Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device

Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device
  • Sony HIDC10 Dash Personal Internet Viewer

People are expecting too much out of this device. It's not an ipad. It's a glorified alarm clock with apps. It is a great alarm clock that keeps time even after the power goes out. Most clocks would lose time but not this device it automatically reconnects to the router to reset time. Also if power is kept on and the internet is turned off it still keeps time so if your like me and your internet is spotty at times the clock will keep time even without internet access. I love listening to Pandora on it. The speakers are plenty powerful to rock out while playing some video games. Also there are 1000's of apps to download with many categories to cover. You can download weather, educational, sports, news, video game apps, and even different looking clock designs. I have facebook, espn, netflix, and Youtube myself on the dash. You can either look at them when you want or have them cycle through on a predestined loop. The touchscreen is responsive and it has a nice looking screen for watching videos. Also you can plug in usb devices and play music and videos on the dash from them. You can even link Pandora or other music apps to alarms so you wake up to your favorite tunes. One problem I had was linking my Netflix and Facebook accounts but with the help of the excellent and free Sony customer support I figured it out in no time. I am very happy with this device and plan on buying another for my other room. If your looking for an alarm clock with benefits then pick up this great device.

This device is FANTASTIC!

I am using this as a digital photo frame, wireless internet radio streamer, mp3 player, weather station, sports scoreboard, news and information provider and Netflix viewer!

I have the device connected to my wireless home network, and it has maintained a good connection for the several weeks I've had it. The LCD touchscreen is sharp and clear, and the unit is nicely built and sturdy.

This is a fantastic little device. I'm using it in my kitchen as a quick source of entertainment and news since my kitchen is closed off from the tv in the living room. I can watch hulu and Netflix videos and listen to pandora while I cook or clean. If you're looking for a tablet, this isn't for you but it's a pretty cool stationary entertainment device.

Want Sony Dash HID-C10 Internet Surfing Device Discount?

I got my Sony Dash as a gift shipped by Amazon.com. I know the gift cost only $89 and free shipping so watch out for sellers charging over $100. Even the Sony Store sells it for less than $100! I wanted the Dash to replace my traditional clock radio alarm. Sony was calling it a Personal Internet Viewer but if you visit the Sony Store, you will see they now call it the "Dash Information Alarm Clock". This is the better description. If you want an awesome alarm clock that has tons of cool Internet Apps, including Pandora, then this is the device for you. So far I haven't had any problems with adding or deleting Apps. The only problem I had was you need to register the device before it can be fully used, and the User Guide was not very helpful about what the device name is supposed to be to register it online. I contacted Sony Support and they sent me an eSupport URL link to a webpage that made it clear that you need to touch the "System" menu button on the device and it tells you the device name which is "My Dash" and a registration code, then you just enter this data into an account you setup to access your Sony Dashboard via a web-based interface. The Dash has a nice crisp display, good sound, and lots of information in a very powerful desktop device. If the power gets turned off, don't worry your Dash alarm settings and favorite weather information is saved, including all your App settings, when powered back on. I am very happy with my Sony Dash.

great potential but absolutely mediocre execution tied to proprietary Sony servers.

registration is pain but i though once that was done it would be a nice picture frame / alarm clock... that was until this am.

As of 9/15 Sony has pulled the plug on the servers so the dash can't authenticate and is essentially a paperweight. the unit has great potential but everything is tied to Sony servers so it can't even boot up without calling home. It can't change channels, apps, or do much of anything without calling home and with the home servers down it's not worth much of anything.

if you're thinking of buying one (even at the steep discounts) please don't as this is intricately associated with Sony's back-end servers somewhere that they really don't care about (abandoned). if/when the server go so will your purchase and it will become (no matter what condition) a useless slab of tech that can't be used for anything else (inspite of it's relatively nice screen / touch screen / speaker / industrial design).

Alpatronix Bluetooth Keyboard Folio Case for iPad mini, iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4 (the New

Alpatronix Bluetooth Keyboard Folio Case for iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4: Black wireless smart bluetooth keyboard caseAlpatronix has designed a nice folio for iPad that includes an easily removable, bluetooth keyboard. I've looked and tried several other far more expensive cases that included bluetooth keyboards such as the ZAGGfolio Keyboard Case for iPad 2/3/new iPad Carbon/Black and the Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard Folio for New Apple iPad 2 / 3rd Generation, HD, 1080P, WiFi, 4G LTE, AT & T, Verizon, and while the other cases are nice, they cost nearly three or four times as much. So if you're on a budget, this case should get your attention.

