  • Ultra Responsive Capacitive Stylus that Works with All Touch Screen

I initially bought this stylus for my HP Touchpad 32GB, but found that it works well, not only on that device but on my phone and my friend's iPad as well! It is very responsive on the phone and Touchpad (without anti-fingerprint screen cover). But even with the anti-fingerprint screen, the stylus still works, you just have to find the right pressure or repeat strokes. For the price, I HIGHLY recommend the rooCASE and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

very good unit which I use on my tablet and kindle fire. Question how long will it last, or can the tip be replaced?

Want rooCASE Capacitive (Black) Stylus for HP TouchPad 9.7-Inch Tablet Discount?

I have tried several types of stylus with several apps on HP Touchpad running CyanogenMod 9 (Android ICS). The other stylus captured 80% of what I was writing (i.e. y wouldn't have loops, part of words missing despite writing whole word, etc.) This stylus captures 100%. I also like the fact that the stylus has a plastic piece that goes in the headphone jack; thus, this connects the stylus to the Touchpad for easy retrieval. My notes are now more reliable with this stylus. I only wish I found this stylus first so I didn't waste money buying the other stylus. You would be very happy with this purchase.

The stylus works great and contributes to the touchpad being even taht much handier. Pick one up, you won't regret it.

I really like it. I had to add velcro to keep my tablet from sliding from side to side. Overall it's a nice product.

Want 9.7 Inch Keyboard (Wired Keyboard) Kick Stand Case For Android Tablet + HSINI Touch Screen Stylus Pe Discount?

For the price, it's a great product and you get a lot of bang for your buck. It didn't matter how long it took to ship and arrive to me because it was so inexpensive. BUT, be careful with your tablet while transporting it in the case because it can slip right out! There isn't a tab on the bottom to hold it, which kinda sux because it's not secure despite being a good fit. Just kinda worth it.

The keyboard didn't completely work. like 5 of the buttons were not opperating. At times they worked but not when I needed them to work wich was when I was going to use it. :(

Dane-Elec my-Ditto Home Network Server, MD-H15001E23S (White)

Dane-Elec my-Ditto Home Network Server, MD-H15001E23S
  • Rapid, peer-to-peer connection
  • The freedom to access a home network through a small, lightweight USB key
  • No-third party remote access fees
  • Files are under lock and key with my Ditto's authenticated, password protected USB keys

I bought this device to replace a desktop machine that I did not want to leave on all the time because of the power it tended to draw. I was also interested in the RAID capabilities, given I had recently had some drive issues with my desktop. It was difficult to find ahead of time how much power this draws.

If you are going to use the RAID mirroring, do it right out of the box (says so in the manual). The user interface is ok, and I did not have any problem with setup. The desktop application (which is not needed for general use) was a bit doggy, but I don't use it much. The desktop UI provides for backup capabilities which I might explore at some point.

I am using the device primary with network shares and like the fact that you can create multiple users, each with their own shares.

The device draws about 17 watts when idling.

It is not a quiet as I hoped, the power supply fan runs all the time. I am going to have to move the device to another location because my office is quiet other than that.

Overall, I am happy with the device, and have only dinged it one star for the power supply noise. It seems to me that they should have been able to use passive cooling, so there would only be the noise from the disks running (like other USB drives I have).

Buy Dane-Elec my-Ditto Home Network Server, MD-H15001E23S (White) Now

March 2011,

I purchased the 4TB unit in Feb. and have used it for about a month.

The product probably should get 5 stars because it's easy to setup and use as described. I'm using Raid1 (2TB mirrored) and counting on the server being a primary backup for our home computers and a remote access for our family away from home. The internal drives are Hitachi which were manufactured in 2009, so half the Hitachi warranty was over when received. My Ditto only has a 1 yr warranty which I consider short.

myDitto is currently working fine and my son's family is using it from MKE as well.

There are some short comings which caused me to give this 4* instead of 5*

1. The unit is shipped with only a quick start guide and you need to download the user manual from the website. […] And the manual is the only place to explain administrative functions. It is also incomplete.

2. Technical support is very weak. The support website is non-functional as I waited 3 days for no response to questions. You will be able to get a slow email response to questions to the contact support url above. There is no support phone number or address, but I obtained this:

DANE-ELEC USA

15770 Laguna Canyon Road, #100

Irvine, California 92618 USA

Phone: (877) 428 2363 (from inside the US) | Phone: +1 949 450 2970

techsupport@dane-memory.com

3. Do not use the Master Key on your first use of myDitto with an Id other than "admin". I did and the unit created a user account which it paired with the Master Key invalidating its use for administrative functions. After several weeks support finally emailed that I needed to create a new Master Key on a virgin USB flash drive. These keys get paired with an ID and cannot changed to a new ID (I didn't try reformatting a key).

4. Admin functions are limited. e.g. you can't limit space usage by users.

5. I've had some Raid errors which I did get fixed using the Raid Fix button in advanced services. But I couldn't get the button to appear once and emails didn't resolve until I cold booted the server. The unit has been solid for over a week.

6. I'm using XP SP3 and can only do a Windows backup to the Public folders. I'd rather do it my private ID folder, but don't have a solution for this yet.

