Samsill Microsoft 17.3-Inch Neoprene Laptop Sleeve (Black) (39512)
- Microsoft Neoprene sleeves are designed to protect your laptop
- Holds laptops with up to 17.3" screens.
- Thick neoprene material with molded EVA Cushion Cell lining, and trimmed with trendy orange accents.
- Designed to comply with TSA guidelines.
- This lightweight bag is water-resistant.
- Double zippers and carrying handles make it convenient and easy to use.
I gave this item a five star rating because it does what it is designed to do, protect that expensive laptop computer. The only negative I can state is the web strapping does not do a complete wrap around. The one inch width on the bottom is not reinforced. Other that that I could not fault the item for the minor design flaw based on my opinion.
I do recommend this sleeve to anyone in need of protection for a laptop or other expensive items.

This sleeve just barely covers my new 17.3" laptop. It is a tight fit and doesn't allow for peripherals, but I have a tote I use for my power cord, mouse, and extra items. I got this mainly to protect the laptop. It's well made and a good value.Read Best Reviews of Samsill Microsoft 17.3-Inch Neoprene Laptop Sleeve (Black) (39512) Here

Researched and even bought a few other sleeves from other websites but this one was perfect. My Mac 17" fits perfectly and the width is roomy enough for charger and wireless mouse. Only wish that it came in other colors. This is a near perfect bag, and I'm even able to squeeze my power cord into it (a little tight, but it's in)! I wish I wasn't advertising Microsoft (or any vendor), but it wasn't easy to find a neoprene bag with handles. It fits the bill.Monday, September 8, 2014

My initial review was wrong. Turns out it was a driver problem. Follow this link for most excellent instructions for installing the right drivers. Many thanks to John, KN3XU. DO NOT download the drivers from the supplied disk or let Windows automatically install the drivers. I used the CHIRP daily build software to program the radio. I'm going to try the VIP software too.If you have not subscribed to to Yahoo Users Group for the Baofeng UV-5R do so and save yourself some aggrevation. Since the cable works I'll upgrade my rating to 4 stars just because of everything I had to go thru to get it to work.
73's
Could not get this cable to work. I used three different computers using three different operating systems (XP, Vista, & Win 7) to no avail. My Baofeng UV-5R is build 297 which is the latest as of the date of this review as far as I know. Supposedly this cord uses a bogus chipset that the current Prolific drivers do not like. Going to look on the Yahoo users group for the UV-5R to see what folks there recommend.A lot better than trying to use the manual entry system to program the Baofeng UV-5R radio by manual input

