PalmOne Tungsten T2 Handheld
- Compact and powerful Palm device with advanced wireless functionality
- Bluetooth-ready, for wireless email and Internet access
- 32 MB of memory
- MP3 and video playback
- What's in the box: Palm Tungsten T2 handheld, Stylus, Premium Screen Protector
So why buy? Why upgrade? If you are a casual user of a Palm that primarily uses the device for occassional reference, stick with the original T. There is some great pricing available right now. But if you use your Palm frequently, the screen and additional memory are worth the upgrade.
The original screen is fine, and until I compared the two devices side by side, I was completely content with it, but a transflective screen is a lot easier to look at for quick glances or extended work sessions. It requires less time to focus on the information you need and while it is completely subjective, I find that has value for me.
If you like to read, ebooks on this device are absolutely incredible, and totally accessible while the device is in closed position.
The additional memory means you won't have to spend any valuable time trying to shoehorn even more programs into the 16mb memory space. 16 megs is plenty, but 32 megs is better.
There are more refinements, all the Tungsten patches are now incorporated into the OS upgrade, the graffiti input has been upgraded to Graffiti 2, which should be easier for new users. But there are text input utilities to customize character recognition anyway you want.
Hunt for a good bargain and jump in. An additional Tungsten model (the T3) will be available before Christmas with some nice specs reported, but when a Palm is this good, there is no compelling reason to wait. This device will still have a good resale value if you can't resist the new model. Something that can't be said for the original T with it's reflective screen.
My 1 month old orignal Tungsten T? My co-worker was still using a M100, I don't think he'll be disappointed with the replacement.
Somebody's got to test these new units.

My palm T2 experienced erratic behaviour after 6 months of operation. This kind of "bug" is also described by other persons in the T2 amazon reviews. The displacement bar moved without control and in the main window, the focus jumped from one application to another. Well, I did the soft reset and finally the hard reset, nothing happened. The incredible thing was that the problem was solved taking out the window plastic protector! I do not know why, but now my palm works fine. So, do not throw away you palm ! just change the protector and see what happen.Read Best Reviews of PalmOne Tungsten T2 Handheld Here
I have used Palm OS devices for about four years. I recently purchased the TT2. I was excited about the product because it had everything that I wanted from a handheld. However, after using it for a day or so, the Voice Memo application started to malfunction. Sometimes it would not record anything no matter what I did. Other times it would record, but when I left Voice Memo then returned to it, the recordings would disappear. Palm Support told me to return the unit, which I did, and exchange it for a new one. Within one hour of using my second TT2 it started to do exactly the same thing! I'm returning it to Palm and I'll be purchasing a handheld by a different company on Monday. I'd be interested to hear whether or not others have experienced problems with the Voice Memo application. Also, I'd like to echo the sentiments of another reviewer: The telephone support for Palm is absolutely HORRIBLE. They route their tech support calls to India, as you may know. As a native American, it was almost impossible for me to communicate with any of the tech representatives. They didn't understand me and I didn't understand them. Also, they don't seem to actually know anything about the technical aspects of the Palm products. As far as I could tell they were just surfing the PalmOne website and reading Knowledge Library entries to me. Dealing with them was one of the worst experiences I've had in months. Literally.

