Alphasmart Neo - Handheld

Alphasmart Neo - HandheldI purchased the Neo2 for taking notes in college classes as I am unable to write. It does the job, but not a great job. Because the keyboard is not ergonomic, nor is there a way to attach a better keyboard, my spelling on the Neo is horrendous. It is also difficult to see the cursor when attempting to move it around in the text to make corrections, so I gave up on that. After each lecture, I transfer the file to the computer, then Save As a Word document, then run spell checker, then try to get the notes better organized. I also record the lecture and transcribe the recording against the Neo text file and I miss about 10% of it on the Neo. I am actually a fast and accurate typist with an ergonomic keyboard, so using the Neo is quite frustrating for me, but at least I get the notes. Unfortunately, it will have to be an expensive stop-gap tool until I can afford something better.

I started out with an Alphasmart 3000 three years ago when I wanted to join other writers at coffeehouses for write-ins, but could not afford a laptop. I discovered that the Alphasmart 3000 was a great non-distraction writing machine that allowed me to produce larger word counts on my rough drafts than having a machine that was hooked up to the internet. The combination of the small screen, not being able to go back and edit easily on the fly and the ability to load up my finished work to my computer's word processing program with ease turned out to be a winning combination for me as a writer.

After a year of using the Alphasmart 3000, I decided to upgrade to the Alphasmart Neo. I am glad that I did. With the Neo, I have the same good features that made the AS3K a wonderful non-distraction writing machine. The Neo's keyboard is more comfortable with a better feel to the keys and the screen is slightly larger than the AS3K. The Neo handles larger file sizes and has a dictionary, thesarus and a word count feature built in. The unit is lightweight and tough. The battery life is like nothing in this world. I put in batteries once a year and then forget about it. I always have power in the unit when I need it.

I now own a laptop, but when I am working on a rough draft, I still pull out my Alphasmart Neo. It is my preferred drafting machine of choice. I have paired up the Neo with a Neoprene sleeve designed for a 13" MacBook Air and a Mighty Bright Music Light. Everything fits easily into my writing bag and carts around effortlessly.

If you are a novelist, a freelance writer, a student who needs to take notes in the classroom but are not allowed to bring a computer with you, do consider purchasing the Alphasmart Neo. It might be the answer you were looking for.

We chose this product because it had Cowriter on it, which is a program that helps with spelling. My son loves this aid as he has a hard time spelling. He loves to write imaginative stories but has difficulty physically writing and the computer has too many distractions which the Alphasmart Neo does not, so he makes greater progress. When hooked to the computer things can be easily printed or just saved to the computer. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a simple typing device without all the games, internet and other distractions found on computers. It's been a great help to my son's education!

Wanted a Alphasmart Neo when I saw a fellow writer using it.

This machine comes in so handy because it is so portable.

It is also so easy to use. And the battery seems to last forever

making it easy for long interviews, class notes, or airline flights.

6-DRIVE Sas/sata Backplane

6-DRIVE Sas/sata Backplane

OK, I've read nearly ALL the reviews on this product...the good; and, well...the rest. Here is my setup/installation experience from the perspective of a Video production editor who has never set up a NAS. Having built many computer systems myself, and having also provided remote and on-site support to literally thousands of computer customers in very large corporate and government network environments, I go into every new installation with the spirit of I can figure it out; and, if there's a problem, look in the mirror first and think twice before getting all worked up. It's just hardware. When the unexpected happens, there's always a path to some flavor of resolution. As it goes with resolutions, some taste better than others.

The primary reason I bought the Synology DS1812+ (box) was to offload 10TB of High Definition video files from my editing system so that I could completely wipe it clean and install it with an Intel 520 series Solid State Drive as the new system drive, and reconfigure the remaining four disks in a RAID 5 setup. For anybody who cares, the reason I didn't configure with RAID 5 in the first place was money, priorities; and, hey...what's RAID 5!?

OrientEX(TM) Rii Touch N7 2.4G Hz Mini Wireless Full Qwerty Keyboard For PC, HTPC, Apple, Xbox360, W

OrientEX(TM) Rii Touch N7 2.4G Hz Mini Wireless Full Qwerty Keyboard For PC, HTPC, Apple, Xbox360, Wii, PS3 With Removable Battery -PROS:

(1) actually works, fairly reliably;

(2) there are very few alternatives for a similar device;

(3) hasslefree setup;

(4) small size and overall excellent form factor;

(5) very good distance range for home use;

(6) backlit;

(7) virtual vertical scrollbar; and

(8) reasonable price.

CONS:

(1) ERRATIC SLEEP AND WAKE-UP BEHAVIOR. The biggest issue I experienced is its erratic behavior of going into a sleep mode and waking up.