In spite of all this, I like the myDitto unit. It is a good value at Amazon's price. But I don't have 100% confidence in it yet. Only time will tell.

For the past few years I have been using an HP Mediavault NAS for home use. It has been nothing but trouble pretty much from day one so when I had the opportunity to tryout this Ditto I was very excited. All in all the Ditto has not disappointed.

It it much faster than my old Mediavault and at a whopping 1TB holds quite a bit more as well.

Setup was a breeze though the instruction guide included is useless. A quick visit to Ditto's website provided me with the full instruction manual which was very helpful. I copied my files from my HP to the Ditto and now use it to back up all my home computers. The thing is very fast for home use!

I thought the USB keys are a nice touch. I was able to test out this feature and thought it worked well. I can now access my home files easily when away from home. It is very secure as well.

All in all, very happy with this unit. It is a nice compact size that won't take up a lot of room.

The one "negative" I find is that it is quite loud especially when the hard drive is whirling away, but that is more an annoyance than anything else.

UPDATE 6/13/2011 wish I could give it six stars! I recently purchased an iphone and found that I can download a "MyDitto" app to the phone which allows me to access data on the Ditto from anywhere through my phone! Wow! I can now view pictures, stream music, all from anywhere right to my phone. This is quite a great little home NAS!

Want Dane-Elec my-Ditto Home Network Server, MD-H15001E23S (White) Discount?

Bought this a week back to set up a central data repository for my home... and there are Macbook, iPad, android, windows 7 and XP. Lot of photos, movies, mp3s and other files.

Set up:

Easy. I use in Raid-1 mode. The other options are Raid-0 and JBOD Just a Bunch Of Drives ). Hooked the network cable, it found the IP, and ready to go.

Created two accounts. Sharing is easy across user accounts.

Initial data load :

Annoying ! when myDitto client software works, it is fine. But if the myDitto client crashes, it does not remember the list you created for transfer. and now you go and find out what is not backed up and create another list. To keep you in pain, it will ask you to confirm every time it finds a duplicate. No 'skip all' option. What a pain! But once done, things seems to be ok. Client Program helps you to mount myDitto as a drive in your Mac and Windows machines.

IPAD / Android : I can access data from both iPAD & Android. Very easy to configure. You can access even out side your home network. No streaming support for videos. So forget about watching movies unless you are ready to download the complete movie to your iOS or Android device.

Mac / Window 7 / XP : Works well.

Streaming : No streaming support for video. This is another teaser. You can see the video file, but wont be able to play it unless you download as a local copy. So forget watching blueRay or HD movies.

Looks : Above average. Not Jennifer Lopez.

Sound : Some where between smooth Jazz and rock. not horrible.

Overall : Hmm... not perfect. Biggest annoyance is that the client program crashes during the initial, large data load...leaving you search for words those are not in bible. You will search for same words when you come across lack of video streaming support. Otherwise, good product.

Overall, this is a very nice NAS. Its ability to serve files with only a password through the my-Ditto app is a handy feature. I also like the remote access using the USB key, although there is a potential security issue.

I quickly set up the server and copied a bunch of music files over. This NAS seems a bit slower than my NETGEAR ReadyNAS Duo even using the same hard disks (Hitachi 1TB). It might just be my impression since I am so used to the ReadyNAS. I later decided to install another 1TB HDD and configured the my-Ditto as RAID 1. This wiped out all the data unfortunately. I did expect it to do that. Still it took a long time to format the disks and configure for RAID operation. Once operational, copying files is still sluggish and it takes time for mirrored images to appear.

A feature of the ReadyNAS I often use is the automatic download from the front USB port. The my-Ditto has a USB copy button but it is only for the rear USB port and is not automatic. I question why they placed the rear USB port so close to the power switch. It would be easy to accidentally switch the unit off when blindly plugging in the USB stick. When testing, both NAS took roughly the same amount of time to copy the contents. The my-Ditto does beep to indicate copy start and stop.

Both the my-Ditto and ReadyNAS show up on the network and are visible other computers and devices (e.g. TV, DVD player, TiVo).

BoxWave Capacitive Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7.0 Stylus (Metallic Silver)

BoxWave Capacitive Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7.0 StylusThis case is very good overall. The one previous review indicated like there where huge problems with this case. It is not that bad. I bought it for a Motorola Q phone. The description indicates that the case is for a Motorola Q. The phone fits well into the case. The only drawback is how it hangs against the body. I prefer phones that are very close to the body. The design of the metal cases only allows a rear clip attachment that slides over a circle screwed into the case. This causes the phone to stick out about 1/2" away from the body. It is just a personal preference to have it closer to the body. If you don't mind this, the case is great. It opens easily, can be accessed easily, has a protective clear screen, and is obviously sturdy (being metal) to protect the phone very well.

