Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device

Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device
  • Sony HIDC10 Dash Personal Internet Viewer

People are expecting too much out of this device. It's not an ipad. It's a glorified alarm clock with apps. It is a great alarm clock that keeps time even after the power goes out. Most clocks would lose time but not this device it automatically reconnects to the router to reset time. Also if power is kept on and the internet is turned off it still keeps time so if your like me and your internet is spotty at times the clock will keep time even without internet access. I love listening to Pandora on it. The speakers are plenty powerful to rock out while playing some video games. Also there are 1000's of apps to download with many categories to cover. You can download weather, educational, sports, news, video game apps, and even different looking clock designs. I have facebook, espn, netflix, and Youtube myself on the dash. You can either look at them when you want or have them cycle through on a predestined loop. The touchscreen is responsive and it has a nice looking screen for watching videos. Also you can plug in usb devices and play music and videos on the dash from them. You can even link Pandora or other music apps to alarms so you wake up to your favorite tunes. One problem I had was linking my Netflix and Facebook accounts but with the help of the excellent and free Sony customer support I figured it out in no time. I am very happy with this device and plan on buying another for my other room. If your looking for an alarm clock with benefits then pick up this great device.

This device is FANTASTIC!

I am using this as a digital photo frame, wireless internet radio streamer, mp3 player, weather station, sports scoreboard, news and information provider and Netflix viewer!

I have the device connected to my wireless home network, and it has maintained a good connection for the several weeks I've had it. The LCD touchscreen is sharp and clear, and the unit is nicely built and sturdy.

This is a fantastic little device. I'm using it in my kitchen as a quick source of entertainment and news since my kitchen is closed off from the tv in the living room. I can watch hulu and Netflix videos and listen to pandora while I cook or clean. If you're looking for a tablet, this isn't for you but it's a pretty cool stationary entertainment device.

Want Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device Discount?

I got my Sony Dash as a gift shipped by Amazon.com. I know the gift cost only $89 and free shipping so watch out for sellers charging over $100. Even the Sony Store sells it for less than $100! I wanted the Dash to replace my traditional clock radio alarm. Sony was calling it a Personal Internet Viewer but if you visit the Sony Store, you will see they now call it the "Dash Information Alarm Clock". This is the better description. If you want an awesome alarm clock that has tons of cool Internet Apps, including Pandora, then this is the device for you. So far I haven't had any problems with adding or deleting Apps. The only problem I had was you need to register the device before it can be fully used, and the User Guide was not very helpful about what the device name is supposed to be to register it online. I contacted Sony Support and they sent me an eSupport URL link to a webpage that made it clear that you need to touch the "System" menu button on the device and it tells you the device name which is "My Dash" and a registration code, then you just enter this data into an account you setup to access your Sony Dashboard via a web-based interface. The Dash has a nice crisp display, good sound, and lots of information in a very powerful desktop device. If the power gets turned off, don't worry your Dash alarm settings and favorite weather information is saved, including all your App settings, when powered back on. I am very happy with my Sony Dash.

great potential but absolutely mediocre execution tied to proprietary Sony servers.

registration is pain but i though once that was done it would be a nice picture frame / alarm clock... that was until this am.

As of 9/15 Sony has pulled the plug on the servers so the dash can't authenticate and is essentially a paperweight. the unit has great potential but everything is tied to Sony servers so it can't even boot up without calling home. It can't change channels, apps, or do much of anything without calling home and with the home servers down it's not worth much of anything.

if you're thinking of buying one (even at the steep discounts) please don't as this is intricately associated with Sony's back-end servers somewhere that they really don't care about (abandoned). if/when the server go so will your purchase and it will become (no matter what condition) a useless slab of tech that can't be used for anything else (inspite of it's relatively nice screen / touch screen / speaker / industrial design).

Compaq iPAQ 3150 Monochrome Pocket PC

Compaq iPAQ 3150 Monochrome Pocket PC
  • What's in the box: iPaQ 3150, Two Styli, Vinyl slipcase, AC adapter, USB cable, Rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery, CD-ROM Software, User Manual

I got this unit as a present for Christmas 2001. Nice unit, fast, when compared to my previous handheld. They have been discontinued by Compaq, so there are not a whole lot of places selling them. But if you can pick one up for under [price], it's worth the price.

Yes, it does not have the color screen of it's more expensive brothers. But it also doesn't have the shorter battery life. It also uses all the same accessories of it's big brothers.

I got mine to replace my Palm IIIe. I added a Compact Flash adapter and the upgrade to PocketPc 2002. I use it to read my Email, keep my schedule, and listen to music as an MP3 player on planes when I travel.

I was already using MS Outlook XP as my PIM manager on my laptop and desktop, so it took all my settings and schedules and imported them without a hitch. And not needing any outside sync program was a cost savings too.

Overall, not a bad bargain for all those features.

Buy Compaq iPAQ 3150 Monochrome Pocket PC Now

The iPAQ is a worthy machine in most points, it's 206 Mhz processor gives it much more power than other PDA platforms, even when WindowsCE is essentially slower than PalmOS or similar systems, in this system it flies and you gain all the confortable handlign and options you get with WinCE.

Pros: Durable metal construction wich gives the unit a great look.

Prebuilt in LiIon batteries wich save you the worry of constantly purchasing batteries or exchanging externally rechargeable ones.

It is very fast.

The interface, and included programs are more than basic, it bring programs for MANY basic jobs, more than similar PDAs. And some software like the new version of Windows Media Player have a beautyfull easy to use interface.

Cons:

The stylus casing is slightly precarious, if you push your stylus in with too much pressure it'll become jammed in it's socket causing some trouble to get it out again.

The screen has a very very good resolution but the contrast even at it's highest level is not much so peopel with poorer vision would have troubles reading the screen.

