  • The appearance of the host won't be disturbed after pasting.
  • Note: If there were some bubbles after pasting, the bubbles would dispear by themselves in 3 days.
  • Notice: Usually shipped in 5 work days. 10-15 days for registered mail. To upgrade shipping, contact us immediately after ordering.

it's a really high quality skin. i definitely would buy from victorias deco again. The skin is easy to re-adjust as said, and the skin fades into color amazingly. I applied it over the sony official screen protector, and though the skin pulled the protector when readjusting, all i had to do was hold the protective film down and separate them (not hard) if it did so.

The colors are amazing. It looks like my vita came in this color, and once you look at the back spider logo, you will never want to take it off. The wallpaper was a nice addition (a link to download the spider image is in the package) It's definitely worth it.

So the decal was pretty cool it makes the vita look pretty cool too. The only thing is that it took forever to get here and that's understandable since it's coming from a long way. The problem with the decal is that the picture peels off very quick from the sticker it really doesn't last long. Honestly I was expecting for it to last a while but I've had it for about two weeks and it's already peeling off. Like I said if you want to make your vita look fancy for a bit then the decal is for you but if you want something to last I wouldn't recommend this at all.

  • Ultra Responsive Capacitive Stylus that Works with All Touch Screen. Intergrated Stylus Pen with Laser Presentation Pointer and LED Light.

  • Lightweight Aluminum Pen Body that Weighs in at Only 0.8oz Stylus Length: 118mm

I was looking for a stylus and a laser pointer that wasn't too expensive. This one fit the bill. I did have to press a little harder for my iPad to recognize it, but it's not inconvenient. The only comment I have is that the buttons for the led light and the laser pointer are very close to one another. Sorta akward feeling, but I really only use it for the laser/stylus purposes anyways.

HiRO 3-in-1 2.4 GHz QWERTY Wireless Wi-Fi Keyboard, 3200DPI Laser Mouse and Multi-Touch Touchpad (H5

HiRO 3-in-1 2.4 GHz QWERTY Wireless Wi-Fi Keyboard, 3200DPI Laser Mouse and Multi-Touch Touchpad
  • Frequency Range: 2400~2483 MHz
  • Remote Range: Approximate 230 ft. in the Line of Sight
  • Power Source: BL-5C Compatible Battery
  • 3-in-1 Wireless Multi-Functional Device: Keyboard, Mouse, & Touchpad
  • QWERTY Keyboard Plus Media-Control Hot Keys: Work with Most Digital Media Receiver (DMR)
  • 1700/2500/3200 Adjustable High-DPI Mouse: Smooth & Precise Cursor Movement
  • Touchpad with Multi-Touch Gestures: Ease of Control

While no replacement for a full sized and featured keyboard, this little HiRO has saved the day more times than I can count.

Much like any other tool, the one you have with you is worth far more than the one you left in the car, it is this portability that makes it shine.

Plugging in the USB adapter requires no drivers on the OS side, is just recognizes the interface and goes, a Godsend for anyone working on PoS terminals or somewhat locked-down PCs.

I would advise keeping a close eye on the USB adapter though, the storage space in the rear of the HiRO is convenient, but not foolproof.

Acer Aspire V5-171-9661 11.6-Inch Laptop (Silky Silver)

Acer Aspire V5-171-9661 11.6-Inch Laptop
  • Intel Core i7-3517U 1.9 GHz (4 MB Cache)
  • 8 GB SDRAM
  • 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
  • 11.6-Inch Screen, Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • Windows 8, 5-hour battery life

To start, I own a lot of Acer products. Every year or so, I tend to inch along in my needs and feelings for laptops. Prior to purchasing this, I had an 10" Acer Aspire One netbook which I was thrilled about and a 14" Acer Aspire Timeline. I was hoping that this machine would sort of be the bridge between the things that I really liked about a Netbook (light, good battery life, very portable, and low heat) and the performance of my more beefy laptop (higher resolution, better video performance, etc).

