AAXA's P2 is the best art projector I've used. For that application, it deserves five stars. With the P2 positioned over my desk, I can essentially turn my entire drafting table surface into a computer screen. The P2's 33 lumens are bright enough for a satisfactory image with room lights on. Like any other projector, the image needs to be shaded from sunlight, but the room does not need to be dark.

The P2 is generally marketed for business/PowerPoint presentations. Any shortcomings there are likely due to variable environments, but the projector is terrific in a controlled studio. I've used an inexpensive microphone stand to suspend the P2 over my work table. I wrapped black electrician's tape around the mini-tripod's legs for a secure attachment to the end of the microphone boom. The P2 can be pointed straight down toward a flat table or angled to match the tilt of a slanted drawing board. At 30 inches over the table it projects a bright 15x12 inch image with room lights on. At 66 inches over the surface (the full extent of my stand), the projected image is a clear 30x22 inches with subdued room lighting. The P2 produces a vivid image over six feet in width in a darkened room.

I get the sharpest image from the P2 when I set my laptop PC to 800x600 at 60Hz refresh rate. The auto-detect settings on the PC wanted to use 1024x768 resolution. While that works, the projected image is somewhat blurred. When I first switched to 800x600, my PC wanted to run at 70Hz refresh rate, but the P2 couldn't decode the signal. I had to use the graphics adapter's advanced settings to force a 60Hz refresh rate. The PC graphics adapter can also easily switch to portrait mode or mirror the image so I don't need to reposition the projector.

I prefer the PC as the source because I can easily pan and zoom the image, but my Zune also generates a clear image with the P2. Apparently, Microsoft's Zune software automatically resizes images when they are loaded on the Zune player, making them near perfect for the P2. Unfortunately, the Zune AV cable from AAXA is ridiculously short (12 inches), and so the player has to be suspended from the overhead boom with the projector. That makes it hard to reach the Zune player when I'm sitting at the table.

The P2 reads jpg files from internal memory or a micro SD card, but to get a clear image you need to manually resize picture files to 800x600 pixels or smaller before loading them in the projector. That's a hassle. As noted below, controlling internally stored pictures is also difficult when the projector is overhead.

There are a couple annoyances with the P2 design. Since the P2 projector's IR sensor is on the back edge of the unit next to the VGA connector and pointed at the room's ceiling, the P2's remote doesn't work when the projector is overhead. That's not much of an issue when I control the picture with the PC. Also, the projector's fan makes a hissing noise sort of like an overhead air vent on a jetliner, but I don't notice it when concentrating. The fan noise doesn't interfere with playing music on my audio system while I work.

Compared to traditional art projectors (huge, hot, heavy things that produce dim images by reflection off a paper source) the AAXA P2 is a wonder.

My first written review on amazon. I have benefitted so much from the amazon communities reviews that I felt compelled to return the favor. Just got this projector as a early Christmas present. Opened it immediately, hooked it up my standard DVD (component) player and wow. Let me give you a little background about me so you can rate my wow factor. I am a technophobe with little money. So i read and research things to the nth degree but rarely buy anything. I have been researching pico projectors for over 6 months. Our family doesn't watch much tv hence we have a 14" Toshiba non-hdtv as the family tv. I know shame on me but enough of the ridicule, lets move on. We have cable tv but only one show is watched if you know what I mean. With four girls all under 14, its all about the Disney channel. Now back to the P2. Hooked it up, turned off the lights and wow!. Not HDTV by anymeans but not bad compared to my 14" tube Toshiba. Next up was the Wii. Not much expected since its only component out, but 72" sure beats 14" and more wow.

Basically I had finally given in and decided to step up to a larger TV which are all prettmy much HDTV now. As a upgrade from the Toshiba I was researching Projectors, Plasmas and LCD's. I work for a company that makes both LCD's and Plasmas so it was toss-up for me. Didn't care for the glare of the plasma even though I liked the picture so it came down to a Projector or LCD. Missed all the Black friday sales but kept on researching. Found a couple of LCD's but just couldn't pull the trigger if you know what I mean. A little bird in my ear was telling me to wait. I just couldn't settle in my mind paying ~$500-700 for only a 32-40" picture. With pico technology growing I thought I'd wait a little longer. Researched the 3M, aiptek and all the other current pico's. All had little things that I didn't like in addition to poor or just fair picture quality. This fact was leading me back toward LCD's along with the fact that I couldn't justify having to replace $250-$300 bulbs every 2000 hours for regular projectors. Along comes the P2. Well actually the P1 which lead to the P2. I was intrigued by their size and 20,000 hour bulb life. More and more research (online and cr___igslist) and then to my suprise a gift arrives with the giver telling me to open it now to make sure it works correctly. That moment lead me to right now, writting this review. I can say without a doubt YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH THIS PROJECTOR! It's worth it plain and simple. If you want HDTV then its not for you. If you want to be able to have the portabilty of this type of projector, 14" to 72"+ screen, multiple A/V hook-up options and be able to just about wow everyone that you show it to, then just buy it. This A2 is truly the best of not only both worlds, but multiple worlds. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.