The keyboard is better than I was expecting at this price. One key point for me is that other keyboards I've used have a squishy feeling to them when you type. They flex too much and the key action just isn't right. This keyboard is much better than others I've tried. It is a slightly condensed size but I was able to quickly adapt.

The keyboard has many one-key shortcuts that let you navigate around your iPad with aplomb. It's now very easy to start playing music, change tracks, adjust volume, all from the keyboard. You can also adjust screen brightness easily and the "search" button lets you locate apps easily... all from the keyboard.

Pairing to the iPad was very easy and quick. Below the on/off switch is a row of LED's that indicate charging status and state of charge of the battery. Keyboard battery life is good and is easily charged with a micro-USB connection.

All is not perfect in Alpatronix land though. A couple things I notice when using the folio is that iPad will not stay upright in either of the two possible positions if the keyboard is removed from the case. The iPad just slips down since the slots that should prevent that from happening are too slippery and too shallow. So in order to prevent that you need to keep the keyboard attached to its magnets on the folio. The other issue was that my iPad did not always enter sleep mode when closing the folio. Apparently the magnet placement is off just a tad and when the iPad is oriented with the home button to the left, it doesn't always go to sleep. One other minor quibble is that the user guide uses a tiny tiny font that makes reading it a chore for my less than perfect eyesight.

Other than those concerns, this is one heck of a good value. The keyboard is great and really increases my productivity on the iPad. My iPad is also protected from damage when in the folio.

I considered many options when it came to purchasing a case and keyboard for my new iPad. I could not be more pleased with my choice as it is exactly what I was looking for. Especially the price! The keyboard is sturdy and easy to use and the quality of the leather case is what I wanted. I like that the keyboard is easily detachable and the angle of the iPad is adjustable. Thank you for a quality product at an affordable price.

Although I am keeping this product because it works for what I need it forit does not work for all iPads like it says. The box it came in says for iPad 2-the opening for the camera is in a different spot on the newer iPads.

Setting it up was simple and it works great as long as you don't need the camera it is well worth it!!!

I purchase this blutooth keyboard since my job has become more dependent on using my iPad to function. Other co workers have bluetooth keyboard made by other brands. They told me what I should look for in a keyboard. I did my reasearch and decided on this keyboard based on improving on other keyboards short comings. Also I have been please with other Alpatronix products. Now those coworkers all wish they had this one especially for the price.

Rolling Ave. i-Circle Multistand/Grip for new iPad, White (ICRW1)

Rolling Ave. i-Circle Multistand/Grip for new iPad, White
  • Sturdy, stylish and efficient easel stand and rear cover for the iPad 2, iPad 3, and the new 4th generation iPad (with retina display)
  • Works with or without Smart Cover. The iCircle displays the Apple logo on the back
  • Offers four positions: portrait, landscape, typing, and carrying
  • Precisely fits the iPad 2 and 3?as well as the new 4th generation iPad---with or without Smart Cover
  • Sturdy material provides protection while maintaining iPad's slim profile. The ring design offers a secure grip for carrying your iPad more safely

Having tried 2 or 3 different iPad cases for my iPad 2 I finally found one that I can use to stand the iPad up when watching videos and also easy to carry around comfortably. I've got the white iPad so I opted for the white case, protects it perfectly, strong but not clunky. I like the nice touch of allowing the logo to show through the back. All in all, happy with this one and for the price it's certainly doing its job and keeping my iPad squeaky clean and scratch free.

Would recommend to others.

The design of this multi stand is absolutly amazing!!! This is a MUST have for anyone that travels!!! I see people struggle all the time when flying on planes to get their IPad in a good typing position or viewing position for movies. This thing does it all and I am the envy of IPad users that sit near me!!!

There is no longer a need for bulky IPad covers and pads that fail to provide effective stand capability!!! This thing is light weight with no bulk added to the backside of the IPad. Yet, if you take a closer look very durable and protective!!! I love how you can use the circle as a grip when carrying your IPad around. It makes me feel safe knowing I have a frim grip on my IPad with no worry aboout accidental drops.

I am a musician and the keyboard angle is a perfect position for playing keyboards on the IPad!!! I also use it all the time in the upright position to show my guitar tabs and lyrics as I play. Musicians will love this thing!!!!

I love the height that it props the iPad up to for typing. I have had the case for a few months now and so far I love it.

Want Rolling Ave. i-Circle Multistand/Grip for new iPad, White (ICRW1) Discount?

i love it

it is the best case i have

i tried many and many cases but this is the best 5 in 1 (protect, handle, 3 stand phases)

the only bad thing is the price

i think it is expensive

because it is plastic!