The case is cool. The phone looks really nice with it. People have told me they like the case. The phone with the case on can still fit in your pocket. I'm not sure if it would really protect my phone in case it falls. I'm afraid when it hits the floor the case will open and the phone will come out flying. The latch to close the front of the case can easily open and if it falls it probably will. I haven't dropped it and I was going to drop it to the floor to make sure the case worked, but I couldn't make myself drop my Moto Q! What if it broke?! One of the things so you can put it on your belt was broken. I don't even know how to put it on. This weird looking star plastic thing came with it, I don't know if it's the screw or something. It didn't come with directions. Overall, it was an okay product. Oh yeah, I love the screen protecter it has. It's really strong, protects my screen. One of the hugest gripe I have is that on the top, on the right, to the side, it's where the two parts meet, the backside tends to go inside the top one, making it uneven and moving the case a few degrees. It's annoying, it gets stuck all the time. They should have made the backside like the ones on the bottom in the inside. The metal case is cool to the touch, when I take it out of my backpack and put it to my cheek it's so refreshing! (I live in Texas where it's always 100 degrees and the cool metal is so delicious!) If you're not always dropping your phone, the case is good for you.

SanDisk Retail Pack SDSDB-512-A10, UPC Code 619659018115

SanDisk Retail Pack SDSDB-512-A10, UPC Code 619659018115
  • 512 MB capacity
  • User selectable mechanical write protect switch on the exterior card casing
  • Works with all SD enabled devices
  • Low battery consumption to maximize battery life in small portable devices
  • Operating shock rating of 2,000Gs, equivalent to a 10-foot drop to the floor

[Note: This review was originally posted on 20-Oct-2003 and contains an important update made on 29-Oct-2003! Be sure to read the entire review for details!]

SanDisk's 512MB SD card is by far the cheapest available. In most cases, the other cards are at least 50% more than this one.

I was curious about speed since SanDisk is known for being a bit on the slow side. This card was relatively newly released when I wanted it, so I was unable to find any good speed figures online. Therefore, I bought it anyway -and ran the speed tests myself.

Testing on a Toshiba/AudioVox Genio e550G with Kai's Speed Test application, I ran the Write Test 5 times with the following results:

Trial #1: 263KB/Sec

Trial #2: 263KB/Sec

Trial #3: 181KB/Sec

Trial #4: 171KB/Sec

Trial #5: 196KB/Sec

Not very consistent, for some reason. I was not running any other applications at the time, so I am not sure why the fluctuation.

For comparison, here are the results using a Lexar 256MB SD card:

Trial #1: 263KB/Sec

Trial #2: 271KB/Sec

Trial #3: 279KB/Sec

Trial #4: 256KB/Sec

Trial #5: 256KB/Sec

So, at their best, the two cards seem quite comparable. It is just that the Lexar card is clearly more stable as far as speed fluctuations go.

In any case, I'm happy with it -especially for the huge difference in price in most cases. Works for me. Plus, 5-year warranty -just in case.

John...

---UPDATE---

The fact that the card always performed well for the first two tests but then slowed and stayed slow until the device was reset was really bothering me, so I contacted SanDisk about it and gave them the same results that I shared here. SanDisk said that they thought the card was defective! I therefore had this card replaced (very quickly and easily by Amazon, I will add) and have just repeated my tests with the new card. Good news! The replacement card is usually faster and much more consistent than the original! It no longer slows down after the first two tests -the results are repeatable at any time.

For comparison, here are the new figures for the 512MB SanDisk card:

Trial #1: 329KB/Sec

Trial #2: 263KB/Sec

Trial #3: 341KB/Sec

Trial #4: 279KB/Sec

Trial #5: 318KB/Sec

As you can see, the card is now performing at or above the speed of the 256MB Lexar that I had previously tested. I am now quite satisfied with this card -it appears to be giving the same speeds or better than other cards well above this price range.

This is a basic SD card which is not expensive since it is not 1 gig or made by Sony and other companies with a lot of hype. Still holds more than 500 photos at the best resolution in a 5.1 Megapixel camera.

I have the Canon SD450 and the highest resolution I take pictures is 1600x1200 which turn out as outstanding prints on photo paper.

I take close to 200 photos every month. but since I download then to my computer (or IPod if I am on the road) I do not run out of memory space ever.

I weighed out my options with 1gig cards but ultimately it only means that I can take more pictures at a stretch. Look at it this way if you buy 2 512 Mb cards you have the simple flexibility of keeping your photos separate, have a backup memory card rather than buying one 1 gig card which if it fails you are stuck with no memory at all.

You can get this product for under $30 if you search well enough and find good deals. I have three of these at an avg cost of $32 each.

How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk SDSDB-512-A10 512MB Secure Digital Card, like most 512MB cards, will store on average 568 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 426 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 256 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 204 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 160 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this 512MB card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

It's easy to recommend this 512MB SanDisk SD card because I've owned one for close to a year now, using it with my Treo 650 smartphone. I keep it in the phone at all times and have never experienced a problem with it. Ever.

I use it to store MP3s, short videos, eBooks, photos, even MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, along with a few Palm applications. It's easy to transfer files using an inexpensive Bonzai USB flash drive that I also would recommend.

Of course, this card is versatile enough to use for portable flash storage when paired with a USB reader as well as to transfer files between desktops and laptops, or between digitial cameras and computers.

I value SanDisk products for their quality and relatively low price. With larger capacity cards entering the market the 512MB (and even 1GB) models are getting less and less expensive.

SanDisk offers rebates every few months so even if you don't need a card right now, put this on your wishlist and check Amazon frequently to take advantage of even greater savings.

