- STICK PRO DUO & MEM STICK DUO CARDS
The memory stick is a bit tricky to get out as it sticks, but a tweezers helped me along. If they fix the sticking, it deserves 5 stars.
Update: 14MAR08
Now that I've been using the memory stick for about a month, I'm upgrading my review to 5 stars. After a couple of uses, I no longer had the sticking problem. It's nice and small, and super fast. Don't know how I lived without it!
Update: 27MAY08
Three months later and I'm finally getting a second one. One for work and one for home. It's too convenient not to have them in both places...This is a fantastic product for the price. It's small, about the size of other USB flash drives, and it gives me the flexibility to swap out my two MS Pro Duo cards. I have a 4GB card that I keep in my Sony Ericsson walkman phone, and this reader allows me to transfer music much much faster than the included cable. I keep the other 1GB card in the reader the rest of time and use it as a USB flash drive.
The only complaints I have have to do with the physical ease of use. It can be quite difficult to remove the MS Duo card from the reader becuase the fit is really tight. The only purchase you can get on the card is through the friction between your finger and card, which isn't really enough. This was fixed to some degree when I accidentally bent the reader when it was in my laptop's USB port (I forget it was attached). Also, the cap is almost symmetrical except for a little cutout on one side for the LED status light, meaning you have to put it on the correct way or else it will get stuck and can be quite difficult to remove. So long as you don't have limited manual dexterity, I would highly recommend this product.I just got this product yesterday. I read the review about the card being kinda tough to remove and mine was like that too. I freaked out because I have a brand new 4gb card in there. But after a little bit of wiggling, I was able to remove the card and now the card is easy to remove.
This is super small (the smallest that I have seen for pro duo card readers) and you can even use this as a usb stick.
I like it! I no longer need to drag my large 6 in 1 card reader especially since I only have a sony digital camera.
yay!Exporting pics from the Sony Digital camera was way too complicated for this simple but necessary step. The cord supplied uses lots of battery power and for me, it's only use will be the video and audio outputs from recorded MPEGS.
I had another memory stick adaptor, GE's Memory Stick USB but it also was made to accept other memory cards and getting the Memory Stick Duo RAM card took many attempts for a good connection.
The IOGEAR is simple, sleek and the memory stick slides in good and firm. Sony's software recognizes it and loads automatically.
Best solution! I would recommend it highly.I use two of these devices in conjunction with my SonyEricsson k750i cell phone. It holds a MemoryStickProDuo chip for picture/mp3/flashdrive/etc. memory. I keep one in the car and one in the travel kit. [ I have USB cradles for the phone at home and work for everyday use. ] So, if I load files on the phone (say powerpoint slides) for travel, if I need to, rather than traveling with a USB cable, I can pop the chip out and into this gizmo and I am good to go for accessing them on any machine. Other reviewers talk of poor durability, that the plastic breaks. Maybe, but I don't use it on a day-to-day basis, only a few times as described above. It beats having to plan on, carrying, etc. a USB cable where I am not likely to, or often, need one. So far, mine have not broken and work fine though I can see where, if you were popping the lid off day-in-day out constantly to insert/remove the chip, that it might break. I've noticed that JR stopped carrying it and that the pdf manual has been deleted from the IOGEAR website, so if you think you might need it, you better grab one soon.