First of all, the unit goes to sleep too frequently (probably only after 2 min. of no use). Should be kept awake for at least 10 min. and preferably 30 min. before goes to sleep, but I'm not sure how much impact doing that would have on the battery life.

Once the unit goes into sleep, there isn't a consistent way to wake it up. The instruction manual states that the user can hit any key to wake the device up, but according to my experience, it does not work as claimed. Sometimes nothing works except for switching it off and on again. And when hitting a key does work, only certain keys such as the fn key and space bar work.

In addition, just touching the touchpad does not wake it up, which it should do because the touchpad is the most intuitive thing a user would use attempting to wake the device up.

The thing that really causes annoyance isn't how difficult it is to wake it up, but the inconsistency.

For example, when the whole thing just gets stuck, you can make it work again by switching off and back on again. It isn't difficult to do that, and it is very quick, but the inconsistency is annoying and distracting.

Another related issue is that starting the computer does not automatically wake up the remote. The USB dongle is always plugged into the computer, so theoretically it should be able to that. But instead, you have to manually turn the remote on. So to watch TV using your PC, you need to turn on three things, the TV, the PC, and this PC remote (and I hope you don't have one of those TV remotes that also need to be manually turned on every time when you use it). Not terribly difficult to do, but this hodgepodge doesn't give you a feeling of the state of art. It may be a design overlook, or maybe there's something fundamentally wrong with the sleep status of this entire device.

Fortunately, if you put your computer to sleep, turning on this PC remote does wake up your computer.

(2) The battery standby time is only about a month. This is partly a trade-off of using a rechargeable battery. One month may sound like a very long time, but remember you are talking about a remote control not a tablet computer. Most TV remote controls have a standby life over two years if you're using proper batteries.

Overall, I think the designer of this keyboard struggled with the power consumption issue and had to come up with a compromised solution. The frequent sleep mode is also a result of the same cause. Maybe someday a better design may solve these problems, but for the time being, this is what we get.

(3) The touchpad a bit too small, but that's part of the compact package, so I can't complain.

(4) The touchpad is a slightly jumpy and inconsistent, but very much usable.

FURTHER COMMENTS:

I hesitated to buy this to be honest. Some of the user reviews on the predecessor of this product had me worried. Besides, the seller is not really doing a good job in describing the product. It took me a while to realize this is actually an updated version of the previous Rii Touch Mini, which had been sold for quite some time and received hundreds of user reviews. This product, on the other hand, had only two reviews. It is very easy to be confused by these listings of products. I had initially suspected that Rii Touch N7 could be just a knockoff of the original Rii Touch Mini. When it comes to home electronics, you just don't know where they're coming from except that they're very likely all manufactured in China. But what matters is who designed them and who is behind the products to support them.

Anyway, after some research, I concluded that this is indeed an upgraded version which is manufactured by the same company, although may be marketed by a different company. So I went ahead despite the lack of user reviews.

I am quite happy with the product I received.

Out of box, this thing works with no hassle. On Windows 7, no driver is needed. (In fact, they don't even provide a driver. Even the multimedia function keys work without any setup. And it has a very good build quality.

If you have never seen one of these before, make sure you understand the actual size of this thing. It is comparable to a typical TV remote control, probably just a bit wider in the shorter dimension. But the keys are of very a practical size, not difficult to find and press. I would say it is a great form factor, although a slightly larger size could be even better.

The USB adapter, which is tiny, is hidden in the battery compartment of the keyboard in the origin of packaging, something that one could easily missed without reading the instructions. The USB adapter is completely plug-and-play.

The reception range is very good. I tried from about 30 feet away and it worked with no problem. But you should plug the USB adapter to a USB port in the front of the computer, not in the back to maximize the effective distance.

The touchpad, which I worried about the most, turned out to be a quite good part of this product. Although it is rather small due to the overall size of this thing, it is responsive, close to an average laptop (but not nearly as roomy and smooth). The buttons for left click and right-click are very easy to use. They are actually far better than the Logitech Revue's keyboard which is many many times larger than this.

Besides, the touchpad can do single and double clicks, which is critical and will hugely affect overall user experience if this feature is missing. Don't take this for granted, even Logitech Revue's much larger wireless keyboard does not have this. Unfortunately, single clicking using the touchpad isn't very reliable, and you often end up having to do a double-click to do something that you usually do with a single click on the computer. The trouble is not making a double-click itself, it is inconsistency which is annoying.

Details are very well thought out. The battery is replaceable. No separate charger is required. You just charge the thing using a USB cable.

One of the things one should pay attention to is that this device goes to sleep after only a couple of minutes of no use. So practically, every time when you pick it up, you need to wake it up, otherwise the thing would appear to be nonresponsive. I haven't carefully studied all the possible ways to wake it up, but hitting the space key works.