This is an awesome card, you cant really say much it holds a nice ammount of pictures, and has a lock feature that keeps your data from being deleted. I would say use the lock feature when going on trips, i lost all my data when i accidently had my camera in my pocket and some how pressed a button by accident and delted everything. Also ive used this card to transfer data from computer to computer very good use as well. Really worth the money.

rooCASE Slim-Fit (Black) Folio Case Cover with Multi Adjustable Viewing Angles for Asus Transformer

rooCASE Slim-Fit Folio Case Cover with Multi Adjustable Viewing Angles for Asus Transformer Pad TF300T 10.1-Inch Tablet
  • Slim Fit Low Profile Case Cover for Asus Transformer Pad TF300. (NOT Comptible with Transformer Prime TF201 and TF101)
  • Black PU Exterior with Non-Scratch Microfiber Interior. (Tablet NOT Included)
  • 4 Adjustable Angles for Viewing Typing, Viewing or Displaying. Interior Elastic Hand Strap to Safely Carry your TF300.
  • 6 Reinforced Grip Corners to Hold Tablet with Maxium Protection. Access to all Controls and Ports.
  • A MUST Have for all Asus Transformer Pad TF300 Owners!!

This case seems well made and like it would do a good job, however IT IS NO LONGER DESIGNED FOR THE TF300. I ordered this case along with screens protectors from this company and received them in a timely manner. However, both the case and screen protectors were clearly labeled "TF700". I emailed customer service and they responded the next business day but they didn't understand what the problem was. After another email to them clarifying that I needed the correct screen protectors AND case sent to me, I was told that:

"The case you've recieved [sic] for the TF700 is in fact the correct case we currently offer for the TF300. Unfortunately, we no longer carry a case specifically for the TF300. The case we offer is compatiable [sic] for both the TF300 and TF700, and will provide the same protection to either case.

As anyone who has compared the TF300 to the TF700 will know, these tablets do NOT have the same dimensions. The 300 is both wider and thicker than the 700. When I replied to "Roxy" and relayed this information I also asked to be contacted by someone else in management of the company in order to get clarification on why this case was being advertised for the wrong device. The reply was that they are happy to give me my money back once I return it and I was never contacted by anyone else.

Just so you know, I tried fitting my TF300 into the case as they claim it will. It doesn't. It can be forced into the side and corner clips, but only with a lot of force. The cover will NOT close flat, and the clasp, if forced to snap shut as it is designed, actually caused enough stress on the plastic body of the tablet to separate it from the screen around the edge!

So if you have a TF700, this might work fine for you, but if you are looking for a TF300 case this isn't it.

You can force an tf300t in the case, kinda defeats the purpose though. I bough this because it said it was for the tf300t if you get it in it looks ok and protects it well.

Looks soooo much nicer than the stupid kind everyone has with elastic straps on the corners. This one snaps perfectly in place, holding the tablet snugly. The fit an finish are very premium. Much more than the generic Chinese cases I've tried. It's worth the couple bucks extra just for the fit and finish. The tabs that hold it in place leave the entire face exposed instead of hiding the bezel like most leather cases. It's nice and lush feeling with a thick, firm, yet yeilding cover that feels great in the hand. The only downside is that it doubles the weight of the tablet, but it's totally worth it.

Want rooCASE Slim-Fit (Black) Folio Case Cover with Multi Adjustable Viewing Angles for Asus Transformer Discount?

Well designed, but very, very tight fit on my ASUS 300T...strange, STRONG smell of some type of glue was annoying. IT was hard to close the cover by forcing the snap over the edge of the tablet. So much so that I thought it might damage it. After a while it became easier to close. At first you may have to push the edge of the cover from the opposite edge toward the snap to make it go over the tablet edge. Functions as advertised, but the 2 "odd" points reduced what would have been a 5 star rating.

The case I received had part number RC-TF700T-SF-BK. The case is for a TF700T. It kinda fits the tablet but not great.

As a case, it's really nice. Unfortunately it's the wrong one for my needs.

rooCASE Super Bubble Neoprene (Red / Black) Sleeve Case for Apple MacBook Air MC965LL/A MC966LL/A MC

rooCASE Super Bubble Neoprene Sleeve Case for Apple MacBook Air MC965LL/A MC966LL/A MC503LL/A MC504LL/A 13.3-inch LaptopNice design design, good zipper, excellent padding but very, very loose fit for my new 13" MacBook Air. About 1" slack is left on height and width of this case. MBAir slops around inside it too much. This extra inch also makes it just a little too big to slip comfortably into my backpack or small briefcase, so zeros-out the advantage of the thin profile of the MB Air.

This might be a very good fit for the thicker MacBook Pro, but not the firm fit I want for my MBAir. I'll return it. I have an old slipcase for my 1st generation MBAir that fits new one just right. I'll use that old slip case while I shop around for a better fit. Good quality but I took off two stars for poor fit.

This is a great product for the Macbook Pro, but too large for the Air. Don't get it for the Air, get a specific one or your laptop will move a lot and the chance of breaking will increase.

