Found this today while out @ Fry's for $4.99 so I took a chance. Since my needs are minimal (occasional iPod 5G use in non-iPod integrated vehicles) I thought it might be nice to get one with dual USB ports, just in case.

After taking it out to the parking lot I recall how a number of these chargers don't always work in every car. So I plugged it into my '04 TSX 12V power port and low and behold it lite up, so far so good.

Since my car has dual 12V ports (with flip-up protective covers)and because the charger is not a flush mount (sticks out more than an inch) it appears somewhat awkward and prevents the covers from closing. Next I relocated it to the power port inside the center console storage compartment (below armrest). As soon as I did the device began to flicker. After removing and reinserting it, it failed completely.

Only after closer inspection did I notice the center pin was dislodged and fully retracted (should be spring loaded and fully extended). I grabbed my receipt, product and packaging and immediately returned it (all within 15 minutes of purchasing it). Rather then exchanging it, I decided to wait and reassess my options.

I post this as a heads up to anyone contemplating this model (also branded under other names)...

BTW, I'm not completely heartless so I gave it 2 stars instead of one primarily because of:

Bottom line, I don't expect much of electronics (other then work reliably for a reasonable time) but if a device fails within the first half hour... time to start over. It's also the best way I know to send a message to companies regarding inferior merchandise quality.

I really enjoyed this project right up until it broke. It's not too long, so you can fit it into a tight space. It also puts out a lot of power, nonstop.

The trouble is, if you pull it out and put it back in too many times, the shell starts to crack, and the fuse falls out. Replacement fuses are very hard to find. Eventually the tip fell out and the whole thing split apart. My wife's unit, however, is still going strong because she leaves it in.

When plugged in and turned on, it works ok. But there is a serious voltage spike when you first power this up. Apparently no filtering is used at all. Messed up my phone. So only add/remove devices AFTER it is plugged in and powered.

And that big bright blue light...what a waste of energy! This thing is BRIGHT. In the dark it lights the whole car. So even when nothing is plugged in, it's still drawing alot of power. Annoying and unnecessary.

I like this scanner. Previously I had cannon flatbed scanner, but recently I install Win7 for which Cannon doesn't want to update drivers, so I had to pick another device.

Biggest downside for PS410 is that it will not scan all the way to the edge of the page since scanning light is 1", 0.5", 0.75" and 0.25" away from the edge of the device, and scanner will not scan if rollers don't spin. I ended up throwing the AC adapter into the trash. It did not work. It actually drained the battery on my Kobo, and did so rather quickly. I don't know what the problem was, but the adapter was truly terrible.

In the REAL world it is understood that when you buy a "pen", it comes containing a cartridge as part and parcel of the "pen" (ie: body+original cartridge=pen). Accordingly, I saw nobody out there selling empty pen-shells or who felt it necessary to mention that their pens actually also include ink; it is just understood that a pen comes ready to write. Also in the REAL world, "Refill" means... additional ... replacement to an original. Commonly, to say a pen comes "WITH" something it would suggest something added to ....extra. ... along-with.

That is the REAL word, but apparently THIS vendor lives in a world where its ok to omit the ORIGINAL ink cartridge, preload their "Refill" and charge you a dollar or two more than the competition for this service ... while playing word-tricks to fool customers who think they're actually getting 2 total cartridges.

If the vendor simply meant to describe the one cartridge in the package... would it not have been more honest to say :

"Monteverde One-Touch Originals Stylus Ballpoint Pen; cartridge writes 1.4mm Super Broad." ?

Hard to say if this vendor is dishonest or simply stupid but...buy your single-cartridge pen from someone else and save a couple bucks on that phantom "Refill".

A friend gave me a broken 4th generation ipod. I pulled out the old harddrive and put this one in instead: It's a thin, single platter model so it will fit in the same case as a 20 gigabyte model. Despite being produced later than the 4th generation ipod, it runs fine in it! A 5th generation ipod or later uses a different connection type, so be aware.

I got my iPod clickwheel (I think it's 2nd or 3rd generation) in 2005 and it is still going strong thanks to this hard drive. I could tell it was time to replace the hard drive because I kept getting the file folder icon or whatever it is and the thing wouldn't boot. I was also excited that I could upgrade from 20 GB of memory to 30 GB. Just find some instructions on the web for replacing the hard drive, then reinstall all the software from your computer and you're ready to go. Contrary to what they tell you at the Apple store, the cost of repairing an old iPod is NOT the same as the price of a new iPod.

