability of software is quite good... have ssh, wap browser amd mysql running on it. Download the command tool and you get your hands on all the standard UNIX utilities, including tar, grep and vi.
Now the cons:
(1) More memory would certainly help. Given that this thing has a built in mp3 player and a mpeg player 64MB of usable memory would be good. Of the 64, only 32 is really available.
(2) I would have prefered a regular Type II PCMCIA slot over the CF slot, but then again this is a pet peeve of mine.
(3) The built in PIM applications do need some work.
Overall impression... It's a really nice piece of engineering. The fact that it has a built in keyboard without sacrificing screen estate in my view makes it stand out from the Handspring, CE and Palm devices. That coupled with Linux makes it a winning combination in my book.
