This seemed like a really good mouse on paper. It was rechargeable, wireless, had a trackball and scroll wheel and could be used as a corded mouse while charging. Even better, you could use it as a traditional mouse on a pad or in the air to help reduce strain on your right hand. In addition, it was small enough that one could've used it as a portable travel mouse, since it came with a velvet bag.

Unfortunately, none of this matters if the trackball doesn't work. Additionally, the build quality of the remainder of the mouse is poor. Switching between on and off requires either fingernails or some other item, because the switch is recessed in a way that suggests shoddy slave labor. The instructions feature poor english, though you are able to get the basic gist of what it's saying.

I probably would've been willing to overlook the poor build quality and instructions if it actually worked. Thank goodness that Amazon is willing to take this back and refund the cost of the shipping as well.

I hope someone else has better luck with this than me.

If a corded mouse is what you want, this is probably the best you'll get.

Like many Logitech mice, the M500 is ergnomically shaped for comfort and reduced strain/tension. Logitech mice are the most comfortable I have used. You can mouse around for hours with much less strain than when using mice from other manufacturers.

Like Logitech's more recent models, the M500 has a scroll wheel that you can switch between regular scrolling and "hyper scrolling," where you give the wheel a little flick and it scrolls very quickly through huge amounts of data. Once you try this feature, you won't go back to a mouse that doesn't have it.

You can also push the scroll wheel to the left or right for horizontal scrolling.

The M500 also has forward and back buttons within easy reach of the thumb, useful for quickly jumping through website or powerpoint slides.

It is a laser mouse, which is much more precise than the older optical mice. It tracks well on most surfaces I've tried, though of course not on glass (Logitech makes more expensive mice that track well on glass).

There are only two things I'd caution you about before purchasing. First, this mouse is really designed to be used by the right hand only. It's possible to use it with the left hand, but it's not as comfortable, and using the forward/back buttons isn't nearly as practical or easy with the left hand as with the right.

Second, this is a corded mouse. You might prefer cordless. For me, corded mice have advantages: no battery to wear out, no charging cradles, no usb receiver to lose, and I've found that corded mice track better than many cordless mice (though the very newest cordless mice, like Logitech's "Anywhere MX" and "Performance MX" track very, very well).

In summary, if you want a right-handed corded mouse, please give this a try. I've tried many, and this is the only one I'd rate as excellent. It's very very comfortable, it tracks very well, and the hyper-scrolling and other features are very well-thought out and implemented. And it's much cheaper than cordless mice offering the same feature set.

I bought the M500 to replace my G7 which started to have problems left clicking after I dropped it while moving apartments. I got tired of swapping batteries so I decided to go with a corded mouse and so far, I've been very happy with the purchase. The M500 is a bit curvier than the MX and G series of mice, which makes it fit even better underneath my hand. I've never really had any ergonomic issues with Logitech mice, and the M500 keeps up that tradition for me.

The top of the mouse and the left/right buttons are made of a textured plastic and the sides are a rubbery grip. It's a small touch, but it really gives the mouse a quality feel to it.

Both the back and forward buttons are placed on the left side of the mouse, which is my preferred placement. Some mice put the forward button on the right side and I find that my pinky isn't really trained well enough to use the button.

The scroll wheel feels like it's weighted, but it's still very easy to rotate. Below the scroll wheel is a toggle switch that will turn on and off the stepped scrolling in the wheel. When off, you can spin the weighted wheel and let it go on its own momentum for a while. The stepped scrolling mode feels a bit looser than what I'm used to, but it still works great. My only complaint with this mouse is that the looser scrolling causes me to accidentally scroll while I'm pressing the middle button. It really only bothers me when I'm playing first person shooters because sometimes I'll accidentally switch weapons when I click the middle button. The scroll wheel also tilts left and right if you're looking for that functionality.

Pros:

+ Feels as solid as any Logitech mouse that I've ever owned: MX 500, MX 700, and the G7.

+ The curvier design feels a bit more ergonomic to me.

+ Good button placement with back and forward buttons on the left.

+ Wheel tilts left and right for those who are looking for that extra functionality.

+ Scroll wheel has a free spinning mode. I'm not sure what it's good for, but it's kind of fun to spin the wheel and watch it scroll long documents.

Cons:

The scroll wheel is a bit looser than what I'm used to. There's a tiny bit of play in between each click of the wheel. Unfortunately, that little bit of movement is enough to register in games so when you try to middle click in an FPS game, it's very easy to accidentally switch weapons too.

Overall, it's a great mouse for desktop and office use. Gamers would probably be better served by Logitech's many gaming mice though.

I originally had the Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse. I loved the hyper scrolling wheel and the overall feel. But the wireless was a pain because I could never remember to charge the battery and would run out in the middle of the working day. And the wireless was nearly useless to me because my computer is about 5 ft from my keyboard. Mouse reception to the MX Revolution wireless sensor was intermittent unless I plugged the mouse wireless receiver into a USB extension cord.

This product the corded mouse, has the same great feel as the MX revolution, and the same great scroll wheel but without all the nuisances of wireless operation.

The M500 works great as a two-button mouse. But at this price, one would expect its other features to work, too. They don't. If you are not disappointed by this mouse, either your standards are low, or you are paying for a set of features you never use.

Problems:

1. The middle button is so difficult to press that it's practically impossible to use. It's both stiff AND requires a precision 90-degree press to avoid accidentally rocking the wheel, which activates the rightor left-scroll buttons. I assigned the horizontal scroll buttons to cycle through browser tabs, but since I use the middle mouse button to open links in new tabs, I find I'm constantly switching tabs when I'm trying to open them. This problem is so severe that I seriously wondered whether I got a dud. But the next problem makes me doubt that.

2. The "free spinning" wheel is a disaster. It's a good idea executed so badly it should never have seen the light of day. Its low friction means it moves by itself at the slightest disturbance, or sometimes simply at random. You spin it to scroll up a page, then stop it with your finger, but as gently as you might let it go, it will invariably roll back a few lines. This is so annoying that I just leave it turned off. I wonder how it ever made it into the finished product.

3. The forwardmost side button is too far forward. My thumb isn't particularly short and I don't think my grip is unusual either, but I can't hit that button without lifting my hand off the mouse. The second button is right above my thumb, in the perfect place. Why couldn't they have placed the first button behind it, or below my thumb?