Here's the dilemma: You're in a some kind of job that frequently subjects you to "death by Power Point". Yeah, I feel for you. Now for some reason, the office projector is (more often than not) out on the road or in the repair shop. Good news, right? So instead of getting a little extra nap time in the "bored" room, the boss decides he wants you to go through all the backlogged crap from 1970 to 2008 and make a detailed report that he will likely glance at for 15 seconds and then ask you why your other work is getting behind.

You'd have been better off listening to Captain Sominex deliver his presentation, but noooo... John from sales needed the projector for a conference 3 states over. Wouldn't it have been great if you could whip a projector out of your pocket so you could kick back and eat a donut while pretending to care what some windbag is mowing over? What about a POCKET PROJECTOR?!

Sounds great, but then the thing arrives and you realize you're about to unleash a new level of pain on top of something that everybody already hates.

The Aaxa P2 is currently the Cadillac of the picos. Seriously... You're not going to find a better one. Even the pocket laser projector is going to be hard pressed trying to match this puppy.

The P2 has a 33 lumen output. On the surface that really sucks, but other Picos are sadly maxed out at around 11 or 12 lumens. Still, a typical projector is going to have 1000 lumens on the low end. 33 lumens looks like a faint stain on the screen by comparison.

The P2 has a native resolution of 800x600. Still not great, but other picos are still using 640x480. On the bright side (bright?), it "simulates" higher resolutions, but the picture gets fuzzier the higher you go.

The P2 comes with a mini tripod for positioning. Sadly it's about as stable as David Hasselhoff at an open bar.

Battery life? About 45 minutes. You can plug it in, but it won't recharge the battery while the projector is in use.

Noise? Yes. The cooling fan makes more noise than you'd expect.

Built in speaker? A sad joke. The fan is louder than the speaker, so make other sound arrangements.

Image quality in a dark room? Fairly decent. Great for an impromptu movie night or gaming.

Ease of use? Getting it to turn on is a little janky. First turn on the power switch, then hold the button to turn on the lamp. Say a prayer, be sure the computer is sending output through the provided VGA cord, and check your connection if the blue screen persists.

Focus? Rather touchy. It's not easy getting it right on that sweet spot, and don't ever expect perfect focus using a resolution higher than 800x600.

The bottom line is this: The person in charge desperately wants to show their latest Power Point. Your new Aaxa P2 is going to be the only available device for the task. It's dreadfully underpowered for the job, a little clumsy to get set up, but it will save the day and afford you a nice little coffee break while the big guy draws circles on the wall with his daughter's cat exerciser in a vain effort to highlight the most relevant aspects of his washed out presentation.

It's a trolls gold.

Received this case about three weeks ago now. This case is very firm and protects the tablet very well. The only reason to add a screen protector to the tablet would be to prevent scratching while in use. If you are careful with the screen then a protector may not be necessary as when the case is closed it protects very well. You may use the part holding the tablet without the outer cover if you wish, in addition to the portrait and landscape positions. There are three upright positions.

The opening for the rear camera lens is cut large enough to not cause any problems. The front one is smaller and could be a problem. I don't use the front camera so can't say for sure.

The only negative comment is the fit of the case by the "on/off" switch and the volume switch. Because these controls are on the back slope of the tablet and the case comes up further than the height of the tablet, it is hard for big fingers to hit these switches.

