The device itself is pretty slick. It's about the size of your average thumb drive (about an inch by a quarter inch by a half inch), and comes with a little loop that you can put on your average badge lanyard (so, presumably, you can keep it on the same thing you keep the CAC on). It doesn't seem especially _rugged_, and I do have concerns that it might get broken in the environments I use my laptop in, but at $30, I'm not real worried.
Ordinarily I would have used a PC-card based reader, but I use this on my Macbook Air, which only has USB. For this purpose, it's pretty useful. After fighting for countless hours trying to get my ActivCard reader to work with my new MacBook Pro 13", I found that I'd first have to update the reader's firmware on a Windows computer, or set up a Windows parallel. Instead, I hit the internet to find the best reader for my needs: Mac-compatible, portable, simple to use. I found that in the SCR 3500; its tiny so much more portable than the old ActivCard reader I had, and it is plug-n-play with Mac OS X 10.6.8. For anyone attempting to use a GEMALTO Common Access Card on the go, I would suggest this reader!

Worked perfectly right out of the box. Which is good-it didn't come with any CDs, literature, etc. But it turns out, it wasn't needed. I have a Macbook Pro 15", and I searched the internet for hours trying to find something that would just *work* like I needed it to. This reader does exactly that.
