I have a Nokia E71 Unlocked. The Earbud that came with my E71 had a 3 ring male extension so I assumed that I needed a 2.5mm to 3.5mm 3 ring male extension for the adaptor. I WAS WRONG! If you want to use any of the Great 3.5mm 2 ring male extension Headsets (Which 90% are) You need to get this AD-50. I had gone locally to test this out before I ordered this and I suggest that you do the same. I found many of the adaptors on the in market place to be of low quality costing on average in the $10 dollar range. They were noisy and had a lot of static poorly made. I purchased this unit. It arrived in perfect shape. I plugged into my cell phone and plugged the 2 ring extension 3.5mm headset into it and the sound was awsome! Both stereo channels played perfectly with great frequency response and no static. Apparently, there are 2 different setups being sent by Nokia. You have to determine which one it is before ordering. Do not assume because the earbuds that arrived with your Nokia E71 Unlocked unit are 3 ring male extension that the adapter you need for the 3.5mm headset with 2 ring male extension needs a 3 ring extention going into the phone IT DOES NOT! I thought I researched this adequately before purchasing, but it turns out that you need a OEM Nokia 2.5mm Jack to 3.5mm Handsfree adapter ( AD-61 ) instead.

I'm not sure what the Nokia AD-50 is really good for, since it seems to be limited to Nokia branded audio devices (for output).

I can now use other earbuds and headset on my E71 Straightalk phone. Good shipping service from vendor too. A little bulky, but at least it does what it is advertised to do. It adapts 3.5mm plugs to the Nokia 2.5mm recepticle on the E71 phone. Hope this helps someone mak a decision.