I have to say that in many ways this meets my needs and in some others it didn't quite live up to my expectations. To start with, though, I will first say that I am pleased with this notebook, overall. I am not going to blame the product for having Windows 8 which is at times obnoxious and counter-intuitive because the product description clearly says it comes with windows 8. Some people are not going to like it though. I'd suggest you try to navigate around Windows 8 sometime with a mouse in a store if you want a feel for the experience. Everyone's going to differ on whether they think this is one step forward and two back, or the other way around. What I will say is, for what Windows 8 is, this thing flies through it and it displays everything in a slick manner.

This has had no problems running Netflix, not that you would expect it to. It can do all your normal computing, and the easy app stuff they seem to be trying to turn windows into. On top of that, this isn't a great system to play games on, but it can run the games that I have played with respectable stability. I routinely play World of Tanks on mine with middle-of-the-road type graphics, and I'm very satisfied with the mid-20's to mid-30's frames per second. If you pump it as high as it goes (or as high as it lets you) you will see the frame rate drop though to a humanly noticeable level. The same can be said for Skyrim.

Some of the things that aren't measured in the specs that you might want to be aware of. This can get rather hot. If you are doing anything complicated, this could be come a 'not-on-my-lap laptop.' If you're just playing with the internet, it usually seems to be fine. If, like I mentioned above, you're playing a game, definitely set it down somewhere else. Also, this is the first Acer that I've purchased where the sound that comes with the computer is noticeably bad. The speakers that are in this sound tinny and hollow. If you are planning on playing music, this would probably force you to headphones or a separate speaker system. I carry around an 'X-Mini II Capsule Speaker,' which is quite nice for what it is, so I can plug that in if I need pretty or more noises for whatever reason.

No question...great performance. The VGA and HDMI ports support two monitors very well on this and all the other notebooks. The NEW Acer site allows a very smooth compare of the complex mix of features. Fortunately Amazon has the right stock.

I needed to replace my work notebook; I had previously purchased an Acer Timeline X series in the same 11.6" form factor and it has done fairly well throughout its two-year run with me around the world (literally) other than a few niggling problems.

I had a budget of about $1,500, so I was considering the Asus Zenbook Prime in the same form factor, but I couldn't find one with the 256GB SSD. Moreover, it didn't have a full-sized SD card slot and didn't come with the old-school VGA port (this was important because many of the customers I visit do not have projectors with HDMI inputs). I finally decided that for the price, I would buy the Acer V5 because it had the same processor (Ivy bridge Core i7) and double the RAM of the Asus (8GB vs. 4GB).

It seems that the minor problems with the last notebook have been addressed and it is exceedingly fast. The only complaint is that I'm still adapting to the touchpad with integrated buttons as my last one had dedicated buttons. However, with the money I saved, I decided to buy a 256GB SSD for the computer (be sure to get one that is 7mm high most of them are 9mm and will not fit inside the chassis) and used Acronis True Image to clone the drive...wow. Screaming fast performance that takes about 15 seconds to go from completely powered off to booted and about 4 seconds to go from sleep to booted. Apps open almost instantaneously...and I still have about $500 left in the budget to buy more stuff!

A quick word to those of you that put an SSD in the device using Acronis: I used a USB enclosure to turn the SSD drive into a flash drive in order to do the cloning. I spent a couple of hours trying to clone and the only way it worked for me was when I created a bootable flash drive with Acronis and then changed the BIOS's settings from UEFI to LegacyBoot (otherwise the BIOS won't let you boot to Acronis' Linux image). The cloning takes about an hour and then you can swap the HDD and SSD. Once you swap the drives, you need to change the BIOS back to UEFI or it won't boot Windows 8. Good luck!

As the owner of an 11.6" Acer Aspire One AO722, this looks the same but with a much faster CPU, a better graphics processor, a lot more memory and a USB 3.0 port, all of which the One could use I added RAM and an SSD to mine and makes this laptop of potential interest. OTOH, given that it comes with Windows 8 I was wondering about the screen, i.e., whether it is a touchscreen. Although reaching out to a touchscreen is not very functional when the laptop is more than about a half an arm's length away (elbow-to-fingers), in closer, such as on one's lap, it could work well.