Unit snaps firmly and securely into place, but easily removable (if needed) excellent iPad 'grip' function (with ring closed) sturdy and stable 'stand' function (both portrait and landscape) makes iPad keyboard use far more comfortable when in 'tilt' mode.

The twin hinges were well designed, the two small retainer magnets keep the ring from flopping out on it's own, there is a solid click into each of the 90ยบ positions, and there's even a thoughtful small rubber pad that helps keep your iPad from scooting when on a smooth surface (also, I presume, was designed to prevent scratching the surface upon which it's placed).

Not sure I'd sell this as a case per se (though if scratches on the backside metal iPad body are of concern, this unit does cover most of that).

I like it, would buy it again (one for my wife's mini?), and several of those who've seen it are getting one, too . . .

This case is very nicely padded. It seems well made and like it would protect my computer very well. Unfortunately, it was too big for my Samsung Series 9 13.3-inch Ultrabook (12.3 x 8.6 x 0.5 in). This one is advertised for the HP Folio, but it looks to be a generic sized case (same dimensions listed with every version "for" a 13.3 inch Ultrabook; check it out and see for yourself). I figured it would fit my Series 9, but it was about an inch and a half too wide; it fit the longest side, but my computer was sliding around inside. Plus all the extra protective padding made computer so bulky that it almost defeated the purpose of buying the Ultrabook. I'm returning it.

Moral of the story: don't buy for the Series 9. Get it if you have a slightly bigger computer and need the intensive bubble protection.

Alright, so with the onslaught of IPODs, PSPs, tiny phones, GPS' and all that stuff, I was trying to figure out EXACTLY what I wanted. I wanted something that could play videos, MP3's, cruise the internet, hook a GPS antennae up to, and play games. Eventually I decided on the dell axim x51V. Then Refurbdepot... well.. forget refurbdepot. I wound up with an iPAQ HX2750, which stat-wise, is pretty much the same. It connects to the internet pretty well, but isn't very good for "surfing" I can check my e-mail, and chat on MSN messenger, but the way the internet is, alot of websites don't support the windows mobile 5 browser. I picked up a foldable keyboard for it, and it's great to have around if I want to type something out. The battery is TERRIBLE. It won't stay charged for more then 24 hours even if I don't use it at all. After about 10 minutes of use, I have to reset it completely in order to turn it on. Syncing takes quite a while as well. HOWEVER, with a 2 SD cards, I have one for programs, and the other for songs, and a compact flash card for overflow, and pictures. I play old dos games on it (with pDosbox) I can type with it using a foldable keyboard I picked up. I have a pelican case waterproof case for it with a soft rubber front on it, so it's fine to take camping, even in extremely wet environments (I've used it in the middle of a sandstorm in Kuwait back in 03') I can bluetooth, IR, move SD cards around, and cable sync with almost any electronic device, which is very nice. I can put it in it's cradle, pop on slide show, and watch pictures of my son go by all day at work. It's very usefull, but if your looking for a toy, I don't think this is the device for you. If your a techno-junkie, well... you might like it. I would recommend getting some accessories to make life more enjoyable for you though: 1, holster. It's too big to keep in your pocket, and you can keep extra SD cards and whatnot with you. 2:some form of actual keyboard. There is a popup screen for one, but you can only type at about 15-20 WPM. With a mini-keyboard, you can type 'almost' as fast as you do with a normal one, until you get the hang of it. 3: 2 gig SD, and a 1 or 2 gig compact flash. 4:download pdosbox (it's free) if you like old dos games, like warcraft, Lands of Lore, or lemmings. 5: extra screen protectors.

I bought this sleeve even after reading all the the reviews. I have a Skinomi protector which covers the entire device so I wasn't worried about scratches. I make sure I take the cover off by gripping it closest to the spring release mechanism. I don't think it is worth $40. I think bought it with coupons. The magnets are a little weak but when I purchased it but I didn't expect strong ones as Asus recommends keeping the Prime away from magnets.

****I would like to edit my comment on it************

Broke after two months worth of use. Thank God I did not pay full price on it. Concept is great, product attachment is horrible. I was no rough on the cover as I had kept my Prime in pristine condition and was very careful with using it.

  • Compatible with handheld devices including the iPhone 3, 4, and 4S, iPod touch and other Bluetooth enabled smartphones.
  • Accommodates in portrait or landscape modes.
  • Able to detach from keyboard for portability and storability.
  • Able to snap together when not in use.
  • Serves as a stand independent of a keyboard.

The great things about this stand

portable, takes up almost no space and no additional weight in my bag

paired with an Apple bluetooth keyboard, gives you a really good looking, functional system with an iPad, iPod or iPhone.