In doing this review, I have to say, I must have spent several weeks looking for the perfect case to hold my new Asus Prime TF700. Many were all the same, as in looks, and color(black), which is not too exciting, for a women to carry her pad around in. I spent the last couple of years with a black case for my Barnes and Noble Nook, and was ready for a change. I ordered an advance order, and it actually came a few days early. The quality is flawless, and there are cut out areas for all the ports, (charging, headphones, etc.)The only small suggestion I could add, is that when charging, you need to leave the case folded open, as the charging cord goes in at a awkward side of the tablet. Not too big of an issue. I especially love how the actual sleeve it is housed in, can be removed(velcro), and put in different viewing angles, according to how you like the screen, either vertical or horizontal.The rooCASE, all in all, has exceeded my expectations, and I am MORE than happy with the looks and functionality of the product. I bought this case based on the flexibility of the different positions your tablet can sit in, and for the price I am happy with it and would recommend it. The black leather looks and feels nice and does protect my tablet pretty well. My biggest issue with this case is when you have the tablet in the case with the cover open or closed, there is no access for the charging cable! Being this case has two parts, one that holds the tablet and the second is the Velcro attached foldable cover, with the foldable cover not attached or flipped open you can plug it in. The other option is to spin the tablet around, essentially placing the tablet in the foldable cover backwards, this allows access for that port however blocks the back camera. So if you don't plan on using the back facing camera this is actually a non issue, if you do though its something to consider. My other small issue is that sometime when you are using the case to prop up the tablet, the bottom of the tablet where it touches the foldable cover sometimes slips and the tablet falls flat. Again not a big deal and if you take your time and make sure the tablet is lined up with the ridge perfectly it shouldn't go anywhere. Aside from the two for mentioned issues the case works exactly as its advertised. Its also sleeker than many of the cases I found in the big box stores and seems to fit better as well. The cutouts for the camera lenses (Both front and back) also were positioned well just for this product. I like the product and have no buyers remorse again mostly because the other ones I found didn't have features I wanted or felt cheap.

I was a little leery of this because of the price tag, and the look and feel of the product continued my fears, but having used it for about a month, I can say that this is a good buy. the simplistic hinge hasn't failed as I feared, and in fact works quite well. the 'carbon fiber' styling has a little give and actually feels good in the hand, better than the Kindle Fire by itself. The stand grooves are okay, not really angled for how I usually like to leave it for reading, but the inner lining has enough grab to keep it where you put it, so it works for me. last but not least, the hard backing in the case has protected my kindle through a few falls already (I am a little hard on my toys, mostly due to liking to read in bed). All in all, this does a good job, an the price beats the pants off of most of the other ones out there from other companies. Good Job!

I love the build quality of this stylus! Although I don't use the laser pointer function, it's nice that

the feature is there. The LED light is helpful when I need a light source.

As for the stylus itself, I do sketches with SketchBook Pro and it works great!

Overall impressions, LED flashlight, laser pointer, capacitive stylus.

1) When putting all the batteries in there, they rattle around. The pen is solid but there are rattling sounds coming from the pen like something is broken inside. I've ordered two of these pens (black and silver) and they both do the same when fully loaded with watch batteries. That's a shame, it sounds cheap and crappy. For a not-cheap pen, this is cheap.

2) LED Flashlight. It's a single LED and it lights up things well in the dark. It works. You have to hold the button; it's not a "toggle". You can't realistically use it for reading, definitely not for typing, but as a small flashlight, it works!

3) Laser pointer. Probably the strongest feature of this pen. The laser pointer works INCREDIBLY. I played with it a while. Pointed at things across the room. The kids thought it was a hoot. Then at dusk, with semi-daylight, I used the laser pointer to point at a wild rabbit that was chewing on clovers in the back yard 30 yards from the house, in the grass, THROUGH A DIRTY WINDOW. The laser was perfectly precise even at that distance. The kids thought it was a hoot. That's pretty good quality.

4) Capacitive stylus. This is not for detracting this particular model, but rather, the overall technology. The nub of the pen is the same as EVERY OTHER STYLUS. I bought a variety of them to find a good one for hand-writing notes on the tablet. Unfortunately, the tip of the pen is a round, soft thing about 3X as blunt as the tip of a sharpie. It's like writing with a big worn-out Crayola marker. I bought these to write notes on my tablets. These are OK for navigating and big, coarse sketches but they are absolutely useless as writing instruments. Don't even bother trying. It works with my Galaxy Tab 10, Acer A500, Googlesung Nexus 7, Galaxy Note 5.0, and other capacitive devices. It's functional. But it's not sensitive. NONE OF THEM ARE. Cheap, expensive or otherwise, DO NOT EXPECT TO HAND-WRITE CURSIVE NOTES ON YOUR TABLET. It simply doesn't work. I remember the good old days of the Palm Pilot with a resistive screen and a hard, sharp stylus that attempted to read your handwriting. It actually worked decently. With capacitive screens, you simply can't accomplish this.

I'll pay $100 for the stylus that lets me scrawl accurate handwriting and drawings on a capacitive screen. Right now, as far as I can tell, there is simply no option. The tip of this pen, as with EVERY capacitive pen, cheap and expensive, is like writing with a small bean bag.