At the Acer site, the graphic shows someone touching the screen and the text below, under a "Touch to go" headline, reads "The Aspire V5 Series features slimmed-down mobile convenience in your choice of 11.6", 14.0" and 15.6" display sizes -including models with 10-point touchscreens!" Since that's a little ambiguous and Amazon doesn't indicate a touchscreen, I called Acer support. According to the rep (India) who went and checked to be sure, this model does *not* come with a touchscreen. He also mentioned something about some consistency problems between the touchpad and Win 8, but I didn't pursue it. The other thing to note is the advertised 5-hour battery life. As laptops go, I suppose that's borderline acceptable and in the range of the Aspire One. But realistically, manufacturer battery specs are usually inflated, thus something in the 4-hour range seems more reasonable to expect. A review of the 15.6" 6869 model found 4h12m. That wouldn't be so good.

Ambicom Compact Flash GPS Receiver

Ambicom Compact Flash GPS Receiver
  • Real-time in-vehicle navigation
  • Turn-by-turn voice and visual instructions
  • Ultra compact design
  • Continuous GPS position update
  • Compatible with most Pocket PC's with Compact Flash slot

The product package includes

1. CF GPS receiver.

2. PocketMap Navigator Software 30 days trial version.

3. Antenna booster for in car use (it does not require any power from car)

I am using it with my Dell AXIM 5, PPC Windows 2002 system. Once it is up it tracks on average 6 satellites (maximum display limit is 12 and the maximum i have seen it track is 8) with a CEP of 17' on average. On a overcast day antenna is must otherwise it doesn't track any satellites on my system. On a clear day it works well out doors without the antenna.

What I like about it:

1. It doesn't drain too much power (I don't have to recharge my PPC more often)

2. Its easy to install and use.

3. Reasonably accuracy (25 CEP per specs in most cases its better than that)

4. Navigation software comes with voice navigation (voice itself is digitally synthesized so its little bit hard to understand). The software has nice list of POI's (grocery stores, motels, fitness clubs etc)

What I don't like about it:

1. Map software is 30-day trial version. At the time of writing this review its price is $...

2. Navigator software doesn't give you route optimization options (e.g. you will prefer using highways/interstates or other road ... etc)

Note: For Dell Axim 5 users it takes up the CF slot and you can't use CF slot for map storage.

I got this for Christmas for use with a Cassiopeia E125. The software loaded fine, but the receiver did not appear to get a signal. The Ambicom office was closed during Christmas break, so I put it aside. This week I e-mailed Ambicom. Their response is as follows:

"Unfortunately, the software is not compatible with PDA OS. It's only for Pocket PC 2002 and 2003. Sorry for this incovenient caused."

Amazon's product description and the (sparse) Ambicom documentation did not reveal this detail. Now I'm stuck with something I probably can't use.

EVGA GeForce 210 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1312-LR

EVGA GeForce 210 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1312-LR
  • 520 MHz core clock
  • PCI Express 2.0 x16
  • 1024 MB 64-bit DDR3 memory
  • 600 MHz memory clock and 1230 MHz shader clock
  • 8 CUDA Cores

Bought this so that my son could play lego universe on my gateway 500 pc. installed easily and with the enclosed cd (windows xp). One problem windows xp could not install the HDMI audio as the driver was missing. Every time I booted it would detect new hardware and then say that nvhda32.sys could not be found. Went to EVGA web site and downloaded the latest drivers. Great the hardware was installed but then the dreaded BSOD would occur over, over, and over again!!!!. Uninstalled the card, researched online and found that others have also had this problem. Found nvhda32.sys and deleted, erased it. no more problems. Since I'm not using the HDMI connection I'm satisfied with its performance. Planning to contact EVGA to request a stable nvhda32.sys module.

I put this card and a 450W psu into a 05-06 PC (with windows 7 and hasn't been upgraded before). The speed up is great and I can also use a second monitor now, this makes multitasking with much more ease for me. YouTube 1080p is great! No more waiting for 1080 videos to load and then watch. My small gaming habits has been enhanced where I can play everything on full detail with little to no lag at all. Windows 7 installed the drivers automatically but made sure they weren't outdated by downloading from nvidia. For people with noise concerns I can say that I cannot hear it over the 120mm fan on the psu.

-Pros: All around better experience if you are still using integrated graphics and upgrade to this.

-Cons: Packaging was minimal and heard the card sliding around.