Unfortunately, sometimes the whole thing would become completely non-responsive. In my short period of use, this has happened quite frequently. It is very easy to fix the problem when it occurs (but won't prevent it from happening again). You just slide the power button off and back on, and the device becomes responsive with no time, until of course the problem happens again the next time. This makes the thing bit erratic and inconsistent.

If you want a remote control for your PC, particularly in the multimedia/home theater setting, this is the best device I could find. It is not perfect. I feel that if Logitech were to design and make this device, they could come up with an even better product. But unfortunately, Logitech does not make a compact PC remote control like this. The smallest Logitech wireless keyboard K400 is many times larger (about twice in each dimension, and eight times in volume), and four times heavier. The closest competition I saw was CE Compass Mini Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad Mouse PC Remote Control, but I did not try that primarily because it does not have backlit and also has a much shorter distance range. But it has some attractive features and could be a good alternative for other uses.

Highly recommended despite the issues I observed.

Reason for buying: I bought this mini wireless keyboard because like the majority of society today, I was lazy and wanted an all-in-one device to control my computer's desktop whilst sitting away from it. This is mainly due for using my computer to watch movies, which is hooked up to my tv.

First impressions: When it was delivered, I felt some sense of great relief. No more trekking those numerous footsteps to move my mouse at the desk or trying to move such said mouse in some form or fashion for the laser to read properly and move the cursor. This small contraption became what it was, I thought it was.

Reality: It works the way it's designed to, BUT don't expect it to last. It's good run was about 5 months. After that, it would begin to lag, I then searched around the internet for other reviews and found the same instances. As of right now when turning it on, the cursor will be moving erratically. Any attempt to move it would only make it put up a fight. The cursor would move only the distance allowed on the small track pad.

All the pros for this device can be read in the info section the company wrote. Sure they're nice to know in reviews, but I'd rather give the info a potential buyer, like myself, is worried about.

Buy OrientEX(TM) Rii Touch N7 2.4G Hz Mini Wireless Full Qwerty Keyboard For PC, HTPC, Apple, Xbox360, W Now

All it's missing is a (PS) key so you need a controller to quit Netflix and games and a shift key on the right, but other than that it works perfectly on PS3 and PC. It really is the size of a Hershey bar! The battery can be easily replaced unlike the laser pointer models, who needs that anyway?, and when those irreplaceable batteries die it's trash time for the whole thing. The charge cord is cool about 2 feet and splits into a full and mini usb so you don't lose one and you can plug the transmitter into it so it's next to where it charges. No signal issue, i"m typing this with the Rii Touch N7 mini wireless keyboard from 10 feet away which is more than plenty. So much better using this than lugging around the giant corded monster keyboard I was using. This is one super cool device, mouse control is decent it's really fast and fun to type on this and way faster than the on screen keyboard I had been using instead of lugging out the full sized monster. Proof that sometimes smaller and lightweight is better! if they add a PS button to the next model I'd buy that too and use this for PC and that for PS3 and wouldn't even need to move the transmitter which is no big bother anyway and only missing the PS button is not even enough to rate this awesome product less than a solid 5. Plus the illuminated keyboard looks tight, get one of these and show it off to your friends they'll be jealous. I recommend getting this one New OEM Rii Touch N7 2.4G Hz Mini Wireless Full Qwerty Keyboard For PC, HTPC, Apple, Xbox360, Wii, PS3 With Removable Battery [Black] from LapTopMate {2 others look identical except for the name on box}because it's definitely in brand new boxed condition and I noticed from other reviews they seem to stand behind their stuff more than the other companies selling similar ones. This was a steal at $39.99 I would've easily paid $50 or more. I just love new high tech gizmos that make life better and this very nicely finally rids me of that old wired monster keyboard thank goodness! A+ for Amazon!

--I was looking forward to receive my new mini bluetooth keyboard but when i got it i was happily surprised at the quality of the product it uses a rechargeable battery which is convenient and lasts a while.

--It also connects to all my bluetooth devices with ease and with great range. this is by far the best mini keyboard i have tested in the market and i highly recommend it to anyone who wants a pocket sized & lightweight keyboard thats super mobile.

--The keyboard has a great slim design and somehow the track-pad in the middle does help a lot. I can use it to connect my PC, MAC, Xbox, Ipad and many other devices.

--This is Made in China product which in most of the cases is but the quality is just great. I mean very good.

--The best part is the back-light of the keyboard. Close all the lights of your room while watching a movie and this little gadget can help you control from a distance.

All in all a good device.