4. The software is buggy. The aforementioned browser-specific horizontal scroll button assignments that I set occasionally and at random unbind and revert to the defaults -making this feature unusable as well.

I have never paid so much for a product yet got so little. I do my research before I buy; this mouse received generally good reviews. Yet it barely functions as a three-button mouse, let alone a seven-reprogrammable-button mouse with clever scrolling. I am confused, but not about what I will do next: I will be getting rid of it immediately.

The Logitech MX400 mouse was my all-time favorite: the shape seems to have been made for my hand and every button seems to work just right. I expected the similar looking M500 to satisfy me as much... but no. Some designer decided to put some smooth shiny "wheel covers" on each side of the wheel (to show that it scrolls very fast, I suppose!). Unfortunately, these smooth "wheel covers" do not grab and the scroll left-right function of the wheel is MUCH less enjoyable to use. Even scrolling requires a little more finger accuracy. So, I wish Logitech rolled back the M500 wheel to the MX400 full "rubber" wheel. At the same time, they should rule that their "usability experts" have precedence over their "cutesiness experts". (They could also review my Logitech Harmony 520 remote control number bad: the buttons are suitable for aliens with tiny finger tips shaped like the end of flat blade screwdrivers!)

Added 2012/04/19: I still enjoy my corded MX400. For my laptops, we enjoy light (1-battery) M305's. And since discovering the Logitech Solar Keyboard, I bought 3: I found that the touch was outstanding and that I ended up typing much faster and more accurately. I should write a review of the keyboard at the proper place... Logitech still does a lot of things right!

I haven't used this card too long or extensively, so I can't attest to it's longevity.

I do know that it transfers data pretty quick, has no trouble interfacing with mobile devices or Windows machines, and fits in a standard port, but, well, I expected all of that.

Additionally, when I bought it, BlueProton had some excellent deals packaging it with other cards or readers.

When I bought this card, I also bought a 4GB PNY card at a local vendor, because it was on sale and I figured it would be handy to have a name-brand backup. Between the cards, the only difference I noticed was that the EasyStore actually reads as having 3.68GB of space, while the PNY had 3.78GB.

But, hey, it's a memory card, what more could you want from it?

Works great and has fast data transfer. Holds a lot too. I just wish it came with an adapter for a regular SD card. I bought a 2GB that came with one so I can use that, but I could also just get a mini card USB reader. Just make sure your item is SDHC compatible before you buy it.

rooCASE Super Bubble Neoprene (Red / Black) Sleeve Case for Apple MacBook Air MC965LL/A MC966LL/A MC

Nice design design, good zipper, excellent padding but very, very loose fit for my new 13" MacBook Air. About 1" slack is left on height and width of this case. MBAir slops around inside it too much. This extra inch also makes it just a little too big to slip comfortably into my backpack or small briefcase, so zeros-out the advantage of the thin profile of the MB Air.

This might be a very good fit for the thicker MacBook Pro, but not the firm fit I want for my MBAir. I'll return it. I have an old slipcase for my 1st generation MBAir that fits new one just right. I'll use that old slip case while I shop around for a better fit. Good quality but I took off two stars for poor fit.

This is a great product for the Macbook Pro, but too large for the Air. Don't get it for the Air, get a specific one or your laptop will move a lot and the chance of breaking will increase.

I have been considering the Slingbox for quite some time. I decided to go ahead and buy one when Sling Media came out with this new model.

Installation was an absolute breeze. It was so easy I was shocked! I was watching DirecTV/TIVO on my PC within 5 minutes of opening the box. I have broadband internet which is quite fast. Full screen viewing on my 20" 16:10 screen is somewhat grainy and blurry, but definitely viewable. I prefer to use about 1/3 of my screen for the viewer (SplingPlayer) and the other 2/3 for other applications. Nice sharp picture quality with this set-up! Surfing the web while watching TV is no problem. Web pages still load quickly and video is still sharp/smooth. Haven't tried to download a large file while viewing yet.

SlingPlayer is great! Choose full screen, left/right side, or adjust as you see fit. When you choose left or right side your internet browser (or whatever application you are running) will snap into place to cover the rest of your screen automatically. Very nice user interface and many skins to choose from.

No matter where you are, as long as you have an internet connection, you can watch your TV. I have Tivo which makes this device shine! I can watch my directv, watch anything that is recorded on TIVO, order pay-per-view, set up a program to record. Basically you can do anything that you can normally do with your DVR. The on screen remote control even looks identical to the real remote.

How is it different from the original Slingbox? I can't speak from actual experience since I don't own the original, but as far as the specs go there are some pros and cons.

The original Slingbox had a coax input. So you can hook up directly to analog cable or antennae. You can't do this with the SlingBox AV, but you can with the new SlingBox Tuner. The SlingBox Pro will do both analog and digital (and component HDTV).

I won't miss the analog coax connection, I don't need it. If you need analog coax only then buy the SlingBox tuner. If you need both coax and digital devices then buy the SlingBox Pro (which will also give you component HDTV, but no HDMI).

On a final note, this unit is tiny. Much smaller than the original. It's about 1.5"(H) x 3.5"(D) x6.5 (W). Your gonna here some people call this thing ugly in appearance. It's not really that bad and it's so small that it can easily be hidden behind your other components or just pushed toward the back.

I'm a gadget freak and this is the coolest thing I've purchased in a long time!! Just buy one! This would make an awesome gift for anyone interested in computers and TV.

There isn't, honestly, much I can add that you're not seeing in either (well written) spotlight reviews. The Slingbox is, in my opinion, every bit as impressive as its reputation led me to believe it was. There were, however, a few things I labeled as being pretty important though, that I didn't clearly understand going in. I was hoping to just clear those up for any potential customers.

1. The way this works is that Slingbox, basically, hijacks one of your cable boxes. For example, if I was to turn on the TV that my Slingbox was set up on, it's going to display whatever I'm watching. If I lived alone, this wouldn't be a big deal; but between everyone else in my house, I can't completely monopolize a TV. What I did was just attach the Slingbox to my basement TV, which they never use.