-Troubles: BIOS was set to auto for onboard audio so it took my magickjack as a speaker.. (set to enabled)

Have this card attached to a WINDOWS 7 MEDIA-CENTER and we can watch DVDs and even stream HuluDesktop and Netflix both HD and it looks good and for the price i so surprised and Pleased! Doubt this would be good for games and the fan was small but the hdmi allows the sound to transmit to the tv add a 14$ remote and Tv tuner card u have a lower cost cable tv setup that is all the dvr space you add only limits are your hard drive budget we have 10 T of space on ours now and the kids love that they never have to delete tv shows almost 3 yrs worth of tv shows almost 1000 recording network them all and even xboxs can use teh programs or other PCs in your home the kids love being able to go to their rooms to watch something else if they cant watch what they want in Family Room

Also get latest drivers from NVIDIA.com instead of using CD these drive on the CD ARE SEVERAL YEARS OLD and teh MICROSOFT ones dont work good with silverlight and teh lips will lose sync and piss u off so before you return or Replace with more $$ card get teh latest drivers

After a bit of tinkering, I was able to have this card working on an old HP Pavalion a1350n computor with Windows XP. Just a note when installing this card, on computors with windows XP. After installing, you'll probably notice NO volume, well there is fix for that. In the loading screen in the Bios or start up, you will have to inable the onboard sound, switch to on, NOT to auto or computor managed. Or it will put your sound automaticly to the graphics card and leave you muted. Now I do not know if this happens to EVERY XP, but this is my experiance with mine. So plug it in, fire it up, and if you have no volume, you know what to do. After that, go to the Nvidia site and update your Drivers, and you are ready to go. I was impressed on the graphics this card produces, considering my OEM onboard graphics is least to be desired, and SLOW in gaming.

Let's face it. If you're reading reviews for a video card that costs less than $35, chances are you are not a hardcore gamer. What you are though is someone who is looking for a cheap video card either for a new budget build or to replace the on-board video graphics adapter on a motherboard. Either way, you've come to the right product because this video card not only costs little but it performs very well too. What I am using this video card mainly for is video streaming from Youtube and other websites onto my HDTV. I've tried both 720p and 1080p video streams and this video card doesn't even miss a beat. The other awesome feature of this card is the HDMI port. Because I am connecting the computer to my HDTV, it was necessary to get a video card with HDMI. This eliminates the need to connect an audio cable. Yes, I know. The sounds coming out from a HDTV is very weak but that's my problem, not yours!

The card installs very easily and after downloading and installing the latest driver from Nvidia's website, the video card was ready to rock and roll in Windows 7. Absolutely not one road block at all. I've always been a fan of EVGA products because they have never let me down. Hopefully this trend will continue here.

The company was very cooperative in returning the purchase price for the battery I used to power an IPAQ PDA. No one knows why the battery didn't work. It simply didn't power the device correctly and had it locked into a loop at the start screen. This wasn't a problem with the old battery even though it was dead and being powered by the charger. Some times non factory parts just don't work.

First con is the battery lasts a bit over 2 hours. Also the tv I got won't charge (works plugged in but battery didn't work; it was a refurb so I got a warrenty). I got it for a pretty good price. Comes with 2 antennas that work fairly well, even indoors. Product is light, screen is decent. Also comes with a remote and car charger. Decent set ,especially if you can get a pood price on it.

To keep it rather short its not a bad little set and is a great value if you can get it for aeound 40 bucks like I did.

Only had it about a week so I can't say how long it'll last or what but they do have a costomer service dept which means a lot.

I'd reccomend to someone who's looking for a nice little inexpensive set.

I like this skin. It is long lasting, and works well with the phone. I wish that I would have gotten the background that it promised to give us. I emailed the seller and never got it. I am going to hope that it was by fluke only.

I am giving three stars only because my emails never got responded to (and I sent several). The item did get to me and I like having my phone with diff. styles on them. (If they would have been responsive... then they would have gotten 4 stars.) Why not five... because over wear and tear it starts peeling off.... however. It peels like an outer-shell portion and still shows the design which is cool enough instead of having a peeling phone. It's made of pretty sturdy material. I like it!