Marware Vibe Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Purple
Pros
-Looks nice, didn't realize it from the pictures, but there's a faux wood texture to the cover. I like it, it also seems to help with the table grip. The colors are very deep as well. Orange is... very orange.
-Fits SNUG. The bracket that holds your precious grabs with very little, but it GRABS TIGHT. It's possibly more difficult to get out than the last case. I recommend the technique in the manual, my first attempt wasn't working.
-Leans at any angle. Just like the last you can adjust the angle of the screen to your heart's content. The bending and creasing is a non-issue if you undo the snap. It's engineered to only crease in one spot and sits on a non-slip surface inside the cover. Takes some considerable table shake for it to slip.
-Build quality seems identical to the last so it ought to be quite DURABLE. I drop things... alot... usually on cement, so I was quite pleased with the last case, and looking forward to being pleased with this one.
Cons
No inside cover strap like the last one had. Admittedly though, the 8.9" is pretty huge in hand and I fairly sure it would've been awkward anyways.
POSSIBLE CON: The bracket is made of hard plastic, my concern is if I drop it, is that corner going to shatter. For me that's not if, but when I'll drop it. The last case had leather over metal(?) and has saved me many a times. I'll keep you posted.
I'm not too concerned though, the plastic is one of those fancy resins ("One word: Plastics!") that feels kinda like metal, and besides, if you were making a protective case for an expensive electronic, I think the first thing you would test would be dropping it. Maybe I'd be concerned if it was a new company, but they've been around the block before.
So until I drop this and break the plastic corner (which I'm just not willing to do on purpose for you fine folks), an awkward handstrap is small price to pay for a vastly improved price.
5 STARS.
Feel free to comment with questions and I'll try to answer them. I will not however respond to you if you're just complaining about how I mentioned price. Quality/Price = Value.
EDIT:
Hot Dog, I just noticed it wakes my kindle when I open the case. This MARWARE VIBE STANDING CASE for the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD tablet is a great no-nonsense case. The case is thin enough to be comfortable to hold in your hands, but thick enough to provide some protection from other objects that you might be carrying in a bag, pack, or tote. The case has the feel of leather (it isn't), and part of the front cover has a nice textured vertical-line pattern that resembles raw silk.
The case has an automatic sleep/wake feature that turns the tablet on or off when you open or close the cover. For this feature to work, you must insert the tablet with the on/off button at the top and the camera on the left, at the center of the case. (When the tablet turns on, you must swipe the "unlock" ribbon, or the tablet will turn off again.) A narrow elastic band holds the cover closed as needed.
This case holds the weighty 8.9" Kindle Fire HD tablet securely in a hard interior frame. Once you click the tablet into the frame, it won't dislodge easily (although you can pop the tablet out of the frame fairly easily if you need to). The hard frame snaps onto the back cover. If you need to use the tablet in portrait orientation (say for reading), the front cover folds back easily, and the snap holds the frame and tablet securely.
For landscape orientation, you unsnap the snap, fold back the back cover, and move the frame forward to your choice of viewing angles. A rubbery lining on the inside of the front cover grabs and holds the frame surprisingly well at whatever angle is most comfortable for you. The tablet won't want to fall flat unless you pick an angle that places the edge of the frame less than 2" from the edge of the front cover.
I really like the shallow viewing angles that are possible when this case is used in landscape orientation. I actually like this case better than the more expensive Marware Revolve Portrait and Landscape Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9", which has a padded leather cover and rotating interior frame. This case is less bulky, and I don't need much padding because my big Kindle Fire HD tablet is mostly a stay-at-home. If all you want is a sleeve, then you might consider the rooCASE Super Bubble Neoprene Sleeve Case Cover for Apple iPads, which fits the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD tablet (without any case) very well.
Buy Marware Vibe Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Purple Now
Ordered this item in red and it is very close to "fire engine" red. The case clips onto the Fire HD with very little bulk, just attaching with clips at each of the four corners. Still, it holds the tablet well and doesn't feel flimsy at all. I had a similar Marware case for my original Fire, and never had an issue with the fastener system. The finish is very nice and clean, with very little odor to the materials. This case is designed to crease along the back cover when using it as a stand. It does not come pre-creased, so using it will put a bend into the clean back surface. That's unavoidable, unless you never use the stand. To use the stand, you snap loose the brace (there's a snap closure) and bend the back cover to your desired angle. The friction of rear of the Kindle on the rubbery lining holds it in place. Contrary to another review, I had no problem getting the Fire to stay at any angle for viewing. It doesn't slip as long as you pop the snap and bend the back cover as designed.
Overall, it's a very sharp looking case that works exactly as it's supposed to.