The character recognition system is very fast BUT it would be very troublesome for a pilot user to learn since the signs are diferent and to my oppinion less intuitive, also for it's speed in recognizing characters I feel it quite less acurate than the pilot based versions and the input glyphs for leters like G are really cumbersome.

Basically this is a sweet unit, very expansible, very configurable and that even from the box brings enought functionality to keep you busy and organized for a good long time.

Ps. If you want a device that will still work for a few years for a cheap price, with very good response this is it... if you have more money to spend, and time to use it and wait I'd suggest one of the newer H68xx line models, wich being newer and having a diferent expansion connector will see expansions for a longer time in the future.

This is, quite simply, the best grey-scale PDA on the market. Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3150 offers all the features of the color iPAQ Pocket PC H3600 Series at a very competitive price. Easy expansion and customization through Compaq Expansion Pack System (not included).Thin, lightweight design with backlit monochrome screen. Audio programs from the Web, MP3 music, or voice notations. Rechargeable battery that gives up to 14 hours of battery life. Protected by Compaq Services, including a one-year limited warranty. Processor 206-MHz Intel StrongARM SA-1110 32-bit RISC Processor Memory 16-MB SDRAM, 16-MB Flash Memory Interfaces Front Panel Buttons 5 buttons plus 5-way joystick.

Want Compaq iPAQ 3150 Monochrome Pocket PC Discount?

I owned an ipaq 3150 for about two months before I decided that it was just too big to be practical. I needed a device that would fit comfortably in my pocket... I guess I figured that I could get by with 16 mb and not need to use the expansion sleeve. But the memory dissappeared rapidly and I discovered how bulky the thing is with the sleeve on. Bulky and heavy. I really enjoyed my use of this PDA, however; the large screen is nice for Ebooks and photos, if you can stand the monochrome display. If you can get by without the sleeve, the PC itself is quite sleek and attractive. I bought it in the first place because it seems less expensive than it's color relatives, but recently prices have plummetted and a thinner machine with a color display is no longer unaffordable.

This is a great product. However, I dropped mine in October, 2001. Compaq has sent it back TWICE without doing anything to it, AND the repair was prepaid. Bottom line is Compaq and Customer Service are mutually exclusive terms. I don't care how highly a Compaq product is rated. I will never buy anything that says Compaq again.

PalmOne m505 Color Handheld

PalmOne m505 Color Handheld
  • Built-in 8 MB memory stores thousands of contacts, appointments, to-do items, and notes
  • Displays over 65,000 colors--view photos, video clips, and more
  • SecureDigital/MultiMediaCard expansion slot for additional memory and functionality such as a dictionary/thesaurus, games, and more
  • USB cradle allows faster HotSync operations
  • Windows and Macintosh compatible--includes desktop software for both platforms

Much has been written about the poor display on the m505. As the owner of a Cassiopeia E-125, and a former owner of both a Palm IIIc and the Handspring Visor Prism, I think I can help make sense of it all. For ease of reference, here they are in the order of brightness of the display:

1. Visor Prism -Absolutely the brightest Palm display out there, including the new Clie n710 and 610 models from Sony. It's active-matrix back-lit display is bright and text is very readable. The expandable modules are a great idea, but I never took advantage of any of them. My only complaint about the Prism is that is was just too darn big and heavy. It's a bit boxy, and just felt like a weight when carried in a shirt pocket. In sum, awesome screen, but mediocre form factor still makes this a winner.

2. E-125 -If you're in the market for a PocketPC, I think this is the way to go. The screen is gorgeous, and Microsoft's clear type font technology is really something. The display has more colors, and is larger than Palm displays, allowing you to really spend some quality time reading books or playing games. The new Windows Media Player 7.1 is also a vast improvement over former versions, and transferring audio files to the unit is a snap. Sound quality is very good, too. I personally prefer the Palm OS -from running apps to hot-syncing, it's so much simpler and faster. Plus, the PocketPC platform is not nearly as stable in my experience. Programs tend to crash far too frequently, usually taking the entire OS down with it. It's also very easy to have too many apps running at once (not all of them have File/Exit menus), leading to a crash when you run out of memory. Finally, although the units do a whole lot more than the Palms, they are also much bigger -no fun at all to carry in a pocket.

In short, if you are really intrigued by the PocketPC -hey, different strokes. But if you're a Palm user and happy with the platform, there really isn't a reason to switch, unless multimedia is essential ....

3. Palm IIIc -not as many out there as there used to be, but still worth a look if you can find one. Zippy and attractive, this unit is relatively bright and clear, but not nearly as bright as the Prism. One thing the IIIc and the Prism have that the m505 does not is a brightness control (hold down the power button and the brightness meter appears, giving you control over whether to save power or let it shine). But it comes standard with a serial cradle (ugh!) meaning you'll have to pay extra for a USB cradle, and it's a bit boxy and has a plastic feel to it for my taste. The model has also been discontinued, raising questions about investing in old Palm technology.

4. Palm m505 -First, I must address the rumors that units manufactured outside the U.S. (i.e., in Hungary) are not as bright as the U.S. models. I've seen both U.S. and Hungary models, and there is no difference in the brightness of the display. Check out the m505 FAQs at Palm's web site, where they address this by stating that the rumors are false, and that identical components are used regardless of where manufactured.

Next, it's true, this display is the worst of the four units discussed here. But if you consider this model as an m500 (the monochrome version) with color, you won't be disappointed. Side by side, the m505 is much easier to read from all different angles than is the m500. And the color really does enhance the user experience, especially when the unit comes with a terrific app like MGI's mobile photo suite. Who wants to see digital pix on a grey-scale Palm? For the extra $... that Palm charges for a color display, it's just a no-brainer. Color is worth it! I also found that after a few days using this model, my eyes adjusted to the screen, and it was a pleasure to use. Still, Palm might have found a better balance between power conservation and the birghtness on this display -they erred on the side of conservation, which, based on the reviews right here on Amazon, wasn't the way to go to satisfy most users.