TouchTec Gen IV 9mm Capacitive iPad Stylus and Ball Point Pen with Replacement Stylus Tip-Thick Twis

TouchTec Gen IV 9mm Capacitive iPad Stylus and Ball Point Pen with Replacement Stylus Tip-Thick Twist- BlackDon't get me wrong hereI still, to this dayuse the original TouchTec Pen. It's seen so much use at this point that it's literally falling apart. I guess taking all your senior-level computer engineering degree notes with *any* pen would have that effect though. Long story short, it was a dream in comparison to competitors, and it still is a trooper to this day.

Then I got this new version in the mail. I wept. This thing is hands down the best capacitive stylus I've used. No contest. Though the tip is certainly a little more "squishily" than the original, it has a total 100% detection rate on my iPad 1G (with screen protector). That means that even the lightest press registers, and I've really gotta be honestthat makes *all* the difference in the world. Using my note app of choice, Note Taker HD, my writing speed is nearly doubled, and I have to actually press 1/2 as hard as with v1 (which, mind you, was quite good to begin with).

As a side note tooI truly applaud these guys' customer service too. The folks I've spoken to are a wonderful lot that are seriously approachable. Frankly, it caught me off guard because of how rare it is to see any company that cares about their customers. I congratulate you guysyou really have a great product and superior experience for the customer.

I have the original touchtec pen, and have enjoyed it very much. It is silver, in the 7mm. For ladies with small hands, it would be just right. This time, I have the newly designed Touchtec II, in black, 9mm. It is a very attractive pen with a good weight, not too heavy, just right. Would look great in a shirt pocket, and ready to use on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or any of the other great tablets out there. Fingers are sometimes too large to select just the right options, and leave lots of fingerprints on your iPad. Not this stylus pen! And it is also a great ballpoint pen.

Ladies, if you want to carry it in your purse, it comes in a sturdy plastic case with a slot in which to secure the pen.

They thought of everything with this one. Buy it, you won't regret it!

I've tried AYL, TouchTec, BoxWave and Jot styluses.

I love the headphone lanyard and weight of the BoxWave, but it's 1" shorter than a normal pen and has no way to write on paper.

I liked the AYL for weight and length, but it was a rollerball pen and wet ink can get messy...I prefer a true ballpoint.

For length, weight, and a ballpoint tip, I opted for the TouchTec Thin Twist instead. The thick twist is the width of a standard pen, but I like the thin pens better.

Now if they add a headset lanyard connector somehow, this will become my New Holy Grail Stylus!

After a lot of research and reviewing user comments I bought one of these. At first I was very happy. However after 3 weeks of heavy use the capacitive stylus stopped working it just wouldn't trigger the iPad (but my finger and other stylus worked fine). VERY disappointed. At least I could use it as a pen...but after 2 days of usage, the ink stopped flowing reliably. What a terrible quality stylus/pen. I sure wish I could get my money back. I gave it one star because there is no "0-star" rating.

I have been searching for a usable stylus for over a year and have tried at least 7 different brands with no luck. The TouchTec is not only usable, it works incredibly well. And, as a bonus, the ink pen is a great pen on its own. So, save yourself the headache of ordering and trying other brands TouchTec is the way to go!

I have used five of these now in boat navigation laptops for myself and friends. Very fast lockup, it always has a position before the nav software loads. Very sensitive, while others are having to stick their GPS out side this one is receiving in the cabin. I like the fact it is powered by the USB port and doesn't need a separate battery.

Hi!

I decided to purchase Holux, because of reviews I founded on web. I have had a lot of headache with Garmin GPS 18 USB, which is pretty hard to make work properly under any OS.

Holux, worked perfectly under XP, Vista & Linux (using gpsd), very good sencetivity (works even inside buildings), excellent accuracy.

There is nothing more to say.

Highly recommended.

Cheers

I bought this GPS receiver to replace a Microsoft branded receiver I had that got destroyed some time back. The first thing that went smoothly was the installation of the drivers onto my Windows 7 laptop. Once I used their diagnostic software to verify that it was working correctly, I tried it with my moving map software. It works wonderfully. I had the opportunity to try it out in a sheer moment of "where the heck am I?" on a weekend trip. From the time I plugged the unit into the computer, to the map showing me the "You Are Here" location was less than a minute.

My one upset about the puck is the length of the USB cable. Granted, it's 6 foot long, but I would have liked a bit more.

Certainly works great!

Want GR-213-USB: Holux USB Mouse GPS Receiver GR-213 for PC Discount?

The product is fine, appears to work as described. I'm using it with my netbook and a free nautical Navigation program but haven't had a chance to test it other than seeing that it does pinpoint my current location. I am looking forward to using them on my boat this spring/summer) The GPS installation instructions were minimal I thought, one section on a large sheet that repeated the instructions in maybe 15 languages). They referred to a test .exe file that I didn't find on the enclosed disk. The driver(s) etc., are on a mini-CD which didn't work in my tower's vertical CD drive, so I had to find another computer and copy the CD to a usb flash drive. Also, it wasn't clear to me that the driver on the disk was for Win 7. However, I did easily find what I needed on the Holux site, although I was still slightly confused/uncertain about the driver(s) I needed. Also, the test program was a compressed .RAR file, not a zip file, which required finding and downloading a RAR compression/extraction program (free for 40 days). Becoming comfortable and accomplishing all this required several hours and was slightly inconvenient. I rated it four stars due to what I considered to be disk/instruction deficiencies. For perspective, I am over 70 and only moderately computer savvy. As such, my experience may have little relevance for most younger folks or others sharper on computers who would likely have no problems installing the device.

