For basic file transfers, you simply insert your card into the device, plug the device into your computer's USB port, then press the device's transfer button. But here's an ALTERNATE transfer method that offers more flexibility: Stick your memory card in the slot, plug the device into your USB port, click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows screen, and suddenly the icon appears for "your card" where you can now drag and drop files onto the card, to and from your hard drive.

I use the device for quickly transferring my mp3 files onto my SD card: I then insert the card in my Palm Tungsten E2 PDA for playing my music on the go.

The unit itself works great. Much faster transfers than using the usb cable directly to my camera. However, the software includes a "monitoring" feature, which checks every second or so, to see if you've plugged in a card. I opened up Windows Task Manager to discover that, each time it checked, it was consuming 25% of system resources (on/off each second). No wonder my computer has been slower lately, especially if I have my image editing software open (duh).

My recommendation would be to skip the San Disk software and access the card reader directly from My Computer, as mentioned in another review below.

I recently purchased this wonderful reader about a couple of months ago. I opened the box and plugged it in. I didn't realize how easy it is to use. You push the button on top and a window pops up, then you select transfer images and select a folder then you are pretty much done. It's that simple! I was amazed by this product and I payed $19.99 at Best Buy for it. I RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE.

As most people know, SanDisk is really the Cadillac of flash memory products, and this is no disappointment to me. Turns out my Canon A570IS camera has some sort of driver problem downloading files over ~300MB on the USB connection, so I wanted a card reader that handled SDHC so I didn't have to go through the camera (my built-in card reader on the laptop handles SD but not SDHC, of course). In any case, this is perfect, works like a charm out of the box, SD, SDHC, etc.etc. I have a PNY 8GB class 4 card, meaning it should read/write at 4MB/sec or higher, and I just benchmarked the read speed at over 7 MB/sec, and the write at about 4.5 MB/sec on this particular card, which leads to believe, as expected, that this SanDisk device runs at maximum speed for your card. So this is the device you want. Have no hesitation, SanDisk practically invented this technology, you know.