The only nit I have is this I have a case on my iPhone (Magpul case) that is pretty thin the iPhone won't fit in the stand with this case on. Not a big deal because 99.99% of the time I use this with my iPad (note no case on my iPad, so I can't comment on whether that would be a fit issue).

These little clip-ons don't pretend to be more than they are and they work exactly as sold. They clip onto the Apple keyboard and allow my iPad to rest in a perfect angle for a "laptop" like experience. ..and they are kind of cute in their own little plastic clip way.

Want Ethic, LLC The WINGStand (White) (3009) Discount?

A little expensive for what it is (thus the four stars and not five), but works fine on my Apple Bluetooth keyboard. I use it to support either an iPad or iPhone, works in upright or landscape mode equally well. It does require sitting on a fairly firm surface, so not for your lap. Would work on a lap desk, though.

Don't get me wrong I love my iPad. But I'd tried a few keyboard cases and such, and they were just too small to really be able to type comfortably.

I received the iPad mini for Christmas and got myself the wingstand with an Apple keyboard, and now I find it indispensable as a work tool. No more lugging my laptop around (I know, I know a 1WP). I find myself looking for more and more excuses to use it.

PalmOne HotSync Serial Cradle (m125, m130, i705, Tungsten & m500 series)

PalmOne HotSync Serial Cradle
  • Quickly synchronizes information in your handheld to your desktop computer
  • One-touch HotSync button performs synchronization
  • For PC or Macintosh with serial port
  • Compatible with Palm m125, m130, i705, and m500 series handhelds

With the introduction of the new Palm m50x series, Palm needed to make a whole different type of "universal connector." With this new "universal connector," we get a new fangled cradle.

Palm's explanation for a new cradle and a new connector was to give true USB support to the cradle. Let's not forget that we'll have to buy all new accessories to cater to the new "universal connector." The question I ask is "Is it new functionality, or new sales they're after?"

Enough about my rant on the universal connector. Let's get to the cradle itself. It's different that the Palm V cradle (I compare it to the Palm V cradle since the m50x series is just following in the footsteps of that series.). First, it isn't slide in and out, like the old cradle. To take the Palm out, you have to lift up, then pull vertically up. To put it in, you have to put it in vertically, fumble around a bit, then once you hear the Palm beep, you can nestle it back in the cradle.

For people who don't know about the above process, I'm guessing you're going to break your Palm, so be warned.

Once you get the process down, it actually becomes second nature. Granted, I think it's a cumbersome process, but the unit stays in the cradle securely.

One issue that made me knock this cradle down to three stars (and this could be in conjunction with the Palm itself) but sometimes the unit doesn't charge fully in the cradle. You place the Palm in the cradle, the Palm makes the beep, and you think you're charging, right? You take it out th enext morning, go to work, and then you notice that your battery indicator is still int he same position. What's up with that? I've discovered that for the unit to fully charge (and sometimes HotSync correctly), you have to make sure the connection to the cradle is flush.

The product does give USB support, so the cradle does have a functionality. For me, personally, I wish Palm didn't have to give us a new "universal connector" every couple of years...

Buy PalmOne HotSync Serial Cradle (m125, m130, i705, Tungsten & m500 series) Now

I bought this cradle because I have to leave the USB cradle that came with my Palm M515 at the office. I chose a serial cradle for two reasons: all of my USB ports are filled at home and this cradle was significantly cheaper than a USB model.

I find that the cradle is quite a bit slower. This would be a problem if I did as many Hotsync operations at home as I do at the office. Since I only sync at home to updat my AvantGo data and to re-charge my Palm, this cradle works fine.

If you need a cradle for a situation similar to mine, don't waste your money on the more expensive USB model unless you're really impatient.

Read Best Reviews of PalmOne HotSync Serial Cradle (m125, m130, i705, Tungsten & m500 series) Here

there's a known problem with the USB cradles that they are extra sensitive to Electro Static Discharge. I fries both the cradle and sometimes the handheld (cooked my M515 yesterday for the second time). Look up Palm USB ESD on Google... Palm is going to replace my handheld again. The serial version of this cradle does not have this issue. If you ask Palm about getting a serial cradle back instead of USB they state you have to buy one.

Want PalmOne HotSync Serial Cradle (m125, m130, i705, Tungsten & m500 series) Discount?

The cradle is very finicky. The fit is not very tight and I have to press down on the top of the palm pilot to ensure the contacts are touching. Plus, it has it's own power plug AND the USB connection. I'd recommend the USB cable instead. It connects snugly, easily and is only one thing to plug in, plus very reliable long term. Charges fast too. This cradle just fell short all the way around.