Yep, we dumped cable and have gone with just on-line content(Netflix, Hulu+, YouTube, Pandora and various news webs sites). This little unit was the last piece of our set-up. I put the computer box in the office adjoining our T.V. room and ran the cables through the wall, including a USB extension cable to which I inserted the mini dongle for the Rii remote. Works flawlessly. The track pad is very responsive, I can move the mouse arrow across the 42" screen with ease. Hitting the "e" in the center immediately launches the web browser. The left and right mouse buttons on either side of the "e" work just like a regular mouse. All the keys are there plus Fn keys that allow you to control your computer's speakers, pause, FF, and RW content, as well as several other tasks. Also, using a combination of the Fn key and F7 lets you rotate the track pad 90 degrees so you can hold the remote in one hand and use it with your thumb like you would a standard remote. Fn + Enter works like CTRL + Alt + Del, (comes in handy when you want to take a look at Task Manager). Holds a charge for a very long time. As others have stated, it does shut off after a few minutes of not being used, but sliding the on/off switch on the left edge instantly restores it with no lag at all. The size is slightly larger and slightly thicker than a regular Hershey candy bar. It seems fairly sturdy as I have dropped it half a dozen times already and it has suffered no ill effects. The keyboard is definitely "Thumbs Only, Finger Need Not Apply". Adequate for entering in a Google Search but not realistic for writing anything longer. Having the back light feature is a really nice touch when you have the lights down and need to adjust sound or pause playback. Overall I think I'd give it about 4.3 stars.

PNY 128 MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card

PNY 128 MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card
  • Specifically designed for use with digital still cameras and camcorders, handheld PDAs, portable MP3 players and other products that use SmartMedia for standard or extended data storage
  • Compatible with today's most popular operating systems, such as Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000, OS/2 and Mac OS
  • No moving parts means much lower power consumption, and skip-free playback
  • A non-volatile storage medium - your data is not lost when batteries die
  • Store, erase, and reuse - PNY SmartMedia Cards can be written and rewritten thousands of times

I agree with the previous review. I also bought this card and used it on my Fuji 4700, but after several months of use, a card error comes up. I re-format as FAT or FAT32 and it will work by taking 3 pictures only, but will eventually come up with another card error. I also bought a Sandisk version and it did the same thing. I own 3 useless 128MB cards and the one I use now is a 16mb card that came with the camera.

Buy PNY 128 MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card Now

After a couple of weeks of use, the card failed work losing all the pictures from a trip to Arizona. Attempts to format and stick into card readers have failed. For the record, my camera is a Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom.

I am likely to think twice about buying another PNY product (I have a third video card by PNY which is adaquete but could be better).

Read Best Reviews of PNY 128 MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card Here

How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The PNY 128MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card, like most 128MB cards, will store on average 142 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 106 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 64 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 51 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 40 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

Want PNY 128 MB SmartMedia Flash Memory Card Discount?

Smart media cards seem prone to the error message, but I found that if you rub it lightly on the metal strip, it works well again. It's the price you pay when your camera doesn't use compact flash or SD cards. I use a Fujifilm FinePix 6800z.

I'm really surprised at the number of bad reviews for this product. I have a 16MB Olympus card that came with the camera (a D-550 zoom), a 64MB that I got as a bonus of some sort, and the 128MB PNY. I never use either of the smaller cards. I have taken at least 2GB worth of pictures over the past 2 years and only once had to reformat the card. That was because I pulled it out of the reader before it had finished writing. I am very careful to transfer any non-repeatable shots to my laptop, then to my desktop, where I keep a series of folders that I restrict to 600 MB. I burn these to CD-ROM about once a month, then delete everything off the camera card.

My only complaint is the transfer time, but this is the only type of portable media I use, so I don't know how it compares to other formats.

rooCASE Dual-Axis Leather Folio Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Black)

rooCASE Dual-Axis Leather Folio Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
  • rooCASE Dual-Axis Folio Cover for Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 10.1. Genuine Leather with Micro Suede Interior. (Compatible with NEW GALAXY Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113TSYXAR GT-P5113TSYXAR Release May 2012)
  • Detachable Inner Sleeve for Handheld Operation; Sleeve Reattaches to Folio by Velcro for Landscape or Portrait Viewing. (Tablet NOT Included)
  • 23-Way Adjustable Angles to Optimize Landscape / Portrait Viewing.
  • Magnetic Flap Closure. Elastic Loop for Stylus or Pen. Access to All Ports and Controls.
  • A MUST Have for all the NEW Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 10.1 Owners!!

Received a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as a gift, so I wanted to be sure to get a case right away to protect it. Because this tablet is fairly new on the market, there weren't a lot of cases to choose from, and for this one, I had to wait several days before this case was available. It was definitely worth the wait, because the cases that were already available didn't have the qualities I was looking for and looked cheaply made. This one is of decent quality and I expect it to work well to meet my needs and hold up well to daily use. This isn't really a complaint, but the title and description of this product says that this is a leather case, but I seriously doubt that this is real leather it does have the look and feel of leather though, and more importantly, will wipe clean.

