So i've searched around for many repeaters and access points for my wi-Fi range extending problem and I came across those from Hawking, Linksys, among many others. I saw this one on an Engadget review and came to my favorite shopping location to purchase it (Amazon) I actually purcahsed the SR600EX repeater first and then purchased this one later after being recommended by the Amped support agent..... Received the unit very quickly and the first thing i noticed is that the box was heavier than i thought it was going to be (around 3 lbs or so). This was already a good sign since i was used to those cheap, lightweight plastic computer products. But this was not one of them. The Pro Access Point came with a 30 foot cable, a metal desktop stand (which I didn't need), another 3 foot patch cable, a power over ethernet adapter and power adapter. The unit itself is made with very good craftsmanship and also looks really slick. Now to the application..
I have a backhouse thats about 500-750 feet from my front house which i have a linksys router. The backhouse gets 0 signal. I purchased the SR600EX and set it up in my backhouse and placed the AP600Ex in the front house. Attached the power adapter to the wall and connected the PoE adapter to it (Amped includes very helpful tags so only a dummy would connect it wrong). Anyways i placed the repeater on the outside wall of the backhouse and then did a scan w/ my computer. There was my linksys network!! I now have full bars in the backbouuse and whats best is the PoE adapter also has an extra RJ-45 port where i've connected by wired bluray player with Netflix! I have my IPad which i can use freely throughout the 1000 sq ft backhouse as well as in my yard beyond the backhouse.
I called Amped's service department also to see how i could get my speed faster and the very friendly rep recommended pairing it up with the AP600EX (this unit which i installed in the front house and pointed it towards the backhouse). The agent told me that this setup was good for 2 miles+ and that its always good to have HIGH POWER UNITS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CONNECTION (he really stressed this point) but all i needed it for was 500 ft or so. Either way, i'm ecstatic, my wife is happy and the kids are also! I highly recommend Amped based on their product performance and customer service! Thanks Amped!

This products range is amazing when it works. After exchanging it 3 times it worked again for about a week. Tried everything, rebooting, updating firmware, resetting all settings on my network devices. Even purchased a new router. Only then did it work. Only for a week. I have tried talking to customer service multiple times, and their response is always the same. "You must have a defective product. We will send you a new one. It will arrive in two weeks." I'm so fed up with it. I bought an access point and two repeaters. Waste of my time and money. Seriously though Amped fix this for me! This is by far the worst product I have ever ordered from Amazon. I have no idea what made me ignore all the bad reviews it had. I think it was a combination of arrogance, "I know quite a bit about networking unlike those reviewers", the fact they have flashy website, "if they got that kind of money into a website they must build quality products", and price "oh man is it expensive it must work great".After installation it would regularly either lose connection to the router or it would drop all the wireless clients. I would then try to log into it's web panel to see if I could fix the problem and it would be inaccessible. That would require a reboot to factory settings, meaning I would have to reenter all the settings. Rinse and repeat for about a week till I got completely fed up and sent it back. We replaced it with this Wap/cb Long Range Outdoor Wireless Dual-polarization which is not only quite a bit cheaper but works great with a longer range even though it is omni-directional.
I beg of you stay away from this product.

I am very happy with the Amped AP600EX Access Point. I also bought the Amped USB adapter and the two product "talk" well to each other. I connected two buildings, 100ft away from each other. Positioning the devices properly was important (they need to face each other). I also put the AP600EX outside, on a pole, about 15 ft high. Now, I have between 90 and 150Mbps which is more than enough for my need. Setting up the AP600EX was easy; following instructions was wise, and the setting up manu from your Web Browser was easy. I can set up schedule and users: since the AP600EX is very powerful (up to 1.5 miles) many users can detect your signal: you want to be able to control who can use your internet connection.I had purchased a repeater for home from this company several years ago and remembered good phone tech service so I called, described my goal—extend a Fios connection from one building to another across the street, for newly rented space to avoid needing a second paid connection—and got a very clear tutorial and product recommendations. For the $250 it cost for this device—which "broadcasts" the signal—with the SR10000, which picks it up and amplifies it throughout the new office, will save some $800 or so a year we would have spent on a separate line.The obstacle was the new office being half below grade—a basement with thick stone walls, deep window sills up high, in a neighborhood with some 20 or 30 other wifi networks operating. Using an analytical app that this company offers free for Android, I was able to walk around with my phone and find the sweetest spot for the repeater in the new office, where the signal registered consistently above 90%. I logged on with a laptop and the speed was surprising, even a bit faster than I get with the Verizon wifi device that came with the service, possibly because this device is directional. This result was achieved with just setting this device in the window of the "broadcasting" location. (With no glass or metal window screen in between. Placing it behind the screen significantly reduced the signal.) When I get a chance, I'll attach it to the outside wall. The distance is only about 75-100 yards and I found some research suggesting that (in the web-based settings panel) reducing the output power would widen and concentrate the coverage range, something that made sense on a device that is supposed to be accessible from more than a mile away and thus, at 100% power, sends a signal pattern that is fairly narrow.
As a result, we can tear out all the old communications wiring and start with a clean, wireless office. This is low-intensity use, so I can't say what would happen if you had many devices on the network. Also, there are some tree branches in between that will be in leaf come spring and, as I understand it, the moisture in leaves tends to absorb some of the signal. For the moment, this is a winner for me.
My one suggestion to the company would be to include some literature explaining the best place and way to mount it outdoors (because it is directional), and some illustrations showing roughly what happens when you reduce the power or tilt the access point down, as I have done slightly since it is on a third floor and the repeater is underneath a three-story building. I did learn about all that, but it took me three hours of searching until I found some reliable research with graphs.