One of the best features of the new Fire is the auto on/off feature that responds to opening and closing the case. With this particular model, unlike the "official", Kindle-branded one (and presumably other), the feature only works when the Kindle is placed upside down in the case (i.e. the camera is on the bottom of the device). I presume this is done to keep the HDMI/charging ports accessible, but the Kindle-branded case achieves the same end by flipping having the cover flip over the top rather than sliding the Kindle out from beneath. In addition, the case completely blocks the speakers -a condition rendered even worse with the cover OPEN as it covers them twice. This, versus the Amazon case (and a few others) with dedicated slots for the speakers. Finally, the case feels cheap and is far thicker than the Kindle-branded one. I know it sounds like I'm raving about the Kindle-branded case and I am. In fact, I just returned my Marware purchase and am buying the Kindle-branded one.Want Marware Vibe Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Purple Discount?
Owners of the new Kindle Fire HD 8.9" series are lucky, because never before have there been such an array of choices in cases and holders, not even when the original Kindle Fire was first released. We have choices in features, styles and prices, and some of these are evolved and improved designs from earlier versions. For this user, the Marware Vibe Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9" in black was an easy choice based on past experience. This is an evolved product from their earlier Marware Vibe Case Cover with Stand for the 1st generation Kindle Fire, and that product has held up quite well over time. When that earlier version was purchased, I wasn't looking for stylishness as much as pure functionality in a case or cover, as style can often obscure solid functionality and protection of the device. This new version for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" series shows that it's already proving to be a good choice. But first here are the subjective pro and con points, then the observations as an owner.
Pros:
+ Four-point mounting system; holds the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" securely, no flimsy little elastic straps
+ Non-slip pad on interior of front lid; allows for a wide array of viewing angles
+ Adjusts easily to a rational and comfortable typing and viewing positions
+ Ports: easy access to charging and HDMI ports while inside case, even closed
+ Cover offers good protection for the screen; easy to clean
+ Elastic strap; holds the cover closed without interference
Cons:
No hand strap for one-handed use as available on other Marware models
Observations:
The four-point mounting system on this case not only holds the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablets securely without the flimsy little elastic straps found in some cases, it allows the device to snaps into place and doesn't mar the surface, as I've found in previous models from other companies. The power switch, the HDMI and USB Micro-B charging port and headphone jack are not obstructed, as we find with some other cases that are not certified as "Made for Kindle" accessories.
What makes this cover stand out is the wide variety of positions with which it can be used. It can be flipped open to lie flat in either a horizontal or vertical position, or easily adjusted to an angled viewing position, which is excellent for viewing videos and movies, along with photo slide shows. A slight adjustment in that variable horizontal position makes it easy for typing for extended periods when answering emails, or exploring Facebook, LinkedIn and other sites. It can be angled almost any way that you might like.
That being said, the more costly Marware Revolve Portrait and Landscape Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9" may be a better choice for some users. It has a similar mounting system and is a leather case that revolves around the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" a full 90° so you can read, type or watch it in the horizontal or vertical position. It also has an interior hand strap for one-handed use, a strong plus point.
Summary:
The Marware Vibe Standing Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9" was an easy choice based on past experience with a very similar model for the original Kindle Fire. Other than lacking a hand strap for one-handed use, this model is subjectively one of the best choices currently available in mid-priced cases and holders. It's a solid 4-star product, and can easily be recommended for owners of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" series.

I ordered 5 Tripp Lite (my son ordered them for me), and I gave away 4, and left with only one. I believe having Tripp Lite is a necessity more than "I want that" item. The built quality is great, and it comes with a USB cable, just in case if your devices need it.The advantages are numerous, one is having 3 output connectors for your gadgets and 2 USBs, especially when traveling and staying at Hotels or even at home. Most of the time you are faced with few wall outlets, and at the wrong places.
In addition, you are faced with a problem because you have a laptop, a digital camera, a camcorder, battery charger, cellular phone and maybe MP3 player.
with all that, you have to have something portable that can sneak in your backpack, etc.
I have used Tripp Lite Traveler3USB Surge suppressor for more than 2 months now, and it works great.
I used it to charge my Iphone, and to connect my netbook, my kids laptop, Sony PSP and Nintendo DS.
I am ordering 5 more of Tripp Lite to give them as gifts to family and friends.I lost my Apple Ipad charger on a trip, but luckily had this with me and it did the trick.
There are other power strips and surge protectors with usb ports out there, but many will not charge an Ipad. This will.
Also it appears well made and well designed. The size is small enough to not be a burden.
I just bought a second one and decided to do the review.
Want Tripp Lite TRAVELER3USB Notebook Surge Protector USB Charger 3 Outlet 540 Joule Discount?
This is a good unit. You can tell it is made well when it has a 14awg line to plug it in, versus the 16 or 18 that cheaper units would have. The two USB plugs are handy, though it would be preferable if they were on the side with two plugs. The specs for this unit are good, for example the let through voltage is superior to competin products. I'm not sure if they spec their joule rating as total, with each line pair protected only to 1/3 of that level the way Belkin does it, or something else.Regardless, this is a nice item. Wish it came in white though.
July 2011 update:
After traveling with this unit, a blackberry and an iPhone, I'm a bit disappointed. When I plug either one in, it works fine. When I plug both in, my blackberry will charge, but my iPhone will cycle through a few charge attempts and then claim inability to charge with the accessory and stop.
I'm not sure if the two sockets are paralleled, and thus want different voltages or current levels than the unit van provide, if the unit is just current limited, or what. It's a great little unit, but I have to take it from five stars to three because an item of this caliber should be able to charge two smartphones at once.
I'm going to report this to Tripp lite and report back.If you're reading this review, chances are you know most USB ports on surge protectors won't power an iPad. Well, this one does!!! It can charge your iPad, Android smartphone and Mac Air, all at the same time. And the design really is smart. The chord wraps all the way around the surge protector so it stows away neat for travel. Look no further, at $15 this is a frickin' steal. See my picture to see everything plugged in and happily charging. The only other thing I need to charge on a regular basis is my Kindle, but that only needs to happen once every month or so. And it uses the same charging cord as the Droid, making one less thing to carry.

