it takes for ever to come from china they send the wrong disc and then they wanted it back its going to cost you= the same if you keep it or returneit + you have to now chinise to figure it out .

My initial review was wrong. Turns out it was a driver problem. Follow this link for most excellent instructions for installing the right drivers. Many thanks to John, KN3XU. DO NOT download the drivers from the supplied disk or let Windows automatically install the drivers. I used the CHIRP daily build software to program the radio. I'm going to try the VIP software too.

If you have not subscribed to to Yahoo Users Group for the Baofeng UV-5R do so and save yourself some aggrevation. Since the cable works I'll upgrade my rating to 4 stars just because of everything I had to go thru to get it to work.

Could not get this cable to work. I used three different computers using three different operating systems (XP, Vista, & Win 7) to no avail. My Baofeng UV-5R is build 297 which is the latest as of the date of this review as far as I know. Supposedly this cord uses a bogus chipset that the current Prolific drivers do not like. Going to look on the Yahoo users group for the UV-5R to see what folks there recommend.