This was a perfect, and economical, replacement for my 4th Gen iPod. The original was 20GB and this 30GB gave me just that extra bit of space. It was very easy to replace the drive. I now have this older iPod in my car all the time so I have all my music with me.

All I can say is just "WOW" thank you for helping me finally replace my Hard drive on my 20GB 4th gen (Non photo) iPOD. Having washed the pod (don't ask, I'm STILL not too happy about that) and then having to wait about 2 years (at the time the cost of replacement parts was MORE then a new iPOD. I was able to actually get the old girl back up and running.

on a whim one day, I decided to see what the cost of parts for the 4th gen was. Having known that many MANY generations had followed, I thought it might not be THAT much and this iPOD hold a special place in my heart, as it was a present from my wife. After doing much searching and googling I found that not only could I replace the drive BUT I could go from a 20GB to a 30GB sized drive for 5.00 MORE. It was too good to pass up honestly and since it was less then 40.00 I decided to take the risk.

Shipping was great, very prompt and in no time I had the drive sitting on my desk. After gathering enough courage I was able to open the pod (and THAT was quite hard) and replace the drive. After ordering, I was a bit concerned that the new larger drive would not fit. However, reading the reviews, made me more comfy with the idea that the 20GB and 30GB used the same form factor 1.8 AND where both single platter.

Replacement went without a hitch, and after replacing the battery as well, I took the leap and plugged in the pod for power. I've had my Visor for 2 months now and it has been a great purchase. Compared to the Palm IIIe and Palm M100, I believe it is superior in almost every facet. My girlfriend has a Palm IIIe and the only drawbacks I can think of for the visor are: the cover, the stylus, and lack of ROM. The cover is definitely a little annoying to deal with and handspring should really create a flip cover like palm devices have. The stylus that comes with the visor isn't as nice as the one that comes w/ the IIIe, but this is rather minor as it is plenty good to get the job done. The lack of ROM isn't as big of an issue to me because newer versions of the OS are mainly different to allow the newer devices' features to work properly (color display for Palm IIIc and Visor Prism), and in most cases do not affect the functionality of older devices. On the other hand, the visor can offer users so many more possibilities than a comparable device by palm. Springboards are now abundant and the options available are really amazing (check them out before you buy either palm or handspring). Although currently they are relatively expensive, as with any new technology, in due time the price will come down to level where the average buyer will be able to afford them. One main reason I bought a visor rather than a comparable palm was because I was worried that RAM would be an issue sometime in the near future. With Visor, you can buy a RAM springboard and get on with life again, with a Palm, what you start off with is what you will end up with. Before I bought mine, I didn't know how much I would use my visor or what I would use it for. I didn't want to get stuck with a device that wouldn't meet my needs if I ended up using it a lot.

Finally, just some advice for those buying PDAs: regardless of which brand you buy, think about what you will use it for. For example, if you aren't going to have a ton of reference data or books stored on your PDA, 2 MBs will get you through quite a bit. Buy a PDA that will take care of your needs, but also one that will allow a little growth (most people don't realize how much potential there is for their PDA... tons of free downloadable programs). Finally, I highly suggest buying some type of protective case (there are some nice small ones out there that aren't too bulky, e.g. a palmglove or the new handspring neoprene) for carrying your PDA around in. Whatever brand you buy, it won't be able to hold up to very many drops (if any) or sitting down on in your back pocket.

I bought the Visor after my Philips Nino DIED after less than two months of service. The short battery life of the Nino wasn't nice, but the short life of the BACKUP battery definitely hurt! I didn't bother getting it changed, the Nino is in the bin.

So, I had the obvious choice of the Palm platform. It is robust, no crashes (yes, CE crashes big time), highly compatible (CE has compatibility problem with Win NT! ) and has extremely long battery life (2 months, versus 2 days for CE powered devices). The obvious choice was Palm IIIe for a no-frill technology minded engineer like me. However, Handspring popped up on my screen at the right time. Now this is what I call value.