This little device is the most sold out product in every store in the Silicon Valley. Without it you cannot sync your new Palm to Windows NT.

NT is fairly happy with it, aside from the SLOW sync rate which makes sync happy web clippings crawl, but it does its job to the best of its ability.

However after less than 6 months of use, the card has failed. I've tested it in multiple devices, to rule out a faulty device.

I'm disappointed that it failed after such a short time, and since I failed to keep the original blister pack, there's no opportunity for refund/exchange.

This stylus works just fine for the Asus Trasformer tablet. Now I can minimize finger prints. It is responsive enough but your finger still is more accurate most of the time. Plastic end on cord plugs into your empty headphone jack to keep it nearby and is a tight enough fit to feel it will stay there. Although it dangles around slapping your expensive tablet, I don't feel it will do any damage just don't swing it around to swiftly.

Nice little "pen"...does what it is supposed to and the little clip inserts into your headphone jack so you don't lose it. Very pleased...only complaint is that I ordered a red one and got a black onewith no explanation.

iGadgitz 'Portfolio Slimline' Black PU Leather Case Cover for Apple iPad 2. With Unique Lens Protect

iGadgitz 'Portfolio Slimline' Black PU Leather Case Cover for Apple iPad 2. With Unique Lens Protection System and Smart Cover Sleep Function + Screen Protector
  • Built-in flip stand function provides an ideal angle for viewing or typing.
  • Magnasleep Technology utilises magnets to secure the front cover and put your iPad to sleep
  • Unique felt lined camera lens protection system for rear facing camera. Magnetic clasp-free closure.
  • Contoured cut-outs designed to suit the specific needs of each control or port
  • Felt-lined leather/PU material gives your iPad a a stylish, slimline look.

As an iPad 1 owner, who recently acquired the new iPad (3), I wanted a case that was similar to Apple's original black, rubbery folio case. I also wanted protection for the rear camera lens glass on the new iPad.

This case is the closest I could find and it's "good enough". The rear camera is protected and the case adds little weight or thickness to my new iPad.

Although the case is listed as fitting the iPad 2, it works just fine with the new iPad. The magnetic closure/sleep mode doesn't work for me, but I didn't want that feature anyway I just wanted what I had for my first iPad, plus camera protection. Happy with this case.

Update, after 3 months the faux leather has cracked at the main "hinge point". Am now using a more expensive Moshi Concerti folio that offers protection for rear camera glass.

I love the case, my wife and I both got one, pink and one black. Her's works perfectly fine but my black one has a glitch where it turns off the display when opened all the way. (fron cover flat on the back) very odd. Again my wife's pink case, same company, works just fine she likes the case. And its a great price.

Sony Clie PEG-UX50 Handheld

Sony Clie PEG-UX50 Handheld
  • PDA with swivel screen and Palm OS 5 operating system
  • Integrated wireless LAN (802.11b) and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Widescreen 480 x 320 display
  • Built-in camera with 3x zoom for taking pictures and video
  • Built-in QWERTY keypad; weighs only six ounces

I have had an older Sony Clie for a few years. I was thoroughly impressed with that one. It served me well. I then had to replace it, and was solidly leaning toward another Sony product. The features of the UX50 series impressed me very much. But it does have some shortcommings.

Pros:

* Small size. Without a doubt, this is a great unit that fits nicely in my shirt pocket.

* Beautiful screen. It is clear and bright. It is a bit smaller than the older unit, but it is perfectly legible.

* Lots of internal memory. This means I can record a bunch of voice memo's or quick low-res pics from the built in camera w/o using a memory stick.

* Toolbar. There is a little toolbar along the side next to the silk to pull up commonly used features quickly. (like clock, speaker and memory stick media info)

* Built in Keyboard. I love it. It even has a backlight. Not too difficult to use, unlike smaller kbds on other units. The keys are slightly raised.

* Landscape working environment. The "silk" is along the side, and when not being used, the silk can be hidden giving an expanded screen to show text or other items in the silk area. This widescreen mode is a much more efficient use of screen real-estate.

* New handwriting recognition. Decuma is very natural, and has a very good recognition rate. But... see below...

* Rotate/Swivel screen. Use the unit as a micro-laptop, or as a micro-tablet.

* Bluetooth and WiFi. Very easy to setup and use.

Cons:

* This unit only works in landscape mode. I prefer holding the unit in my hand in portrait mode. There doesn't appear to be any setting in software to change this.

* The design favors wireless hotsync, since USB cable is very awkward to plug into side of unit. The cradle should provide the USB connection, and when inserted in the cradle, the USB connection is passed through the cradle (one less wire to insert)

* The battery life is terrible on the UX50 (even compared to the three year old unit I replaced). Perhaps the keyboard light uses up much more energy.