Now that I've had it for a few days, I have found that the rooCase Dual-Axis (Black) is great in that it allows you to stand the tablet up in landscape or portrait at any one of the 23 'multiple angle adjustment' grooves as well as slide it forward past the grooves to rest at a nice angle for typing on the virtual keyboard. The tablet itself slides into a 'sleeve' that looks to be felt-covered cardboard that detaches from the case using velcro. To switch between landscape and portrait, simply detach the sleeve from the case and reattach it sideways.

The case has cutouts and slots for the speakers, power button, volume rocker, microSD slot, IR blaster, headphone jack as well as both the frontand rear-facing cameras. However, while there is a cutout for the power/charge port on the detachable sleeve, it is NOT accessible while the tablet is in the closed case. I think this is a major oversight. This means that, to charge the tablet, I have to leave the case open and the tablet exposed. You also can't stand the tablet up into the grooves while it's charging not without feeling like I'm damaging the charging cord.

It would be a nice addition if this case had a zipper or a strap to hold the case closed when not in use. (rooCase does have a similar zippered case, but it doesn't have all of the nifty angle adjustment grooves their zippered case appears to allow only one angle.)

All in all, this is a great case, but I will still be on the market for a better case when one comes along, particularly one that allows you to charge the tablet while it is in the closed case.

Buy rooCASE Dual-Axis Leather Folio Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Black) Now

Made of durable leather. It will protect the tablet and hold it securely. This is the 3rd rooCase I have bought and have not been disappointed yet. I chose these because you can detach the tablet and inner case from the sleeve so that it is more comfortable to hold. As far as some people complaining about the charging port not accessible when the case is closed, just un-velcro the inner case, flip it around 180 degrees and then the case will close and you can charge it at the same time. I don't like to leave my tablet exposed when it is sitting around charging.

Read Best Reviews of rooCASE Dual-Axis Leather Folio Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Black) Here

This case is great, almost perfect. The only thing I would like is for them to have a cut out for the charger on the outside cover but that is easily worked around by turning the inside tablet cover around so the charger hole faces outward. Very happy with this and will recommend to a family member that is looking for one.

Want rooCASE Dual-Axis Leather Folio Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (Black) Discount?

I ordered this case for my tablet because I need something to keep my tablet in instead of the box it came in lol. I was looking at a bunch of different cases here and based on the reviews I read and the ratings my eye was over this one. So I ordered this one. First off let me say that for this case it is shipped through USPS which is by far the worst. It took like a week for me to get it. Anyway, after receiving the case and opening it up I found that the case is relatively easy to use and is simple. Now I'm not an expert on leather so I can't tell you whether this is good or bad or is even leather itself. But the case is nice. Inserting the tablet is pretty straight forward. It fits nice and there really isn't a fuss trying to line up the camera with the opening. the magnets that keep the case closed seem pretty good. I had my tablet in the case closed and held it upside down and shook it a bunch of times and it didn't even open. Now I was going through other people's reviews and a bunch of people were saying you can't charge it while the case is closed. You CAN in fact. What I did was take out the tablet, insert it in the other way around and problem solved. The only thing is the magnets are on the other side so the case won't stick closed but it will just lay there. Angling the tablet is nice. To set it horizontal you just remove it from the Velcro and turn it simple as that. The price for the case for me is very reasonable, not over priced at all.

So here are my Pro's and Con's.......

Pro's:

The price very reasonable, not over priced

Easy to use, Easy to insert tablet, Easy to angle the tablet

Tablet has a nice fit inside the case, doesn't move around

Case doesn't take up a lot of space on the screen at all

Magnets in the case keep the case stuck closed.

Leather material is good, not rips on it or tear and wear

Con's:

Is shipped through USPS, nuff said

Case doesn't stay stuck closed when it's charging (not really a problem

Not sure is it's real leather or not

*Quick update*

forgot to mention there is a little sleeve on the side for like a pen or stylist. There is no strap so when you carry it it's like carrying a little notebook but it's not bad at all.

*Important Update*

Sorry about this but you can in fact charge the tablet while it is in the case and have it closed. Just insert the tablet into the case opposite of how it's suppose to be inserted and the magnets in the case will keep it closed. I did test it to see if it will stay closed by holding the whole case upside down and giving it a few good shakes and it did stay closed.

Save 50% Off

Not only does this case protect our tablet it also lets us use it as a stand for easy viewing, hands free! Very well built. So glad we purchased this!

