Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device

Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device
  • Sony HIDC10 Dash Personal Internet Viewer

People are expecting too much out of this device. It's not an ipad. It's a glorified alarm clock with apps. It is a great alarm clock that keeps time even after the power goes out. Most clocks would lose time but not this device it automatically reconnects to the router to reset time. Also if power is kept on and the internet is turned off it still keeps time so if your like me and your internet is spotty at times the clock will keep time even without internet access. I love listening to Pandora on it. The speakers are plenty powerful to rock out while playing some video games. Also there are 1000's of apps to download with many categories to cover. You can download weather, educational, sports, news, video game apps, and even different looking clock designs. I have facebook, espn, netflix, and Youtube myself on the dash. You can either look at them when you want or have them cycle through on a predestined loop. The touchscreen is responsive and it has a nice looking screen for watching videos. Also you can plug in usb devices and play music and videos on the dash from them. You can even link Pandora or other music apps to alarms so you wake up to your favorite tunes. One problem I had was linking my Netflix and Facebook accounts but with the help of the excellent and free Sony customer support I figured it out in no time. I am very happy with this device and plan on buying another for my other room. If your looking for an alarm clock with benefits then pick up this great device.

This device is FANTASTIC!

I am using this as a digital photo frame, wireless internet radio streamer, mp3 player, weather station, sports scoreboard, news and information provider and Netflix viewer!

I have the device connected to my wireless home network, and it has maintained a good connection for the several weeks I've had it. The LCD touchscreen is sharp and clear, and the unit is nicely built and sturdy.

This is a fantastic little device. I'm using it in my kitchen as a quick source of entertainment and news since my kitchen is closed off from the tv in the living room. I can watch hulu and Netflix videos and listen to pandora while I cook or clean. If you're looking for a tablet, this isn't for you but it's a pretty cool stationary entertainment device.

Want Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device Discount?

I got my Sony Dash as a gift shipped by Amazon.com. I know the gift cost only $89 and free shipping so watch out for sellers charging over $100. Even the Sony Store sells it for less than $100! I wanted the Dash to replace my traditional clock radio alarm. Sony was calling it a Personal Internet Viewer but if you visit the Sony Store, you will see they now call it the "Dash Information Alarm Clock". This is the better description. If you want an awesome alarm clock that has tons of cool Internet Apps, including Pandora, then this is the device for you. So far I haven't had any problems with adding or deleting Apps. The only problem I had was you need to register the device before it can be fully used, and the User Guide was not very helpful about what the device name is supposed to be to register it online. I contacted Sony Support and they sent me an eSupport URL link to a webpage that made it clear that you need to touch the "System" menu button on the device and it tells you the device name which is "My Dash" and a registration code, then you just enter this data into an account you setup to access your Sony Dashboard via a web-based interface. The Dash has a nice crisp display, good sound, and lots of information in a very powerful desktop device. If the power gets turned off, don't worry your Dash alarm settings and favorite weather information is saved, including all your App settings, when powered back on. I am very happy with my Sony Dash.

great potential but absolutely mediocre execution tied to proprietary Sony servers.

registration is pain but i though once that was done it would be a nice picture frame / alarm clock... that was until this am.

As of 9/15 Sony has pulled the plug on the servers so the dash can't authenticate and is essentially a paperweight. the unit has great potential but everything is tied to Sony servers so it can't even boot up without calling home. It can't change channels, apps, or do much of anything without calling home and with the home servers down it's not worth much of anything.

if you're thinking of buying one (even at the steep discounts) please don't as this is intricately associated with Sony's back-end servers somewhere that they really don't care about (abandoned). if/when the server go so will your purchase and it will become (no matter what condition) a useless slab of tech that can't be used for anything else (inspite of it's relatively nice screen / touch screen / speaker / industrial design).