Belkin F8U1500 IR Universal Wireless Keyboard

Belkin F8U1500 IR Universal Wireless Keyboard
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Generous key spacing and comfortable key travel
  • Quick-start keyboard application keys
  • Works with most Palm devices and Pocket PCs
  • Universal IR Wireless

I have been using pda's for 6 years and most people use them because they aren't sitting at a desk.My current one is the Ipaq 2210/2215 (love it). My first pda was the palm vIIx and I had their portable keyboard. The pda had to attach to it, but it always worked every key! Great for the hotel stay or any desk.

With this Belkin unit you first have to update your driver (go to the Belkin website). You may have to uninstall other keyboard software first. Some PDA's have the ability to turn the screen sideways in Word or Excel which is good. Mine doesn't and the only way to get it to line up is to sit my pda in the FLIMSY holder UPSIDE down. Trying to line up your pda to the infrared using the adjustable metal shield is difficult. Even when I turned my pda upside down half the keys wouldn't work. If you wasted enough time reading this then I may have saved you $$$ and headache. I won't even offer to sell mine.

I had to check the package to make sure we are all talking about the same keyboard here, as I have had a very different experience with this item.

I received it. I opened it. I added a battery, inserted the CD-Rom, installed the drivers and that was it. Works fine.

My PDA is an ipaq 1935, which is not too different from the 1940 mentioned below. The stand has a mirror that rotates on a arm to where the IR is located (on the side on this device). You don't need to lay it flat in landscape mode (which an ipaq 1935 doesn't naturally have) or anything like that. The CD-Rom contains drivers for both 2002 and 2003 operating systems. No other downloads are necessary or encouraged.

Clearly, the design has been improved.

The stand that holds the PDA is not sturdy enough to stay upright in a car crash or on horseback but I see nothing wrong with it. The keyboard may have larger or smaller keys than other designs but there's hardly a learning curve, you get used to it quickly. It allows me to type quickly and accurately.

Anyone using a compatible device that doesn't seem to work should take a good look in the mirror not at themselves, but at the one on the PDA stand. IR means light, so proper alignment is central to good performance. It swivels, it extends, it just takes a bit of common sense.

So, to sum up: the age of the reviews below indicate the keyboard must have been updated, because all the drivers are there and no strange instructions are provided or needed. It works, it's cheap, it lets you type on your PDA.

.

I took the keyboard out of the box, installed a AAA battery (which is supposed to last 360 hours i.e. 45 days of steady typing), then installed the keyboard software on my Sony Clie SJ22. I got it working with the Palm-based word processor WordSmith within 10 minutes. There is no quick start document so you must install the software and manual and print it out. It is about 70 pages and covers all the function keys, installation, etc.

The instructions are a little vague about initial setup. You cannot just position the keyboard anywhere but rather there is a stand that allows you to place your PDA almost vertical and then you must adjust the mirror so that your PDA can receive the signals from the IR light on the keyboard that is above the 5 key. Don't worry if the IR light bulb on the keyboard does not appear to be on. Infrared light is not visible to the naked eye.

Once the unit is set up you press both of the shift keys at the same time and if and when the PDA receives a signal, it displays a small red icon at the bottom of the screen. If you don't get the red icon, reposition the mirror and/or the PDA stand. Once you see the red icon, you are ready to type. However, you can't be moving the stand or the PDA around or you can lose the connection.

If you ever find you can't get the connection, make sure to go into the keyboard software and enable the keyboard. I pressed the function key combination to rotate the screen and since WordSmith does not support rotation, the unit froze and the Belkin keyboard software (on the Clie) was not enabled after the reset so I went back and enabled it and it was okay.

There is no need to pound the keyboard. You can just touch the keys and they respond nicely. I use my right thumb but you can also use your left thumb for a space. I have fairly large hands but am quickly getting use to the keys. I would say I can type about 80-85 % as fast as I can with a regular keyboard. With a little practice I am sure I will be close to 100%.

The keys and their placement is much the same as the standard QWERTY keyboard but of course all the keys are a little small. As with other keyboards, the F and J keys have small protrusions which allow you to find the home keys without looking.

The space bar is split down the middle, which gives your two space bars.

Each key is about 1/2 " by 1/2 ". The unit (unfolded) is 10 ½ by 3 ¾ and a little more than ½ inch thick. It folds in half to 5 ¼ inches long and weighs in at about a½ a pound, however, that does not bother me as It feels quite sturdy.