Sony PEGA-CA62/B TG50 Carrying Case (Black)

Sony PEGA-CA62/B TG50 Carrying Case
  • Compatible with PEG-TG50
  • Lock/release mechanism to secure CLIÉ handheld
  • Extra pockets for Memory Stick media and business cards included
  • Made with durable and stylish polyurethane materials
  • Part of a complete line of SonyStyle CLIÉ accessories

I purchased this Sony-manufactured accessory for my PEG-TG50 Sony Clie, and I expected that it would last for as long as I owned the product. After all, it's just a carrying case, and it seemed relatively well made and stylish. However, the internal plastic lock/release mechanism that holds the Clie in place is broken after only two months of use. Not particularly durable! I'm exploring my warranty options even as I write this, but I'm not hopeful.

Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone

Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone
  • Handheld dynamic microphone with USB digital output and XLR analog output
  • USB output connects to your computer for digital recording, while the XLR output connects with your sound system conventional microphone input for use in live performance
  • Smooth, extended frequency response ideally suited for podcasting, home studio recording, field recording, voiceover, and on-stage use
  • Built-in headphone jack allows you to directly monitor your microphone output without audible delay
  • Cardioid polar pattern reduces pickup of unwanted sounds from the sides and rear
  • Dynamic Microphone With Usb Digital Output & Xlr Analog Output
  • Usb Output Connects To Computer For Digital Recording, While The Xlr Output Connects With Sound System'S Conventional Microphone Input For Use In Live Performance
  • Built-In Headphone Jack With Volume Control

This microphone is quickly becoming a standard for podcasters. It can be used without a mixer or preamp by connecting it to a computer with a USB cable. If you want to use it with a mixer, it also has XLR output. Both the USB and XLR outputs can be used at the same time.

The mic's sound is excellent. The podcaster's microphone of choice and justifiably so is the Heil PR40. It's the one that Leo Laporte uses on his Internet and radio shows. If you can afford a PR40, buy one. However, if you want to save some money and get a fabulous value, buy this mic. It's cheaper than a Shure SM58, a Blue Snowball, or Audio Technica AT2020, and it sounds better.

Buy Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone Now

I bought 2 of these mics to use as guest mics on my podcast and I'm floored by their sound quality. I have a Shure SM7B mic costing 7 times as much as this mic and although I like the Shure a little better, I'm sure that this is because of my investment. The ability to work with both USB and and XLR is another great plus.

The sound quality is amazing for a mic in this price range and in my opinion is equal to other mics costing at least triple the price. Unlike another rater, I haven't had any problems with my mics using the USB or a mixer.

This mic is cheap enough to buy as just a Skype mic, but also good enough to work well with podcasting, and by this I mean head and shoulders over some other cheap mics like the Blue Snowball. Also, because it is a dynamic mic it also cuts down on the background noise.

Please don't feel that this is some sort of starter mic, it isn't. Even for triple the price it would still be the best sounding mic in my humble opinion. Also, my Mackie mixer has no problem powering this mic and does so easily, plus it works great on USB mode.

The microphone was delivered a week early, and was an excellent buy. The mic is used for podcasting and just perfect for the job. Works perfectly on either my iMac or iPad.

Want Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone Discount?

I use this mic for podcasting, and I am very pleased with the quality for a $40 microphone. I run the USB output straight into my Apple MacBook Air MD224LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION) (with linein, soundflower and audacity so I can record Skype calls using the mic). It's completely plug and play with the Mac. If you speak at a normal conversational level, the levels may seem a bit low, but there is just about zero noise, so you can amplify it fearlessly and get fine results. Speaking with more of a stage voice or singing into it will results in higher levels if you want.

My only complaints are minor: the desk stand that comes with it is a little cheesy and light weight, so I can't mount my pop filter to it, and you definitely need a pop filter. You may want to get your own desk stand. Also, the blue LED light stays on even when you have the microphone switched off. Would that the LED changed color or went off when the switch was off.

I work for a company that produces quite a few podcasts, and we needed a bunch of common microphones. Everyone had something different, working with different acoustic environments, etc. I tested a few microphones, and went with the ATR2100, because it is friendly with most rooms, unlike many condenser microphones, due to it's very good off-axis rejection. In terms of signal to noise, it's not the cleanest thing around, and there is a bit of a mid-range peak that is particularly noticeable with my voice, not so bad with others, but that's all taken care of in post-production processing. Fortunately, what noise there is from the mic's internal preamp mostly appears to be preamp hiss, not that nasty USB system bus noise found on far too many interfaces, so it's easy to clean up with multi-band gates, FFT-based noise reduction, and other similar things. Most people don't complain about preamp noise from the ATR2100 in it's default, unprocessed state, and I've certainly seen far worse. The convenience factor makes up for it, anyway.