Notwithstanding the slightly disappointing screen, the m505 is my choice for daily use. For one, it ships with v.4 of the Palm OS and Desktop for Windows, as well as numerous other bonus apps (Palm Reader, AOL for Palm, and Documents to Go v. 3, to name a few). It also comes standard with a USB cradle, and is both PC and Mac compatible (as are Visors, but not PocketPCs or the Sony Clie, which are PC only).

The m505 also offers the SDD/MMC slot for memory and software cards, and neat innovation that works like a charm (my m505 came with the GamesPack card).

Finally, the m505 carries on the legendary form factor of the V/Vx models, which ultimately makes this the best PDA for me. Even with the optional Palm slim leather m505 case, the entire thing fits in my shirt pocket with room to spare. It's tiny and attractive, and every button has wonderful, snappy tactile response. The thing just feels great in your hand, and the craftsmanship really shows.

The bottom line -you've really got to go out to a retailer and compare these babies side by side. This model won't be for everyone, especially folks who want to read novels or write lengthy documents directly on their Palm device. For everyday contact and schedule info, and occasional reading and writing, the m505 is a definite winner in my book. A slightly brighter screen would make it perfect and worthy of 5 stars!

It took me a few days to get used to the different screen technology, as I upgraded from the IIIc (you know, the one so bright you can signal aircraft with it). You just have to get accustomed to the silver background instead of white, which is why it looks milky white with the frontlight turned on.

However, I'm facinated in that the screen is clear and readable no matter what the lighting situation may be. When walking down a corridor or past windows, you never 'lose' the image like I did on my former greyscale and color devices. There was also no hint of streaking or banding.

Enough about the screen. The reason I bought it was because of the expansion. I can now travel with EVERY application I need, including my spreadsheets, relational databases, ebooks, and mapping software. I could only fill it up by loading multimedia clips and movie trailers. When it comes to making sure your data is safe, I can now carry a full system backup in my wallet. You insert the backup card in your Palm and two buttons pop up on the screen; Backup and Restore. Forget the manual! I should probably mention that you can put more than just Palm files on the card. Just drop any file into the Palm installer, send it to the card, and you have it with you. An extra trick when you get to that out of town meeting? Click on that special file and email your materials as attachments using McFile.

I don't really have to mention size, you can slip it in your pocket without looking like you are stealing bricks for your diveway. Even though it is more solid than other handhelds I've owned (this is my 5th), I find myself being more careful due to it's size.

One thing I was not expecting was the extra speed. If you don't know anyone with a Pocket PC (I have friends and coworkers with them), then go down to a local store and try out a Pocket PC with the 505 by it's side. You will be surprised by how sluggish most of them seem. I had to use a utility to slow the Palm down to get the responsiveness of the PPC's (HP Jordana was used in actual testing). Taking that same utility, you can crank the speed up to 50Mhz, which is the equivalent of above 300Mhz on a Pocket PC, and really watch it fly. Watch the battery though... you don't get as good mileage with your foot on the floor like that.

Hotsyncing was also drastically different. A normal hotsync take 12 seconds. Sometimes I do it twice because I did not see the first one, even though it says it did. A full reload from the desktop computer used to take me about 55 minutes. A reload to the M505 takes 9 minutes, including backup and verification.

On the downside, the battery life is not as good as the IIIc, which had a huge battery. Size does have it's tradeoffs, and Palm would have had to give up the expansion slot or vibrating alert to get more battery in there. Most users can expect about 2 weeks of use from a single charge, if they they don't watch too much video. But I should also mention that this is a concern only if you hotsync once every two weeks. The M505 soaks up a charge faster than any device I've known. In testing, it went from a 10% battery level to 53% in two minutes. Given time to stabilize, the voltage level evened out at 48%, so I imagine you would have to purposely avoid the cradle in order for the thing to even get low in the first place. If you do kill the battery by ignoring the many warnings which begin at 10%, it will not turn on. This is to protect your data, which will be safe for another week... but THAT'S something I'm not going to test!

This is my third Palm, so I am obviously sold on the usefulness of the little machines! If you are a busy person--not necessarily a BUSINESS person, but a person who has a busy life, and has to remember lots of information, keep lots of appointments, etc., I believe you will fall in love with these devices if you try them. I use mine for the traditional purposes of keeping track of appointments and recording phone numbers, but also to put reminders to myself in the future, such as "rebalanace mutual funds in IRA" twice a year. I also use this as a memory bank for odd little bits of information I may find useful, by recording the information in a note, along with several key words I will think of when I want to remember the specifics months later. I search for the keywords, and there is the note, displayed so I can see it.

As to the specifics of this particular Palm, the two main advantages it has over the Palm V series are color, and the ability to use memory cards that can be inserted into the device. Bluntly, I am unimpressed with the color. You can use Palm m505 to display color photographs, but the display is not bright enough or large enough for this to be a good way to show off your pictures. I have hopes that the color will be useful when I acquire mapping software later, but I haven't done that yet.

So far I haven't used the memory cards as anything but an expanded memory, but Palm and other providers are already offering memory cards with all sorts of programming included--Huge databases of tourist information on cities, maps, game programs, and all sorts of things. It looks like this will be good, if your needs extend to that.

I highly recommend this product if you are buying your first PDA, or if you have a very old one (Palm III or something) you want to upgrade. If you have a Palm V or Palm Vx, I'd suggest waiting to upgrade unless you have a burning need for the memory cards.