PalmOne VIIx Wireless Handheld
- 8 MB RAM, 4 times the memory of the standard Palm VII handheld
- Stores thousands of addresses, appointments, to-do items, and memos
- What's in the box: Palm VIIx, Stylus pen, AC adapter, PC serial port, Hotsync docking cradle, Protective leather cover, Palm Desktop software
Like the other Palms, the VIIx does what it claims, and never complains.
There are two catches, though.
1) wireless applications are a very limited version of the net. There's no built-in web browser that lets you go to any old web page. So unless you install 3rd party programs, you're limited to the 40 bundled destinations (Amazon, AskJeeves, CBS Marketwatch, Fidelity, ...). Surprisingly, there was no built-in wireless phone book.
2) the wireless connection is slow and expensive. The bandwidth is under 9600 baud, and there's a 2-4 second delay between clicking and getting a response.
If you're an information junkie (stock quotes, news, email, eBay--is this you?) you will easily blow through the limited wireless plans...
On the plus side:
1) I was always able to connect to the wireless net (in buildings, in a car, in a park where cell coverage is spotty)
2) The device always did what I expected.
3 stars. I'd give it 5 if the wireless service was cheaper and faster.

Palm VIII don't mean to be critical of my fellow reviewers, but some of the negative reviews of the Palm VII totally miss the point of the thing. I carried one for over a year and found it incredibly useful. Now that I've moved outside of the service area, I miss it a lot. In spite of having the original VII with only 2 Megs of RAM, I never ran out of memory. I also never exceeded the lowest monthly service level, finding it adequate for my needs. Here's what I did and how I used it, which should be enough information for you to make a decision for yourself:
This is truly the traveler's friend: I have no office and I get in a lot of planes. You'll make that dreaded trip to the airline service desk with a lot more confidence if you are armed with the schedule of every single airline and current flight status. The VII knows what flights are schedule between any two points at any time, and provides current flight status. When 'suggesting' to the desk staff that they strongly consider booking you on another airline, your case will be stronger with flight number and departure info.
You can usually find the departure gate information (not to mention delay status) sitting in the shuttle from the parking area (at DFW, you need to know the gate number to tell the taxi which building to stop at). And of course, if you want, you can even make plane reservations online.
If driving over 10 miles, I query for traffic conditions. Embarrassed to ask directions? With the VII, you can enter location and destination and get detailed directions. Handy when stuck in the boonies without a phone. And when was the last time you saw a phone book at a pay phone? The VII can access Yellow and White pages. Weather forecasts, any time, any place.
Ordering a book from Amazon is sort of a parlor trick, but it's also a useful way to research books in print. Can't remember which movies featured Minnie Driver ? There are a 2 movie databases. Faced with a life without wireless, I've had to buy a new PDA with a lot more RAM to carry a German/English dictionary. I actually bought two, but they aren't anywhere near as useful as the online translators, which not only support full sentences, but they translate between multiple languages. English dictionary, thesaurus, and encyclopedia are available also, which again is a big help to somebody without an office.
The Palm VII does all this with the use of 'web clipping' applets that work with special applications on the information provider's web site. There are now hundreds of these things that can be downloaded.
On the downside, this thing is a AAA pig. Get yourself a couple sets of Nimh batteries, and a small charger. More than once, I found myself paying a premium price for new batteries at a hotel gift shop. I also recommend the serial cable if you can't get infrared to work with your laptop--carrying a cradle is a drag.
This is not a platform for heavy-duty web surfing, nor is it a convenient place to send and receive mail, but I really miss not being able to use it any more for all these questions that need to be answered RIGHT NOW. But if you do get stuck without a book, you can download an e-book too.