2. A connection to your home network is required. I had mistakenly thought it was optional, that you were hooking SlingBox directly to your PC (like other tuner models). Make sure you have some kind of an access point to connect to. If I was to wish for anything, I would have loved if this model came with some kind of a built-in wireless card. It would have been one less piece of equipment I had to buy.

3. Mac software is now available for download. I know a lot of us were waiting ... now the wait is over.

4. Streaming video is a monster on your internet hook-up's bandwidth, just be prepared for the slow-down if you have a lot of internet-ready devices (notebook, xBox live maybe, etc etc) running all the time. If your system has some mileage on the tires, this might be a good excuse to consider upgrading it a little bit.

Other then that, as I said, this is every bit as good as advertised. Enjoy it!

Installation on a normal home network setup is very easy. My setup was a little more complex due to voip router, and 2nd wireless router. Sling has instructions on their web site but I still had to mess around with my settings in order to get it to work. To work on multiple routers you have to do port forwarding on both routers to port 5001. Once I worked this out everything is great.

Video quality is good in the house, haven't tried it from another location. I'm running the Sling AV with Netgear Ethernet power adaptors to my router and then watching TV via wireless to my laptop. Now we can watch TV in any room of the house. My wife loves being able to watch the news in the morning while in the kitchen. She also loves being able to surf while having a show running in a small window on the side.

Control of my Dish DVR is very good. We can manage any feature of our Satelite/DVR box. This will come in handy when we travel as we have our sons Seaseme Street shows on the DVR and now we can take those with us on the road.

Overall, I'm pleased with the Sling AV. It offers good performance at a great price point. Now Sling just needs to get the Mac version out so I can watch TV on my beautiful 15.4 inch Mac Book Pro.

Bought the Slingbox AV last week, took about 15 minutes to get it working on my home network. Got good quality video even on wireless with WAP enabled. Works great from my office as well. Great product overall, the only thing you need to aware of is that the slingplayer mobile is not included. If you want to watch on your PDA device, it will need to be purchased separately.

Bought this so my stepson, a college student, could watch TV downstate without having to pay cable fees. Works nicely. We tested and used it while in Las Vegas and the box was in Maine -no problem. It took calling the company to get it set up properly. They were cordial, efficient and effective. Had it running after 10 minutes online with the service tech. Kind of wish I had bought the one that allows more than one user at a time. Be sure you are getting the one that you want relative to the number of people who can watch at a given time.

I have purchased these cases for my last 2 devices. My LG G2X and now my SGS3. They are of superior quality. The stitching is strong, and the phones fit perfectly...even with a gel case. They attach to the belt snuggly and leave no fear of detachment. This is important to me as I ride my motorcycle for my daily commute.

I attempted to "cheap out" with another case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VOM0R4, and it worked for the excruciatingly long time this product takes to ship. Huge problem with that product is it had a metal "rivet" where the snap was on the front of the case. Jagged metal edges protruded to the inside of the case where the phone is held. Not good. I used a piece of duct tape to cover it while I used it awaiting this case.

Secure on belt and the magnetic clasp and strap that hold the phone in.

Expensive (you get what you pay for in this instance)

I have had My Axim for a couple of months now and I have put it through its marks. I comes out on top in everything. Dell has thought of it all when it comes to this very handsome PocketPc. I was very impressed when I turned it on and went to the internet and it set its self up for my wifi network. I thought that was going to me a nightmare and it turned out to be a dream. It works like a dream on the internet too. I can use it anyplace and that makes it easy to keep up on my email.

It keeps my life in order with all the software that comes with it and there is so much to add if you need to. The free stuff is endless on the web.

It plays and stores my MP3s like the best MP3 player. I can watch the latest movies on it while waiting to see the doctor or play great games to keep my mind busy while waiting for that doctor who seems to be takeing forever, but I don't mind I have my Axim X30.

I can never find a piece of paper while out to take down an address or a note about something I don't want to forget and my Axim does that too. It takes notes and saves them with ease. Don't feel like writing? Well just press a button and speak your notes or anything else. You won't need one of those little tape recorders ever again. Throw away your Day Runner. You won't need it ever again. This stores all that and more.

I just can't list everything it can do because I would be writing forever but with software there isn't much it can't do. On the lighter side you can even use it for a flashlight or a mirror to check your lipstick!!

I have had many Palms and PocketPcs and I have liked them all but none can come close to this one. It's by far one of the very BEST there is out there. Its super fast too. You can add tons of memory with SD memory cards and they are so small.

I really could fill up allot more pages just listing the things this little package can do but I think you get the picture. They say that "Big things come in little packages". I think they wrote that just for the Dell Axim X30

I loved my Axim X-30 high. Didn't know how I'd ever lived without one. Read books, watched movies, checked my e-mail on the go ... wonderful! However, after owning it for a year and six months (thus out of warranty), I turned it on one morning to be greeting by a solid, white screen. Hard and soft reset had no effect. Switching batteries didn't help.

Then I discovered that Dell charges you $39 just to TALK to someone who can initiate the repair process on an out-of-warranty item. There's no place to take it or send it in. You have to go through the phone number that charges you up front before you can even talk to someone about repairs. That just doesn't seem right to me, and I'm disappointed at how soon my Axim (which was very well cared for and never dropped or roughly handled) stopped working. Complaints to customer service just get me canned responses.

This would be a wonderful device if you never needed technical support, or if they offered it in English. I have yet, in numerous calls to Dell, to speak to someone who can understand ordinary English sentences or speak without a heavy middle eastern accent. As I write, I'm on hold for the seventh time in the same call. I have been passed back and forth all morning. Everyone is "sorry" for the inconvenience. All I want to know is the secret technique to replace the backup battery without taking the unit out of service and mailing it to Dell. This question has sent them into an endless loop of confusion. I started with technical support who sent me to parts who sent me to customer service who sent me to parts who sent me to technical support. Now I'm on hold.

Buy one of these time-saving devices and you, too, can be sorry for the inconvenience. UPDATE: tech support just came on with the news: if your backup battery needs replacement, unless your device is still under warranty, just throw the unit away! It is no longer supported! Sorry for the inconvenience!