Handspring was established by the inventor of the original Palm Pilot and the team consists of all the key personnel of Palm Computing (before they left!). The Visor, from all that I have read, was developed to OVERTAKE Palm, in terms of productivity, infinitely upgradeability and value. The Visor is selling at around the same price as the Palm IIIe and has about the same specifications. However, while the Palm IIIe will always be what it is, the Visor can be upgraded through the purchase of SpringBoard modules. These modules include memory, backup software, games (like PGA Golf), digital camera (you read RIGHT!) etc etc, and a lot are on the pipeline. And remember, anything that runs on Palm will run on the Visor, they use the same operating system. Also, Visor comes with the IMPROVED version of Datebook, called Datebook+, and it's more useful than ever. It is so user friendly it requires NO learning on my part and I could almost run it straight out of the box.

Now you know why the Visor is a better choice than Palm III, and even Palm V. Identify your need. If you see less than 1200 friends normally, I guess you would be very happy with the normal Visor (also, really great for college students, believe me). If you are the gadget guy, go get the Deluxe version (with more RAM and comes in five tasty colors). Still want to get the Palm? Well, feel free...I stick with my Visor, with a big smile knowing that it is 110% well worth the money.

I used a Palm pilot for a year and then had to give it up when I left my job. The Palm interface is brilliant and totally friendly, so I didn't want to lose that. Because of the price, I was attracted to the Visor. Having used it for a couple of months, I like the Visor at least as much as the pilot, if not more. The only negative is that the Visor is slightly larger and I can feel it in my shirt pocket.

Otherwise, I think the Visor buttons are more responsive. I love the City Time program that comes with it. This not only gives the time in four other cities besides your own, but the graphic displays a "sun clock" that shows a worldmap with continents in day or night. Also, touch the map and city times pop up.

The Date book plus is a fine improvement over the Palm date book. I use it as my daily to do list. It allows you to give 'floating appointment' which you check off when done. If you don't complete it, it pops up on the following day.

The Visor calculator is many steps up from the Palm, it lets you do all kinds of conversions, miles to KM, ounces to grams, temperature, length, area, volume and finance, so I could get rid of my HP 12C, too.

I like the USB port which syncs about twice as fast as the serial one did.

I like the fact that the batteries are replaceable. When I traveled with the pilot, I was always concerned about using it too much as its charge went down. (I play cribbage and hearts on the pilot on airplanes.) With the Visor, I just bring spare batteries.

I have ordered an expansion module with another 8MB because there are so many cool programs available for the Palm operating system.

In summary, you get the benefit of the very friendly Palm operating system and some improvements in design for a lower price.

I don't think there's any other PDA more worth its value. All the Palms are over rated, expensive and can't be expanded. My friend has a M100 and it's not worth the money. Other PDAs like the Jornada and the one by Compaq don't have the Palm operating system and that's a major flaw. Sony's PDA has Palm OS but costs 400 dollars. It's worth it's value because of the memory stick capabilities, but I can't think of anybody who has 400 bucks to spend on a PDA. The Visor is just perfect and at only $180, it's very reasonable. All the functions of the visor is the same as the Palm and I don't understand why someone can chose something that can't be expanded if it costs the same price.

I finally gave up trying to balance home/work/family. I decided to keep everything in one place and the Handspring Visor was something I could afford that included everything that I wanted. Its great easy to learn with the display instruction. I popped the batterys in and started using it in seconds. I carry it with me where ever I go and I can say it is making my life easier already. From birthdays, grocery list, events and TO DO list. Its got it all. You don't have to be an executive or know anything about computers. Its great MOMS will love it!

I'm a long-time Palm user with limited money to spend tech-toys, so I have to make my investments count. Most recently, I had a Palm Zire 72 that I have absolutely worn out. Awesome machine that I needed to replace.

I purchased the Palm TX after much thought and review. I find it as easy as my Zire was with some neat enhancements and great tools -and some odd hitches.

First off: WiFi. Easy to connect, easy to use, smooth and fast. Blazer is a dream and the combination make it my favorite way to browse Bloglines.

The switchable views, landscape to portrait and back, smooth and nice. Combined with my Palm Keyboard, I have a useful writing platform for just about any situation.

I know the Palm OS is old, but this did have some nice improvements over my three-year-old Zire:

I like that I can click and hold the "Home" Button to instantly switch between applications, without having to go through the "Applications" menu.

What I don't like: Versa Mail. I cannot get it to work to save my life, and Palm has been little help. I've given up for the moment and use Blazer and Gmail for my emailing needs.

