ordered it and received it after i got my new cartridge and headshell. so, ended up using it to check my alignment after the fact. there are two points, A & B that you place your stylus on. small grids around those points makes for a busy visual against the mirrored backdrop. basically, i had to use my guide light and kneel down to the turntable to see where the stylus was in relation to the points. then, stand up to see how parallel my cartridge was against the grid lines.

easy to use, clear instructions, good concept and good results. my eyeball installation was close, this tool got me into perfect territory.

The mirror idea is really great. Makes it easy to find some sight-line where the angle of the cartridge is visable.

This protractor will work for those that prefer Baerwald alignment. The null points printed on the protractor are 2.6" and 4.76".

This concept product has been valuable in the market for many years. I purchased mine from Lyle Cartridges, now out of business. It has served in cartridge alignment all these years without fail.

The two specific points of tangency are different for my SME tonearm. Therefore, I use my tonearm's template for that point, instead of this product.

BUT ( a big but) I adjust azimuth visually with this ingenious template, with great help from the mirror surface. One merely looks from the front, to determine that the diamond and its own mirror image are in the same vertical alignment. Vertical azimuth is important for maintaining good stereo separation, and for better tracking of the treble notes.

It also serves admirably, instead of an LP record, for determining the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA), while resting the diamond tip on top of its surface, as if it were an LP on the platter. One does not want the tonearm pivot to be too high, nor too low. The usual starting adjustment is "tonearm parallel" to the LP surface, with specific departures from parallel, according to personal preferences.

Always a pleasure to use this nifty tool. It also serves to see the underside of the cartridge and its little connecting cables when it is inconvenient to dismount the entire assembly.