The Palm VIIx is the worthy successor to the innovative Palm VII which has been available for some time. The VII was the first incarnation of Palm's wireless handheld. It is a great device but I never bought it because of the 2Mb memory constraints on the old VII. However, that has been mitigated with the new VIIx. This puppy includes a whopping 8Mb of memory. Ample for almost any application or usage. The VIIx comes pre-loaded with 40 or so wireless content apps. There are currently about 400 apps for the VII. You can get them for free at [Palm]. They range from bookstores like Amazon to acccessing your email on the go, to messaging, to online dictionairies. I would recommend to visit [Palm] to see the variety available and also if your area is covered by the mobile network.
I have a Fidelity trading account so I can use the VIIx to trade or view my portfolio. One of the most popular apps is the Starbucks locator. I wonder if there is a correlation between owning a VII and cafeine consumption. Another great app is MapQuest, and ThinAirMail lets you access any POP3 email account. Both are included standard.
The wireless response time is great. This is because of the way that Palm designed there applications as PQA's. PQA stands for Palm Query Application. They make wireless transmission efficient by ensuring that only pertinent data is sent. The way we view web pages, the whole page is loaded every time we view it, this includes a lot of layout and other data that we're not really interested in. PQA's predefine the layout and transmit only actual data. Eg. the price of a book you request from Amazon. The result is fast and efficient response. There are also several apps which let you browse the web in the traditional way, though I don't know why you'd want to. I don't think that the size of PDA screens makes web-browsing very useful or convenient. But, for those who insist...the Palm can definitely do it.
So far I have had no problems with signal quality. Whether on the street on in buildings. I'm in NY, but as mentioned before, don't buy this puppy until you have checked coverage in your area.
The VII series is a bit larger than the III. To me size is very important, I also own a Vx. But I will make an exception for the the VII, because wireless is just so ... cool and convenient. I could also have picked the Omnisky wireless service. Then I'd have to attach a modem to my Vx and the package together would be more bulky than the VII series so I prefer the convenience of having an all-in-one VIIx.
The device is turned on by flipping the antenna. Easy enough. Installation is a breeze. Takes all of 5 minutes and you are going. I recommend the 'all-you-can-eat' subscription. It costs $45/mth but well worth it, but you can also go for one of the more moderate subscriptions. They start a $10/mth.
Wireless is great. Definitely the way of the future. I love being able to pop up my email on the go, check for a movie with moviefone or just read a book, play a game, or read magazines with AvantGo. After all, let's not forget that other than wireless, Palm makes a great PDA with many other applications.
Want PalmOne VIIx Wireless Handheld Discount?
The 8 Mb of memory the VIIx has is what it needed in the first place. Now you can load all of those games and non-wireless apps you had to pass on with the VII. The integration is a little tighter in Palm OS 3.5, but a lot of people won't be happy with this until (1) the screen improves from four shades of gray (yes, I am envious of the IIIc) and (2) the modem speed improves. The Qualcomm PD100 tried to overcome the speed (and coverage issue) but left you holding a Palm to your ear with a screen just too small to read).
And in the meantime, the Palm VII provides an integrated wireless email and fax platform (both with lookup from your address book) which a novice can get out of the box and running in ten minutes or less (try that with a PC).
TIPS: go to palmgear.com and download DPWeb browser (or other browser) and go with the unlimited plan if you can afford it. Then you will be able to access nearly any web site, not just those with web clipping applications.I was one of the first Palm VI owners and was very up beat about my new toy. But now that I have had it for a while, I discontinued my palm.net service as a waste of money. I recommend palm buyers get a non-Internet model and use the great organizer features. The Internet function is VERY slow and subject to poor reception or incomplete downloads. The cost of these downloads is very expensive if you use it enough to make it worth while. The range of material available for Internet download is very limited. And did I say SLOW? A web enabled cell phone would give you both the net and a phone -with cheaper monthly charges and you can both talk and surf with the same device. When you buy the Palm VII you must use palm.net and they are not well priced or customer oriented. A web enabled phone allows you to pick your provider and is always on for a stock alert or other quick message (unlike the palm).
