APC USB cable ( AP9827 )

APC USB cable
  • RJ45

Exactly what I needed .

Installed PowerChute Personal Edition and it communicated perfectly with the UPS ( running Windows 7 32-bit ).

Only downside is the batteries that I thought were good did'nt provide enough backup power when I did a simulated power failure .

I still do'nt understand why APC does'nt offer the cable on the site .

Anyway their loss is AMAZONS' gain.

UPDATE MARCH 5TH , 2012 :simulated a power failure while running PowerChute Personal Edition and I only got 5 mins at full load .

This did'nt make ANY sense cause their are 4 batteries on this UPS ( 2 internal 2 external ) .

So I uninstalled PowerChute and just simulated a power failure using the windows system tray power icon as a guide to "time left " and I was able to use the system for a lot longer .

APC's software has failed me in the past so those of you using the software try my experiment and compare results , I suspect you will be surprised .

If only APC cables weren't so hard to figure out which one I needed, I'd be happier, but that isn't this seller's fault. This product worked just like I thought it would, and our network cluster is now happily talking to each other to check on the status of the UPSes in the room.

this cable lets a desktop or tower computer know that it has a UPS installed. then the WIN/XP power settings look exactly like a laptop and you set them in a similar manner. good length and good quality. in place for sometime now and working like a champ.

APC wanted, what, like $35 for this cable that I could not find mine...so bought this one and I plugged it in and it didn't work. Man was I ticked off but then I looked and some idiot (me) had plugged a Cat5 RJ45 cable into the comms jack on the UPS and a pin was bent. I straightened that with needlenose pliers and now my RAID Netgear Shared storage and desktop PC (using open source software communicating to the server, not the UPS) both shut down when power fails.