I bought my Palm m505 in Sept. 2001, now it is less than 5 months later and I have experienced the Hot Sync problems everyone else is talking about. When I contacted Palm, they said they know about the defect and have corrected it, but in the meantime, I spent $478 for a NEW palm pilot that DOESN'T work and the only thing Palm will do for me is send me (at my cost of $25) a REFURBISHED replacement. Seems like someone is getting a good deal here, and it's not me. I will never buy a Palm product again. Additionally, the color screen is terrible without the backlight on. I am sorely disappointed.

I used to have a Windows CE device, the Nokia 9110 palmtop/mobile phone and still have a Palm IIIc. I read a lot of bad things about the M505 color display. After using it very often in the last couple of weeks (car travel, planes, office, etc.) I can't believe that people say the display is a problem. This is far better then my PIIIc. For sure the contrast on the display are less impressive (you getting used to it) but it works in all light conditions. I only use the backlight in about 10% of the time. Sometimes you have to swivel the Palm screen towards a light source to read the display correctly without the backlight (it saves battery).. Outside, this display is incredible clear, with my PIIIc I always had to increase the intensity of the screen to see something.

It is also much faster then the PIIIc, this M505 is really fast. The software included with it is really cool, easy to use Excel and Word document reader. Ebook, Photosuite software to name a few.

Because of the negative commands on this site on the M505 I almost bought a M500. Lucky I didn't do because I heard now that the M500 is slower (It has the same processor but the screen updates slower).

Compared to the PIIIc, I would say the M505 is:

Smaller with less weight. (it fits in my wallet).

Faster.

More software.

Integrated SD slot is really useful, I never thought it would be (8Mbyte RAM with a few family pictures is could becoming a problem).

Better display ( better in both very dark and bright light situations). Even in this small size, the battery get me running for longer then 10 hours, thanks to Color LCD technology Palm is using (simular to the PIIIc).

Now I can write on my palm in complete darkness also because now my Silkscreen lights up.

This unit is ready for the bluetooth wireless technology, which will be available from Palm at the end of the year.

Faster USB hotsync transfer. (only important for Aventgo website syncing I found).

Rugged Universal Pouch Super Slim Clip

Rugged Universal Pouch Super Slim Clip
  • Approx. Inside Dim.: 4.125" H x 2" W x 1.125" D

Been an user of Rugged pouch over 3 years and it was the best and most durable case for my cell phone. After 3 years of use (or abuse) i decided to order a new one (old one has corners and label scratched, stitches up, but still in one piece). When arrived i inmediatly notice the lack of quality: the interior are not as soft as the previous (hell, even my 3 year old case is softer than the new one) and the walls are paper thin compared to the same model 3 years ago (because of this, an inperfection on the mounting of the clip that leaved a small bump scratched my screen).

I returned and luckyli get a replacement (i have to pay return fees). This second unit has the clip button perfectly atached. So i give it a try. But after less than 1 month of use, the clip is destroyed in pieces.

Bottom line, stay away of this pouch. The quality and durability is now garbage like

Great accessory for Jornada. Even has backlight so can be used in dark, adds little to no weight to Jornada and fits perfectly.

I have one of these pocket keyboards for my Hp Jornada 568, and while it is a great way to type on my jornada, it is missing one very important thing A CONTROL KEY ! It has shift, caps, numbers and a symbol key, but there is NO way to copy and paste text using only the HP keyboard, I have use the screen keyboard ctl-c and ctl-v or the stylus to copy and paste text. What HP needs to do now is release a driver update to provide a control key on the keyboard, since changing the actual keyboard now would not help the people who already have one, and they are not going to ship replacements to everybody.

Read Best Reviews of Hewlett Packard Jornada 560 Series Pocket Keyboard Here

I love my 568 and also purchased the pocket keyboard. I give only two stars because the keyboard hides the power and USB connectors. If you install the keyboard you have to run off of battery power and must remove the keyboard to use synchronize or recharge.

The manual is bad. You must remove the original cover of the Jornada to install the keyboard. The manual does not tell you how to do this.

Want Hewlett Packard Jornada 560 Series Pocket Keyboard Discount?

If you drop it, the cover and the hinges could come off. Good luck finding the hinges again! Now when I use my keyboard with my jornada, i have to do without a cover becasue those flimsy little hinges are long gone. And I overpaid for mine because I bought it ... at my local Brandsmart. Should have come to [Amazon.com], but it was an impulse buy. The keyboard also seems to add a lot a heft to the pocket pc, even though it doesn't feel that heavy on it own. Other than that, it's great. It beats the hunt and peck method you would otherwise have to use! And it lights up so you can use it in the dark.

  • Package includes (x2) 4 ft. and (x2) 6 ft. USB + Audio KVM cable kits (for longer length cables, choose Tripp Lite's P756-010 or P757-010)
  • Built-in 2-Port USB 2.0 hub allows USB peripherals to be shared amongst computers connected via USB KVM cable kits
  • Constructed of heavy-duty steel housing

  • Includes a built-in 2-Port USB 2.0 hub for sharing of devices amongst computers connected with a USB KVM cable kit
  • Package includes 4 USB + Audio KVM cable kits

Features, lots. All kinds of configuration options. Seems to do everything reliably. Has rack mount ears you can attach and that makes it easy to screw it underneath a shelf so it isn't just flapping around. Comes with 4 cables but the longest is 6 feet and that's not as long as it sounds. I had to rearrange a couple CPUs to make it fit.

The bad thing. Video resolution and contrast is NOTICEABLY worse with the KVM installed and a lot worse than the Trendnet 2-port I'm replacing. Have not decided whether I want to return it yet. Too expensive to have that kind of problem with only 4 feet of cable.