The T2 is an updated version of the original Tungsten, and as such sports a minor upgrade in the OS software as well as a better color screen and more memory -32MB total in RAM, but only 29MB user-accessible. Still that's plenty for a Palm-based PDA. The performance is truly snappy; playing MP3's, which still require a Secure Digital memory card, gives no hiccups. Every thing responds instantanenously. One star taken off for requiring using an SD card for MP3 and video playing. Another star for not including wi-fi (802.11b or g); instead, the less common Bluetooth wireless technology is built-in. You can use BT to talk to BT-enabled cell phones, but it's a hassle. Sure you can buy an Secure Digital wi-fi card soon, but 1) that draws more battery power than built-in wi-fi circuitry, and 2) you can't use wi-fi and expansion memory (or play MP3s) at the same time. What a dumb design! Battery is still not user-replaceable, unlike the new trend with Pocket PCs.Overall, the T2 is pleasant to use and truly compact. But the lack of wi-fi and the need to use expansion for an enhanced experience make it a poor choice for the power user (such as yours truly).I have been a longtime fan of the Palm Operating System and have owned several different models, from the m125, the m130 and I have used several different models including a Sony Clie as well as the m515 and even the Handspring Treo -nothing and I do mean NOTHING compares.
First off, let's talk screen: going from the color of the m130 to the T2 was very much like jumping from a 13" color TV up to a wide-screen plasma HDTV. Simply incredible. You can operate the screen with the backlight or without, saving batteries and making the screen MUCH easier to read outside in sunlight. My m130 was just shy of impossible to read with practically ANY sunlight on it.
Next, storage space. Definitely a nice upgrade from the standard 8mb in the m130. A whopping 32mb's of memory allows me the freedom to add plenty without worrying about transferring it all to my SD card -which by the way took an ETERNITY to access using my old processor. Now I can concentrate using my card for mp3's.
Next, ergonomics. Again, compared to my trusty m130, this is a GIANT leap forward. The compact design is absolutely amazing. I simply cannot tell you how convenient it is that the T2 slides up to reveal the Graffiti writing area, making it still a small device when fully extended, but easily one of the smallest models available especially for during the times when you do not need to write anything down. Just brilliant.
Next, the recorder. I am still in awe of how useful this one item has become to me. I have often wished I could jot something down on the spur-of-the-moment while driving only to put it off for fear of wrecking my vehicle, and ultimately I end up forgetting what it was in the first place. The T2 has totally eliminated this problem for me. Now I record my ideas and reminders on the go and my biggest problem now is remembering to place it within reach while I'm on the road.
The increased accuracy while jotting down a note in memo-pad is a REAL improvement over my m130. I can't tell you how many times I went to write down something quickly only to have the screen screw it up and the handwriting never quite looked natural at ALL. Now the T2 has made all of that look much more like real handwriting and a vast improvement over what they had before.
The vibrate alert is also a VERY handy addition for use during important meetings where being quiet is an absolute MUST.
All in all, I can't remember how many times I have thought to myself: Wow, this thing is incredible! And lately I've been thinking more of why it took me so long to make the switch to something better. I suppose in the long run I kept my m130 mostly because I am a die-hard fan of the Palm OS and since it worked virtually flawless for several years, why upgrade? I guess I dropped it one too many times, and after needing to be re-set almost daily and the battery never fully charges and therefore after losing my current information one more time than I wanted, I made the move -and I am certainly glad I did.
There have been several reviews critical of the T2 for one reason or another, and I am sure they are valid -however in MY personal experience the T2 has worked absolutely PERFECT since day 1 and has given me no problems at all. I am 100% satisfied and cannot even consider a time when I will use a PDA manufactured by ANY other company. Very impressed.

iTon PA-BK03 49-Key Bluetooth v2.0 Wireless Mini Keyboard for iPad, iPhone, PDAs, Smartphones or Pla
I bought this for my HP Touchpad that I got during the firesale. I hated typing with the on-screen keyboard and bought this on a whim to see if it would work. I knew the touchpad had an HP brand keyboard so it must of supported HID devices (remember android guys, this is something that isnt default in android before 3.0 so its not the keyboards fault you have incompatible hardware). I figured if nothing else, I could get it working with a little tweaking. Once it arrived, I pulled it out of the box, turned it on and put it in pairing mode. Worked perfectly and I couldnt be happier. Its a great keyboard for the money and I couldnt ask for more. I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that it did not have any documentation included and it wasnt easy finding a user manual online. For anyone else wondering, enter pairing mode by holding the long black button by the LED lights. The default passkey is 1234.I paired this unit to my laptop running Windows 7 64-bit and it works great. I'm using it to trigger my light show controller on my laptop for live gigs. It's the same size as my iPhone and it fits nicely in my pocket and range is great. The keys are definitely small so if you're comfortable with typing on a blackberry, it'll have the same feel. If you're using it as your main keyboard, you'll probably struggle with the small keys, but if you're using it occasionally, it'll work great!I would give this keyboard five out of five stars but I didn't like a couple of things about it. The keys are ridiculously soft and sink in pretty far so it takes a bit of effort to type. Also, I don't like the placement of the delete key but I should've saw that when I looked at the picture before purchasing. Otherwise, this keyboard works perfectly how I thought it would and need it to. I am using it with my iPod touch 4th generation to take notes and do homework on documents to go. It works wonderfully with every app I have tried it with. :) It is super lightweight and only a tiny bit larger than my iPod. For roughly 11 dollars, I think it was a great deal! It came with a little mini cd for something. I have no idea what for because Macbooks apparently can't take in mini cds in their optical drive. You don't need it to make the keyboard function.I love the keyboard, however it doesn't come with functional software to make it work on an android phone (unless you have a custom rom). I wasn't happy with the custom rom I was running, so I switched to the leaked ICS for droid bionic. Still doesn't work with bionic. You can't activate the license because the Chinese manufacturer did not renew the license, so there aren't any licenses available to activate! UGH!
That being said, BlueInput Demo works great on Android 4 to get the keyboard to function. However, it is pretty pricey to upgrade to the pro version. With the current exchange rate it is close to $20, which makes the use of a cheap keyboard pretty expensive! There are also some flaws with the current version of the software, but they are working on it.
If you are willing to play with work arounds, then purchase the keyboard. It is small, simple and cheap, but you have to put some effort into making it work.
If you aren't willing to deal with the flaws, wait until Google actually gets a Bluetooth HID controller built in!My device wasn't compatible with what the information said but when I mentioned it I got a refund and I got to keep the device... Thank you very much