The Dell Axim X30 624 Mhz was released in 2004. It still has a lot going for it; it's sleek, compact, and attractive, it's got Bluetooth and WiFi, and a 624 Mhz processor (the fastest processor available then). But I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy this outdated model, especially since the price listed here for a brand new unit is higher than what it retailed for in 2004. It uses Windows Mobile 2003 (WM v4), which isn't supported by MS anymore. The current version of Windows Mobile is 6.1.

Additionally, Dell has discontinued the Axim X30 since 2007. You will have trouble getting support from Dell if you run into any problems.

But complaints about it being outdated aside, the Dell Axim X30 has a few significant problems with it:

1) A problem commonly reported is the backup battery going bad or burning out. There is no way to replace it unless you want to venture into cracking the case open and soldering the right kind of battery on.

2) A lot of users, like myself, have the problem with the built-in storage spontaneously disappearing. The PPC doesn't "see" the drive anymore; it's like it doesn't even exist.

3) Activesync frequently fails to sync some task and calendar items.

4) Pathetic battery life. I can squeeze about 2.5 hours from the battery it comes with and that's with Bluetooth ans WiFi turned off and the screem dimmed down.

5) On my X30, the power/data connector completely broke loose.

I would advise you to pass this up.

I'm a bit of a tech aficionado. If there is a bit of tech out there that will make life easier, I'll probably end up with it. Maybe not right away, but eventually I'll have to get my hands on it. See how it works. See if it helps.

All that to say: I really appreciate it when a piece of tech just works right out of the box, with little effort on my part. Makes life easier, and no headaches.

This Amped Smart Access Point is one such animal. Lotta help, with little effort.

Our wireless router is in the basement, two floors from where I typically do my writing. The wireless coverage is good enough, but there have definitely been instances where I wished for better coverage on the second floor. Getting a wireless access point was something I had thought about in the past, but hadn't yet gotten around to. Then I saw this item in the Vine catalog. Had to try it out.

In the room that I write in, I also had a wired switch to connect other appliances to the Internet. So when I realized this AP300 had four wired connection ports in addition to the wireless, I knew exactly what I'd do with it. I just swapped it for the wired switch.

And it was literally no more than that. I unplugged the switch and all the Ethernet cables, plugged in the Amped machine and those same cables, and wha-laa, everything worked as before, and my wireless service was better. The only thing I had to consult the manual for was the wireless password. That's it!

As an additional test, I checked the wireless coverage on our outside patio. I hoped at some point to be able to surf with my laptop or e-reader while lounging outside. This access point gives me about a bar or two better reception outdoors than the wireless router alone. (I never checked before. I just assumed since I live in a brick house that it wouldn't work. It would, but now it will work for a much wider area.)

So, overall, life made easier, and with little hassle. The AP300 is a big winner in my book!

I just received the Amped Wireless Access Point and within 5 minutes was up an running on my iPas and a Windows 7 PC. I had a problem with my Windows XP machine but after speaking with customer service (which answered my phone call within 2 minutes-no wait time) was shown how to configure the device to include XP as well. All three now work very well and the signal strength at the far end of my house is much stronger than my previous Trendnet Access Point.

I opened the box, I attached it to my modem/router and it worked!

Frontier installed a new modem/wireless router (which was a waste of resources because my five year old modem had worked just fine, the problem was with their service.) Anyway it made my current wireless router redundant-in fact one tech insisted I disconnect it which I did because I was being ultra-cooperative in an effort to get something done. This however resulted in a loss of signal to one office in a distant part of the building.

The access point restored signal strength to the computer in the distant office and I can now in fact sit in the parking lot and pick up an adequate signal. The lot is approximately 105 feet deep and I have a wireless signal on all of it through wood, plaster, brick and all.

I have an HP g7 1326dx that I just got a few months ago. This unit fares very favorably and despite some of the things noted below, I'd choose this one over that one. The Acer is noticably snappier, the display is better looking and the USB 3.0 port seals the deal. Integrated bluetooth 4.0-HS is a great added value that the 1326dx doesn't have, 4.0 or otherwise. That dang dongle is just about a deal breaker though. For what it is worth, the Windows score for the HP is 4.5 and the Acer is 4.3. HP's graphics drag it way down and the processor drags the Acer down.

The touch pad has no left/right buttons so that is something to get used to. The bottom part of the pad tilts down for clicks. I've found right clicking to be a challenge. Put your finger pad on the edge of the hard plastic and use your finger tip for right clicks.

Left clicks that need to be held, like Chrome's back button being held to see history, requires use of the bottom left click as opposed to a tap and hold anywhere.

The keyboard is part of the ventilation system so it cannot be covered with a protector if you like to use those.

The display is really crisp.

Although it doesn't come with a restore disk, you can make one. It offers to do that when you boot up the first time. Mine said I'd need 5 DVDs (~15 gig) but I reckon you could cut it down with higher capacity disks. If you don't have any pick some up so you can burn your restore image right off the bat.

Battery life is okay. I played some mp3s for about 2 hours before the battery gave out. Far short of the 4 hour mark but running the built in speakers non-stop isn't what you'd do anyway on battery power alone. I was just curious to see how long the battery would last. The 1326dx has much better battery life but it has 6 cells and weighs a little over a pound more.

There is one USB 3.0 port and two 2.0 ports. It is hard to believe that the price difference in the two types of ports is the reason for not having all three be version 3.0. It is backwards compatable with 2.0. The performance difference is huge. I'm guessing it was mostly a marketing decision so folks don't have to know 3.0 is backwards compatable or even what backward compatible means. I ran a some casual tests on the USB ports. Wow! The 3.0 thumb drive is super fast even on the 2.0 ports. I found that copying to the drive on the 3.0 was almost as fast on the 2.0 as the 3.0 port. For testing I used a folder that had a couple of dozen files with a size of about 450MB. The 3.0 was as quick as 28 seconds and the 2.0 was around 35 seconds.

I tested the same folder on my HP's 2.0 port and it took 101 seconds to transfer the folder to the drive.

So a good USB 3.0 drive would be a great purchase to go with your new laptop if you don't have one yet.