* The memory stick and stylus can come out too easily. I have nearly lost my stylus twice. The end of the memory stick protrudes just a bit too far, and can be easily unlocked.

* New Graffiti is difficult to get used to after a few years of proficiency with the old Graffiti. Some of the strokes are not as easy to use. Perhaps I'll get used to it, but my entry rate is significantly slower.

* Decuma takes up a large amount of screen space when used. There doesn't appear to be any way to shrink it. Also when in wide screen mode, decuma still only uses 2/3 of the screen (the rest of the screen is unusable)

* Decuma should be used in Portrait mode (replacing the Silk). This would free up more screen space, and would still be natural.

* The speaker mute feature should have a timeout, so I can mute for only 1/2 hour or so while in a meeting, but then get my audible alarms afterward.

* Cannot "type" special symbols from the keyboard. I use the bullet symbols all the time, but must enter them using graffiti.

I like the unit. Everybody I show it to is very impressed. The hardware is well designed. If they come out with software that fixes some of my above issues, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this above any thing else presently available.

I bought my UX-50 off eBay for about half the going rate of a refurbished new unit. Since I paid so little, I really don't have much to complain about. However, if I had paid $500 for a new-refurbished unit or $800 for a brand-new unit when the UX-50s were first released I probably would not have given a 4-star review.

Here are the positives:

I don't understand why so many people complain about the UX-50 only having a "landscape" screen option. I got used to using the landscape screen in no time. There are third-party programs you can download to convert some applications to portrait mode if you want, but I really didn't feel the need. Granted, the landscape screen means there's a lot of wasted space on the touchscreen, but I didn't have any problems using the screen as-is. I also think the screen size is AWESOME considering the features packed into this little gadget.

The functionality is, without a doubt, amazing. The UX-50 can replace your keychain digital camera, digital voice recorder, PDA, MP3 player AND you can check your e-mail with it! They managed to pack a lot of features into this little PDA.

Sound on the MP3 player is great. I have a Sony VAIO laptop that has a built-in Memory Stick port so it's really easy for me to put a ton of music onto my 512 MB stick and have music wherever I go. I have a Nomad MP3 player but I rarely use it because the UX-50's MP3 player is so easy to use.

The camera is great and takes good pictures in enough light. The zoom feature is neat.

The PDA functionality is exactly what you'd expect it works well. The UX-50 has enough internal memory for you to load lots of programs into it.

Negatives:

It took me a lot of tinkering and research to get the 802.11B wireless feature to work. Apparently there was some kind of problem with the wireless connection software in most UX-50s, and if yours has the problem you have to download a special program, called Mobile Manager, to get it to work correctly. Not that Sony tells you this I had to research it for myself on user bulletin boards. After a LOT of tweaking my wireless works sometimes. The mobile browser, NetFront, won't load graphics-heavy pages and is quick to give "insufficient memory" and timeout errors. Unfortunately there's no way to upgrade NetFront 3.0, which came with the UX-50, to NetFront 3.1.

Battery life truly does suck. I solved this by purchasing a third-party manufactured case and car kit off of eBay the case has a USB port integrated, so now I can plug the USB sync cable into the case's port and charge my Clie. The car kit consists of a USB cable and an adapter that fits my car's cigarette lighter. Now I can charge wherever I go, which helps greatly with the battery life issue. And I don't have to use the stupid "charging sled" to do it. Which brings me to my next point...

I would really like to know why Sony made a PDA that you can't charge with a USB cable. It seems ridiculous to me. Before I found the USB-port case I had to lug the stupid charger and sled around with me. The charger is bulky and the sled makes the UX-50 too thick to fit in a pocket or small purse. As it is, now I can't plug the UX-50 in and let it charge while I sync it throughout my workday, which is always what I've done with other PDAs. This was a really dumb design idea.

The only other negative thing is that some parts of the UX-50 feel flimsy I often feel like I am going to break the screen off rotating it back and forth, and the USB sync port has a small cover that feels like it could rip off at any time.

Overall, though, this is a great productivity tool and very nifty to carry around. It has a considerable "cool factor" and there's great functionality to boot. The negatives are bummers, but this thing is basically a mini laptop computer with a camera built in, so I don't expect everything to be perfect. I'm just bummed Sony's no longer going to be selling PDAs in the U.S. hopefully they will change their minds before my UX-50 dies or becomes obsolete.

I was one of the first to get on the Clie bandwagon, and I am continually impressed with each new Clie release. Sony has not let me down with the release of this new family of Clie.