Toshiba e330 Pocket PC Handheld
- Lightweight, thin Pocket PC with 64 MB RAM and 32 MB ROM and 300 MHz XScale processor
- Secure Digital memory card slot for transferring and storing music, picture and more
- 240 x 320 pixel, 3.5-inch TFT LCD screen displays more than 65,000 colors
- Features the Pocket PC 2002 operating system, with improved handwriting recognition and versions of Pocket Outlook, Word, and Excel
- What's in the box: Toshiba Pocket PC e330, USB Cradle, 10W AC Adapter, 1-Stylus, Soft Slip Case, Quick Start Card, User Manual, Warranty Card
First, the e330 is small, thin, and ultra light. It has the same form-factor as the e310, but with some noteworthy enhancements. Most notably, the e330 has the new 300MHz XScale Processor from Intel. Although the individual programs don't seem much affected by the increased speed, when you're using multiple programs, you can really tell a difference in performance. The e330 also has 64MB of RAM, giving you more room for programs, games, files, etc. The scroll-wheel on the upper left-hand side of the unit makes flipping through web pages and eBooks a one-handed affair. Last, but certainly not least, the e330 has the MediaQ video chip. This not only makes on-screen animation less jerky, but also makes writing on the screen appear without a lag.
I highly recommend the e330 Pocket PC from Toshiba. Five stars without question.

I absolutely love this Toshiba Pocket PC. I had been a Compaq IPAQ user over the past 2 years since dumping the Palm OS and thought I would be an IPAQ user forever. That is until I first saw the new Toshiba e330.My Toshiba Pocket PC e330 has the latest Intel XScale processor running at 300MHz with 64MB of RAM, Pocket PC 2002 OS and the familiar tools like Word, Excel, Outlook and Media Player. The device also has a built-in Secure Digital (SD) media slot for additional storage space. I've used my SD card to backup my PDA as well as a holding place for my MP3. The built in Media Player makes this a great portable MP3 player.
This PDA is fast and I typically amaze people by playing full-screen video on the beautiful color screen. And the best part of the device is its incredibly thin profile and lightweight. It easily fits in your pocket and it just a great device. I highly recommend this PDA for anyone looking for an entry level device Pocket PC device as the price keeps on dropping.

I bought this unit about 2 years ago and love the features it has. Unfortunately some days the battery and the unit works fine, the next day it loses the entire battery and the unit is completely dead with no data left. Basically on good days the unit uses about 10% battery life, on bad days the entire battery will go all at once.Further research has shown all the Toshiba PDA's suffer from the same problem. Never will I buy one from Toshiba again.

I bought the e330 and about 25 days later, the unit refused to turn on. The battery had been FULLY charged. I had noticed the unit started to shutdown by itself a few days prior. Eventually it just refused to turn on. I had babied the e330 since day one and tried to give PDAs a chance, but I went back to a notepad and pen. It only cost me $1 max.The e330 did offer decent screen quality, fast operating speed, and worked fairly well limited as it may be. It played videos very nicely but I wasn't too happy with this power-on failure. It isn't the latest and greatest, but you get good value for your money. If you can live without WiFi and Bluetooth this is the way to go. The battery life is enough for about six hours of hard use. There are a few recommendations that I have, upgrade to ActiveSync 3.7 and do a soft reset before syncing. Also, get a 256M SD card for backups and possibly music. If you're into music headphones are a must and download a copy WinamPAQ, which is a freeware WinAmp for pocket PC. For software development either get Visual Studio .Net ($), eMbedded Visual Basic (free) or eMbedded Visual C++ (free). SQL Server CE is also available for free.

