I bought this remote for the sole purpose of using it with my HTPC (XBMC) setup. It appealed to me because of it's small size, replaceable rechargeable battery and most importantly ... that it works without drivers.
I have been using this for a week now and it is working very well. There are no range issues whatsoever (16 feet away). The mouse track-pad, though it feels 'cheap' works as expected.
I run XBMC on Linux and it works perfectly well in XBMC and in all Linux actions. This also works on a Mac. I do not use Windows and therefore have no idea how well it integrates with Windows though I would suspect it's no different than any normal keyboard.
To use this device, simply plug-in the USB extender cable (provided), plug-in the super-small mini-receiver to the end of the USB cable(can be housed in the back of the remote for safekeeping) and turn-on the keyboard. It is not necessary to use the USB extender cable and the mini-receiver can be plugged directly into any available USB port. I plugged mine into the cable so that I could 'hoist' the cable higher than the unit to provide a clearer line of sight though it seems that is necessary at all.
The remote does not need to be pointed directly at the mini-receiver and works in any orientation.
The remote is made of a somewhat thin plastic and as a result is not as rigid as one might be accustomed to (not by design I don't think but primarily because of the materials used). I believe this is intended to be a 'cheap' unit and one should not expect a high-quality sturdy mini-keyboard.
Many have complained about the remote 'disconnecting'. This I believe is a power-saving feature (can't tell if it was intentional though I think it is) and it essentially disengages the transmitter. The disconnect seems to happen after about 10-15 seconds of inactivity.
When the unit has disconnected, there is no need to turn-off and turn-on the unit. Holding down any key for a second (preferably a key that does not result in an action ... like the back-light or function keys) will cause the transmitter to immediately re-connect. I have tried this repeatedly and found it works every time.
My kids have already got the hang of it and can easily navigate in XBMC and the Web and all the systems functions easily. Browsing on the internet works well although the keys are a bit small for my big fingers to type quickly.
Note: There is no mouse trackball. The picture seems to imply that a rolling mouse sensor is part of the design (center bottom where the 'e' is). That is not the case. That 'e' button however is press-able and effectively works as a mouse 'middle' button.
It has not been long enough to determine how well the battery holds up. I have plugged it in once to 'charge' it ... but have no idea if the battery was low or not.
All-in-all, this is an inexpensive unit and one should not expect more. Thus far, it does work exactly as claimed.
In the coming weeks, I will test it to see how long it goes without a charge before the battery goes flat.I've only used it once so far but I am really liking this thing. Great size, great functionality. Means I don't have to drag the keyboard and mouse over to where I sit when I want to watch a tv show or movie on my htpc/gaming computer that's attached to my tv. Works well, was plug and play, and the backlit keys are great for when I'm using it in low light. I didn't have to mess with any drivers or settings, Windows recognized it immediately and it was ready to use in less than a minute with full functions. Comfortable to hold and use, and it's a good price too. I haven't had it for very long so I can't speak on longevity but if it lasts I would consider this excellent.I recently bought a tv and Xbox and found it annoying using apps like Hulu Plus because it took a long time to type out the names of shows and movies so i ordered this. I love it! I use it for everything on my tv! Its even great with Facebook and Twitter. Although you have to play with it a bit to figure out shortcuts (new tweet must press m). I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that uses a lot of technology.I recently set up a big screen HDTV with Apple TV and a PC in the garage / mancave and was frustrated at using a fullsize wireless keyboard and mouse, I researched for PC remote and found the Rii Touch N7, it looked to fit what I was looking for and for less then $40 I figured I would try it...Well I have been very pleased and impressed with the ease of use, and range of this unit. Dont expect to do a lot of heavy / speed typing with this size of a keyboard, but for everything I need to do, it works GREAT!!!Does not work, even on the computer program it says it will work on. Got the Favi wireless keyboard and it runs on the same computer programs, it works fine!!!! STOP SENDING BROKE THINGS TO PEOPLE!