The good things:

Wi-Fi (and bluetooth)!!!! It is built in so I don't need to get a $200 component to take advantage of my wireless network at home, at work, and several other wireless enabled sites I frequently visit.

I like the wide-screen feature of this Palm. I haven't seen any software conflicts with this so far but it makes looking at movies a lot nicer.

As with all the other Clie's, the fantastic high-resolution screen. This is what sold me on the Clie's in the first place. My pictures look so good that I don't carry pictures in my wallet any more. I also love the fact you can read an eBook without any eye strain. Best of all, this screen looks great in ANY LIGHT!!! In Las Vegas, I can turn off the back-lite and read off of the sun's lights beautifully. It does not matter the lighting, I've never had a problem looking at this screen. The ability to swivel it around for use is pretty handy and has raised a few oh's and ah's among my friends. I like the fact that you just turn it around after using it to protect the screen. It feels better than one of those flimsy plastic covers on some other Clies and most other Palms.

The Internal memory on this is nice. It was especially annoying when I had to get a memory card to listen to music with my first Clie when I still had plenty of memory on the inside.

I love this keyboard. It is much easier to type on than earlier models. Warning: this is not a keyboard for taking extensive notes. Use your laptop or desktop for that. But jotting down a few notes or a quick meeting is quick and easy with this keyboard.

I love the more compact size. Yes, the screen is a bit smaller, but this is supposed to fit in your Palm afterall. I prefer the smaller size. When I need more real estate on my screen, I just turn on my laptop. The Palm computers were never meant to replace the laptop or desktop afterall.

Very light weight at just over 6 oz. Fanstastic!!!

I had a problem and called customer service. I had to send it in (that was bad, I missed it) but it came back quickly and in working order. Great job!!!

The Decent Things:

The .mp3 player. Why can't the volume be any louder. Yes, I know you just plug in some headphones or speakers to listen to it but sometimes I want to share a song or audio clip with a small group of people. Very annoying. I now turn to my laptop for that instead but the Palm would be more convenient. It is odd that the Palm has the quietest .mp3 volume but yet rocks the house with its midi and alarm sound files. Other than that, the portable .mp3 player is fantastic and very convenient and I would rather have this than any dedicated .mp3 player I've seen on the market. The only problem is that 128MB gets filled up fast. I would suggest a Memory Stick card reader... it is easier to get music on there than by using Clie's import program.

The buttons. I'll give them credit in that my first Clie, the NR70, had the buttons in the worst place. When you wanted to go to the address, notes, etc. you needed to lift the screen to reach them. It was very annoying. Now the quick-launch buttons are accessible even when the screen is swivelled. My complaint is that they are the wrong buttons!!! The four buttons on every Palm are Addresses (always use), Tasks (always use), DateBook (always use), and Notes (often use). Now we only have one of those, DateBook. The other two are nice... Internet and Email. And I know I can reprogram them to how I want them. But I use the other stuff more than the Internet and Email. If the DateBook button would at least toggle between the different applications.... oh, I don't know. I just wish they hadn't messed with that.

The camera. This was borderline descent and bad. The resolution is higher than my NR70 but it still isn't good enough to do anything good with it other than taking pictures of my contacts and including them in the address book. I would rather spend $100 less and use that $100 credit towards getting a decent camera. I bet you can get one at that amount at less than the extra $100 needed to get this one in the first place. Save the picture taking for a better device. Sony had a Clie with a 2MP camera built into it... what happened to that???

The Bad:

The price... OUCH!!! You can get a decent laptop for this amount.

But, I'll still give it the 5 stars because the Clie has always shown great and continuing innovation and because, overall, it truly is a great piece of (small) technology.

Want Sony Clie PEG-UX50 Handheld Discount?

First came the laptops that aim at replacing the desktops. Now Sony is working hard at producing PDAs that strive to replace the notebooks. After spending a week with the UX50, I say their first try is a success, the high price aside.

Let me first talk about the cons, so I can focus on the pros more.

The screen is quite small. It's 3.5 inches diagonal and packs a 320x480 resolution, (...) , which has a bigger screen. This reminds me of the slim VAIO notebooks: they feature 1280x1024 on a 10.4" screen. Ouch! If you are over age 50, forget this. You'll have a tough time making out the icons.

Battery life is also below average, when you have wi-fi or Bluetooth or both on. In fact if you use either one continuously, with backlight set to 3/4, you'll run out of juice in a little over an hour. Kinda scary. I wish Sony would give us a compact battery extender that uses NiMH batteries.

Price. Of course everybody thinks this is too expensive. It's expensive, but since it does everything you can imagine, it's cheap compared to notebook. So whether it's a good value comes down to whether you'll use it a lot. Of course, given the battery life problem... You see what I mean.