  • Built-in rechargeable lithium battery will hold a charge for up to 2 years, making it suitable for emergency use
  • Can be charged from sunlight, USB port or a wall plug

The concept of this Soladec Hybrid All-in-One Portable Solar Power Charger (SD4000LP) is good. Essentially, it is a battery-powered USB charger sized like a typical 7-inch tablet. Its internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery can be recharged either using the solar panel, or through external USB power port. Once charged, you can then use this unit as a portable charger for other USB-powered devices. The unit also features a powerful 6-LED flood light.

Since I'm an engineer, I just HAVE to open the case to see what's inside. I'm quite impressed by the high-quality components found (see the photo I uploaded to 'Customer Images' section):

The internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery is rated 3.7V 4100mAh (the product description says '4000mAh')

The LEDs are mounted on an aluminum-backed PCB. This is great for thermal dissipation (but you don't see this very often due to high cost)

The battery charging/discharging operation is controlled by an 8-bit microprocessor (again, you don't see this often due to high cost). This is very important because, without the correct charging algorithm, a Li-ion battery can be easily damaged by over-charging.

I then tested the unit electrically, and found it to work more or less as expected:

When you recharge the internal battery through a computer USB port, the charging current is at 500mA. This is limited by the current capacity of a standard USB port. So the charge time is around 8-9 hours.

When charging through an external 5V 1A USB power adapter, the battery charging current increases to 0.69A. That means the charge time is reduced to around 6-7 hours.

When charging with the solar panel, the highest charging current I can get is ~350mA. This is under optimal test condition of bright summer sun at noon time, with the panel perpendicular to the sunbeam. In real life, it will take at least two full days of direct sunlight to recharge the internal battery. Also note that if you place the solar panel inside your car, the charging current is cut by half because the car window filters out most of the UV light.

Next, I tried to use this Soladec unit to recharge different types of USB-powered devices. The outcome varies according to the power requirement:

When charging a low-drain USB device (such as the Philips GoGear Aria MP3 Player), the USB device is powered up correctly, but the Soladec's LED indicator light does not cycle to show 'charging in progress'

When charging a medium-drain USB device (such as the Nintendo DSi XL), the device is powered up correctly, and the Soladec's LED indicator cycles to show charging in progress.

When powering a high-drain USB device (such as the VIZIO 8-Inch Tablet VTAB1008), the Soladec's LED indicator still cycles normally, but its output current fluctuates wildly because the maximum current limit is exceeded. This may cause the receiving device to get confused as it constantly enters and then exits charging mode. Actual maximum output current I measured is around 0.81A, even though the product manual says only 0.5A. So at least the product is performing better than specified.

When ON, the LED light draws 200mA from the battery. This means a runtime of 20 hours. However, I'm skeptical about the advertised light output of '170 lumen', as it requires an amazing efficacy of over 200 lumens per watt.

On the other hand, I have noticed some major design flaws with this Solardec charger:

1. There is no on/off switch. The push button switch beside the LED light does not turn off the whole system, only the light. The system is constantly drawing a 3mA standby current from internal battery. Simple calculation shows that this standby current will drain a 4100mAh battery in less than 2 months. So although the product description says the built-in battery will "hold a charge for up to 2 years", in real life you have to recharge it every single month, if you intend to use it in case of emergency.

2. The case is not weather-sealed in any way. In particular, there are no rubber caps for the two USB ports on top. So if it rains, water can easily get in through those openings. That makes it dangerous to leave this solar charger outdoor exposed to direct sunlight. The only safe way is to place it underneath your car's windshield. But doing so also cuts down the solar power by ~50%. So now it takes 4 days to fully recharge the internal battery by solar panel.

CONCLUSION:

The Soladec SD4000LP is a good attempt with quality components inside. But unfortunately, the two major design flaws mentioned above make it less useful either as an emergency power source or as an outdoor solar charger. It does work well as a LED work light, but that can hardly justify its high price tag. That's why I can only give it a 3-star neutral rating, meaning "It's Okay".

[Side note on capacity]

Is the capacity of internal battery (4100mAh) sufficient for you? That depends on the USB device you intend to recharge. For example, my POLAROID 7" INTERNET TABLET has an internal 3000mAh Li-ion battery. So on first glance, the SD4000LP contains more than enough energy to charge up my tablet from empty to 100%. However, the battery charging process has to go though two conversion steps. First, the 3.7V from internal battery is boosted to 5V at the USB port. Next, the 5V is stepped down to around 4V to recharge the tablet battery. Even if each conversion step is 85% efficient, you still lose 30% of energy in the process. That's why you always need 1/3 higher capacity than the device you want to recharge.

The biggest problem I found with solar chargers is they never get your phone past 50%, this is the only charger I have found that will take it to 100% in the same amount of time as a wall charger. The battery in the solar unit takes 7 hours to charge plugged in and 12 hours to charge using solar, and it never has any problems keeping up with any of my devises.

I'm a hiker and I'll use the GPS on my iPhone 4S to navigate through to wood in the Sierras, and for all of you iPhone 4S users out there you know how short the battery life can be, it actually drops off on average a percent a minute so I needed a heavy duty solar charger. Even with the high power consumption, as long as I stay plugged in my phone never drops below 100%, even at night when I'm using the GPS and the rediculiously bright light all nigh long. The light is also amazing, from a 12 hour charge it will run 18 hours and will stay bright the entire night. So to sum it all up, I actually couldn't pull more power than it could put out, it always felt like there was a wall outlet in my tent becouse no matter what I did I couldn't kill the thing! It was well worth every penny spent

This is an excellent product. The flashlight is super bright and lasts all night long (if you don't use all the battery for charging your devices). I live on an off-grid sustainable organic farm in Hawaii and I use this every night for reading. It's the first solar USB charger I've ever owned so I have none to compare it with but I am very satisfied and this little gadget meets my particular needs. Hope this is helpful. Oh, and I use it to charge my HTC Resound cell phone.