This is a well made holster case which fits the Motorola Defy perfectly providing access to the earphone port when phone is secure in the closed case. My only complaint is that the belt clip could grip the belt a little more tightly although I've not had any problems with it coming off as yet.

This phone tripod is almost useless when used with the HTC EVO 3D. I purchased this hoping it would hold the device in "portrait" mode ready for me to tap open any programs (when I'm in front of a PC mostly).

Flaw 1: The clamp presses onto the "volume down" button and drives the volume down to mute. So if you expect to hear anything out of your device, this is a deal breaker. If you think that maybe you can get by with this by using a protective case to put something between the buttons and the clamp (such as a TPU), I'm sorry to break the news, but you'll find that the clamp is too small to even grip. It's barely wide enough to hold the phone without a case.

Flaw 2: "portrait" mode is awkward in two ways, due to the way the unit adjusts, when it's in portrait mode, it becomes pretty easily tipped and the bracket sets the phone off at a weird angle relative to the "legs".

Bottom line is the phone is simply too large for this device.

Because the vendor has a completely wrong listing, I hope they give me a full refund, including shipping this thing back. I'll report back! :)

UPDATE: The vendor, DBROTH, has sent me postage to return the item. Their customer service is excellent!

Just got the item in, very fast delivery. Any way, i love it, it holds the phone perfectly. However, I do have one little tiny compliant though, The little rubber knobes on the end of each leg fall off ver, very easy. So when you get this item, do yourself a favor and put a little super glue on the Knobes and you'll be very happy. Other then that this is an awesome product, it hold the phone great and it is well made too, plus you can adjust it for many different veiwing angles, it also leaves enough space to keep power plugged in and headsets too.

I'm in IT and have bought 6 of these so far. 2 for me and 4 for the company.

For the business, the iSCSI targets are great for backups and virtualization.

For home the SMB and FTP functionality is very useful. I put my movies on it and the built-in media server will stream right to my PS3! It will do your torrent downloads for you but I haven't taken advantage of that yet.

I replaced a home built file server with one of three units and so far I've not regretted it. It even recognizes my UPS through the USB port so it can do a graceful shut down during power failure.

The only reason I don't give it 5 starts is the performance isn't fantastic at times, and the web interface could use improvement. I don't like how much effort is involved with turning off unnecessary features and clearing unnecessary shares that it comes with.

A few days ago, I was attracted to the dark side of my basement by a weird sound. Walking in, I noticed my old ix2 had a red light on it. I had been having issues with the management software, but I knew it was a failed drive on a unit out of warranty, so replacing the drive would be almost 200 bucks. My old unit took two RMAs to get a working unit, so I was nervous about buying a new Iomega, especially since parent company EMC is selling the unit to Lenovo. On the other hand, the price is amazing for a unit that also will support scsi-3 pr.

The new unit was up and running in no time. The old management interfaces are gone, now managed through an integrated web server. There are many great features like a media server that will consolidate other ones on your network. In addition, there is integration for Mozy, Amazon AWS, and EMC Atmos. All in all, it's a solid little box, and after the issues getting the old one to initially work it's been rock solid for 5 years.

Migrating data was easy, I used Microsoft Synctoy on my windows workstation. Unlike the old ix2, this new one is 100% timecapsule compatible, so I easily set up my wife's laptop to backup to the new ix2.

I have not really used the cloud stuff, but I could not get the iphone App to detect the device. This appears to be a common complaint.

Really, I only use it to backup my media and allow my wife access to it. For this, the device is 100% fine. They have appeared to have fixed quality control issues in earlier units, and it's easier to manage and use than previous models. With my experience so far, I will even start to recommend them again.

After much frobbing, the NAS portion of this seems to be working okay. This is not a plug and play device.

Mac / Time Machine: unless you work hard to set things up manually, time machine will by default use all

available space on a volume before it starts deleting old backups. There is no way to partition the nas to

restrict a share to a set amount of space. I had to manually create a mac sparsebundle of a max size in

order to keep time machine backups to a reasonable amount of space.

twonky media server: this is utter garbage. It barely works on the internal nas. It does not work

at all from the internet: external IP's are remapped to internal lan IP's (which of course are not

visible externally)

plugging in a printer to the usb port: my macs can see the printer, but get nothing but an assortment

of errors trying to print to it. After many hours of debugging, gave up on this one.

personal cloud: you can get to documents, but that's it. I've never been able to get to mp3 or mp4

files. m4a files appear to be completely unsupported.

mounting as an afp fs on my macs works ok

mounting as NFS on my mac does not work. Spent quite a while trying to bug this (so far,

iomega support has been completely unresponsivethey have answered none of my queries.

