I bought this USB hub for the sole purpose of providing supplemental power to an external hard drive. The hard drive is a Western Digital passport that has 3.0/2.0 capabilities so this hub was ideal. The PS3, like many laptops, does not have the power to support some of the larger external drives that exist. It is self powered (AC plug included) and it can also support 3.0/2.0. The only downside to this unit, and it is not enough to reduce my rating, is that the USB hub is not powered all of the time. The hub is only active when the primary USB output is activated. Having power full time would be nice for charging controllers, iPods, etc. Overall a great product that works great.

Hub works great. Computer recognizes everything connected to it. Wish it had more than 4 ports. Sometimes does not "wake up", or takes what I consider a too long a period of time to wake up, after a sleep or hibernate event on the laptop. Also, sometimes stays powered on after shutdown. I checked a lot of sources prior to my purchase of the 4PT since it was extremely important when I'm on the road to connect more the one USB 3.0 device that my laptop provides. The 4PT is more then up to the task with plug and use and a build quality to take the abuse of travel. Would definitely buy again.

I was looking for a piece of hardware to tie all my USB 3 devices to my PC and I found it! I wish PC manufacturers would just re-route a wire our two and give us more USB 3 ports but I would guess the Sales dept. tells them different, so we do what we can (the difference between USB 2 and 3 is substantial). I have tied my 2 external USB 3 drives to my PC and the powered hub has also provided 2 extra ports to re-charge my wireless mouse and keyboard as well. Just add a HDMI cable to my system and I have a fully functional media center, 3D modeling tool, and full internet access through my laptop. All in all, an excellent solution.

I am using this USB 3.0 hub to extend the length of cable between my computer in the house and a Point Grey Research Flea 3 camera attached to my telescope outside on the back deck. I can also plug other USB 3 devices into it as I add them in the future.