Update: It does require full sunlight for best results. And now that I'm in a new location that doesn't receive full sunlight it requires much longer to charge a device.

This is for all you iPhone 4S users out there...if you're like me, your phone keeps dying in the middle of the day or when your day isn't anywhere near over and it gets pretty frustrating pretty quick.

This my friends is the solution to all of our problems... be honest I wasn't expecting a whole lot from a solar powered backup battery charger for my iPhone 4S, but on a full charge this thing...it really does replace a wall socket.

I would highly recommend this backup battery for anyone who is tired of their iPhone battery dying on them.

Protronix 2-in-1 Capacitive Touch Screen Stylus & Ball Point Ink Pen for iPad 2 & iPad 3 (2-Piece Se

Protronix 2-in-1 Capacitive Touch Screen Stylus & Ball Point Ink Pen for iPad 2 & iPad 3Lets face it, with something like this you get what you pay for. I didn't see the point in spending $20-$30 on a stylus because like pens, I tend to lose them. The price point was acceptable especially because it came with 2 of them. That said... the pen part of the stylus is a piece of junk.

The silver point where the head of the pen comes out has already popped out on one of my pens so I can't even use it anymore and they don't just screw back in. It uses a compression band on the inside of the shaft to hold that tip on and it has proven impossible for me to get it back together.

That said, at $5 or so... yeah, I'd buy the piece of crap again because while it works, it works and when it doesn't I've got a backup. ...both of which look professional and stylish. When it falls apart on me, I have spare ink cartridges for my quality Cross pens.

The pen writes OK, and the stylus part is replacable that's a tremendous plus.

Eventually that little rubber tip will break and you'd be stuck if it weren't.

Unfortunately the spring in the pen is badly designed and when I was taking the pen apart for this review it got twisted up and broke preventing either it's removal or replacement of the ink.

I'll contact the manufacturer and post their response here when I get it. Everyone can get a lemon once in a while what the seller does to fix the lemon is often more important than the fact that you got one.

UPDATE!!!! Seller sent me not one, but two replacement pens so he could replace the correct color one. He did this free of charge and INSTANTLY!!! this is an A+++ seller and he deserves your business.

Sometimes you get a dud, but when your vendor corrects this at his own expense without question, that seller deserves high praise!

Skque STYLUS PEN FOR TOUCHSCREEN PHONE

Skque STYLUS PEN FOR TOUCHSCREEN PHONEBest stylus for the price, highly recommend, yea maybe u could spend more and get a better one, but for the price and for moderate use this works just fine, and I'm not kicking myself in the ass for spending more money on a "stick"-that's all it really is a stick with a capacitive tip, so how different can expensive one be? for less than 10$ including shipping it comes right to your door ready to use and it works absolutely fine, it has a nice clip on it so u can clip it somewhere and not loose it, and it has a really really light feel with a nice "chrome" shine. I really don't have anything bad to say about it, it's pretty small so if ur expecting it to be the size of a pen guess again, it's thinner and maybe an inch and a half shorter, which I actually like now that I've been using it for a while now. It's great for clicking small links on pages or just punching in a couple of numbers on the key pad, it's just nice to have one if you need it and especially since it's so in inexpensive, u won't feel bad if u dont use it All the time. So all in all I love it, havnt tried any other stylus though but this one is fine for a couple of bucks. So give it a try for the $ it dosnt really matter.

HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC

HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC
  • Dazzling Transflective TFT color (over 65,000 colors) with LED backlight display
  • Removable/rechargeable 900 mAh Lithium-lon battery
  • Secure Digital memory card slot for transferring and storing music, picture and more
  • 200 MHz Intel PXA 250 processor
  • iPAQ H1910, slim removable battery, USB synchronization cable, AC and charging adapter, quick-start user's guide, HP iPAQ Pocket PC CD-ROM

I have mixed feelings about my HP1910. Overall, I like it and I carry it with me most of the time. What I don't like about it, though, is its battery life but I am getting a little ahead of myself.

I obtained it to replace my HP Jornada 568 when it malfunctioned. The 568 was a great device that I used primarily as a phone book and a book reader, with occasional MP3 playing, gaming, and note taking. I really liked my Jornada and was upset when it died.

What originally attracted me to the 1910 was its price and its size. At ... list price, it is one of the lowest cost Pocket PC's available. There may be 1 or 2 others avail for less, but I was rushing to find a replacement and this was one that I could obtain quickly.

Sizewise, it is smaller than all Pocket PC's I've ever seen and even smaller than some Palms. For sure, it is smaller than the Palm 100 series, being about ½ inch shorter, about ½ inch thinner, and about the same width. It's very light and is almost unnoticable to carry. I never thought I could be able to say that about any Pocket PC.

So, with the low price and the smaller size, I purchased it with the expectation of fewer features than my Jornada.

One very pleasant surprise was the quality of the screen. Although the 1910 was significantly smaller than my Jornada, the 1910's screen was exactly the same size the Jornada. The best part was the 1910's brightness and vibrancy of the colors. At the lowest backlight setting of the 1910, it's screen was as bright as the Jornada at its maximum setting. Another pleasant surprise was the sound quality, both recording and playback.

Although not a surprise, another good feature is the removable battery. Additional batteries are availible for purchase as well, so I can do this without having to send the device back to HP. My Jornada has this also, but the IPaq family of devices usually didn't provide replacable batteries before the HP-Compaq merger.

