I also decided to upgrade from DSL, as 1 MBPS was the fastest we could get in our neighborhood. I did my due diligence and decided upon the Zoom 5350, as it was on Comcast's approved devices list and had the requirements to meet our needs.

Installation was very simple. I did not have a self-install kit from Comcast, so I just followed the directions for connecting without a kit. I connected the coax cable to the modem, a supplied Ethernet cable from the modem to my computer and everything else went very smoothly. I did not have to call Comcast with the MAC address, as everything was recognized during the install. All, in all installation took approx. 10 minutes, very simple for anyone to accomplish.

Both my wireless laptops with b/g wireless cards (one on a second floor) found the network and connected without a problem after I entered the WAP2 key. I may purchase Wireless-N cards later, but I really don't see the need. Speedtest showed an average of 17 MPBS for a wireless connection and 25 MBPS for wired. I used the Ethernet ports to wire my Blu-Ray player, Wii (I purchased a Wii-Lan converter) and a spare cable if I need to connect a laptop to stream Hulu or Comcast TV online to view through my HDTV. Netflix streams in HD when available (on Blu-Ray, Wii is only SD) and looks and sound great.

We got rid of our cable TV, and purchased the LEAF attenna (see our review) from Mohu. So all our viewing on local channels (it found 35 of them) is free and in HD. If nothing is on that we want to view, we use Netflix, Hulu, or Comcast TV online. We are enjoying the savings, and now with the Zoom faster speeds, great picture quality as well.

Decided to upgrade from DSL to cable modem. Was going to buy a Motorola Surfboard, but read reviews mentioning reliability issues and compatibility issues with my ISP (Comcast). Started an in-depth shopping effort for a combined cable modem, router, and N-wireless router and came to a brand I hadn't heard of (ZOOM) that was on the Comcast-approved list. Reading the specifications the modem would seem to be massively over-engineered for home use and a two year warranty was exceptional among its competitors. DOCSIS 3.0 was a must-have for my purchase.

Installation was a snap. Customization for security was easy and I now have the fastest connection I've ever had and WPS security. Using basic, bargain-level Comcast DSL I get download speeds of 2.5Mbytes/sec and uploads around 500K. Wireless signal is very strong and without interference in a building with (literally) a hundred competing networks in range. I can't slow this thing down no matter how many Macs, PCs, iPods, and Droids I have streaming high-resolution video at the same time. Netflix movies are instantaneous. I have had no compatibility issues with any of my wifi-enabled devices. The modem supports 253 devices at a time, so would be ideal if I were to set up a boiler-room stock operation or technical-support call center in my den!

The device is aesthetically appealing and connecting directly by wire to any of the 4 ports (haven't tried the USB port yet) gives a bit more speed. Frankly, I cannot find anything that I have to wait to stream or download, so I haven't had cause to do so other than to test. The build, while plastic, feels very solid. There is no external power converter, so the plug doesn't monopolize my power-strip. I've never felt much about modems before, but this one actually gives me pleasure to own.

I think this is the perfect N-wireless cable modem for anyone who values speed. It would probably be great for gamers and people using videoconferencing. It will last, has a better warranty than competitors, is at the bleeding-edge of technology, and will support the coming Ipv6 protocol. I realized I was taking a chance when I bought from a maker I didn't know. I'm glad I did.

So I recently got a new computer that finally has Windows 7. My old Motorola Cable modem and wireless router would not communicate with it at all. While doing some research on this I found out that there is a new protocol for cable modems, DOCSIS 3.0, that with some providers will provide faster download speeds. My provider Charter is one of those. This Zoom router is DOCSIS 3.0, and also wireless N. My old wireless G router didn't have a good connection with the computer in my home office. This Zoom also has ports for 4 hardwired connections in back, my old Motorola just 1. After reading positives reviews I decided to give Zoom a chance. After about 15 minutes with a friendly Charter gent from India, my Zoom was set up and working good. As others have stated, if the performance is bad MAKE SURE TO UNCHECK flood IP detection in settings. Now my connections wired and wireless are MUCH faster than with the old modem. My computer in the home office now has a strong signal and blazing speed thanks to the wireless N. My Apple TV, PS3 and XBOX360 also play well with the Zoom. Physically it's slighter taller than my old router, the front has easy to read status lights on it. The hardwired ports in back also light up when in use. The Zoom does run hot, compared to my old router, so I recommend you leave some airflow space around it. As for security, it runs the latest wireless encryption standards. I'm very happy with the Zoom and recommend it.

Combining a cable modem and a router was a great idea. However, the product needs improving. You cannot turn off the SSID Broadcast even though the manual says you can. Tech support acknowledges that but is not going to do anything about it. The signal is intermittent, so connecting to a work VPN is not reliable. It disconnects the VPN constantly. Finally, the device completely reset itself to the factory settings. If you buy this product, be ready to unplug the power on a regular basis to get it to work again.

I daytrade so I need a reliable, fast modem and this is it. Had the router a few weeks and it is great. Good reception with a strong WiFi signal throughout a 2 story 2600 sqft. house. You may need to make a few tweaks for your internet provider and here they are.

1)Use this if you're having slow download/upload speeds or in my case over 65% packet loss on a ping test. You can check your DL & UL speeds here (speedtest[dot]net) and test for packet loss here (pingtest[dot]net). Login to the routers gateway using 192.168.0.1 and you can find your username and pass in your instruction manual. Once in click Firewall at the top, then Web Filter on the side panel. Toward the bottom of the page uncheck "IP Flood detection" and click apply.

2)Some people have reported a dropped WiFi signal after a few days of use. This is generally caused by interference from other wireless signals in the area. To fix this login to your gateway again. This time click on Wireless at the top then Radio on the side panel. Change your Control Channel # to any of the numbers 1-11 listed then click apply. If you're still getting a dropped signal after the change then switch to another channel until your signal is constant. By default the Control Channel is set to Auto which is supposed to automatically switch channels when the router detects interference but this doesn't always work so well.

These two items tend to be the biggest issues with this router. Once you get it setup right it should be clear sailing.
