Palm Z22 Essentials Pak

Palm Z22 Essentials Pak
  • The Palm Z22 organizer is so easy to use you can get started in a few simple steps. Pick it up. It's small and light. Turn it on. There's a bright color screen. Check it out. Appointments, phone numbers, to-do lists, and photos.
  • Combining an attractive design and a full color, the blue skin case is the ideal solution to secure your organizer
  • Three styli are perfect for keeping extras in your home or office
  • Four screen protectors ensure your screen is protected from scratches

My decision to get the Z22 came about because my last PDA's flip lid was breaking up, the battery was showing signs of age, and I wanted an updated version of Palm Calendar that'll let me input appointments that span across midnight. I've used several Palms and I know I don't need anything fancy so I went with the Z22. The Essentials pack was on sale when I decided I wanted it so that's what I got. Things I like are that it's small and lightweight and is the lowest priced color PDA as of this review.

There's plenty of reviews for the standard package Z22 so I'll try to go over aspects that's not as mentioned much. Due to Z22 being a low-res OS5, it's got fewer compatible games than the rest of its contemporaries due to that a lot of low-res games don't work well with OS5 and most OS5 games are built for high-res only. Even then there's still plenty of decent games available to play for the Z22 but you may have to comb more carefully for compatible ones. Handwriting recognition doesn't respond as quick as for my previous PDA. I believe this may be a fault of the Graffiti 2 system as my last PDA used the original Graffiti. You can set your own wallpaper for the Applications view and the Agenda view in Calendar which is a nice little extra. Holding down the middle button of the 5way pad brings up the alerts screen which was different from some of the previous models which brings up the Applications view when you did the same thing. They should make it so you can select what you want it to do like the way you can select what happens when you drag up from the graffiti area. It seems most of the recent Palms including this one includes Addit, a software that helps you shop and download additional Palm software as well as download the latest news to the PDA. The Z22 uses a standard mini-USB to USB cable to sync to the PC which is good since you can find those at any decent PC shop if you should lose yours.

One major bug I would like to note is that the Calendar's Agenda view will not show appointments that span past midnight. If the event starts or ends directly at midnight, it will show with no problems but if it goes even five minutes over (say 10:30pm to 12:05am), it won't show on the Agenda view. It isn't a problem for me as far as time scheduling goes but it is an inconvenience since it means I can't rely on the Agenda view to see all of my upcoming events.

Other than the above problem, I'm fairly happy with my Z22. It's small, highly pocketable, and has more than enough things on it to keep me occupied when I have nothing else to do. Highly recommended for those trying out PDAs or those only needing the basic PIM functions.

A few suggestions: use the included screen protectors and get an Air Case if you plan to stick it in a pocket. The Flexi-cases for me were useless but YMMV.

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Palm Z22.

I had an old Sharp YO-370 that I had used to keep my various passwords and internet accounts organized. The Z22 does this and much more. It is the best bargain out there at this time to provide help with everyday organization tasks.

I have to say I am loving my Z22 Palm! I've had it for a little over a month by now. I have had no problems with it like other reviews had mentioned, and I use it every day for everything that requires organizing and keeping up to date.(calendar, grocery lists, appoinments, addresses, to do list, quick reminders, you name it.. it can do it...) I am just mad I did not buy something like this years earlier. It is so easy to use and so many programs you can add to it. I will never go back to a paper calendar organizer ever again. I do recommend the screen protectors because the screen will get scratch if left inside a purse unprotected. The only thing negative about it is that I am still looking for something that will cover the screen when not in use so that the screen is not out in the open all the time, but besides from that it has been a great product.I definately recommed to anyone who still uses an organizer book-calendar.

Nice unit, small and compact.

But....this thing does NOT seem to like Windows Vista.

Will not download the photo software from the CD. Palm Customer Service is less than helpful.

May have to return this junk and get something that actually works as advertised.

I love this device. I have another one, only it is three years old and is just now showing signs of entering retirement age! I have dropped it untold amounts of times and it goes everywhere with me. My life is organized completely with my little computer. So, now I have a new one because I am so addicted to it. Thought of getting an upgrade or something, but decided against it. Why replace a good thing? Besides, there are the games in it, my fav is "daisy", so I have nicknamed my device "daisy" as well.

This device is easy to use and understand also.