I've used the ATR2100 on Mac, Windows and iPad, all with good results. I've also used it as a standard analog microphone with a few preamps, ART TPS-II, Focusrite Saffire Pro14, and in-line with a Cloudlifter CL1, and others. Not bad, but not my favorite microphone for my particular voice. That having been said, microphones are incredibly subjective, and a mic that sounds terrible on your own voice may sound great for someone else.

elago Stylus Multi-use Guitar Pick with micro-fiber pad for iPhone4 / 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod Touch,

elago Stylus Multi-use Guitar Pick with micro-fiber pad for iPhone4 / 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod Touch,Galaxy Tab
  • Designed for iPhone, iPad and iPod iTouch,Galaxy Tab
  • Soft touch pen-point for better screen-protection.
  • Micro-fiber back pad and lanyard peg.
  • Precise touch and control, easily avoid pressing the wrong keys.

This device allows you to use your phone with your gloves on. Just pick up the stylus and click away!

I like that it uses a soft material to avoid scratching the screen protectors most people use on their phones. It certainly won't scratch the glass screen on a phone.

I also like that the conductive material used to register the clicks wraps around the entire device so that you don't have to hold it at a particular angle to get it to work like some others.

The only detracting feature is that it is not easily attached to most of the popular phones on the market these days. Other items of this type have a small plug that you insert into the headphone jack to keep it handy and secured so that you don't lose it.

Buy elago Stylus Multi-use Guitar Pick with micro-fiber pad for iPhone4 / 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod Touch, Now

This "guitar pick" stylus works well for both taping and swiping (scrolling).

The only problem with it is that since it is shaped the way it is, it obscures a good portion of the screen.

Hint: hold it sideways, use the tip for tapping and the side for swiping.

Nice quality; glad I bought it.

Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector (1.9 Pounds)

Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector
  • LED projector for long lamp life and low power consumption
  • DLP technology for crisp images
  • 1.9 lbs for easy portability
  • PC (DB-15) and composite video connectivity
  • 150 ANSI lumens for vibrant images

I bought this as I often give presentations to small groups and wanted a "portable TV" when traveling. I was torn between this and the Dell M109S. I did a ton of research on both items and bought the Samsung in the end, even though it was $200 more. The Samsung is MUCH brighter, has sound, and can be bought from Amazon with its better customer service than Dell.

I used it to watch an entire movie with a group and they loved it. We projected it onto just the plain wall and the brightness was just fine with a lamp light turned on nearby. You won't be able to use it during broad daylight for a movie (presentation perhaps).

The thing I love about it is that it's on full brightness all the time! My friend bought a $1500 projector a while ago and he's always concerned about bulb time, the brightness level, etc. I don't have to worry about any of it. It's so refreshing to have a projector where you don't have to worry at all about conserving the bulb. It's a HUGE stress reliever. That's what you want in a portable projector, one that you can just pack and go and not worry about everytime you use. The bulb will last the lifetime of the projector.

Yeah, the 800*600 resolution isn't HD, but it's ok. It's good enough for presentations and movies. You're never going to use HD for presentations putting up tons of text onto a screen will drive the audience crazy!

I carry the projector in my laptop bag with all its accessories. So in on medium size bag, I have my Dell M1210, the Samsung P400, and all the necessary wires and power. It's great!

The only negatives are that the power brick is huge! It's about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the projector. The second negative is the sound. I read reviews that the sound was decent, but it's only decent for presentations. But for movies, it's not the best... having a portable speaker would greatly help. I have the Logitech MM portable speaker which is great and tiny.

And oh! One huge thing that I hadn't read is that the Samsung has a tripod mound. The Dell does NOT. Because these projectors are so small, using a tripod greatly stabilizies the projector.

Buy Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector (1.9 Pounds) Now

I have it almost 1 month. It works well. Now I can enjoy 100+" Display with this 600+ dollars. Of course, I need to close the curtain when I use this 150 ANSI lumens only project. But don't forget: It's LED, i.e. it is supposed to be used for 10 hrs, 365 days a year, and 5 years long. And it weights 2 pounds only! I am really satisfied with it... as long as it can operate as long as a normal LED product should do.

Read Best Reviews of Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector (1.9 Pounds) Here

I was very skeptical because of that LED technology and only 150 lumen

but I have to say I am very nicely surprised. Sure with bright light in the room the image is quite dim but who watch movies during the day??? Same thing and quality as in theater. It can be still visible with full light in the room but when you dim the light quality is like in regular LCD screen, really great colors and contrast.

I was thinking about buying 52 inch LCD TV soon to my living room but I've changed my mind, what for paying over 4 time as much money and have 52 inches heavy, non portable screen when I have 80 inches which I can bring with me in my laptop bag! plus I can watch it anywhere I want, on the wall, on the ceiling etc. It's also great addition for a party, I can display some images or video clips on the wall with music from my computer.

For a moment I was undecided between viewsonic PJ513DB projector which was much cheaper but the cost of the bulb is just not worthy. With samsung I don't have to worry about bulbs at all, and it's half the other projectors weight and it's also quieter. Although the power supply is like a brick :) I definitely recommend it.

