This is a high quality reader. Read and write times using the Compct Flash drive are really fast. I had a cheaper unit and the CF read and write times were extremely slow, even though it was USB 2.0. If you want faster CF read and writes, this unit will do that. In addition, the reader unit pops out for mobility. That means you have an internal reader and an external reader in one unit.

The post, "Works, But It Is Cheap," is NONSENSE! The device is well made and it gives a lot of bang for the buck. It is worthy of 5 stars! I was hard pressed to find a Multi Reader with two(2) USB ports AND which fits into a 3.5-inch floppy bay such as this one. The installation instructions clearly indicate that the front-panel USB ports connect to the motherboard, NOT an external USB port. If you don't want the front panel USB ports, then don't bother with the motherboard connection. It's the removable (ejectable) Multi Panel that needs the external USB connection, which is a good thing for users who don't have a USB port inside their computers. If you do have a conventional USB port that is otherwise unused inside your computer such as may be on a plug-in card, then use it instead. The backside of the removable Multi Panel has a "female" USB port that allows the Multi Panel to plug into other computers through a standard USB cable, such as a laptop so that an additional reader is not needed for the laptop. Considering that the product is designed to be physically stressed (by inserting and unplugging cables and flash media) and then to install it with just one measly screw is just plain foolish. I was concerned about using just two mounting screws, one on each side, which was all I could use. Four mounting screws would be better but with just two, the product holds fast. This is a great product. This is a 5-star product!!!

The entire unit including the frame with the USB ports on it fits into a 3.5" floppy drive bay, which is the selling point for me. The advertised Product Dimensions: 2.2 x 7.2 x 5.5 inches is confusing on this point. I used this StarTech product to replace a defective BayOne AVI Plus (tm) device.