I purchased this one, after a sad experience with Garmin GPS 18 USB, which was a complete mess...

Holux is perfect: outstanding reception, even in the buildings, easy installation, support of almost all OS (I have not tested it on Mac)

Just great

  • Metal pen clip for portable convenience

I bought this product for me E61 but I decided to change phones over the holiday season before I received this. I got the E61i now and when this got in the mail I was a bit worried of it working or not. I did not find any information on this online so I hope this helps you all out there, the E61i fits in it but does not stay securely snuck in as the E61 is a bit thicker, to this problem I found a solution I went down to my local hardware store and got some small pieces of thick non skid rubber pads with a self-adhesive pad and put them on the plastic holsters, now my E61i does not slip out of the case if I don't want it, so bottom line it's compatible and you can make it work w/o too much hassle.

after about 1.5 hours of practice and recalibrating over and over again, this is what the first few lines scanned from the irispen manual look like:

'he IRISPen may be the biggest sensation in computeriand since the mouse \ As efficient as computers are, you have to encode your data first. If you've ever If y-u'veever rekeyed text, you kn(ng and time-consuming it can be.... The IRISPen, a unique product for every computer user, offers instantaneous vaI at your fingertips. (JP to a 100 characters can be entered per second. Cut from paper, paste to Windows-: can you imagine a simpler way of entering text?

Is it worth it? Spell check couldn't even fix this disaster. I am a very computer saavy person, I don't think I am using it wrong, I think they just really haven't perfected the text recognition software. The one review above must be an irispen employee. I find it hard to believe right out of the box, that it worked perfectly...and then to encourage you to upgrade??? Laughable. You will spend more time fixing the scanning errors than if you just typed it yourself. Going back to amazon tomorrow!

This worked once and then stopped calibrating, so it no longer functions. Iris claims to have customer support, but there is none. I have been calling and emailing them once a week for three months. I got one reply a month ago promising to replace it. I never got it. Their web site has little to no useful help. Iris ranks as the worse company I have ever dealt with. Pity anyone who gets a faulty pen! What a waste of money! I hate feeling ripped off!

As a scholar who deals with a lot of rare material, I thought this pen would be a god-send in helping me transcribe material to my computer. The manufacturer boasts near-100% accuracy. I give it 40% at best. Sometimes, if you have a white piece of paper, clear, 12-point text, you can get 80% accuracy, but this is a rare occurrence.

I ended up spending more time "correcting" the text from the Iris Pen than I would have typing it out...so now my $70 "tool" sits unused on my desk.

I can't wait for the day that an actual pen-scanner works, but today is not that day.

Want IRISPen Express Discount?

This entire opinion is entered directly into the amazon review page with the IRISPen using a hard copy of a file I printed with my inkjet printer, very typical, 12-pt, Times font.

I took the pen out of its box and read the directions very carefully. As usual, the Mac I took the pen out of its box and read the directions very caretuuy. Be sure to click the desktop image to bring up a fresh window with the IrisPen.

I read the bad reviews here, but I really need what IRISPen is supposed to do. I took the plunge and ordered it, bracing myself for the worst.

Calibration was a breeze; you just touch the pen to a sample of white paper. Then, without reading into the manual, I drew the pen over a sentence In an open book. Flawless! I went on to do the entire page, speeding up until I was going full speed, over one line per second, as fast as I could go and keep the pen on eourse. Three errors in about 600 words; a missed period and two "a's" seen as "11."

This item greatly helps my editorial work. No longer do I have to destroy books to get a few pages onto my flatbed scanner, nor do I have to re-type long passages of text from bound sources. The pen doesn't care about the font of the original, and you can select any font and size you want to be sent to the target program.

My opinion is that some people are naturally klutzy and may have difficulties getting the feel of this unusual tool. There is a certain slant and technique that came naturally to me, but might be awkward to someone who can't dance or throw baskets. There is a If you keep your eye on the arrow, allowing the line of text to become a passing blur as you drag the pen, it all works out very well. A little practice might help, although I needed none at all.

I highly recommend this item without reservations to any Mac user. It works better than advertised, taking into account I haven't even cracked the instruction manual yet. The PC instructions seemed quite geeky and were considerably longer than the Mac instructions, but I imagine those still confined to the tiny PC universe can probably do fine with IRISPen if they pay very close attention to the instruction manual.

I have read the reviews here and elsewhere about this product before I bought it. But I was in the need of something for quick little jobs more convenient than my flatbed scanner and faster than my typing and gave it a try. No regrets at all.

I do a lot of research with quoting of one or two paragraphs out of books or papers, mainly in German language. The IrisPen works very well for me in English, in French and in German (no problem with the umlauts etc.; I have not tried other languages).

One thing is important: you have to calibrate the pen very carefully like any instrument that needs calibration. Calibrate it with a WHITE sheet of printer paper, not with a slightly off-white like a book page or similar.