There are 4 special shortcut keys on the right hand side which bring up the TODO the ADDRESS and APPOINTMENT Calendar and MEMOS

Together with the Function key, these keys also give you Find, Home, Calculatir, and the drop down menus from the application you are in. If there is more than one drop down menu you can use the arrow keys to navigate through them.

There are also many other keys that work together with the function key and which are accessed by pressing the FN key + one other keys which do the following: DONE, DELETE, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, CANCEL, OFF, OK and TODAY/NEW and a few other things.

The combination FN + * toggles the Clie's screen between mono mode and color.

The keyboard comes with a three year warranty which is quite impressive.

I also want to point out that before I purchased this unit at amazon.com, I sent a note to Belkin technical support to ask them if the Sony Clie SJ 22 was compatible with their keyboard as someone had posted a review saying it was not.

Support emailed me the next day and said it was compatible, and that the person who wrote the review must have had the wrong driver.

I don't think that was her problem. The stand and he mirror must be set up properly. A battery must be put in. Software must be installed on the PC and then synced to put the keyboard software on the PDA. I used the software that came on the CD Rom that came with the keyboard.

There are a few drawbacks that may or may not be unique to the Sony Clie.

1) The caps lock seems to go on from time to time and I am not sure whether that is because I am inadvertently touching it by accident or not.

2) Every now and then a key starts repeating but if you press any key when it does this, it will stop the repeating. This may be the fault of the WordSmith program. In fact both may be, I am not sure.

(Downloading and installing the latest driver did not correct these two anomalies).

I give it 4 stars because of the 2 drawbacks I mentioned above. I can live with them because the only thing I need my stylus for anymore is to run a non standard Palm program.

Belkin's website documentation is wildly out of date and muddled so it was difficult to know if this keyboard would work with an Axim X51V PPC with ActiveSync 4.2 and WM5.0. But, after a lot of effort, I found it did. (I downloaded the Windows CE 2005 driver). Belkin have really shot themselves in the foot over all this...

Although the PPC stand is very flimsy (the Stowaway one looks much better, and apparently has a better arrangement for beaming) the Belkin has the great advantage of a proper row of number keys at the top. It's a neat little keyboard, and all in all I am very satisfied. Leaving aside the compatibility list and driver problems, I can't understand what all the whingeing is about.

I'm using this keyboard with a Zodiac that defaults to portrait mode and it works fine. It's VERY compact and portable, tho, some sort of slip case would have been a nice touch. Battery life on a Zodiac is definitely shortened so, be sure to disable the keyboard drivers when you're not using it. I even managed to find free third party Dvorak layout drivers for it.

VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner (PDS ST415 WM)

VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner
  • Features: Scanner for color & monochromatic images, documents, magazines
  • Sensor: A4 Color Contact image Sensor
  • Resolution: Standard Resolution: 300x300dpi (default); High Resolution: 600x600dpi
  • External Memory: Support Micro SD card up to 16GB (Micro SD card not included)
  • File Format: JPEG

This portable scanner is amazing. I have a huge collection of magazine clippings that I've kept in a binder for years. My plan was to scan each page, but it was taking forever on my flatbed and I burned myself out, so I stopped. Since I've gotten this scanner, I've pulled them out again. In a day and a half, I've scanned over 400 items. I am halfway done and it feels great. It literally takes three seconds to scan a full page. You press the scan button, run it down the page, and then press it again. The file saves on your SD card. From there, you can insert the SD card into your computer to rip the images off or plug the scanner into your USB port directly. You cannot scan and view while the scanner is plugged into your computer, but I didn't find this troublesome at all. I simply scanned a huge chunk of paper and then plugged the scanner into my computer. Every image I scanned looks great. As of yet, none of the scans have come out blurry.

The software that comes with the VuPoint is called Abby FineReader, but I haven't used it much. Instead, I open the scans in Photoshop, crop, and save. It's very easy and the images look amazing. You can create a low or high quality scan, but even with the low quality scan, the images look pretty good. I believe you can save the scans in the Abby FineReader program as Microsoft Word docs, jpegs, or pdfs.

If you're one of those people that holds onto a lot of paper and desperately wants to get rid of it, then this scanner was made for you.

