Many people like me are power users of their smart phones and tablets. I use several tablets every day and they have to be recharged every night and sometimes even during the day. It is hard to find a powerful mobile battery pack to recharge a high power tablet and this is about as big as you can find today on the market. This would be ideal for those long airline flights so you can watch your movies or listen to your music the entire trip, including while sitting in the airports.

Performance while charging various devices with the Kinivo EB12X!

Kinivo EB12X 12000 mAh test data battery fully charged and an iPad 3 at 53% charged overnight to 100%

* I then took the same battery pack and an iPhone 4 at 72% and it charged the iPhone to 100% in 64 minutes.

* I then took the same partially discharged Kinivo EB12X battery pack and plugged it into my iPad 2 while it was at 62% charge. In 90 minutes the iPad 2 was at 88% and it stopped charging as the battery pack was dead.

* This is a good performance. These three charges out of the same battery pack consumed over 7,638 mAh of energy.

Limitations of device charging, here are the power requirements of some common electronic devices:

As you can see the Kinivo EB12X will not fully charge a totally dead iPad 3 or 4 because it only contains 12000 mAh of capacity. It will add substantially to your usage time and my suggestion is to turn off the iPad while charging or start charging very early and use the Kinivo EB12X battery first while saving as much of your iPad battery as possible. You have to consider the losses in the charging circuits of both the battery pack and the device you are charging.

It functions as an adequate battery pack but its effectiveness and duration could be compromised if the small direction sheet is lost. You need to remember what the pack's two plugs are for, maximum time to leave it without recharging, and what the four LED lights indicate. A small plate on the bottom giving this information would have been helpful. HINT: For those who will not be using it frequently it would be a good idea to stick a piece of tape on it reminding you when the next recharge is due even if it has not been used during that time period.