Now the pluses. There are tons of them.

First of all, this is a *very* stylish PDA. Pictures don't do it justice. You should go into a store (Staples, Circuit City, etc.) to check it out up close. The exterior design is excellent, with the right amount of curves and edges. It's also surprisingly lightweight. Not for your shirt pocket, of course, but jackets and pants should be ok, unless you wear jeans all the time. What really impresses me is how good the unit feels in my hands, even when I hold it with one hand and use the stylus with the other.

Performance is very good, too. You can play an MP3 in the background while doing other tasks and usually you won't notice any delays. Occasionally you do, but that hasn't happened to me often. Apps launch quickly. If you load JPEG files they display quickly, too, unlike on many Pocket PCs.

The keyboard is sweet. It has the usual Sony quirks, but it doesn't take long to get used to the keys. The dedicated numeric keys are at the top, where God intended them to be. Shift and Ctrl are sticky, so you need not hold them down to type. All in all the keyboard feels great and well spaced, and I can peck away in no time.

The wi-fi function works like a charm. I have Verizon DSL and they have installed lots of hotspots in Manhattan, free for customers. I instantly got wi-fi near a payphone near my office. I surfed for about 15 minutes sitting on the curbside and it never got dropped. Back at home, it works fine with my Microsoft AP. I'm very impressed. Bluetooth, on the other hand, is another matter. (...) The manual is very weak. (...)

I can't emphasize enough how great the keyboard is, and working in landscape mode (i.e., horizontal) is fabulous. You can browse the web and edit Office files with so much ease. You get multimedia as well. This is a very well put-together package.

Over the past ten years I have had many abortive attempts with owning PDAs. I have a habit of using them intensely for two months and then totally losing enthusiasm. As a point of fact, I am convinced that ebay would not be the enterprise it is today had it not been for me littering its pages with my PDA divorces. Recently, after an admirably lengthy self imposed separation, I found myself in Comp USA with my AMEX card in hand.

The Sony attracted me by its original design and multimedia features. It certainly is a revelation in terms of connectivity and web browsing. I also like the keyboard. However, let me tell you why I am returning it (despite the 15% open-box return charge) and going for a more traditionally designed HP. It is not a bad unit, I just feel that the high price suggests it is more special than it actually is:

The swivel screen concept should allow for a larger screen but this one is disappointingly about standard size for a PDA. The unit is slightly smaller but somewhat thicker than a standard PDA. Battery life is poor. My main issue, however, is the included software which does not contain the basics I would expect. No word processor, no spreadsheet and no outlook equivalent email program other than something which pops email. All these are available but, at this price, I would expect these included. I liked the sketchpad but, for some reason, it only operates on a reduced screen size. The camera is nice and I liked the zoom feature but it would be better with a higher resolution.

Looking at the prices of comparable units I feel that the $650 tag consumes about $350 for the vogue value of the undeniably neat mini-tablet design. It depends how much this means to you.

WWS500 SCANNER BLUETOOTH

WWS500 SCANNER BLUETOOTH
  • CORDLESS BARCODE SCANNER BLUETOOTH

I have used this scanner for scanning the UPC codes on beer packages on site in retail accounts. The initial setup was a little difficult. I gave it the ole' college try and had to basically teach myself the ASCII language to program the scanner, which in the end was interesting at the least. I had several questions about the setup so I decided to call Wasp. The experience with the customer support, although friendly, was not very useful. The customer service agent flat out told me "I don't know" to my questions. Defiantly not something you want to hear! If you don't know then who will? In the end I took the initiative and made this scanner do what I needed it to do. I would recommend this product to anyone in the market for one. The battery life is great. It is very light weight and ergonomical. Be prepared for somewhat of a learning curve with ASCII.

Buy WWS500 SCANNER BLUETOOTH Now

This product was essential for our asset management of about 6000 items. It was easy to setup with decent battery life. We generally would recharge after about 4 hours of use, and the charge time was very quick. Sometimes a five minute charge would get us through another hour, with a full charge reached in less than an hour. I did experience some difficulty with some four digit barcodes, but this was easily solved by customer service. The person I spoke to on the phone was very polite and knowledgeable of the product.

Does exactly what I wanted, enter bar codes into Data Base. Works well with poor and smudged codes, good range. Long battery life between recharges. Probably will do a lot more than I require of it.

Update 12/15/2012 Still works and is quite helpful, but;

OFTEN dropps connection with computer. Usually take 15 mins of fiddling with, then all is OK. Not a computer whiz, I have no idea why.