All 3 USB ports are on the left side. Something to be aware of for sure. My other laptop has one port on the right side and two on the left which I find to be very convenient. All other ports for the Acer are also on the left side. The right side has only the DVD drive. There is no Lan plug. Nor is there a monitor port. Instead Acer has created a proprietary port that uses a dongle cable for external monitor and RJ-45 cable. I'm on the fence about that as a feature. It means that you have to keep up with the dongle or you won't be able to use a Lan cable or D-plug type monitor. So if you forget or lose the dongle and the location you are at does not have wifi you're up the creek for Internet access. WiFi is built in so that may not be an issue for you at all.

There is a built in HDMI port so you could use that if you didn't have the dongle with you. As long as someone had a handy HDMI cable and a monitor that supported it. Bah.

Amazon has this in the tech details: "500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive Solid-State Drive". Acer lists the drive like that too. According to Hitachi it is a SATA drive. [edit: Nor is it a Hybrid HD. Just a plain old normal HD.]

I really like this laptop. The snappiness seems to be better than the HP, which is a quad-core, and the screen looks better. It is a lot of bang for the buck.

If you will need to do a lot of typing with this laptop's built-in keyboard you may want to rethink your purchase. I noticed that I made more mistakes on this laptop but I assumed it was just my poor typing skills. In the comments Running Rampant asked about that very thing.

I've been using a USB keyboard for a while now. So if that is an option then the no worries.

The other reviewers have given you a lot of the specifics, so I will just focus on the look and feel. This computer is extremely thin and light. I have a 10" notebook that feels heavier than this. It's a very sleek design and looks a lot more expensive than what it costs. If you carry your computer around a lot, you'll be very pleased with the size. The battery is really small, but I have found that it usually last for around 3 3.5 hours, depending on the activity, so it really stands up well. The charging time doesn't take too long either. I like the feel of the keyboard, nothing seems awkward. The touchpad takes a bit of getting used to, but I like it fine. I really like that it came with Windows 7 Premium. I have an Acer notebook that just had Home Basic and I had to pay to upgrade to Premium, so it's awesome that I didn't have to with this one. I also love that they included Word and Excel since I use both of those a lot. The display is very sharp and clear which is great for watching movies. You won't be disappointed with this purchase.

The past 8 years has involved *extensive* travel for me, so I look at technology on the go from a unique perspective as someone who must pack light for crazy situations within the US, usually last minute, for unknown durations, yet needing access to current technology including a fully functional reliable laptop. The Acer Aspire V5-531-4636 15.6-Inch HD Display Laptop (Black) is just that the perfect laptop for today's Road Warrior. The laptop is designed for both work and entertainment in a form fitting feather light weight complete package that runs cool to the touch no more burnt legs from typing that report (or book) while resting in the recliner or in bed.

Easy setup and configuration straight from the box to streaming Netflix in 10 minutes, flat. Wow. IMPRESSIVE smooth HD video! Great digital audio via "virtual surround sound" (per an audiophile!) Not alot of included junk and papers, just the bare minimums without sacrificing anything necessary, also impressive (and saves a few trees!) The viewing angle of the obviously HD screen is good I can readily read the screen or watch a video from a 45 degree angle to the screen.

UPDATE: 29 Nov 2012:

I continue to use this laptop and it continues to perform without any issues other than the battery not staying fully charged as noted in my last update. If you do nothing and leave the laptop plugged in and running, the battery seems to drop to 92% and then just stays at that level unless you power cycle it (see my July update).

I have the full version of Office 2010 loaded on this laptop as well as Visio Pro and everything runs perfectly. I am still pleased with the performance of this laptop and continue to recommend it as an excellent value for an entry level computer.

UPDATE: 27 July 2012:

I have been using this computer constantly now for about two months and it has started to show battery issues. If the computer is left plugged in and turned on for a period of 5 days or more, the battery level indicates that the charge level is starting to drop (around 94 to 95% charge) and states that the battery is not charging. The only way I have found to fix this is to unplug the power supply with the computer turned on and to drain the battery for at least 10 minutes. After that amount of time, you can plug it back in and the battery will start charging again and take it up to 100%. This then seems to hold until you leave it plugged in and turned on for 4 to 5 days. At that point, you need to go through the same process all over again.

This probably would not be an issue if you constantly use the computer on battery and only plug it in to charge it. However, if you are using it as a desktop unit for any amount of time you should pay attention to the charge level on the battery. Experience with other laptops that exhibit this has shown that if you do not pay attention and the charge level continues to drop, you may NOT be able to recharge the battery and will need to buy a replacement! Just something to keep in mind.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I received this product through the Amazon Vine program. This is a light weight 15 inch laptop that is configured as an entertainment, Internet use, and light computing work laptop. The battery is a 4 cell unit that is probably the smallest battery I have ever seen for a laptop. However, it delivers a bit over 3 hours when playing a DVD with the wireless connected to the network. The laptop is very thin, so thin in fact that it cannot support a wired Ethernet connection and resorts to a dongle that provides a video connection and an Ethernet connection (the cable is a Y configuration). This makes for a very light computer. Of course, if you have wireless, the dongle is probably not needed. The wireless on this computer is VERY easy to setup! It also supports all of the current standards. I had no problem connecting to my n-router.

Here are the features of this laptop:

The laptop is configured to deliver the best display for videos. As such, it displays in wide format at 720p and has a screen resolution max of 1366 X 768. Videos look decent as long as they are viewed straight on. Moving up or down and left and right from direct view causes the image to fade and colors to disappear.

The audio is pretty typical of what you would expect from most laptops, tinny sounding at the best and high volume distorts. If you want to watch a movie, I would suggest using headphones! I have a pair of Sony Studio headphones and with those I have more than acceptable audio. This same caveat also applies to music; use either headphones or good powered speakers if you want acceptable audio.

One of the amazing features of this laptop is the fact that the keyboard contains a full 10 key on it. Now, this is not a big deal if you do not work with numbers very much, but it is a great feature if you do a lot of numeric inputs into something like Excel. As long as we are talking about the keyboard functions, I find that the keys are responsive and I have not had any issues with them. I type about 100 WPM and I have a rather heavy hand as I learned to type on a manual typewriter (Ok, I know I am as old as dirt!). So, the fact that there is not any key bounce (double or triple letters on a key stroke) indicates a fairly well made keyboard in my experience. The widescreen format of the display allows for the increased real-estate for the keyboard width to support the full keyboard functions.