And you have to practice a bit how you hold it to get the hang of it. When scanning you should see the green light ALL the time, it should not flicker. It is named "pen" but you manoeuvre it different than a writing pen. If you keep that in mind you will be successful!

My IrisPen sits just behind my keyboard, as easily to grab as my mouse and I love it as a big time saver.

I couldn't decide between a sleeve or a cover for my new Nook Color. This one fits the bill for both. There are elastic straps that will hold your NC in place if you prefer to leave it in the sleeve while using. Or you can simply open the zipper and slip your NC inside for safekeeping. The front pocket is tiny and won't hold much, so that's not much of a selling point. My NC feels well protected. The only negative is that zipper wasn't sewn in evenly and has several spots where it kind of "ripples." But for the price, I can put up with that.

Iris USOA400 IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner

Iris USOA400 IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner
  • Portable, pen-size scanner with OCR recognizes 128 languages
  • Recognizes alphanumeric characters, numeric data, mathematical symbols, currency symbols, and much more; scans small images
  • Scans up to 3.15 inches per second
  • Mac and PC compatible; powers off USB port
  • Automatically recognizes mix of Western and Greek or Cyrillic languages; optionally reads Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean

I edit a small-town weekly newspaper, and in slow times, I like to have a story regarding some aspect of the town's history ready to go in as filler. So I spend quite a bit of time going through yellowed newspaper archives, and bought this toy to see if I could cut down on my retyping time. The result? Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I find you have to recalibrate every time you start scanning a different newspaper page, and that the scanner works better on pages that still have good contrast, which is to say have not become too yellowed. The good news is that I get about 95 percent accuracy on unyellowed newsprint, so it works for me then; the bad news is that the error rate greatly rises when the contrast drops, so that retyping is still faster on most of the old stuff. But, it should be noted, I'm conducting a Pen Scanner Torture Test; I find it works just fine on better quality paper, such as book and magazines. But always, always, recalibrate first.

Buy Iris USOA400 IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner Now

The several versions of this product differ in the software offered, the scanning pen, apparently, is the same for all. Iris Express seemed good enough for me since I only wanted to copy information from library books.

Getting useful copy requires a steady hand, a modicum of practice and, above all else, proper settings of the scanner. Operating instructions are both obscure and sketchy, so a beginner should stay with the manufacturer's default settings until some proficiency is gained. It helped, somewhat, to download the instruction file from the ReadIris website when I was ready to create settings of my own. Those instructions are inadequate too, but better than those packaged with the pen.

Once technique is mastered, character recognition is excellent, but the output text is plain, with no formatting whatsoever. That lack is easily corrected by sending the copy to a word processor.

Everything considered, I'm glad I bought the gadget.

I bought this product with some trepidation, as other reviewers' opinions of it were all over the map. When I first started trying to use it, it didn't work at all well. My first few scans (each being one line of text) came out pretty accurate, but after that things just deteriorated fast, until before long all I could ever get was a big string of unrecognized characters, represented by tildes (~). I read the PDF manual, tried various settings, to no avail.

Then I contacted IRIS customer support, and they sent me a list of things to try, three of which actually helped quite a bit, and now I'm scanning along fairly happily.

The last thing they suggested--and the first thing I tried--helped a lot. I clicked File > Reset to Factory Settings. I've had to do that again, after I saw a deterioration in results. So I guess I'll just have to live with the default settings and Reset them every so often. Not a big problem for me, though it would be for some users.

They also said it should take 3-4 seconds to scan a 6-inch line of text. I had been scanning much faster than that. Slowing down helped.

And they said that a wavy scan is a big problem. I have found that by positioning a ruler about 3/4 inch below the line I want to scan works pretty nicely--I just run the scanner along the ruler as a guide, and it eliminates the wavy-line problem. (The thing doesn't seem to be bother if the line of text rises or falls slightly from left to right, provided it's all in a fairly straight line.)

I should mention that I suffer from a slight tremor in my hands, and so it is possible that some of my difficulties would not be experienced by someone with a steadier hand.

Bottom line: You can make this thing work if you stick with it. If, like me, you are constantly needing to scan in fragments of text, you will find it worth the trouble to overcome initial difficulties, should you experience them.

Want Iris USOA400 IRISPen Express 6 Pen Scanner Discount?

I bought the IRISpen Express in the hope that it would make the endless research projects I have for college a little less time consuming. I always found it tedious and disruptive to have to stop reading to note a phrase or quote for use in a paper. Also, it is time consuming to have to refer back to those little sticky notes when it is time to type up the paper or even to compile the research for review.

The IRISpen makes it much easier to simply sit with a book and read it as usual. When I come across a part that I want to include in a paper or even just keep on my computer for use in a blog or webpage, I simply scan the page number and the passage I want to use. Done. I have blasted through 4 library books today in the time it would have taken to work through a one or two because I dont have to stop reading to type. I set up my laptop next to me and start a heading on OneNote with the book that I am reading. That way all I have to do is scan it like a highlighter when I see something I want.

This little scanner has made life as a student much easier and less time consuming. Im also one of the most organized students now, because all my notes are digital and can easily be searched.