I don't like that Blazer does not support uploads, which is an issue for me.

I also don't like that two security upgrades were not installed on the system when I unboxed. I have yet to install the second -which cost $5, by the way -because it requires a full reset and I will have to reset my preferences and third party applications by hand. Both security upgrades should have been part of the ROM from the very beginning.

All in all, however, quite pleased with this.

I had to replace a Treo accidentally damaged. I found after trying it that having both phone and PDA in one unit was unsatisfactory for me, largely because the unit was too bulky to wear comfortably on my belt. Going back to a tiny phone (Razr) and separate PDA has been a relief. And what a PDA. This unit comes without a keyboard, but the virtual keyboard is so easy to access and the graffiti writing recognition system has been so improved, that I don't notice the absence of the keyboard most of the time. Adequate memory, expansion card slot, and excellent resolution of the LCD screen are all bonuses. And the hard case even has two slots for keeping extra memory cards handy. I bought the PDA instead of the Treo because I didn't want to pay for a data plan as well as a voice plan. I chose the Palm TX with the hard case because it could go online, keep my calendar, lists, memos, and Office documents/sheets.

Overall, it works well. I haven't used the Office stuff much, but the Word works well. The colors are bright on the screen and the different apps are fairly easy to get too. It is a bit of a bummer that you have to go back to the main page/table of contents in order to get to another application.

The hard case works well although it is slippery. Plus, it's hard to get open at first. Remember to push the side with the arrow back a little bit.

I like my purchase and it does make my life easier. I wish it would stay on longer though.

It's a nice looking case on our white iPad mini, bright blue ands fits nice and snug. There is one small cutout in the back that seems to be useless, but its barely noticeable. Also the edges of the rubber case are a little rough, not bad, but noticeable. It's the typical TPU case you would get at a mall kiosk, but the price is better here. My only gripe is that there is definitely a conflict with the screen protecter that I installed. The case peeled up the corner of the screen protector in minutes. I guess if you don't use a screen protector this would be a perfect fit.

Hitachi 4gb Digital Microdrive High Speed Memory Card

After 40,000 shots, 2 cameras, 1.5 years and many drops, this chip still performs perfectly. I've used it heavily and aggressively and have had a great experience at a great price. Its almost as fast in write speeds but slower in read speeds during computer upload. There are some myths about the chip that its slow and fragile, which I'll explain below is just totally wrong.

Speed:

On my old Canon 20D, I got its full claimed buffer in RAW and JPEG. On my newer Canon 5D (12.8 megapixel), I get 17 instead of the 19 claimed RAW pictures during continuous shooting, and I pretty much can't run out the JPEG (well over 50). I've used the Sandisk II, and after some testing, I found that the write speed was almost the same, but the read speed is about 1/3 slower when loading onto the computer. Not a big deal, since the write speed is a bigger priority while shooting. Yesterday, I loaded the whole 4gb chip into Apple Aperture in 14 minutes.

Space:

On the 20D or 30D, you'll get almost 500 in RAW, but on my 5D, I get under 280, so I'm now shopping around for a 8gb chip. You might try the 6gb rather than the 4gb since its getting cheaper.

The "Fragile" Myth:

People always say that the microdrive is more "fragile" than the compact flash, which I can say with absolute certainty is B.S. Most people who criticize the microdrive have never used it or known anyone who used it last time I checked, judging without knowing is called ignorance, no offense.

Anyway, I shoot my college football team, for the college newspaper, and frequently I do landscape and wildlife photography, so I'm frequently taking the chip in and out of my camera and dropping it on occasion. I've have used the camera at 20 degrees, in the hot and humid Florida sun, and have had a light sunshower, but yet the chip keeps going after 1.5 years.

Also:

All microdrives are made by Hitachi, even from Sony. Hitachi bought the division from IBM a few years back, and Hitachi will sell under other names for more market share. Don't waste your money on stupid brand image, just buy the one you find cheaper, which is probably the Hitachi.

Many people say, this chip doesn't work with this camera, especially on older reviews. If the firmware on your camera is old, it may not support any large chip, so update your camera first.