The touchpad on this computer is fairly large and includes the normal right and left click positions. This design provides a lot of area for being able to use your fingers to move the cursor, it also provides a wonderful opportunity for frustration as you try to right or left click on something. The reason for the problem is that since the area where you right and left click are also part of the touch pad area, if you do not strike straight down for the function you can wind up moving the cursor to something you did not intend to strike instead of the function that you were looking for. This is NOT my favorite feature of the computer and may be an area where I would adjust to in time. For me, however, this simply means that I connect a wireless mouse to the computer to use instead of the touch pad.

Speaking of using a wireless mouse, this computer only has two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. So, if you normally connect a few devices via USB ports, you are going to need an external port hub. One thing that helps with this limitation is the fact that the computer has built in Blue Tooth so if you have devices that will work with that you do not need to use a USB port.

As long as we are talking about external connections, this computer does have all of the options covered. There is a HDMI port, a combined VGA and LAN port (a supplied Y-cable plugs into a special port and that provides the VGA and LAN connections), a thoughtfully located combined mike/speaker/headphone connection on the left side of the computer right up front, two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port, and the power connection all on the left side of the computer. A two in one card reader, battery charge indicator (orange when charging and blue when charged) and power indicator (blue) is located in front. The DVD drive and Kensington lock location are on the right side of the computer. All in all, a well thought out design that makes it easy to use.

The DVD drive is just that, a DVD drive that will read and write DVDs or CDs. It does NOT read Blue Ray disks so that may limit some of your movie choices.

The battery for this laptop is a very small 4 cell unit. The advantage in this is that the battery adds very little weight to the computer! The disadvantage is that the run time on battery is limited. The company lists a 4 hour battery life and I found that if you are using a DVD to play a movie and have your wireless turned on at the same time that the battery life is about 3 hours and 10 minutes. Long enough to watch a full length movie and then some.

Probably the two biggest limitations of this computer are the processor and the graphics chip. If you go to the Windows Experience Index (on the System Tab) this computer has a 4.3 number which is driven by the processor. The next limitation is graphics with a 4.5 while it surprisingly has a 5.6 gaming graphics listing. Still, the processor limitations will probably limit any gaming that you might be doing on this computer. If you do any picture editing and like making videos out of your pictures, you will find that the processor works well enough although rendering the pan and zoom features makes the playback a bit jerky.

Memory on this computer is delivered with a single 4 Gig memory module with room for a second memory module (the maximum memory the system bios will support is 8 Gig). This is unusual in that they did not put in two smaller and less expensive 2 Gig memory sticks. This allows you to just buy a single 4 Gig memory module to upgrade to the full supported memory maximum. The memory is easy to get at with the need to only remove two Philips screws. Lift the door carefully as there are two plastic snaps that must be overcome to fully open the door. Also, when you go to close it up again apply pressure gradually in the middle of the door as you close it to re-engage the plastic snaps. Then, re-install the two Philips screws and you are done.

This computer comes loaded with Microsoft Office (requires you to purchase a license key to be able to use all of the features) that gives you basic Word and Excel functionality if you do not purchase a license key. This is not trial software so it will not die in 90 days. This may be enough Office software to be adequate for many people.

Other things loaded on the computer include e-bay, Facebook, Netflix, Skype, and Nook for PC. These are all entertainment types of shortcuts. There is a 60 day version of McAfee anti-virus that will hound you to purchase the balance of a year's protection ( personally, I find the free version of anti-virus software from Microsoft (Microsoft Security Essentials) to work extremely well and it eliminates a recurring fee). They have also loaded Window's Live which provides you with several useful programs (including photo editing) that work quite well. Several games and a shopping center for games are included. As usual, there is a lot of software that you will probably wind up removing, but they do provide you with lots of options.

Speaking of options, the browser is preconfigured with BING as the search engine and with the BING tool bar. You will find that if you want to want to use another search engine, you also need to remove the BING tool bar or you will not realize that anything has changed.

All in all, this is a great laptop for the price for someone looking to surf the Internet, watch videos, have a cool looking laptop computer, and that wants to do business type of work (spreadsheets, Word documents, etc.), and e-mail. If you are looking for a gaming computer, a computer that will support intense graphics, or extended run times on battery, this is NOT the computer for you.

This reference is much better than the one that shipped with the computer (too generic as it covered several models of computers).

I would also like to note that while they made it very easy for you to add memory to the computer, they also made it impossible for you to change out the hard drive! If you want to change the hard drive you need to ship it back to the company to have them change it as it is sealed in the unit. Shades of Apple technology here.

I have continued to use the computer extensively and find that it is keeping a very solid 3 hours with Wireless turned on and the DVD player in use. When I turn off wireless (both Blue Tooth and network) and I refrain from using the DVD player, I am getting just under 4 hours.

While this computer is very thin and light weight, I find it a bit large for use on a plane (if you travel in economy class like I do) and a bit bulky. I still prefer to use my 13 inch laptop for that function even though it is not as thin as this one is, it does better with the space on the plane if you plan on working while you fly.

I really love this Acer Aspire notebook. I've had 3 laptops, and I would say this is my favorite. I'm not at all technically inclined, so I can't say much about the technical side, except that 3 of my brothers who are "techi's" tried the Aspire out and all of them really liked it.

My last laptop was a Toshiba satellite, and this notebook makes that laptop seem huge, yet it has the same size screen, and does everything and more than the Toshiba does. None of my other laptops had a webcam or microphone, and this one does, so I can talk and see my relatives that live out of state, which is really cool!

My favorite thing about it is probably the speakers, though. I've always had to use an external speaker with my laptops because the speakers weren't loud enough. These speakers are excellent, and loud! I haven't had to use an external speaker for anything not Netflix, YouTube, iTunes or anything I've listened to.

I'm just a basic computer user using email, facebook, iTunes, Netflix, etc., and I do a lot of online shopping this computer does everything I need it to and more. I also had a chance to deal with the Acer online customer service because something happened to my adapter cord (I suspect my puppy, but don't know for sure). I asked where I could buy a new one, and they sent me one for free! It got here in about 2 days, so I have to say their customer service is also excellent.

The computer has a nice, sleek look, it's very light as well. I honestly can't think of a single con for this one, and I highly recommend it.