As for the compromises, I list as many as I can . This list is kind of long, most of them are minor to me, although a couple of them do bother me. I include them so that someone who chooses this device will have a idea what they are getting themselves into:

The CPU is an xscale processor running at 200 MHz. This is supposed to have comparable performance to other pocket PC's featuring the arm processor running at 206 Mhz like the Jornada. However, the 1910 is quite noticably slower at some tasks than the Jornada, but not always. For instance, MP3 and game playing seem to be at roughly the same speed, but paging through lists of file names or through documents seems slower. Accessing files on the storage card is slower as well. Some utilities are starting to appear to allow users to change this to a faster setting.

The total amount of RAM available to users for storage and program running space is a little less (48M instead of 64M) than with other Pocket PC's.

The ROM memory has also been reduced somewhat from other Pocket PC's. The impact of this is that the Microsoft Media Player and the Microsoft Book Reader applications do not come pre-installed like on the other Pocket PC's. To use them, they must be installed in RAM, which reduces the RAM available for other programs even more.

Although the device has a SD slot for an SD card, it cannot be used for SDIO devices, only for SD memory at present. There are rumors that a coming update will change this, but don't count on it.

Although the 1910 has great sound playback, the headphone jack is subminiature rather than miniature. This is not standard for most headphones including all headphones that I own. There are earbuds included with a matching plug, but if you would rather use your own, you will probably need to get an adapter from Radio Shack.

Due to a missing serial interface, it is unlikely that a external keyboard will ever become available for the 1910 except for one that uses the IR interface as its mode of communication.

Although a power adapter and a sync cable is included, there is no docking cradle or a case included with the device. The docking cradle must be purchased separately. Cases are just recently becoming available. I've been using a leather case designed for the Palm m100 series that seems to be working well.

The usable battery life was probably my biggest disappointment with the 1910. Perhaps I am spoiled, coming from the Jornada with lots of battery life, but I am seeing typically between 2-3 hours of usable time per charge. Because of this, I find myself not using the device as often as I might out of concern for using up the battery. This mostly hurts my note taking activities. I may try to obtain another battery to see if the battery life is better. There are some users who are claiming to get 4-5 hours of use per charge. I would be happy if I could match that.

Most 1910 screens are not completely aligned with its case, causing a very slight amount of tilting. This doesn't bother me, but there are some people that are quite annoyed by this.

I've had my Jornada repaired since obtaining the 1910, but the 1910 is the pocket PC that I carry around with me. It's easier to carry in my pocket and easier to see and it's less conspicuous when I use it in public.

If you are looking to use a pocket PC for networking, internet access, or using other peripherals, then this is not the device for you. However, if you are not looking to connect to other external devices and plan to use this for PIM activities, book or document reading, or light to medium gaming, this device might be just the ticket for you.

Buy HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC Now

I've been a Palm and Pocket PC user for several years and have had several of them, and I'm a big believer in them. They are great organizer and productivity tools for the busy business person, professional, student, or anybody who needs to be better organized. Next to my car perhaps, my PDA is the most useful piece of technology that I own.

This is the best PDA HP has come out with yet. It's slightly smaller, lengthwise, than the other major Pocket PCs from Compaq, Casio, Toshiba, and Viewsonic, and at 1/2 inch thick, has one of the slimmest profiles, and is significantly thinner than the Palm Tungsten and Sony SJ30 models, which are about 1/2 inch shorter in terms of length. It would fit nicely in your front shirt pocket, where I like to carry mine, the first Pocket PC really small enough to achieve this.

The unit fixes some of the problems with the early HP Jornada models, which only had 16k colors compared to the other Pocket PCs, which had 64k, and the dimmest screen. I compared this screen side by side with the Toshiba, Palm Tungsten, and Sony PEG T665C and SJ30, and it's just as bright as those. The only problem I could see was that with the unit in power save mode with the backlight off, the screen is somewhat darker and harder to read than the others, but it's okay. The screen doesn't seem to have the slightly milky appearance to it that my Compaq iPAQ 3650 has, which has a partially back-reflective screen. This is supposed to be a transreflective screen, but I'm not sure how that differs from mine, or if it does.

The only shortcomings are it only has one expansion slot instead of two, like the iPAQs do, and some options aren't available yet like on some of the other units, such as a case, keyboard, and so on. There aren't screen protectors specifically for it, but my iPAQ's screen protectors might fit it, since the screens look to be the same size. But you'd need to check that to make sure. Screen protectors are essential because, although normally the stylus doesn't scratch the screen, all it takes is one piece of grit to get trapped under your stylus and then try to write something, and then you have a big scratch on your nice new screen.

Someone here mentioned the 200-MHz processor was slow, compared to the 400-MHz processor in the Compaq, Dell and other models, but I doubt most people would notice the difference. This processor should be more than adequate for most people's needs. It's the same with the Sony PEG models. Although the new T655C and T665C Palm platform models have a 66-MHz processor compared to the earlier T615C, which only had a 33-MHz processor, I've compared all of these and couldn't really seem much difference, if at all, as far as regular use goes.

Overall, this is a fine PDA and should provide some major competition for the popular Compaq iPAQ and other Pocket PCs.

I've had my iPAQ 1910 for about 2 weeks and I am 100% satisfied with the unit and what it came with.

Some of the reviews that complained about the lack of a docking cradle (don't need it) and how the software to hot sync (ok, I'm an old Palm user) with your pc stink are both very much over stated.

The 1910 comes with a charger with a USB connection. I just lay the 1910 on my pc's tower where it is safe and out of the way, when hot syncing. The cradle on my Palm was always in danger of getting knocked over (once after knocking it over I had to buy a new cradle because a little plastic piece broke off and could not be glued back on).

This unit is slimmer and lighter than the Palm Vx. I like that it has the capability to replace the battery. The Palm Vx I had to replace after 3 years has an internal battery and guess what? I found out that lithium batteries typically last about 3 or 4 years and in the Vx can't readily be replaced (supposedly the factory might be able to).