I needed something to help me tackle the stacks of receipts spread throughout my house. This little scanner does the trick! I can quickly scan the receipts onto this wand, then plug it into my Macbook. The Image Capture app pops up and copies the files to my Desktop, where I can then sort them into appropriate folders. The version of the VuPoint Wand scanner I received (PDSST415VPS, see update below) saves the images directly to PDF files. If I have two (or more) scans that I want to combine into one, I just double-click the first page (to open it in Preview), turn on the "thumbnails preview" (on the View menu), then drag the second PDF file ON TOP OF the first page thumbnail. Preview will then merge the two PDF files together into one.

PROs

+ Saves files as either JPG or PDFs (read the update below)

+ Takes 2 AA batteries (which I prefer over a built-in, non-replaceable battery) and works fine with rechargeables.

+ Mac friendly: uses the standard operating system driver

+ The scan quality is quite good, even on the "low" setting, however you need to have a steady hand to avoid slants and gaps in the scans. If you need to scan an important legal document, you may want to consider using a traditional flatbed scanner instead. But for quick, every day scans like receipts, recipes, magazine articles, cards, etc, this scanner does an amazing job.

CONs

Every time you turn the scanner off, it defaults to the JPG file format and "low" scan quality. I really wish it would save the preferences between power cycles.

The package seems to include an OCR converter program which is NOT compatible with the Mac

UPDATE: Thanks to Wayne in the comments for pointing this out: apparently the model I received has an "S" at the end of it (PDSST415VPS), which the manufacturer's website indicates can scan to PDFs. The model listed on this page (PDSST415VP) only scans to JPG. I'm guessing this model is discontinued and superseded by the PDF-capable model, but there's no guarantee that you'll receive the newer model.

This an incredibly powerful little product. It is extremely easy to use and the quality of the copies is excellent in black and white as well as in color.

It comes very handy when you need to copy legal documents and a copier is not available. The quality of the copy can be verified immediately if a laptop is available as well.

It works great when copying small portions (such as tables, graphs, pictures or cartoons)from very large books, that don't fit on top of a copier.

When making scans of smaller books, or when the text is too close to the edge of the page, it is a good idea to slip a cardboard cover (from a binder for example) under the page, in order to give firm support to the rollers beyond the edge of the page.

I would recommend purchasing the optional hard case and a memory chip, since it has no buil-in memory.

The ability to scan to an SDHC card without using a computer is handy (another alternative would be to take a photo of the document or photo with a digital camera). I used it to scan the folks' photo albums.

On the ST415-VPS model (not on the ST415-VP model), the resolution of 900dpi (maximum) is very good (higher than the -VP model and the 600dpi Wolverine mentioned below), and also PDF file output is supported. I purchased the -VPS model at Staples and the one sold here on Amazon might be the -VP model.

Cons:

* Since there are rollers on only one edge of the scanner, the "bumps" on the other edge tend to move whatever you're scanning when the bumps hit the edge of the paper (see image attached). A similar model, the Wolverine PASS200 Handheld Portable Documents, Books and Photo Scanner (apparently manufactured by the same company) has rollers on both the leading and trailing edges.

* There is about 1" of dead space on each side of the scanner that is not scanned, which may be an issue when scanning a page from a book, i.e. if the left margin is less than an inch.

* Disposable Alkaline batteries are supposedly required; I used NiMH rechargeables and they worked OK but were drained after about 100 scans.

* There is no crop feature (even if the background is entirely white or black), so the resulting scanned image is always 8.5" wide, requiring use of computer software to crop them down to the desired size (say 4x6").

* Scanned photos were always a tad crooked (compared to a flat-bed scanner), also requiring computer software to rotate them into position if desired. Despite the single-roller design, I experienced less Fun-House-Mirror type distortion using this scanner compared to the Wolverine PASS200 Handheld Portable Documents, Books and Photo Scanner

* The JPG files that were output had about 2KB of extra padding at the end of each file, confusing and locking up some photo viewer programs.

* The resolution is not remembered across power-cycles, so must be reconfigured each time the unit is powered on (unless you always want to scan at the lowest resolution).

I disagree with the one-star review.

Derek says:

"1) Does NOT scan to PDF" -Some models do, some don't. Anyway, JPGs can be saved from PhotoShop as PDFs.