RII Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard - Compatible with Apple iPad PC and Mac , Built-in Touchpad Mou

This product has been given to me as a review unit. It arrived about 3 days after it was sent from LaptopMate's warehouse. Took it out of the package, and I was presented with a nice looking green box, similar to Logitech's box design. The bottom of the box tells you about all the features of the keyboard. Upon opening the box, I was presented with the keyboard in its plastic bag, ready to be taken out and used. Under the pull-out tray, you get an instruction manual, and a mini USB cable for charging.

The manual is well-written in English, with minor mistakes that shouldn't confuse too many people. The manual tells you the safety information, instructions on how to use the keyboard, and a small list of troubleshooting instructions in the back.

The keyboard is well-built; the body is sturdy, and doesn't feel like it will fall apart easily. It is lightweight, and feels like only half the weight of a TV remote. On the sides, it has a mini USB port, the laser and its button, the on/off switch, and a slot where the wireless receiver is stored. To use any functions of the keyboard, you must turn it on. I was glad that the keyboard had a built-in rechargeable battery, I'm not a fan of buying a bunch of AAA batteries to operate my gadgets. The laser isn't the strongest, but it fares well for presentation from about 50 feet away. The keyboard also has a white backlight; not too bright, not too dark, perfect for operating your computer in the dark.

Now, onto the top of the keyboard where most things are found. The letters are printed clearly, and the keyboard overall has a good tactile feedback; also, the keys are made of rubber, so it makes typing pretty comfortable. It has 4 LED lights on the top left corner; the first one indicates transmission activity, the second one indicates the battery charging, the third one indicates battery capacity, and the last one indicates caps lock. The top row of the keyboard consists of the F1-F8 keys (the rest are under the Fn of numbers 1-4), and the Backspace key. The Escape key is directly below the LED indicator lights, and the main keyboard pretty much begins from there. This is probably due to sacrifice for compact design, but the bottom row of the alphabets is moved over to the left a little, so you'll have to get used to it to avoid making mistakes. There's an Fn key on the bottom left, it can be used to access additional functions on the keyboard, such as PrtSc, volume and media control, and Ctrl+Alt+Del. The right side of the keyboard is reserved for the touchpad, mouse buttons, and the arrow keys.

I plugged the USB receiver into my laptop (Windows 7 64-bit), and the drivers installed immediately without any actions required. Turned the keyboard on, saw the lights come on, and I was ready to operate. I was surprised at how I could actually hold it in my hands while typing with ease. The touchpad works great for me, and is sensitive just like my laptop. The arrow keypad is a little odd, but I'm sure if I used it more I can get used to it. Pressing the keys is easy, it doesn't require any strength. The keyboard also has an auto sleep feature, where if it is inactive for a long period of time, it will go to sleep, saving a bit of battery (although it is recommended to turn off the keyboard when not in use).

This keyboard is perfect for work and home. It has a range of around 5 meters (~15 feet), so it's good for plugging your computer up to a TV and controlling it from somewhere cozier than your chair. For $30, this is a pretty neat little device. Give it a try! If it breaks, not to worry, LaptopMate has an 18-months warranty, and a good return policy.

PS. This is perfect for controlling my laptop on the TV, in my bed at night! Endless midnight entertainment, here I come! :D

I was very pleased initially with this device to control my home entertainment system computer from my couch and ordered a second one in case the first got damaged. I must be psychic because the day after the new one arrived, the first one was no longer recognized by the laptop. I never turned them on at the same time so they didn't cancel each other out. The first one just died and I felt lucky to have a new spare on hand. But then the new one malfunctioned after only about an hour's use. Is my HP laptop killing these things? I don't think so but I've had it with them. The owner's manual says nothing about any warranty or how to have it repaired. I'm waiting to hear from the Amazon Market vendor and I'm sure he'll say he just ships boxes, not repair anything. These devices seem to be made in China. I've changed my rating from 4 stars to 1 star. It worked great for a very short while, then kaput!

This has worked so great ! I use for my Mac that is hooked up to a tv and you can right click!!!!! I know that does not sound like much but for a Mac it is . Touchpad also is smooth a little small but overall accurate . The battery life is also amazing it turns off while not using and you only have to click any button twice for it to come out of stand by. For 20 bucks it can not be beat, I hope this helps your shopping!

The RII shipped fast and I could not wait to use after reading all of the good reviews. After unpacking it I noticed that the F2 key was not seated properly and I could not depress it. This is a nice durable case for the Acer Iconia. I just wanted to wright a quick review to clarify this case. It definitely allows you to connect the keyboard to the tablet when the tablet is in this case, however this case does not store the keyboard, it only stores/protects the tablet. If you are looking for something that stores both, this is not the case for you. However it appears to be very durable and does provide some support when you have the keyboard attached. It also seems to be cut nicely, all of the plug-ins and the screen are fully functional with this case.

I am extremely pleased with this product. It was far less expensive than other similar products, arrived well ahead of schedule and fits my Iconia W500 very well. The fit and finish is an exceptional quality for the price. Additionally, the inside of the front cover is a suede material so when the cover is folded back and you have your tablet on your lap, it wont slide off. The case is very sturdy and I get so many compliments on it! My only complaint is that the outer groove of the stand is not quite deep enough, so the lower edge of the mini slips. I just use the inner groove and that's great for my purposes.

PalmOne Screen Protector MultiPack P10981U

This product is not up to palmOne standards. I had hoped that screen protectors sold by palmOne would have the best fit and quality, but I was mistaken. First, as the previous reviewer mentioned, the outlines for cutting the protector down to the right size are wrong, and I too had to make my own template first to get the protector to fit up to the edge of the screen.

Next, the material used to make the protector is cheap and unsuitable for covering your screen. It started to show stylus scratches after just one day of use (and I don't push harder than necessary for the digitizer to register). But the worst aspect of these protectors is that they grab and stick to your stylus, making it quite difficult to write smoothly on the screen. If you like to doodle on Notepad or write Graffiti quickly, don't choose these protectors.

They get two stars and not one because I believe they will fulfill their function of protecting my Palm screen. But they definitely won't enhance your palm experience.