In short, is provides network storage, and nothing else. The other features advertised do not

work.

I wold not recommend this box to anyone who is not comfortable hacking on a linux box

to fix whatever goes wrong... That said, it is much cheaper than competing 2-bay NAS

solutions offered by netgear and friends. If you need a plug-and-play solution, you need

to pay more and get something that has actually been debugged, and is supported by the

vendor.

My primary need is for NAS storage: I will keep it, as it is the cheapest solution I have found

for that. I give it two stars, because the advertised features simply do not work, and the

advertised support is non-existant. Two stars feels a bit generous, given that it doesn't do

what it claims to do.

We tested our Iomega IX2 for last couple weeks, this little storage server NAS is really great but there is a lot of potential for furtehr software updates specially teh Apps area that can be downlaoded and insatlled as a service on the NAS. As of today there are only few services that work with this protocolar unit, for example there is no MySQL version for IX2 but there is for some other models, you need to be careful when purchasing which model would best suite your needs. On a very positive note, Iomega IX2 is very fast and reliable, we purchased it for a purpose of placing home videos on a DLNA server and using it to access movies of our kids and family. Up until today those movies ware just sitting in the online storage and we didn't have a easy way to access them and watch them. In combination with most Smart TVs and/or Network Media Player that is connected to your TV all content on the Iomega becomes rather accessible. Overall this NAS is solidly built and its quite robust for such a small footprint. Its virtually silent and small so it can sit in a family room on the shelf without being noticeable. The fact that content is redundantly mirrored to both hardrives would put your mind to ease as your content is safer then depending only on one hardrive. However I still recommend that you backup perhaps on the Cloud as a secondary backup place specially if you will be storing irreplaceable family movies and photos.

For the price you get a Marvell 1.6GHz CPU which supports 2*3TB, yeah!

So I played with it and compared it with the DNS-325 that I also have. I was a bit disappointed of the StorCenter ix2-dl as I thought it would have been an upgrade from the DNS-325. It wasn't.

The specs are great but don't really show in reality, even with the latest firmware. After a week of playing with it and contacted support as my transfer speed wasn't really good and steady, I returned it for a full refund.

I put this case on and have yet to take it off. I love how it stands on its side, it makes it very easy to see from a distance (great for videos.) only complaint is that the edges where it bends are starting to peel but it's been a year of heavy use and it is unnoticeable.

Tried the Kodak 460 1st (not from Amazon). One was DOA and the other one had scan lines from the 1st scan and could not be fixed.

This one has worked from the start. Have scanned in over 200 pictures at my parent's house. Actually my 8 and 10 year old did most of the scanning.

When scan lines appear it takes about one minute to clean the sensor.

The only small issue is that there is no way for you to set the scan area. What I noticed was that it crops rectangles only which means if you are scanning the old instamatic prints that had rounded edges, the edges were cropped but it was like a 16th of an inch on each of the sides.

This is a good product to scan lots of photos cheaply. Much faster than a flatbed. This plus a netbook makes a fantasitic portable scan setup that fits in a backpack.

All scanners of this type will have to be cleaned frequently because the photos are going to have dust and other stuff that will get stuck on the scan head.

A few tips:

Scan directly to your computer and look at each picture right after it is scanned because after 75-100 photos you will have to clean the sensor because of scan lines. Better to know right away than later and having to redo a bunch of scans.

To scan irregular shapped photos or fix cropping issues(sometimes cause by dark backgrounds,etc) place a white piece of paper in the plastic sheath and put the picture on top of the piece of paper. You will get a large size scan but can crop later.

This is not a review of just the product it is about the marketing ploy in the tag line. It is NOT a negative and slide scanner. JUST A PICTURE SCANNER! However the unit is great I have over 30000 pictures from old 35mm, 126 and 110 file camera. And every one scanned perfectly. All my photos are now on Blu-Ray disc's and safe from degradation and deterioration of the paper and fading of time.

Hello TWIMC,

This product does not scan negatives, nor slides. I checked with the manufacturer,

and it only scans 5x7 printed images or smaller.

It does not even mention negative or slide scanning in the description.

The items that Pandigital manufactures for Kodak that end in a 1, like the P461, or the P811,

scan negatives, but products that end in 0 do not, such as, the P460 or P570.

I tried to get Amazon to change the title, but they wrote back and changed it like this:

Opened it up for the first time last night. It was NOT as easy as you'd think to set up, and it took forever for me to quit getting the blinking red light indicating it was not ready (error indicated a memory card malfunction, but there was none worked fine in my PC). Anyway, it scanned 40 photos last night, mostly well. You really have to "baby" the process as the photos/sleeve frequently get stuck 3/4 of the way through. You kind of have to pull them on the other side.