There are, of course, flaws with the pen; it isnt perfect at recognition so it is important to review the text periodically to fix spelling errors. It helps to calibrate it before using it every time, which thankfully takes about 5 seconds. Other than that, I have been very pleased with the IRISpen and I would recommend it to busy students or professionals who have to organize printed material for any sort of publication.

I'd like to set out a review for mac users.

1. I am a law student trying to use the scanner to consolidate information from book to print. The books I use have writing in them, over the words, and lots of highlighting and underlining.

2. I was extremely reticent to buy the pen because of the negative reviews.

3. I am using a Macbook Pro (2010) with the pen.

The bottom line is that the pen really does work when you are using it with written text. Reviews that mention otherwise (I have noticed) are mainly PC users. The pen really is helpful in getting down all of the information you want.

A. Dealing with books (exclusively with typed print)

The pen works wonderfully. It works BEST with a book on a flat surface. (I have only had problems with very thick book in the beginning chapters (where the binding is not flat on the table. It can read over yellow highlighting without a problem. It has a 60-70% success rate with underlined words. It obviously works best with clean text.

B. Mac experience

I have a feelign that the OCR engine for the mac software is somewhat different (though I could be wrong) than the PC version. The far and few between Mac users have seem to have positive experiences.

C. Realistic Expectations

In an ideal world, the pen would work perfectly... of course, it does not. But you can definitely optimize the experience to make it work best for you.

1. Somehow it depends on the light. Insufficient lighting with not allow the text to be read. Too much lighting on the other hand, seems to overwhelm the pen and writing does not get recognized (so don't hold have your friend hold a flashlight above the book... like we did last weekend). Second, the pen can recognize text REALLY quickly. But when it's underlined or highlighted, slow down. I usually do an entire line (flat, good lighting, clean text) in a quarter of a second. And it's 99% always right. I slow down on highlighted text and that seems to work well.

Lastly, I typically run into problems when I try to only get particular words from the page instead of a whole line. this might be due to my beginner level use, though.

Just realize that this technology isn't perfect, but it is pretty good. For the price, it will save you thousands of keystrokes. I just hope this review presents an objective approach that might explain some of the more negative ones. If you find any questions or issues, comment and I'll try my best to address.

BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway

BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway
  • Plays music from Bluetooth-enabled cell phones, PDAs, music players or computers

If your car has an auxilliary input on it's radio and a cigarette lighter, you can take A2DP-capable bluetooth device and play high-quality music through your stereo with this device. (Note: some sellers include the Blackberry car charger with this device, if not, you'll need to buy one.)

Pairing this device with my Droid was relatively easy: just plug it in, select it from the list of available devices, enter a pairing code and the Droid automatically reconnected with the gateway every time I started my car from that point forward, allowing me to play MP3s and Pandora radio through my Acura's stereo without a problem.

One thing to keep in mind when you use this device in a car is that you'll still have to position your playback unit where you can operate it safely while driving. The iPod and most smartphones have windshield and or vent mounts that keep the unit in your line of site while driving, and I'd HIGHLY recommend that you buy such a mount at the same time you buy this device, if you don't already have one.

My plan was to hook this device up to my car's aux input to allow bluetooth music streaming to the car's stereo. I had it powered through a usb/cigarette lighter converter. It's amazing and does exactly what I wanted. It never loses connection (unless I turn off the car) and the music quality is stellar. Highly recommend buying this.

It works great in my BMW. My 2010 328I dont have bluetooth. If i install factory Bluetooth, it costs $2500. This little device saved me $2500.

Want BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway Discount?

Got 2 of these, 1 for each stereo in my house and I use them all the time to connect my mp3 player to listen to my music on my old but great sound quality stereo. Also use it to connect my laptop up to my home theatre system and play music or videos (you need a video cable for the image transference) or to listen to work related audio clips in the comfort from my couch rather than at my desk. I've also taken it with me and plugged into rental car to get my music to a car with no bluetooth. As long as your device has bluetooth it will connect to this.

They work very simply. Sound quality transferred through is great. They do what they say, very effectively and without any fuss once setup. All my devices found the gateway and connected without a problem, and ofcourse the Blackberry phones work with it.

BlackBerry Bluetooth Stereo Gateway

My car already has Bluetooth for cellular calls but it does not support A2DP for stereo audio streaming so I got this little gateway after much research to stream audio from my phone and I could not be more pleased with its performance. Every other gateway I found needed to be "turned on" after you start the car or the phone needed to be paired every time by pressing some button but this little thing is plugged into a USB charger in an outlet located right next to the AUX in for the car stereo and reconnects instantly with the phone as soon as the car starts without any intervention on my part. I know this one does not have a built-in rechargeable battery like some other BT gateways but this works to its advantage in my application as it turns off as soon as I turn off the car. I am no audiophile but the sound quality to my ears is stellar with good bass and treble, as good as when I plug the phone in using a regular AV cable. I have not really tested the range since I am always inside the car when playing music from my phone but the connection has remained solid and stable a few times that I have stepped outside the car to go to the trunk or something. I have an HTC EVO and I can stream music stored on the phone as well as Internet audio streams from Pandora and tunein radio flawlessly. I would highly recommend this BT gateway.