Besides the weight and size, it was the great color that really impressed me. I looked at the Palm Tungsten and other color Palms and they looked washed out to me (and cost about the same as the 1910).

Want HP iPAQ 1910 Pocket PC Discount?

I recieved an HP iPAQ 1915 as a gift at the end of last year, and it's great. The only difference between my 1915 and the 1910 is that the 1915 supports SDIO. But the 1915 is very hard to find, so this is the closet thing to it. If you need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, this does not have it and a card for that feature will not work without the SDIO slot. So if you need those features, look at higher end models.

I am a big computer person, and this is MY first PDA, although other people in my family have had them, and it's great. One of the things I use mine for is basic organization using the included calander, tasks, contacts, etc. The programs are done very well, the files take up little memory, and it takes little effort to record the info you need. But if you all you need is an organizer, there are much cheaper alternatives. If you use it for more, like me, then read on.

Those tasks don't show this PDA's true cababilities. So what does? Well, games of corse. And I don't mean tetris and solitare. Can you say Nintendo and Gameboy? Yes. If you get one of these, you can get an emulator for it, and it'll play your favorite Nintendo and Gameboy games flawlessly. Of course, to download ROMS, you need to legally own the actal game. But the picture is rich, and there is no lag unless you're multi-tasking or trying to run a more intensive emulator, such as Super Nintendo or Gameboy Advanced, neither of which I have tried. There are many games writen specificly for Windows CE as well, which should run well on it. The display shows all of these beautifully.

It can also play music! Download Windows Media Player from the included CD, and you can listen to WMAs or MP3s on it. Other progams can be downloaded or purchased that can play other formats. I use WinamPAQ to paly 80kbs ogg vorbis files, which maintain CD quality while being smaller than an MP3 file. The sound quality is superb, and under settings and audio, you can adjust the bass and treble. It goes pretty loud, but as any portable music player, heavy bass and high volumes will distort some. But my main complaint comes in here. A 2.5MM HEADPONE JACK. WHY HP!?!?!? This is smaller than most headphone jacks, which are 3.5mm. This means you'll have to use their bad included headpones, or buy and carry around a bulky converter.

An SD chip can be purchased if you plan on putting large programs, music, etc. on your iPAQ. They come in many sizes between 16MB and 4GB. 128MB-512MB should be sufficent for most people.

As far as specs, they are fairly good for the price. The 200Mhz XScale processor can run basic tasks very well, as well as some more complex tasks. But listening to music while doing other stuff can stress out this CPU, and performance will suffer. If you plan on multi-tasking, get a version with a better processor. The 1900 series come with 64MB of RAM, but only 46MB is available for the user because there is only 16MB of Flash ROM. So it requires some essential programs be loaded to RAM. The available 46MB is storage and temporary memory. If you want good performance try to leave at least 1/3 of the memory empty for programs to use temporarily. A slider in the memory setting allows the user to adjust this. But this ammount of memory can store thousands of word and excel documents, tasks, contacts, appoinments, etc.

All-in-all, it should be fast and versitile enough for most people. It is a good comprimise between price and features. And it is one of the smallest PDAs available with a 320x240 display. Those who need to run more intensive programs, have more features, etc. should upgrade to a higher end iPAQ. Those who only need basic organization features can get a low end Palm or dedicated elecronic organizer for a lower price.

I love this PDA! I will not rehash the technical specs everyone else has already talked about, but I would like to mention what I consider its most notable features, both pro/com:

(1) Very small and sleek. Easily fits in even a small pocket without bulging. Reasonable minds may differ, but the size and weight differences between the 1910 and my previous PDA (an iPaq 3650) and my wife's PDA (one of the new Jornadas) is *very* noticeable in day-to-day use.

(2) Decent speed/memory. Frankly, I sort of wish that the 1910 had one of the faster (300-400 MHz) processors. But in actual use I find it to be plenty fast for the uses I actually put it to. E.g., I can listen to MP3s using Media Player while surfing with Internet Explorer at the same time. I got used to the speed of my old 3650, and this one is approximately the same.

(3) Expandability. I bought an inexpensive 256 MB SD card for my 1910 and now I use it as a portable MP3 player (six albums stored in 96 bps WMA format) and photo album. Nice touch. Also frees up main memory for running applications, which keeps its overall execution speed up.

(4) No cover. This is something I am not entirely happy with. On the one hand, no cover/case means a smaller and lighter unit, which is good. On the other hand, no cover means no screen protection, e.g., when leaving it in my pocket playing MP3s, or when rattling around inside my briefcase. I think all in all I would have liked HP to include some sort of screen cover (like in its Jornada series) or at least an inexpensive basic leather(ette) case.

(5) No frills. No built-in wireless, no built-in camera, etc. If had wanted that stuff I would have bought a larger and more expensive model. But for what I use a PDA for (scheduling, contacts, cached Internet browsing and MP3 playing) the 1910 does it all; and I get to pocket a savings of a lot of money that I didn't want to spend on frills I would seldom if ever use.

Purchased this for my finance's phone. It was pretty simple to apply except when it was time to remove the film which covered the decal itself. The decal would pull off the phone as i removed the plastic covering. So I ended up just putting in mostly in place, removing the plastic then finalizing putting the decal on. She was iffy at first but then after she had it on the phone for a few hours she said it was growing on her. The quality of the decal itself is excellent, good thick layer over the phone. All cut outs matched well. My only improvement on decal itself is if it could be made to actually completely cover the phone, to include the sides. You still see plastic around the sides of the phone. I realize that is not so much needed for the protection of the phone but we purchased this decal more for the cosmetics of the phone then the protection. All and all worth what we paid for it.