Today, I turned the scanner on to scan more photos, and 4 white lines appeared across each scan they almost look like they're left by rollers or something. Always in the same place on every photo, regardless of what sleeve I use or which photo. Read the manual, and the only suggestions are to clean and calibrate. I cleaned and calibrated multiple times, with no resolution to the problem. Since the lines run horizontally across the top 1/3 of each photo, it pretty much renders this product useless. Oh wait... I just tried scanning a couple more, and now there are lines in the exact same place on the bottom 1/3 of the photo scans. Have emailed customer support, so we'll see. After reading reviews on other Kodak personal scanners, it appears that the "white line" issue is a common theme.

Update: I contacted customer support via their website (as suggested in the user manual) on the date of this review (Nov 29) and received an auto email indicating I would receive a personalized response within three days. I almost gave up waiting for ANY response, but today (December 16) I finally got an email back saying "sorry, you'll have to call us." Two and a half weeks for that response? I have very little faith in this company.

This is a great little PHOTO scanner. I was up and running in under 5 minutes. The photos are scanned directly to the supplied memory card or, if you install the Kodak software, it scans directly to your PC/laptop through the supplied USB cable.

Scan speed is pretty fast and resolution is set at 600 dpi out of the box, although this can be changed to 300 dpi if you want to.

The box also contains cleaning tools for removing dust and dirt from the scanning surface and two flimsy plastic sheathes which the photo should be place inside in order to scan cleanly. The software in the scanner seems to take care of any alignment issues and crops the image to the same size as the original.

I am very pleased with this, especially as I got it on a deal for under 40 bucks.

Remember this is NOT a negative or slide scanner, but a cheap photo scanner, which is easily sufficient to save those old photos snapshots from years gone by, before their colors fade. If you want a high speed, professional scanner then obviously this does not serve you but given the cost it is a fantastic way to save those old photos, or simply digitize them for sharing with family members.

The DS-600 scanner is a super light-weight scanner that barely takes up any room on your desk. I admit that when I opened up the box and saw this scanner, I didn't expect it to work all that well it seemed too small and too light to do a good job. However I was pleasantly surprised.

Although it's tempting to connect everything at once, there is a warning that you must install the driver and scanner software before connecting everything. The CD-ROM offers the install in several languages and it is very easy (and quick) to install everything needed.

I scanned several documents of various sizes a one page black and white document in a very small font, a take-out menu, a business card, some pages in bright colors with lots of contrast, and several photos. All documents scanned perfectly the small fonts of one document were clear and scanned to match exactly the existing document. For the color documents the one document with bright colors and high contrast and the photo (with faded colors) were identical to the original documents. Note that you can't modify the documents (for example, some scanners provide options to tweak photos that's not available here.)

You can save documents in PDF, JPG and TIFF format. File names and locations are easy to change. You can save documents in these sizes: letter, legal, A4, B5, A5, A6 and Business Card. There are options and settings that you can customize, but you don't need to it works perfectly straight out of the box.

Documentation (besides the piece of paper that warns you to install the product before plugging in the scanner) consists of a ~50 page User Guide in PDF format that's on the CD-ROM. I'd say "User Guide" is a misnomer as while it does a good job describing how to install (for Windows and Mac systems) the scanner driver, Dsmobile scanner, and PageManager, it barely describes how to "use" the scanner (besides connecting it, calibrating, and clicking the desktop icon). The DSmobile scanner comes with two 4x6 sleeves which besides telling that you should clean them, are never described (I'm assuming you should use them to scan photos as that's how I used them). The scanner's options and ability to customize also aren't documented. Luckily the product is easy to use.

The CD-ROM also lets you install PageManager vsn 7.x which you can use to view, organize, edit, and send your digital files. I didn't play too much with PageManager, but it appears easy to use.

With a carrying case included, this is one scanner that you can easily take with you. If you want a scanner that doesn't take up a lot of room and does exactly what it should, check out the DS-600.

I have bought three of these for my business, to scan documents from the road and send them in to clients. I only use black and white at 300dpi, which creates a very small file but a very clear image for documents. This scanner does the job well, and none of my three scanners has broken down yet, after 6 months of light use. There are several drawbacks:

1) Almost every page gets scanned in a little crooked. I'm thinking that there is a knack to getting it to go through perfectly straight but I haven't figured it out yet, one of my employees does pretty well though. Anyway, it is good enough, but still annoying

2) The whole process is tedious with multiple pages, hand-feeding one at a time, going through the program to tell it to scan each page. I shouldn't complain because this is a portable scanner, but one day maybe someone can make a portable scanner that can handle multiple pages by itself.