Want Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector (1.9 Pounds) Discount?

This projector is awesome, for what it is. It is best suited for presentations, as the native resolution is 800 x 600. I was able to drive other resolutions, such as 1280 x 960, but the image is relatively fuzzy at those resolutions for looking at small text or web pages. For PowerPoint, I can't tell a lot of difference, and for my slides, the 800 x 600 is fine for PowerPoint.

I am driving this with a MacBook Pro using Apple's DVI->SVGA adapter. Works great out of the box.

Some reviews has mentioned that this projector is challenging in low-light situations. I have found is more than suitable in my office, where I have it sitting on my desk, pointing at a wall for an 80" screen size. The projector is about 10 ft from the wall. With the lights off, the image is, of course, much nicer, but even with the lights on, colors are good and the image is more than readable.

There is a bit of a "screen door" effect when looking at the image up close (a few inches) but it's unlikely your audience is going to be that close to the image.

Physically, the projector is very small. It's about as tall as a package of dental floss and takes up about the same desk space as a paperback book. Although it is very light at 2 lbs, beware that the power supply weighs about 1 lb as well, which I hadn't considered when looking at the weight.

There is a focus knob on the left of the projector, though there is no adjustable foot on the bottom. There is a threaded hole on the bottom for mounting, most likely upside down, and a software setting can be used to flip the image.

The case is very slick plastic that attracts fingerprints, but regardless it is very sharp.

Because the bulb is an LED, the projector puts out very little heat compared to most others, and it doesn't seem to have the complicated shut off procedure that most projectors have. There is a little bit of fan noise from it, but it's low enough that I don't mind having it on my desk.

I was surprised, but the project comes with a remote that enables access to the on-screen menus, toggling the source input, and so on. The remote is about the size of an iPhone, but a bit thinner. It uses a circular battery like a watch does, but I imagine it will last a long time.

So the only real negative for me is the huge and weighty power supply. However, given the low price, the great quality, the eliminated consumable cost of $300 bulbs, this project is perfect for presentations and other low-res work like video conferencing. However, if you want to use it as a desktop monitor, you're going to want something that can do higher res. As another reviewer mentioned, this projector doesn't come with a carrying case, so an older camera bag or something might be handy to protect it before throwing it in your carry-on. I intend to travel with this projector, and will update this review with how it fares in a few months.

I am very, very happy with this product.

Unit is nice and compact and easy to operate(great for the business traveler). However, unless the room is darkened a bit, the projector's brightness via the LED technology can be a bit challenging to view. We plan to hold on to the projector but we will be a bit more selective in its use than originally intended.

iGadgitz Clear Tough Crystal Gel Skin (Thermoplastic Polyurethane TPU) Back Cover for Apple iPad 2 +

iGadgitz Clear Tough Crystal Gel Skin Back Cover for Apple iPad 2 + Screen Protector. Custom made for use with Smart Cover Attached..
  • Manufactured for use with iPad 2 Smart Cover. (SMART COVER NOT INCLUDED).
  • iGadgitz custom made gel skin made from hardened transparent TPU for the Apple iPad 2nd Generation.
  • Total access to all controls and functions whilst case and Smart Cover are in place.
  • Supplied with custom screen protector that will work with your smart cover attached.

I just received this back cover and it works just as described with my iPad2. It fits snugly and has precise cutouts for all the iPad's buttons, ports and speaker. It also works great with the smart cover in place. I like that I can still see the brushed aluminum back of the iPad itself with this cover on. The cover has no odor (I'm sensitive to these things) and has a nice feel a little bit grippy but not overly so. I realize it's not designed to protect the iPad if it gets dropped, but it's a good compromise for me because it adds very little weight and protects the iPad's back from scratches. A good value at around $10 since you also get a screen protector.

Update: this cover is just thick enough that it doesn't allow the iPad2 to seat into the Apple iPad 2 dock, so I'm removing one star.

Buy iGadgitz Clear Tough Crystal Gel Skin (Thermoplastic Polyurethane TPU) Back Cover for Apple iPad 2 + Now

This gel skin had a nice feel and the fit around the ports was tight, but it left at least a 1/4" gap between the naked aluminum back of the ipad and the smartcover, too much for me to keep it, as I imagine that strip of exposed aluminum will really get scratched over time.

Looking for battery for older model opthalmascope. Pleased with the price and quick turn around time. So far seems to be in good operating order, able to fully charge.

I bought these batteries as replacements for my ancient batteries (from the 1980s). For under $8 a battery, this is a STEAL so I figured to try it out. (Afterall, from the medical supplier, the costs NOT including tax or shipping was $25 per battery).

These batteries are pretty much identical to the ones I had. Work perfectly and hold their charges just like you'd expect.

If you want a great deal, these batteries are the ones for your scope.