First off, I find it ingenious how PalmOne chooses to save money and resources by making each screen protector a large sheet with screen cutout outlines on the back for all the current PalmOne handhelds. So theoretically, how how they can claim it fits all PalmOne handhelds. The problem is that it's difficult to use. The outlines are significantly smaller than the actual screen size, so you have quite a bit of uncovered screen area, which for me traps dust. There are so many lines that eventually curve and cross each other so it's difficult following the right one and if you are successful, you can never get it real straight-looking. Applying the cover is similar to the other adhesives, except for one thing: when I peeled part of the already applied cover to remove a giant air bubble, the adhesive created a row of tiny, tiny, microscopic bubbles on the protector that can't be removed.

My suggestion, if you do purchase this, make an outline of your screeen using pen and paper, then use it as a template. You'll get a better fit. And be sure you aim correctly the first time you apply and scrape scrape scrape all those air bubbles.

UH OH, WHAT I FEARED MIGHT HAPPEN DID INDEED HAPPEN:

My original review expressed the fear that the tight fit of this bag for the late-2010 MacBook Air 13-inch might not provide enough protection should the bag happen to fall and hit its upper corner(s) on the floor. As you can read below, I thought about it and decided that this was very unlikely. Well...

it happened! The bag, with the Air inside it, was sitting on a chair, and tumbled onto the floor. It hit on an upper corner (due to rotation while falling). It damaged the nylon zipper at that corner, and it bent one of the thick corners of the Air inside. OUCH!

Luckily, the Air still works fine, and the zipper still works. If I have time I'll post a video review to show the details visually.

I don't think this is a terrible bag. I still like it. But its one defect did, indeed, help to damage my Air. Sigh.

HERE IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This case looks pretty good! The description of it is extremely accurate. It's a padded, soft-sided carrying case that does what it says it does. Almost.

There's only one criticism I'd make, which is that the best-padded interior pocket only just BARELY fits the late-2010 MacBook Air 13-inch model. (This is the pocket that is shown with the Acer sticking out of it in the product photographs.) As the Air slides in, it seems like a perfect fit, but then you see that the corners are iffy. You have to carefully work on the top left and top right corners to make sure they pop inside and the zipper can close around them; then you can fasten the velcro strap that is designed to hold the laptop secure in the most highly protected position. But then those two top corners are flush up against the zipper as it rounds the corners, and I worry that those corners are not really protected.

NOTE ADDED AFTER REVIEW WAS POSTED: I take it back. The fit is tight, but the chance that the bag would fall in precisely just such a way as to hit the low-protection upper corners, or that it would bang the wall in such a way, is basically zero. So the only deficit is that it takes a few seconds to pop the upper corner inside the zipper. An inconvenience, true, but nothing more, and I've raised the rating from 4 to 5 stars.

A good-quality laptop carrying bag has an interior pocket that is offset somewhat from the outside surface on all four sides, so that if the bag is dropped in any of a number of ways, it's always a padded surface with some empty "give" space that hits the ground first. The laptop is suspended inside the case with a margin all around, and that's true for this bag when it holds an Acer-sized item. But this bag makes the inner suspension compartment so small that the protection disappears along the top, especially the top corners, for the ever-so-slightly larger MacBook Air.

You can instead put the laptop into the main compartment, but then it's loose inside that larger compartment; it can't be held secure by the velcro strap that is designed to hold it away from the edges. And it loses a layer of padding on one face. True, the protective layer you "lose" is still there and protects the OTHER face of the laptop now, but that other face already has an excellent protective layer. So you go from:

well-padded / laptop / well-padded

to:

well-padded / well-padded / laptop

The less-protected face of the laptop now has only the outer shell for protection, which is not as well padded.

This is a bit of a quibble, I know, but I thought I should mention it. It's the sort of thing you can't tell from the otherwise excellent product photographs.

Finally, where's the warranty? The description says it comes with a warranty, but there is no tag on the bag, no piece of paper in the pockets or the packaging, that says anything about a warranty or a website. Another quibble, I know, but usually there's SOMETHING you can file away with your date of purchase in case something goes wrong. Unless there's a SECRET compartment I haven't found yet (grin)...

I love that fact that you can fit so much in this when i travel.....my headphones, ipad, computer and stylis. It has a shoulder strap in addition to the handles. Great Product.

If you are looking at this you probably have a small laptop and want a small case to go along with it. This fits my HP EliteBook 2530p perfectly and has plenty of space to store pens, headphones, papers, etc (I DON'T carry the charger with me, since the 9 cell battery lasts 8+ hours... but I tried and it does fit). I use this every day and my only complaint is after a few weeks the threads on hook-and-loop pad that holds the laptop strap has started to come undone.

It took a month to get since it was from overseas, but well worth it. Nice, clean product, and even came in a very nice box. It also came with a removable belt clip. It fits my Samsung Galaxy 5 like a glove. On that note, it's hard to snap closed because it's so snug. But I expect the leather to soften and stretch in no time, which will allow the snap to close easier.

Pickin's are slim as far as cases go for this particular phone, but this one really came as advertised! People in the U.S. keep in mind it will take a month to get to you, since it's coming from overseas...but they did ship it within 2 days of my order being placed, so the month wait was fine.

This case is very nice and very sturdy. The Galaxy 550 fit in it perfectly, and I feel very confident in the protection it provides. I am really glad I was willing to suck it up for a month because it had to be shipped from Asia. It took less than three weeks to get here, and it is way nicer than anything else I could find locally or online.

Well, guess what... all of these great ideas that pop in your head of what you can do with this card... toss them out the window. The product is so inpractical, that I can honestly say that I've only used it ONCE. Not only do you need to carry around a cat 5 cable around whereever you go, but you also have to lug around that tether thing that's attached to the card. Ugh. It turned my sleek and sexy jornada into a clunker.

I can't actually think of a real-world situation where I would use my jornada instead of a real computer that I had at my disposal (i'm assuming that where there is an ethernet port there are also computers available).

Just maybe, if this were priced around 20-30 bucks, i'd get it, but that probably isn't going to happen anytime in the near future.

As an ending note, I usually never write negative reviews, but this is one of those that I had to write because I didn't want people to get suckered in like I did.

I'm in the military, and they won't let me sync my PocketPC to a computer since it wasn't issued to me. My only option to download books and software is to actually login with my user account. Wireless access would be bad for opsec, so being tethered to a cat5 cable is the only real way to get access.