3) Occasionally it has trouble identifying that a piece of paper has been put into the scanner. The easiest solution for me has been to unplug the USB connection, plug it in again and try again.

4) You can only scan individual sheets, you can't scan out of books, newspapers, etc., like the HP Capshare 920. (The Capshare is unique in that it was made in the 1990's and is still better than anything on the market today. Unfortunately they stopped making it, you have to find it on Ebay.)

Everything else is great, it gets its power from the USB connection and does its job.

Update 2/24/2011: It has now been a year, and all three scanners are still running strong, no problems. Problem #3 that I mentioned above has ceased to be a problem, I think I was somehow putting the paper in wrong. You have to slide the paper in far enough to trip a tiny switch, and then allow the scanner to automatically pull the paper in about an inch before you start the scan.

I've used this scanner to scan documents for work, as well as pictures and drawings. I thought it worked fine for scanning documents into Adobe Pro. I didn't have any problems running OCR after scanning my paperwork. For images and drawings, I am unimpressed.

Even at 600 dpi the scans were unclear, with lost information. One drawing I scanned just looked like chicken scratch because the scanner couldn't read the finer lines. It also doesn't have anything to guide your document through the scanner. I would have been easy to include a small guide bar that swings out from the document feeder area. Without the guide it is difficult to feed documents through straight.

Another issue I had with it is that it doesn't know when it is not scanning something. For instance, if a document isn't far enough in to be caught by the feeder, the scanner will still scan even though there is nothing feeding through. If you are in a hurry, this is a huge waste of time.

Overall, I think this is an average mobile scanner. It is fine for documents, if you have nothing else available, but I wouldn't want to use it on a regular basis.

There is a small downside, with this scanner, and no doubt it's obvious. With the large desktop scanners, if you want to scan something out of a book, a magazine, or artwork from a sketchbook, etc, you can lay it flat on your scanner, and it can scan the art or book pages without problem. The DSMobile Scanner however, can only scan SINGLE PIECES of paper. For most of the use a portable scanner like this might encounter, that wont be a problem. These portable scanners were made for scanning almost anything.....exam papers, medical or legal documents that may not leave an office, photos at a friends house who doesnt have digital technology, and pages at a reference library. For the same reason a laptop works well as the portable version of a desktop computer, this scanning stick works as a portible version of the large, heavy desktop printer scanners. The software for scanning was designed for ease of use, by anyone at all conversant with computers. Before you scan, the software asks you the size of the paper, if you want to scan in color, B&W, or greytones, and that's everything. The other software allows you to keep your documents organized, for example, medical documents in one folder, artwork in another folder, or your credit card bills in another folder. Overall, I find that it scans a little faster than my desktop printer/scanner. Almost anyone with a laptop, will get a lot of use out of this device.

I bought this SSD for an 7 or 8 year old 'project notebook' that someone gave me a little over a year ago. I call it a 'project notebook' because it's not something that I need day to day, but it's something that I get to run Linux on that I add various improvements and tweaks over time to see what it can do. Before installing this SSD, I was running Ubuntu 9.04 on a 7200 rpm traditional hard drive with 512 MB of RAM. After installing the SSD, I decided to go with the 9.04 version of Xubuntu, and witnessed a big improvement in load times, but nothing overly dramatic. I think the PIII processor and slower bus hold the system back slightly, but I would definitely describe the system as having more "snap". AbiWord and The Gimp both open in a second or two, OpenOffice's word processor definitely opens far faster than the OS X version that I run on my Mac's (but it has always been slow to load on OS X). The only 'apples to apples' comparison that I have is that Xubuntu runs at the same or slighter faster performance than the same type of configuration running in a virtual machine on either my MacBook or XP-based Dell notebook so as far as I am concerned it has brought my 'project notebook' up to par with modern system for *basic* computing (web, email, word processing). I have not noticed any battery improvements to date, but the machine is whisper quiet at least until the fan kicks on (which is not as often).

One last note, my 'project system' is a Dell Latitude C510 which I only bring up to explain that the mounting holes on this drive are on the reverse side of traditional HDD's that I have had in this system. This is only significant if you are mounting this in a notebook that has you secure the drive to a caddy-type door as Dell and Compaq does basically the drive mounts upside down in this configuration and in my case would not make contact with the connector inside the system. I had to forgo mounting the drive to the door and just pushed the drive into the system until I could feed it make contact with the connector inside (hopefully I never need to take it out!).