I bought this microdrive a year ago for my new Nikon. I guide on adventure travel trips and wanted a way to store a bunch of high resolution photos. I have not regretted the purchase one bit. I have used it often at high altitude and in sub zero weather. How high? Base camp at Kanchenjunga, Nepal, the third highest peak in the world, 18,500 ft. And, on the top of Kilimanjaro, 20,000. The drive is slower at those altitudes, but then again, it was below zero. The first time you start up the camera in very cold weather, it SEEMS to get a little longer to fire up the microdrive.

My drive needed formatting. I read somewhere that its better to do it attached directly to the computer. So, I plugged the drive in a memory adapter plugged into a USB port of my computer. Worked like a charm.

I bought two of these 4 GB drives from different vendors and about a year apart, yet I have had the same problem with both of them. At just over 1 gig of photos it starts giving me 'corrupt image' notices, and I have gotten to where I can tell when it's going to happen, because when it does, the camera's display stays on too long after I have taken a shot and then all of my manual settings are reset. I am trying to find research on why it does this, because the reason I bought 4 gigs was so that I did not have to worry about backups while traveling. Now I have to take my laptop or a secondary backup device with me on long trips, which can be cumbersome when travelling internationally, because when these errors begin to happen I have to backup the drive immediately and re-format the card or I can't even continue taking photographs. I have a Canon Eos that's only 3 years old, so the camera should not be the problem.

Much to MY DISAPOINTMENT, went to download the images to my computer, and there's NADA, nothing. I've use a dozen different programs to 'recover' loss data/images, but nothing. These were not made of the same material as what I was replacing. Very sticky and tough to get out of the little plastic bag they came in. Also, they seem to be less durable I tore the small size apart trying to put it on my headset. luckily I had purchased two sets.

Next time I will probably buy directly from plantronics, but in all fairness they may have changed suppliers and maybe this is just how they are now. But all manufacturers just want you to buy a new headset instead of replacement earbuds, so I guess it makes sense for them not to put too much effort into this type of product.

Eartips worked great for about 3 weeks and I thought I had finally found something that would work with my Jawbone II. Unfortunately, as time went on, the material that the eartips are made from discolored, stretched out and softened to the point where they would no long stay on the headset or hold in my ear. My wife had the same problem with hers.

I actually bought a second set and they did the same thing. In addition, the eartips were actually "sticky" when I received them in the plastic package, but soon changed appearance and form as mentioned above. It is too bad, because they worked great when new.

My original Jabra eartip lasted me 2 years until it broke. I haven't had my new one even 2 months! It is now ugly yellow and completely diformed. Needless to say it doesn't stay in. Not really happy with the purchase. The plastic quality is not even close!

I'm in the same boat as another reviewer. I replaced my router with a Linksys AE2500, bought a new modem (Motorola Surfboard SB6120) and purchased a Linksys AE2500 adapter for my wife's computer upstairs. Everything about the setup is rock-solid except this AE1200.

Intermittent connectivity issues. Unplugging and replugging fixes the issue, but this adapter just isn't worth the hassle. I would also note that I'm running Windows 7 (32bit) on a fresh install and the computer is only 10 feet from the adapter. There shouldn't be any issues.

Spend the extra money for the AE2500. I'm having no issues with that.

Perhaps the other 5 star reviews haven't used this long enough. Trust me, you are better off to just spend the 20-30 extra dollars for a better wireless adapter. Mine will cut out, and not cut back in constantly, I've literally reverted to just using my cell phone as the modem because this thing is so inconsistant and since my cell phone works I know it isn't my router. It will stay connected perfect for about 2 days and on the third it will cut out and i'll have to unplug it and plug it in several times and restart my computer just to get internet again. Sometimes, I have to reinstall the software just to get it to kick back on.

You get what you pay for.

I replaced an older Linksys router with a Linksys E1200, and needed an adapter for my Compaq 6910p Win XP laptop in order to take advantage of the N-band speeds .. or so I thought. The adapter does work, but I'm seeing the adapter randomly throttle anywhere between 52 and 130 Mbps. It eventually settles down in the 117-130 Mbps range, so at least it's falling on the hi-side. Signal strength is consistently flagged as 'excellent', so I can't complain there. No dropped connections, yet, but I've only had it for a few days now. The adapter does heat up quite a bit though. Not enough to melt the plastic case, but enough to be a bit disconcerting. I haven't used other N-band adapters, so there's nothing to compare it with. For now it does seem like a decent laptop adapter anyhow, except for the heat issue. I'd say 3.5 4 stars overall.