I purchased this product because I read and pull citations from many scientific articles and texts and put them in a bibliographic citation database. The WizCom SuperPen definitely has a learning curve, but I found it to be short. I estimate that I'm getting approximately 98% accuracy now scanning articles with very unusual word content (paleoclimatology). This rivals the accuracy when I type these same references and is much quicker.
The SuperPen makes some demands on the user.
1. The pen must be held at a fairly steep angle to the page; 80 to 90 degrees seems to work best.
2. Accuracy seems to increase if you switch to left-handed mode so that the scanner head is looking into the upcoming text
3. A constant speed seems to work best, but there is little difference between given speeds.
4. The user must develop a consistent method of moving the scanner parallel to the lines of text. The largest error rate occurs when the scanner head is skewed or the path of the device is at an angle to the line of text.
I did discover one little idosyncracy. When the system is powered on, it tries to open the last file which you were editing. If that file is very large, the pen times out before the file is loaded. That behavior can be by-passed by holding down the Escape button as the power is turned on, thereby activating the main menu. At that point, go to the option which permits a longer time-out period and set it to some higher number. That is the only real problem which I have had so far.

I actually bought this as a gift for my wife, but have seen it in action now and am amazed (she loves it, too). The OCR picks up all but the most subtle characters, and the user interface is really smooth. The PC software for import from/export to the pen is straight-forward and works well (even with the supplied serial adapter).
In overall value, I rate this an excellent product.
Want Wizcom QuickLink SuperPen Discount?
Once receiving my pen, I spent at least 1 hour getting acquainted with it, the manual and its functions. I highly suggest spending at least some time with it so that you are comfortable with it before putting it to actual use. For me, I found that scanning from right to left was best and just got a kind of familiarity with the device. I found the pen to have over the 95% accuracy suggested by Wizcom after I had spent a little time with it.However, it did not connect to my computer. I contacted tech support and found that he was extremely quick to respond, even after 6pm. I was very impressed. I had a few problems to be sorted out, but the most frustrating one was that I had not clicked on "turn the pen communications on." He never thought of it, and I happened to stumble across it. So if you have issues, check that every time you start the software. Now, everything works wonderfully.
In addition, I bought this pen because I have a significant learning disability and it takes me a very long time to both read and take notes. I find that this pen truly speeds up the process and makes my life a lot easier.Despite following the step by step procedure to download the dictionary from my pc, a message "cannot establish connection" is always prompted in the pen. I read from one review that a cable adaptor was required which they purchased seperately. Could this be the same problem I am facing? If so, why did they not mention it anywhere in the book or in their ads? I would greately appreciate some help or advice here.

Amazon Kindle Anti-Glare Screen Protector (2 Pack)
1) The fitting is poor. It has huge gaps around the screen
2) It is NOT Anti-Glare! This is the shiniest piece of plastic that can be possibly manufactured
3) It does not have any kind of adhesive backing, or stickiness to it whatsoever. I've only had these for mere hours and I've already lost the first screen protector because it fell off (no help from its ill-fit: see #1).
4) The instructions on how to apply them are inexplicably written in German, even though every other thing written in, on, and around the packaging is in English. These are ridiculous to apply. I'm usually fairly good at this and I'm going to throw these screen protectors away and start over. They are hard to apply and there's a sticker in the corner that is impossible to apply. I think they may have slight anti-glare properties, but all the bubbles and sticky residue from the sticker in the corner renders these pretty useless. I'm not usually so critical of a product, but I wasn't pleased with these at all.

This may be somehow due to user error, but as soon as I took the film off the screen protector, every dust particle around stuck to it and rendered the thing useless. I would suggest applying it in one of those hermetically sealed rooms with no dust particles in it...Saturday, July 5, 2014

Good size and comfy, a simple solution that works. Silly that different colors of the same item are radically different in price, so I bought the cheapest color! Who cares? When I first got the desk, I really liked the color and comfort of it, but I've had this for less than 2 months and there are already 2 long, splintery looking cracks on this. I don't think I was too rough with it, I use it with my laptop in bed or sitting on the couch. I think the cracks may have come when I picked up the lapdesk with my laptop on it, though I'm not sure.I bought this to use with my laptop when I study in bed and it works well for that. I find that I also use it as a meal tray and a lap desk when I journal. The plastic top is solid, not flimsy, and the padding is holding up well. This has become essential for my freelance writing when I get tired of sitting at the table like a responsible adult.Friday, February 7, 2014