"2) Eats batteries for breakfast." -Not my experience, I've not felt it used batteries too quickly.

"3) Hard case and SD card are available separately. Hard case is over $20." -Do tablets (iPad, for example) come with cases? No, so what's the gripe? It comes with a perfectly suitable soft case in which my wife carries the scanner in her purse for scanning "at site" as needed.

"4) One must practice getting one's arm and scanning speed calibrated takes practice if you want a good end result. No automatic feeder." -That's what is to be expected with this kind of device. It doesn't claim to be a flatbed and it is rather obvious that it is does not have an automatic feeder!

"5) Try to set the date and time on this thing...go ahead, I'll wait." -I did it the first try and I don't claim to be a Sci-fi Guy.

"6) Comes with useless software that isn't needed to view or do anything with the unit." -Buy a laptop or desktop computer and see how much bloatware comes with it. If one doesn't want to use the included software, don't install it!

"For what it's MEANT to do (i.e. relieve you of over $80 and infuriate you) it does passably well. Oh, and there's the scan to JPG thing. You are better off applying the purchase price toward a flatbed scanner." -It is MEANT to compliment a flatbed scanner not to replace one. It does more than "passably well" if one takes the time to learn to use it for documentation of items that either won't fit a flatbed or don't need the quality. I.e., don't expect it to do what a flatbed will do. Its intended purpose is to make it easy to scan receipts, newspaper or magazine articles, etc. My wife uses it for those purposes. I use it on packages of items we purchase to scan UPC codes, serial numbers, and to document other "needed" sections that are not suitable for scanning on a flatbed (and formerly documented using a digital camera). It is certainly useful on trips when it is out of the question to tote a flatbed scanner around.

The other reviews (as of this date) are much more "on point" and evidence realistic expectations of what this scanner is intended to do and, in general, reflect the experience we've had with ours.

PNY Secure Digital SD Memory Card 1GB (P-SD1G-RF3)

PNY Secure Digital SD Memory Card 1GB
  • Compatible With All Media Types Designed To Use Secure Digital Cards
  • Complies With Sdmi Portable Device Requirements
  • Technical Support
  • 1 Gb

I used this card for about 3 months and then it stopped working. I can not format it on any PC because it does not recognize the card. My Pocket PC can't recognize it and my digital camera says "card memory error." I own several other cards by different companies and this is the only one that stopped working.

The PNY 1 GB SD card, which I purchased lasted approximately 6 minutes. Then, I received an error message "cannot read card". Formatting the card by the digital camera changed the error message to "this card cannot be used". The same message was generated by another camera both of them worked perfectly with Kingston SD cards.

I recently bought a new 6.0 megapixel digital camera (Canon PowerShot S3 IS) which came with an extremely small and practically useless 16MB secure digital card so I bought a couple of these 1GB PNY PSD1GRF3 secure digital cards since they were on sale for less than $20 apiece. These SD cards are made in Japan by Toshiba (they are then rebranded and sold by PNY, Lexar, DaneElec, etc.) and I have been very pleased with them so far. They work flawlessly with no write-speed delay in my new camera while shooting still pictures or while shooting video with stereo sound, and the card reader in my HP Pavilion M7480N Media Center PC (running Windows XP Professional service pack 2) reads the pictures and video into my Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 software programs with no problems. The only drawback is that the read-speed on these standard SD cards is a bit slow when compared to the newer and faster SD cards...it takes several minutes to transfer all the pictures or video from a full 1GB card onto my PC...but I find this to be a small inconvenience rather than a big problem. So, if a little longer read time is not a problem for you, then save yourself some money and buy this card. Overall, a very good standard SD card at an excellent price!

The PNY 1GB SD which i bought at best buy. Works great. I had no problems with this card at all. If the card gets corrupted on the cameras and you try formating it on it, if it doesn't work. Try formatting it on a pc. By using a card reader.

I bought the same card when I bought my Canon digital camera about 6 months ago. I had no problems with that card so when I got my Palm I ordered this card from Amazon. I have used it in my Palm and put it in my camera as well. I have had no problem. My HP AIO has a slot for the card and reads/writes with no problems. I would buy this product from Amazon again.