Basically, if you can overlook the price and don't have needs for large amounts of space on your system, I would say that this drive was a good investment for an older system. Most older notebooks typically have 20-30 GB PATA drives in them that run at 4200 rpm, and you are likely to see a large jump in performance with this in your system if making that upgrade.

This is a great boot drive for an older Mac (pre-sata) like a mac mini or ibook, though I'm using it as the boot drive for my first generation macbook where it is installed in the optical bay (pata-pata caddy) as I write this review (tip: you must disable smart sleep for this configuration to work).

I bought it new and the quality is great.

Speed is OK compared to the current generation of SSDs, though it is a vast improvement over a hard disk drive and I am thoroughly pleased with how snappy my laptop has become. I have had no problems after several weeks of use. With a minor bit of application and feature trimming during OSX installation, 16GB ends up being just right for a general purpose laptop that is used mostly for email and websurfing, and at this size SLC is a must for Mac OSX since it doesn't support TRIM.

Though I have seen mixed messages regarding the need for TRIM when running OSX, the fact that this is SLC and not MLC should give great peace of mind. I have seen many, many reports of MLC SSDs run without TRIM where performance goes from blistering fast to molassas over a period of months.

This is the correct memory for the Apple MacBook Pro 2011 Latest model. I called Corsair and they gave me this exact model #.

Before I installed the memory, my MacBook Pro showed I had 4GB 1333 MHZ DDR3.

After the installation of the memory, my MacBook Pro showed I had 8GB 1333 MHZ DDR3.

Installation took 5 minutes.

Place a towel on a table, turn your computer over and place it on the towel.

Remove all screws that hold the back cover in place. The upper 3 screws are longer than the others.

Make sure you do not loose any screws as they are very small. I made sure that I used the same screw in the same hole it came out of. The cover should then come right off.

You will see the memory. It is held in by a plastic clipping device. Gently spread the plastic clip and slowly pull out the upper memory module. Do this also for the lower module.

When you pull out the module make sure you place it on the table so you know the exact way the new module will go into the computer.

Start with the lower module and gently place it in the memory slot. Do this very slowly and it should fit in perfectly. Place the upper memory module in next.

Place the back cover on the computer and use the screws to hold the cover in place. Do not tighten the screws firmly until all the screws are in. They should all go in smoothly.

Tighten all screws, but don't tighten them to much.

Just installed the Corsair 8 GB (2X4 GB) Memory and was instantly recognized by my week old iMac.

This is our first iMac after several years of PC usage.

Forget about the low star rating, the complaint was not about the product quality and handling, but a mistake on product description.

I bought this for a macbook pro mid 2010 13" core 2 duo. It didn't work at all. I contacted corsair tech support who only seems to have a web form. They told me to try dimms separately, which I replied that I had done and 24 hours later I have heard nothing more from them. The guy at the apple store said this:

Even though ddr3 is supposed to be backwards compatible, this is NOT TRUE FOR APPLE. If your machine came with 1066MHz memory, you have to get 1066 memory, and you can't buy 1333 memory instead.

Anyway, I couldn't find the answer to that question on the internet prior to buying, maybe this review will help someone.

The packaging says compatible with macbook pro, but it's only compatible with certain ones. And corsair's website sucks for telling you which one and explaining backwards compatibility.

I chose Corsair memory because they are a reliable brand and make great computer products. I also happen to use Corsair Vengeance memory in my desktop PC that has always been good to me. So, I decided to go with Corsair once again.

I originally bought the 8gb memory upgrade from here at Amazon, installed, and everything was working great for about a day or two. I put my macbook pro (2011) dec edition to sleep, came back and bam! Kernel panic error and was forced to reboot, only to get the same error message again and be forced to reboot. I couldn't even run a memory test but obviously faulty ram was the cause of my issues. I removed the Corsair memory and noticed there was an imperfection on one of the RAM contacts that I believe was causing my problems. Luckily, I held onto the stock samsung memory and returned the defective memory to Amazon.

Amazon immediately processed my return and I ordered the same 8gb upgrade from Corsair here at Amazon again. I installed, ran memtest86 and let it run for almost 25 hours that included 14 full passes and ZERO ERRORS. So once again Corsair does it again, another great quality product.....at least the second time around! Thanks Amazon and thanks Corsair! You both rule!

Also, the 8gb upgrade makes a noticeable difference when running multiple applications. My macbook pro is much snappier and able to multitask much faster with many programs open at once. Buy Corsair, upgrade the memory yourself (instructions are included in the macbook manual) and don't get ripped off by paying the $200 for Apple to upgrade your RAM!
